Kali walked at a quickened pace, wrapping his cloak around himself tightly against the torrential rain. Kali had tied his hair back before he left the Port of Avalon, but it had come loose and now hung loosely before his face, weighed down by the torrential rain. He had finally made it to the castle.

He peered up, covering his eyes against the rain with one hand, and saw the front gate of the castle towering over him. He hoped someone was inside. The wind whipped around mercilessly, chilling Kali to the bone. It wasn't the rain and wind that made the sailor boy anxious to get indoors; he had experienced worse storms out at sea with his father. It was the chilling cold that came with it...

Kali pulled one of his knives and wielded it backwards, using the blunt end to bang on the door three times with a resonant sound. He waited outside the door, shivering in the cold rain, hoping there was a hearth with a warm fire inside the castle he could sit in front of. He sheathed his knife, not wanting the person who answered the door to see him armed.

(i wonder where Reina is)

He remembered the little thief girl he met at the Port, and it brought a smile to his face that maybe, just maybe, he would be able to see her again.

The child had previously been in her room, playing with some of her toys before there was the same familiar tickle at the back of her mind. A new person's presence grasping her attention. It had caused her to drop what she was doing and leave her room, heading down the hall to make her way towards where the feeling was coming from. Because of the rain outside she wasn't able to play out today, though that made her curious who would be out traveling in the rain the way it was. Such thoughts reminded her of the traveller Connell who she had given a room in the castle, maybe someone who was just lost?

Eventually she arrived at the door, just in time to hear a knocking on it. Her small hand grasping the handle as she pulled the door open. Looking out to see someone wrapped up in a rather soaked cloak. The person didn't look much taller than her, and she gave them a smile. Because of the rain it was also rather dark in the area, the girl corrected the darkness by raising her hand. Said hand soon became engulfed in a flame that would illuminate the area. Before her large black wings could have made her look like something else, because of the darkness, but the new light would correct such a thing.

"Come on in, you must be cold." Isabella offered, stepping away from the door in order to give him the room to walk in. The more she backed up the more of the entrance room would be made clear. A somewhat large room with a upraised area leading to more rooms. Though it was clear which way she had come from by an open door nearby. Though others might wonder how she had reached the door so quickly, since he had only just knocked before she opened it. "My name is Isabella Kianthran, welcome to my castle. Who are you?" The child questioned, smile still there as she watched him with her strange purple eyes filled with little gold specks. What side of the family the gold specks came from though was unknown.

The door opened and Kali saw nothing immediately. The darkness extended deep into the castle. Before Kali's eyes adjusted to the light there was a flame, a small flame almost the size of Kali's hand. He blinked and saw a girl about his own height. It took him a moment to figure that she wasn't holding a lantern, but it was her hand that was aflame. She offered a smile and Kali returned one.

"Come on in, you must be cold," The girl said sweetly, stepping back to give Kali room to enter. Kali brushed past her quickly out of the rain, shaking his head to rid his mass of hair of its water weight. Kali looked up immediately, seeing the soaring ceiling and intricately carved details close to and on the ceiling. Onward, there was a door that stood open, and Kali assumed that it was the room from whence this little girl came. But where was Reina?

"My name is Isabella Kianthran, welcome to my castle. Who are you?" The girl spoke casually, as if she was always the only one there. Kali forgot about Reina for the moment, and offered his hand in greeting.

"I'm Kali," he said with a smile. "Kaliva'o Nanikopela. I was invited by a girl, Reina. Is she still here?"

Stepping closer towards him Isabella looked at the hand he offered, it was a bit awkward since the only way to shake it properly would have been with the hand that was currently in flames. Smiling a bit the fire went out in the one hand, one forming in the other at the same moment. Clearly she knew what she was doing with it. It was then that she was able to shake his hand, though a frown came after as she listened to what he said. The frown only coming as he said the word 'Reina'. Isabella knew well who he was speaking of, Reina had been her best friend.

"Reina is... Gone." Isabella said sadly, and she didn't just mean gone as in she left. Of course how could he know that just from what she said? The sad tone could have been a bit of a giveaway. She didn't explain right now though, instead she stepped back and started walking towards the door. "I'll tell you more in a moment, you're probably cold though so lets go in a room with a fireplace." The girl said softly, walking through the doorway and down the rather long hall. Because of the hall being rather well lit Isabella didn't need to keep the fire in her hand going, letting it go at such a point to no longer have to worry about setting something on fire.

There were many doors yet none of them happened to be the one she would take, though eventually she would open a door. A door into a somewhat nice room, there was a sofa and a rug. A few tables as well as most importantly, a fireplace along one of the walls. There was no fire going, and it was currently dark in the room, so Isabella walked over to the darkened fireplace. Crouching down and reaching in she lightly touched her hand to some wood leftover from the last fire, her hand one more growing its own flame just long enough for the fireplace to start. At such point she quickly pulled her hand away, so as to not burn herself. That one fire made the room much brighter as Isabella made her way to sit on the couch.

"Reina is... Gone," She said softly, sadly. Kali knew all too well the feeling that came behind that kind of tone. She wasn't just gone for now. She was gone for good. A shadow of grief darkened Kali's eyes as he thought of his father.

"I'll tell you more in a moment, you're probably cold though so lets go in a room with a fireplace." She took a step back, starting towards a door, and Kali followed. Kali's eyes wandered to the paintings that adorned the long hall. The girl, Isabella, extinguished the fire that was at her hands, for there was adequate lighting in the hall. They passed many doors along the way, until they finally arrived at a door.

It was a study, or so he thought. There was a sofa and an area rug and a few tables before the hearth. The hearth seemed to be the centerpiece of the room, a massive and ornate structure tucked neatly in the corner. At first the room was dark and the hearth was cold. Isabella crossed the room and crouched before the hearth, and before long the fire grew brightly, casting the shadows into the corners of the room. She sat on the couch, and Kali moved closer to the fire, rubbing his hands together and holding his hands out towards the fire to warm them.

Kali took off the drenched cloak and folded it by the fire. He called his magic and hands lit into bright blue flame. Kali passed his hands over his cloak quickly, lightly, trying to be sure that he didn't burn holes into the cloak. Kali took off his shirt, which was also waterlogged, and passed his flaming hands over it to dry it. The tattoo on his back glowed faintly red, the thin lines of magical ink moving like fire.

Poor child... The phoenix said, his presence very close. You must be cold... The phoenix reached out and touched Kali's mind...

Kali felt a warm surge of energy inside him, and a shiver racked his small body. He released his magic and his tattoo became as any other: thin lines, a fine portrait of a phoenix with its wings outstretched. Kali put his shirt back on and noticed that the room was quiet.

Sitting back a bit on the couch Isabella thought carefully over how she should tell him about what happened to Reina, it was rather painful to think about. Especially since it brought forth the memory of it happening. Isabella had been the only one there to see it. It wasn't easy to forget such a thing when its your best friend. Eventually she figured out a way to tell him, though she was curious how he and her knew each other. "She... knew something was going to happen. I'm not sure how or why she didn't tell me. Though I suppose in a way she did.." Isabella said softly, voice oddly eased for someone who was talking about the death of their best friend.

"I think it had to do with what she was, did she ever tell you? A vampire homunculus. She was older than she looked, by a lot. I think... the strange combination couldn't sustain itself anymore." She paused there, as though she was having some difficulty with what she was going to say next. It was a rather difficult topic, the events that had happened. "Her body didn't just shut down though, didn't fall apart. It exploded. It destroyed itself. I... Saw her smile, and then she was all gone." Isabella finished, a crack happening in her voice as she said such.

It was at such point she clearly had ended up crying. Remembering it causing the mental images to become to strong to ignore anymore. She had actually done very well, telling what happened without breaking down exactly. The little girl did well holding it back till she had been able to tell him. It was quite a thing for a little girl, especially one like her. When she was done with her guest there was a likely chance that the girl would go running to her mother. Just like she had done when Reina had initially died. There were just some times a girl needed her mother, though most would probably hope that such time wouldn't be the death of someone or something. Things happened in life though.

When Isabella started to talk, he noticed the heaviness in her voice from the first word. It was hard for her to think about, much less explain. As she continued to talk, her voice started to crack, and Kali could recall a memory

(his father being beheaded...)

that stirred the same reaction in him. Kali got up from in front of the hearth and wrapped his arms around Isabella in a comforting hug as she broke down into tears. Kali rocked slowly as she cried, as his cousin sometimes did for him when he thought of his father. She had seen it, Kali thought. She had seen Reina's death firsthand.

Kali pulled away, wiping the tears from her eyes with his hand. "It'll be okay," Kali said, remembering what his uncle told him. "It'll be okay..." Kali tried hard not to imagine how it happened, tried not to think of the blood she must have seen.

Kali couldn't help but think they shared a common bond; both had witnessed the scene of death. Kali promised himself that as good as a friend Reina was, he would be that much of a friend to Isabella. Reina may have been all Isabella had...

It was easier to cry when comforted, made it much less like you were crying alone which was the worse. It helped to have a new friend there, definitely helped. It took a bit of time till the crying stopped, it was doubtable she even noticed he had said something when she had calmed down. When she had finally the girl ended up just sitting there, staring towards the fire she had put together. "She left me in charge of all of her friends. It was a couple of days before it happened when she told me she needed me to take care of them." Isabella explained, meaning all those creatures Kali had met in the past with Reina, and more, were under Isabella's control.

".. There is a... frog with your name?" It was almost like a question, as though she was trying to see if the frog was named after him. Maybe also a way to try and get him to tell her about it. Something hopefully fun to get her mind off of the memories of what happened. Isabella wasn't sure what she would have done if it wasn't for her mother. The power that she had in the very unstable hands she had at the time? That wasn't exactly the best combination if one knew who her father was, and all that he had done. Luckily Isabella was like her mother, and had her mother there at the time.

By such point she had ended up toying with a small bracelet she had one, one she never took off. Slowly rotating it in her hand, spinning it around her wrist a bit. It was almost starting to become a habit of hers, though that was understandable. It was bronze in color that wrapped around her arm with two glowing blue stones, the ends of it were more silver colored though. It certainly was strange looking. If not for Reina she probably wouldn't have it. Though that was doubtable since in a way it had been made by Isabella's powers, and what she could do with it certainly couldn't be placed on Reina.

It was there in the study that Kali and Isabella were frozen in time for a moment, Kali comforting Isabella while tears coursed down his own cheek. When she did finally stop crying, staring deep into the fire, she spoke of Reina's pets. a faint smile crossed Kali's face, remembering the dragon Koi and the wolf Kage. Before now, Kali would have thought of the dragon and a shudder of fear would have racked him. But it all seemed like a distant memory, her animals. Kali knew the animals weren't dead, but the memory they tie to made it almost surreal that they still be around.

".. There is a... frog with your name?" Isabella asked, and Kali could barely hold in a small laugh. "She named a frog Kali because I saved her from a merchant's guard," Kali replied, staring through the flames, into the past. "We were taking this man's money and she got caught. I turned around and burned both the guards..." Kali let his voice trail, for maybe this somewhat happy memory of her would lift Isabella's spirits.

It worked a bit, imagining what he said caused her to giggle slightly. She hadn't seen Reina doing any of her stealing before but she had heard stories of it, they had always amused Isabella. Probably mostly because she never had done such herself. In some ways she was still rather sheltered, so she loved hearing stories of things people had gone through. She enjoyed it about as much as she enjoyed reading stories, or being read to. The girl actually enjoyed the latter the most. Though sometimes she had trouble staying up to listen to the stories, 'bedtime' stories could often put her to sleep quite easily. Though she loved the things she was awake to listen for.

"What happened after that?" The girl question, curious to hear what other events had gone on. While it wasn't exactly some magic adventure it was still something interesting that she would like to hear about. Maybe afterwords she could tell him some of the stories of her and Reina, it would be nice to be able to talk about the good times with her. Rather than simply feeling sad about having seen her death. Yes she could do this with her parents, or anyone else in the castle for that matter. There was just something different in talking about it with someone of your own age. Or close to it.

It was still raining outside, though the rain was actually calming little by little. It still wasn't close to clearing up through, there was still a bit of time before that. Maybe when it cleared up she could show him some of the animals she was charged with looking after. Maybe some of the ones he had seen, it might be nice to get together with them with yet another person who was a friend of Reina. Isabella always felt closer to her now dead friend whenever she spent time with a majority of them, it was one of the few things about Reina's passing that didn't make her sad. Seeing the animals that were a reminder. She couldn't leave them alone though, she was put in charge of them and wasn't going to give that up anytime soon.

"What happened after that?" Isabella asked, and Kali smiled a small smile. He knew she was enjoying the story. At least, Kali thought, he got her to stop crying. "She called a lot of animals... wolves, a hellhound, a tiger, and a dragon..." Kali shuddered as he remembered he last. "She said it wasn't even all of her animals."

Kali stood up from the couch and went over to the window. The rain pounded against the glass, and Kali went through the mental images of Reina's 'friends'. "They attacked some of the people in the marketplace, people with weapons. Me and Reina ran for it, but later they tried to catch up with us. She let me ride a black wolf and I showed her my hiding spot. She went somewhere after that..." Kali recounted the story as best as he could remember. Reina might have been gone, Kali thought, but she will always be remembered.

Kali snapped out of his reverie when he realized that the rain was lightening up. It wasn't over, but the sound of the rain on the window was becoming lighter. "Hey, I think it's gonna stop raining," Kali said, returning to the couch, to Isabella and the fire.

When he went on with the story she almost couldn't help but crack a smile. That sure did sound like her, a whole group of animals coming just because of a little event. Though Isabella wasn't so sure Reina called all of them. Usually it was just Kage, or Koi. Because of how much closer she was to them than to the others. Neither of them had been acting the same since Reina left, Isabella tried all she could in an attempt to cheer them up, nothing seemed to be working. It saddened her quite a bit, all she could do though was to just try and cheer them up and hope it would work. Perhaps one day they would be back to somewhat normal.

When he continued with the story the next bit didn't surprise her at all. The animals were all highly protective of her, such was actually transfered to Isabella in a way. It wasn't quite to the same degree that they were protective of Reina. Nothing could take her place, Isabella wouldn't even try. The mention of her leaving caused Isabella to nod a little, Reina probably came back here like she normally did. The room she had before was still the same, Isabella didn't want it changed even without her. One day it probably would be needed for something else, but for now it would remain as it was.

Tilting her head Isabella stood up, walking over towards the window as well. "Oh hey your right." She said in agreement, the rain did look like it was stopping. An idea popped into her head as she watched the slowing of the rain, maybe she could do a bit more for the 'memorial' of Reina. Perhaps she could bring in some of those animals, that would be one of the best ways to remember the animal loving girl. "how about when it stops raining we could go outside and I could bring some of them out to see? I promise none of them will attack you." Isabella offered, the bracelet on her hand which was created after Isabella's friends death would get more use. She liked practicing with it, though she so rarely had the chance to.

"Okay," Kali said, glad that she was feeling better. He exited the room and retraced his steps to the front door. With effort, the thick wooden door gave way. The rain was still falling, but it was a light rain, the kind of rain Kali liked best. It felt like kisses on the skin, and the earth smelled like it were breathing a sigh of relief. The air was fragrant with opening flowers nearby.

Kali stepped out into the sprinkling rain and his pendant began to glow a light blue. "It's not raining too bad now," Kali said, holding his arms out, coaxing the girl out. Kali turned an easy cartwheel in the courtyard, as if to show her it was safe outside.

Isabella watched for a moment as he agreed, and simply left the room. Assuming that he was going to be heading for the exit she walked from the window to begin following him. Then at least if he got himself lost on the way she could redirect him the correct way. He did rather well though, there weren't a lot of people she knew of who would be able to navigate a path which they had only taken one time. That wasn't to say that the layout was that complicated, it was created by the mind of a child. It was really quite simple in its own ways. To her at least.

Looking outside she watched the very light rainfall, the kind of rain she could create with easy just by getting a bit annoyed. Kali didn't seem to mind the rain all that much, she would have been fine going out even when it had been pouring rain though. Water was in her blood, the girl would never mind it. Even when she fell in and had been in danger of drowning or becoming deathly ill she didn't fear it. Her mother had taught her well, water was a part of nature. To be respected rather than fear, because fear wasn't respect. With that she walked out of the castle into the rain.

The rain sprinkled lightly on her dampening her dress and hair with little specks, her dress darkening while her hair would slowly flatten and mostly make it loose the waves. The bracelet on her wrist began to morph, lengthening and straightening as it slowly evolved into the form of a scythe. "Well here you can meet them then." Outside of the castle was the only place she could do this, otherwise there was a chance they would destroy the whole castle on accident. Quickly she swung her scythe into the air, the blade seemed to catch onto something as she stepped back with it caught on whatever was in the air. A tear slowly formed that grew till she finally retracted the scythe from it.

"Io, Koigokoro, Skitty, Tokasin come on out!" Isabella said somewhat softly. It was there that from the rift a small head poked out, the head of a nearly pure black cat. Save for the white patch on her chest and the bit on her underbody. The feline leapt out and scurried over to Isabella to hide under her dress from the sprinkle. Shortly after a large bird came flying out, a Roc, that landed a bit behind Isabella. That wasn't it though. A dragon came flying out, followed by the head of another. This head, however, had four other heads attached to one body. The massive five headed dragon came out of the rift as it closed behind her. All five of the heads looked at Kali.

Kali gave a puzzled look as the girl's bracelet started to transform. It lengthened and sharpened at one end to become a wicked scythe, just long enough to seem like it was made for Isabella. She swung the scythe and it caught in the air, tearing a hole in the dimensions, creating a rift.

First a black and white cat jumped out, hiding from the rain under Isabella's skirt. Then a huge bird flew from the rift, and Kali thought of the phoenix. But this, Kali noted, wasn't a phoenix. He couldn't quite place what it was, and before he could ponder further about it, a dragon flew from the rift. This dragon Kali recognized. Koi, as Reina used to call her.

Then another dragon stuck its head from the rift. It climbed slowly out, and Kali realized with horror, that it didn't just have one head. Each of its five heads were a different color, probably denoting the element each head possesses. Each head trained their eyes on Kali and he felt a fear that he never known. All the blood drained from Kali's face as he craned his neck to see this--these--dragons. "That's a... that's got..." Kali said, pointing weakly at the second dragon. It was too much for the sailor. Kali's knees buckled and he keeled backwards, fainting in the castle's courtyard...
