For a while now Serge has been following Sahara around. There was no real deal made, no price paid... but almost like a silent agreement between the two. He, would protect and guard her and she would feed him. And surprisingly enough, it was unbelievable how much trouble this one girl got into when she was out. Apparently, her hobby or skill involved turning random things into something else, a process Serge didn't understand well. But the point of it was, to gather materials everything from some random blade of grass all the way to the bones of a lich she needed the materials to make her potions. Serge, had become her muscle and guardian all at once... and you wouldn't believe the things he's had to beat down so she could get her things.

This of course brought them to the place they had found themselves. She needed scales, and not just any scales... Sea Dragon Scales. So like a good little dog, Serge would follow as Sahara took point looking for what it was she needed in this cave. He has never laid eyes on a dragon, let alone a Sea Dragon but he has heard tales of the beasts. The very top of the mythical food chain, challenged by none outside their own clan. A command of magic no mortal can wield and possessing a longevity that made all but the immortals jealous. Though he was not afraid, the boy was weary, for never has he faced a foe that is quite literally capable of crushing him before he has a chance to rise against it.

The smell of salt was heavy, and the labored breathing could be made out quite easily, resonating and bouncing off the stone walls giving the illusion that they were in fact surrounded by the sea beasts. It put the boy on edge... he didn't like not knowing where his enemy was, his senses literally fogged by the smell of salt and the misleading sounds his only hope was that the torch carried would give light to the darkness and hopefully give the young on a clue as to what he may need to smash this time around. Dammit tonights dinner better be good! Fighting Dragons was something only fools did... oh the lengths he went to get fed.

The young alchemist's travels seemed to have gotten much more complicated than before. Perhaps it was due to a new addition of constant company. Or maybe she just paid attention a little bit more than she used to when alone. Of course a little bit more attention was scarcely enough to save her skin when it came to the scatterbrained, clumsy alchemist. And so a guard dog, as it were, was the perfect complimentary extra for her. It didn't hurt either that the only method of payment required for the gaining of protection was, food. The way to the kid's heart was through his stomach it seemed. Sahara had gotten used to the company already. On another plus, she now had managed to collect far more varied alchemical goods than she ever could alone. What a win win situation it was!

Abruptly, the alchemist got it into her head that she would have to acquire some scales. But these scales did not come from a lizard or fish, no, it had to be from a dragon. And not just any dragon. A sea dragon. Such a find woudl definitely result in some potion making of epic proportions. Just think of the benefits such concoctions drafted from sea dragon scales could create. Maybe even potions to let one walk on water or breath beneath it! The possibilities were endless.

Crouched behind some large stones, they waited within the cave. Sahara withdrew a small blade from her pockets, an item she'd obtained specifically for this purpose. "Wait here." Whispering, Sahara edged closer to the great slumbering beast. "I'll just pop off a couple of scales, and we'll scoot on out of here." Sneaking, sneaking, he sidled up to the giant sea serpent. Slowly she reached the knife forward, wiggling it beneath a scale. Just as she was about to remove it. The beast stirred. Surprised, she fell backwards. Landing on the creature's tail, a deafening roar filled the cave. "Oops..."

What did you expect?! Sure Serge was strong and quite loyal, doglike in every sense of the word but like any dog he was curious and would get into trouble for no other reason than because he sniffed the wrong butt. Regardless of all the trouble he seemed to of brought Sahara, she was good to him... and that was something he couldn't help but latch onto. For so long he has been alone, and discriminated against, not since his days with his family has he found such peace with being with something. Even if Sahara didn't feed him, over time he had grown extremely attached to her. She was without a doubt his master, his owner and quite possibly his friend... But that was a tale for another time, as of right now, she was once again getting herself into trouble, and although younger... he was the guardian and had to step up to the plate.

Behind the rock he waited like a good dog, only for the roar of the beast to shake him free of the place he had taken up residence in for the moment. He growled, almost cursing Sahara for fumbling, yet again. Serge like a blur moved from the rock and to her position, his footfalls drowned out by the stirring dragon, its serpent like length curling and uncurling as he moved about in the cave. Almost without notice did Sahara find herself scooped up off its tale and over the shoulder of the boy. “Never go smooth can it?” Serge grumbled half to her and half to his surroundings as he quickly dashed off back down the tunnel hoping she got the scales she needed.

She couldn't help herself, she was just so focused on whatever was in hr mind at the moment that nothing else gained her attention. It was a good thing in that she was rarely disrupted from her work, at least she didn't run off to fool around when she had work to do. On the other hand, when she started workign on potion or gaining that special ingredient, she lost sight on reality. A giant could come stomping up to her as she brewed a potion, and she wouldn't even notice.

Indeed the only reason she noticed what was going on was because she still had no scales! If she had no scales she didn't have the scales to focus on and .. scales! Being swiftly picked up from the earth, the cave walls flashing by to alert her that she was being carried by the now running guard dog, Sahara gave a forlorn whine. "But I didn't get my scales!"

He ran as fast as his legs would carry with the added weight (though not much) of Sahara on his back. Like normal she didn't even realize that Serge had scooped her up until much later. That focus of her was something admirable, but it got them into so much trouble it was almost not worth it. Ok it was totally worth it, there was nowhere else Serge got the chance to fight and eat all at the same time with no expense to himself. It was unknown of the dragon had followed, or even was going to, but what he did hear was obviously its string, and it sounded damn angry. I mean who wouldn't be after some random person sneaks into your house then suddenly trips and falls on you because they were trying to steal a lock of hair?

Then the coup de grace "didn't get scales" the three words he heard shoot from her mouth. Immediately he slowed to a halt, putting the girl down and looking her square in the face, an obvious look of annoyance painted on it. "Tellin me you aint get the scales?! Gah... what imma do with you woman?" Their roles reversed so much it would be mind boggling to try and keep up. One moment, it was Serge being looked after, cared for and in general being directed... and just as quickly it can be Sahara that takes up the role of the helpless one, stuck on stupid and lost with no hope of finding civilization again. Though, to outsiders one would think they were both idiots and they got along just find. There would be nobody but each other that understood them.

"Kno if we go back imma have ta smash the dragon. Sure you want that?" He wasnt actually looking forward to fighting a dragon, true they were big, and he feared them not... but what he did fear was that dragon magic and their breath... that breath could kill.

It wasn't her fault! Really. she simply could not help it when she got distracted, or tripped over her own feet. But hey, that dragon was big, and its tail was just in the way. if anything was to blame, it was that beast! Yes ... that was it. If the lad didn't stop and let her go retrieve some scales, the alchemist would have thrown quite a fit. But she knew he would turn back round, as both of them knew she wouldn't leave without her ingredients. Even if she had to thump him on the head and run back on her own.

With her feet firmly on the ground once more, she looked him straight in the eye. "Damn thing moved before I could get em!" See? Totally not her fault. But she grinned, a sneaky gesture as she withdrew some implement or other from her many pockets. "Aww, I'm sure you can handle 'im!"

The boy grumbled, she was shifting the blame yet again. This time at least it wasn't upon him but on the dragon who she was trying to harvest scales from. Hell even Serge knew that you have to be extra careful around such creatures, the fault was hers, and normally it always was. Though to avoid retribution on her end with a thwack on the nose by one of those fans she carries or some weird itching powder in his food that night, Serge would keep quiet and do as he was told... which was to smash the dragon. Oh today just was not his day. Well, sure he wasn't looking forward to fighting a dragon of all things, but it would have been impossible to hide the fact that he was even a tiny bit excited... if he could stand on par with a beast of this scale then he would truly be able to survive anything.

Cracking his neck and knuckles, Serge groaned and bounded off back down the tunnel at full speed. Though as he neared the chamber itself the serpent like dragon was already headed back down the tunnel apparently to seek them out. His right fist balled tightly he left his hand fly with all the might his flying body could muster, his fury exploded and hit the mythical beast like a hammer. The very stone of the cavern shook, knocking the coiled beast back into its sleeping chamber. Serge followed suit chasing after the beast hoping to end the assault before it begun only to find himself sailing in wrong direction. The beast before it landed in the water chamber in which it slept, whipped its tail around knocking Serge clear across the area crashing through a few stalagmites on the way.

He landed... hard face down in the stone among the bones of countless others who probably challenged the thing and lost. Serge groaned, lifting his weight up on shaky arms from the shock of the blow itself, only to find himself moving before he felt his balance back completely. A claw just seconds before he rolled hit the bones with such force they turned to powder its claws striking the stone and causing sparks. Serge rocketed forward grasping onto the claw itself as he attempted to find his balance. Gripping the massive thing with his entire body the youth unleashed all the torque in his bones and literally hip tossed the dragon into the waiting wall. “Damn lizard!”

Yea, today wasn't his day.

"Don't pout! I know you enjoy this sort of thing!" She called with a taunt as he took off down the corridor. Maybe she got the wrong idea but, well he sure seemed to have a knack for putting the hurt on dangerous beasties. Maybe it took one to know one, though. In that case then, Sahara was out of her league. She could however work up a concoction to assist, the only problem being to compile one that would not spread to the lad as well as the dragon. Now just what did sea dragons lack constitution against...

And there she went, falling into thought again. Ducking behind a large boulder, the alchemist dug throguh her pockets and began picking out ingredients. "Now if I add Kieoe and Brytild and Kjaricas..." Rifling through her pockets, she withdrew several herbs. What a time to begin experimenting with potions, eh? But this was Sahara in a nutshell.

Serge has been fighting all his life, against beasts both mythical and otherwise. This however was the first time he has ever faced down a dragon. And for what?! Some random girl he just happened to imprint himself on, the promise of good food and no retribution in the way of poisonous herbs or a whack on the nose. Sure, he's refused to do something once or twice, and got crazy sick that night he ate. Serge is no immortal no matter how much it seems like it, he cant defy death indefinitely, but hard to kill was an understatement. So... would this dragon be the last straw that finally broke the back? Ha! Like hell! Serge is going to smash, crash, and bash the scaly beast until it refused to get up and let its scales be harvested like a good over sized lizard.

The feet of the youth planted firmly on the ground, the weight of the dragon as he rolled it overhead serving to anchor him. Oddly enough he was not crushed, ok maybe not odd when it came to Serge, the boy could eat rock and steel like it was the sweetest homemade meal. With all the torque in his body he heaved the beast, smashing its massive head into the stone wall the boy himself was just eagerly acquainted with. Though, the boy threw him into the wall he didn't stop there, refusing to allow such a simple thing be the end of the humiliation it had in turn given him. “Dun sleep now! Jus getting warmed up you and I!” Serge cried barreling recklessly towards the stunned dragon.

His body exploded, unleashing the near critical levels of fury built up inside him causing him to quite literally multiply. He chased down the dragon, attacking multiple points at once even as the beast struck at the many copies attempting to attack Serge himself. It was in vain even as it slashed and roared in protest. It grew weary and angrier, and parted its scaled maw unleashing a literal storm from the pits of its belly sweeping its neck back and forth, obliterating the copies of the King of Beasts in mere moments. The true Serge turned up, shaking on a bolder from a direct hit of the lightning the current still visibly coursing through his body. How he was still conscious, alive at that... was beyond human understanding... but it was obvious he was hurt... and badly for once.

Though she was not a fighter in the same sense, at least she wasn't a coward. Though her knack for jumping into trouble seemed to cause more harm than good the majority of the time. Well ... at least she tried. Sahara would never be of the same combat prowess as the lad, but she was totally the brains of the operation. Blind to the combat actually occurring, due to her now studying the effects of herbs, she barely flinched at debris falling from the cave ceiling. A little bit of dust was easily ignored, providing it was not enough to act as a catalyst and destroy the potions she was working on so diligently. "A little more..." A bottle had been procured from her pockets now, sea water mixed in with the herbs she'd crushed against the stones. Swirling the mixture together she finally stood.

Her work was completed just as the boy had hit the dirt. Withdrawing the throwing weapon from her belt, she crashed the bottle upon it. The mixture was greasy and thick, coating the weapon just enough to adhere to it and not pour off. "Keep your head down!" With that she threw the weapon, it circled round the advancing serpent. Crashing against the beast's head, the weapon clattered to the sands. Letting it fall where it may Sahara was already running. Another bottle was withdrawn from her belt, and she unplugged the cork with her teeth. The beast fell, stunned and blind. Sahara arrived at the shaking Serge.

Then dumped the healing potion directly over his head...

Pain traveled through his body as if there were already predetermined rivers for it to navigate. The youth could ignore pain that came from the outside, but this, this was like there was fire in his muscles tearing them to shreds from the inside out. Never before has he felt such an agony, unable to force his body to move the way he wanted it to as if he was frozen stiff. Electricity, a powerful element and due to the dampness of the cave itself, his body was a welcome short circuit. His face twisted as he could hear the thunderous steps and scraping of the talons as the dragon moved closer to him, ready to finish off the immobilized boy.

Then a voice, he recognized it. And like it or not he would follow her orders and keep his head down, his muscles slowly ceasing to spasm. Green eyes shot open his motor functions returning though no where near 100 percent. The beast was distracted by something, the familiar whirling of Sahara’s weapon followed by an almost ineffective “thunk” as it crashed against its skull, much like a fly on the bottom of some steed. Yet suddenly the dragon fell its eyes glazed over and its body every bit as tense as Serge’s. She had mixed something and had given the boy the much needed time to begin to recover.

The fractured bones of his ribs beneath his flesh begun to mend, a slow process but an amazing one and something that kept Serge alive when others who fancied themselves strong have fallen the process was then accelerated boosted by a healing potion from his companion. As if instantly his vigor returned, and beneath the surface his rage boiled, His eyes so green begun to burn, as if they started to glow yellow. The boy clinched his teeth as he rolled over “standing” on all fours his hands digging into the solid stone below. Serge growled, angered that if she had acted only seconds later he would of died… angered that he had to rely on her to help him… and angered that there was something out there stronger than him.

His aura exploded, physically taking the form of a mist red, with a coppery smell… blood. The dragon was stunned… but Serge would have none of it! He would tear the legendary monster to shreds with his bare hands… his claws. A roar bellowed from the very pits of his soul, the screech would be something that could make a banshee cover her ears. The bestial nature within the boy had awakened to such an extent that the unnatural shadows that seemed to envelop him took the form of some unmistakable monster… like a lion... or a wolf, or a tiger, or a bear… as if he was some composite of every wild animal known to man.

Forward he dashed as the Dragon slowly begun to regain its senses, lashing out with its tail to defend its weakened position. Serge assaulted it then, his hands reaching out against the tail, grasping it so hard the mythical scales of the dragons crumbled beneath the pressure his grip exerted. The beast screamed in pain as the very bones were crushed to nothing, and forward still did Serge continue, literally gripping higher and thrashing the dragon against the walls and cave sealing, shaking stalagmites loose and visibly though slowly… tearing the dragons tail off.

She could do something for the pain, if he'd wanted. Unfortunately however, it would also put him to sleep. Generally when people were in enough pain to desire aid, they were in much need of rest anyways. So side effects were generally ignored as they were usually preferred anyways. As always, once this was all over, she'd attempt to care for whatever wounds he'd gained. Even though he had some advanced healing capability that required no aid, she simply couldn't help herself. And so like a child she'd have to trick him with food, well more like a dog, but still... Besides, she secretly was interested in how the lad 'ticked', he was quite unlike any normal human being by any means.

A hand reached for another healing potion, but he was in motion before she could retrieve it. Despite her being so helpless when it came to matters of survival, she didn't need to take a second look to recognize the eyes of a beast. There was nothing she could say or do now, Serge had fallen into the rage of an animal. Sahara recognized it from occasions before. And so it was that she was the one who needed to duck her head. And promptly leapt for cover behind a stone.
