The travel along the northern roads from the extremely large forest proved to be quite a long one.
Both Krestel and Selphia made their way along with decent pacing. The two would have found their way to a town before nightfall. Occasionally on the trip Krestel would continue to stick his nose in the air, looking about at the sky. By the time they came out of the forest the sun would be directly over head, and lowering. Night would be upon them before they made it to their desired location. Krestel insisted the two stopped at Trevena. It would have been a nice resting point, had Selphia needed one, and Krestel could pick up some things that he needed. Not to mention he knew a few people there, and knew he was in no danger at all, which was good for both him, and Selphia.

The two made it to town while hours left to spare in the day. The southern gate was closet to approach from where they traveled. As they approached the town Krestel kept close to Sephia, as if he expected something to actually jump out and attack her. While he was near her he would randomly feel that connection to her that he felt while they were in the forest. It was like a dim and flickering light. Able to be seen from your peripherals, while if you gazed upon it directly it would disappear. Krestel tried as best he could to ignore it. Simply pondering would do nothing for him. All he could do was accept what was happening. His usual train of thoughts didn't overtake him today. It was like something occupied his mind.

"We should stay in the Horseshoe Tavern for tonight. I wish to gather some things before we continue our travels. Plus it would be nice to sleep in an actual bed for once." The two made their way through the streets. Krestel moved about as if he had very well built the place, and could navigate it with his eyes closed. He made sure not to allow his pace to separate him too far from Selphia.

The two were in front of the tavern. It was large enough to cater to the entire town it looked like. Upon entering the double doors directly across were the check in table. Several people occupied it, as opposed to just a single person normally doing it. The hall looked lively enough. The lanterns were lit in each corner of the room, and along the halls. In the upper left side a spiraling stairwell was placed, which would lead to several halls, each with rooms. To the opposite side of the stairwell was a larger door, just slightly smaller than the open door. This led to the basement. Surely enough the rest of the tavern stretched behind the first table, but that looked as though it was only ment for employees to see.

"Excuse me, one moment." Krestel said, lifting a finger, and taking off toward the front desk. He looked like he had a target in mind. He approached a large bearded man, wearing a red cloth shirt.

"It's been some time, Klar." The bearded man blinked inquisitively, before bursting with a smile, lifting his arms in excitement. "Well, if it isn't the little outcast, Krestel!!! It's been too long!" The elf chuckled.
"I go by Star now. You know that."
"Of course. Of course. If you're here I take it you need a room?"
"You got it." Krestel's smile became somewhat devious as the words escaped his lips.
"And you wanna cash in on that favor, eh?" Klar said, leaning in toward Krestel.
"You got it." Krestel repeated, using the same tone."
"Fine, fine. 7th floor. Second to last room on the right." Klar threw the keys at Krestel, as if he expected to know what Krestel wanted upon entering the tavern. "Are we even?" Krestel cocked an eyebrow.
"I'll sleep on it." With that he turned to Selphia and lifted the key, notifying her there was a room available and he nabbed it.

After the travel there Krestel opened the door. The room was rather tiny. Not small, by any means. Just more small than he had expected. He got the room for free, so he couldn't argue, even if he were to have gotten a piece of crap room. He was thankful he got this.

"Make yourself at home."

Selphia was good at keeping rhythm with her brother that matching Star, or Krestel’s stride was no trouble for her. That was for the first leg of their journey out of the woods. Her clothing dried along with her long pale locks. Her hood remained upon her head and pulled forward so that it warded off any really look at her face could be seen. Sure Krestel had seen her face. But even as they walked she was certain that he would forget. Her brother had told him a few misadventures that he had with some women. Explaining that ones heart tends to wane from time to time, but a strong heart deep in love never forgets. She always wondered how his lines worked on these women. But these days there seemed to be more dim women around. Or perhaps it gave them the excuse for behaviour without scruples.

Half way during their travels she started to feel the heat. Even for it passing into the late afternoon. Her desire to remove her cloak was coming into question more times then she carried to note. But she stayed firm and left it on. Her gaze remained upon Krestel the entire time that they walked. They did not need to talk for what was there to talk about. She had told him what he had need of knowing. And he, well he seemed to just keep to himself. Though once they approached the city gates she noted that he pulled back a bit. Becoming a little protective upon entering the city. Was he worried? Should she be worried?

It was then that a rippled of voices seemed to assault her mind when she set her foot beyond the gate. She swayed to the right and brushed against Krestel, but quickly righted herself. If any looked upon her they would see her slender form. Galeon often told guards that she was ill and in need of a healer. Which gave them quick access, since the guards did not want what she had. But this time she was not at all well. She swallowed hard, as her brow furrowed, and the pain seemed to move across to both temples.

Once again she had trouble focusing. She would turn to Krestel and nod at his mentioning of the Inn. ~Focus, focus.~ Was all she would utter to herself, if he heard he did not mention that he had. So on they went to the Inn. Her pale gaze glanced to the few folk about them. She had not realized that her hood had slipped back upon her brow, and people were staring at her. Or was that her imagination. She did not know nor care. She wanted out of the streets.

When they came to the Tavern her gaze traveled to the door as folk seemed to come and go frequently. It was a busy spot. She wondered what was going on in the city that so many would be gathered in one place. Perhaps the Tavern and Inn were just popular and busy. She was not one to question one’s business. She followed Krestel with great difficulty though she did not show it. Climbing the steps and entering behind him. He seemed a hyper sort of person when in the city, were as Selphia became quiet. Her gaze traveled about the Inn slowly before it came to Krestel and the man he spoke to. She would lean against the wall in hopes that it aided her in her attempt to remain upright.

The bearded man seemed pleasant enough. And Krestel seemed to know him well enough. Their conversation was short but she felt it had been fruitful when Krestel turned and wiggled the keys to a room in his hands. Finally she could get away from the room of people. Once in the room though she looked about. It was smaller and it held one bed. She turned to Krestel, “You can have the bed.” She told him, as she tossed her bedroll upon the floor. She looked about for a fire. She would feel comfortable lying next to it, or she hoped. So many voices in her head at the moment it was hard to focus on just Krestel.

“Is there a bath?”

It seemed that Selphia had swiftly made herself at home, as much as tossing equipment and traveling items along the floor had made it to be. Krestel traveled light. It was in his nature to resupply himself lightly, as he often moved from town to town, not expected many days in between the traveling time of one town to another. All he had was his weapons, which were the most noticeable items on him. Everything else he held remained within his clothing.

A confused set of eyes turned to Selphia, as she noticed just as instantly as he did, that there was only one bed; she insisted that he took it. He didn't speak, but surely it proved to be difficult for him not to think aloud. Does she expect I'd make a lady sleep on the floor? He didn't speak. Just shrugged slightly. He decided that when it did come time for them to rest he would sleep elsewhere, aside from the bed, allowing her to have it.

She asked if there was a bath. It had been some time sense Krestel had been to the Horseshoe. He vaguely remembered the several other inns he stayed within, which didn't supply a room, but rather a tub be sent to the room. However with an inn this large, surely, there was room for bath. "I believe there is a bathing room," his sentence cut short by his attempt at recollecting the memory. He continued quickly after his pause. "One for women, and one for men." He closed his eyes, and scratched the back of his head in thought, lowering it without notice. "I'll check and see." Krestel disappeared out the door, shutting it behind him.

Only short moments later would he return successful. "Just at the furthest end of the hall. On the left side should be the woman's quarters. Turns out there is one on each floor. Shouldn't be crowded then." Krestel gave a slight nod while he gave direction. "Feel free to bath. I need to collect some things from town. I'll return within the hour. Don't run off anywhere now. I can't be your sword if I can't find your hand." Krestel gave a slight wink, and disappeared behind the door once more, leaving her in the room. As he began distancing himself from her, like when he left to ask directions, he felt the connection snap once more. Like a tiny jolt of electricity hitting him. The feeling he got from her was odd, and he wanted so desperately to know what it was. He wanted to know so much more about Selphia. About her goal. Her destination. Her life. An attraction certainly crept up upon the man, but not one of lust, nor the way a man sees an erotic Temple Dancer. No, it was as if something compelled him to know. Like something was pushing him to gain this information.

Void it. he thought to himself, trying to empty his mind of the thoughts. He found himself out upon the town streets again. He moved hastily. He wanted to return to Selphia's side immediately. He also wanted not to be on the roads during nightfall.

Like she had previously thought Krestel was a hyper man. He seemed strange, well not like her brother at all. Galeon was calm at times to calm that she was sure that she drove him nuts with her behaviour. When she asked about the bath he had jumped to attention and abruptly left the room before she could tell him that she would be find. She did not wish to be a burden. For when one became a burden they were left behind. It was then that she thought of her brother. ~Where was he? Did he leave me….?~ these thoughts along with many others echoed in her head. It was not long before the thoughts faded and left her. Krestel zipped out of the room just as quickly as he came back. She had only unrolled her bedroll in front of the fire and he was back.

“Thank you.” She told him as she looked about the room. A pile of wood sat next to a handsome size of a hearth etched into the wall. She would take a knee and slowly start to make a small fire within the hearth. Hoping to warm the room so that it remained warm through the night. Her fingers moved to gather the slivers of wood that had fallen of the ticker logs, as well as a few smalls sticks and thin logs. She would take two small round stones from her pocket. Her brother had shown her how to hit the stones together to create a spark into order get the wood to catch. It took a few strikes but she was getting very good at it.

Krestel explained that there were several baths, one on each floor. She would have to seek them out after she warmed the room. Though at that time she did not know if it was wise to leave the fire unattended. The stone hearth would protect the room. Nothing could ignite a fire in the room unless the log rolled across the floor to the bed. Then blankets and sheets were waiting to go up in flames. These were the strange thoughts of Selphia’s returning. But once Krestel left the room she did not have to focus so hard on stopping them from coming.

~Don’t run away~ his words had sounded so firm. He had right mind to keep his word and guide her to her brother. She could only smile at the thought of continuing their journey. It was refreshing in a way. She turned her attention to building the fire once again, humming to herself in old Latin this time.

After a time she would head for the bath. Krestel’s directions were precise. She had had taken a towel from the room in order to dry herself off. Seeing that last time she did not have the privilege. She exited the room and headed for the bath. Her robes fixed about her once again so that no one could see under them. To the reason why, only her brother and herself knew. She did not feel comfortable in her own skin at times. But it was mostly the stares, the whispers that drove her to cover herself. If no one could see her then no one could comment.

She passed a few people on her way to the bath. A bowed head, a soft nod exchanged with those she passed before she got to the door. She practically tore the door of the hinges to get inside. She continued to hum to herself for it helped keep the voices out, if only for a while.

Once inside she would give the room the once over before disrobing and entering the ready made tub. Her clothing lay piled neatly upon a bench next to the tub. Steam rose off the water as she slipped her weary boned into it. A long sighs escaped her lips as she submerged herself once again and remained under the water for a great length of time. Peace finally.

The elf took to the streets in his dark clothing. The scarf around his neck flailed in the air, as he moved at a rather rushed pace. The city of Trevena was large. Large enough to hold multiple shops. To find the one Krestel deemed best would prove to be a task. For once he had moved through the streets unable to really decided where he should go. Even though night was upon everyone in Trevena the streets appeared to be as busy as they were during morning. Full families even wandered the streets. Sure it was a large and safe city, but were these people really all that care free? Maybe something within him had told him that he was simply being too paranoid.

Shrugging the thought off he continued traveling the paths, swiftly moving from shop to shop, until he found one he liked. A store which specific in selling traveler's equipment. He couldn't have asked for a better place. He turned and walked in. The inside of the store looked a lot bigger than the outside claimed it to be. Upon the walls were weapons. All of different sizes, from swords, to bows. Krestel hadn't used a bow in what felt like eons. Still just looking at it allowed his memory to grant him the ability to use one again, had he wanted to. Unfortunately a bow and arrow just wasn't what he wanted at the moment. However he did consider the options of keeping one handy. But money was tight.

"Greetings, sir." As if she appeared out of nowhere a woman appeared in front of him, taking his attention away from the bow on the wall. He turned and looked at her. She looked like a hard working woman. He hair was tied into a bun, and hidden under a bandanna. Her cloths were somewhat dirty compared to regular folk around town. "Need something?" Krestel nodded and looked around the store once more, finding the clothing.

"A cloak would do me well." His voice was firm, and spoken as if he rehearsed it. She nodded and led him over to the clothing that were hung along the side of the building, upon a counter. Boots, gloves, complete outfits were within the room. "You want something black, no?" It was obvious that was his desire. Everything else on him were either black, or of a darker color.

Time continued to pass. Eventually Krestel left the store, with a new black cloak. It covered most his entire body, all but the head. But that could be covered by the hood that rested upon his back. While this was his main desire he hadn't really wished for anything more than a meal at this point, but that could wait till he returned to the inn. He went through the town, looking through more shops, perhaps hoping to see something spark his interest.

Selphia’s time in the bath was indeed a long one. In fact she remained in the bath for sometime. She had heard a knock at the door, but whom ever it had been left after several knocks. She emerged her head for a few moments. This time it had not hurt for she was not startled out of the water as she had been with Krestel. She was able to prepare herself for the thoughts and voices. She would draw her legs toward her naked form, curling her arms about them; she held them to her chest for a time. As her chin rested upon her knees. Her eyes focused upon the water as she sat there.

Her thoughts drifted to recent events. Things were getting bad if Galeon and herself had to travel separately. She could not help but think that she was the cause, but she knew that Galeon was having a hard time of this as well as herself. Her head tilted back and she looked down at her chest. The darken flesh that was situated between her breasts was rather noticeable. Her fingers brushed against it. A shudder escaped her, as she could not understand the reasons behind her existence. A ripple of energy rushed forth into her fingertips. She palmed her palm against her and turned in the tub. Curling her pale form against the side of the tub. Soft sobs escaping her lips as she bowed her brow against the back of her hand.

It was moments like this that she had need of.

Krestel returned to the inn shortly after his venture. While he gathered a few more items he hadn't brought back any extra large luggage. It would be against his nature to travel with such things. While he found that he had arrived back on the street the inn was on nightfall would be well upon the town. He even noticed as people in the streets began to grow thin.

Krestel entered the Horseshoe Tavern. Before returning to his room he had walked over to the front desk, and had asked for dinner to be brought up to their room. An Elf waitress nodded, and would begin preparations for his demand. Krestel himself returned to the room he shared with Selphia.

He opened the door, and looked inside, only to find the room was empty. He blinked a couple times before completely walking in and looking about. A fire had been started. Did Selphia do it? He shrugged and figured that she had taken that bath she spoke of before he left. The thought rammed into the back of his mind like a train. This ment he was alone for the time being. He hadn't removed his boots, nor any of his clothing, aside from his cloak he purchased. He would lay that to the corner opposite of the bed. The fire lit the room wonderfully, giving it a bright hue. Shadows danced along the walls in unison with the fire. A small table was placed at the end of the room, across from the door, with the window just a few feet to the right side. Krestel placed himself there, waiting for Selphia to return.

Slipping back into the water again. This time she only allowed her head to go back so that her face reminded out of the water, and her ears were submerged. The only thing she would hear was her own thoughts racing through her head. Her hands covering each breast, as her fingers stretched out so that they surrounded the marking upon her chest. She would force her memories at times like this. Which actually inflicted more pain upon her, worst then what Krestel would have seen by the waterfall?

The more that she tried to recall her memories of her parents the more she couldn’t. It was almost like the memories were missing in their entirety, but she could recall certain things about them. Like that she had parents, and their names, that they raised her but nothing solid, nothing that she could connect to.

Her teeth grit tightly together, a soft whimper escaped her. Flashes came and then darkness. It was at that moment that she jetted out of the water in a panic, her heart pounding in her chest, her breathing erratic. She gasped for a breath, for control for something. But only sobs escaped. She leaned across her knees and wiped her face free of the water with her right hand.

She would take a few moments to collect herself. Climb out of the tub and dried herself off before returning to the room. Her head covered by the towel as she dried her hair as she walked down the hall. She would get to the room. Her head tilted to the side as she saw that the door was opened a little. She would venture in, glance to about the room. To find Krestel seated at the small table on the far side. She quickly moved to the hearth and knelt before it. Humming in her head the entire time, not wanting any memories of any person to enter her thoughts. It wasn’t fair. She could recall strangers stories, know their pasts and vaguely see their futures, but not her own. She released a frustrated grunt. Before she sat staring at the fire saying nothing.

Selphia's voice could be heard from behind the door. He looked to it as she spoke, and he responded in kind, letting her know it was only him. She entered the room, with the appearance of having had a bath. She was in there for a while. Or maybe I wasn't gone long. He knew it was the former. He had done quite a bit of walking in the time he was gone. She had moved over to the fire, only acknowledging him once before she tended to herself, silently placing herself where she wanted. Krestel only looked at in wonder. She had a look about her that he could familiarize himself with. One he shared many years ago, but had long rid himself off. Then again he could just be jumping to conclusions. After all he was no mind reader.

Deciding to break the silence, and feed a but of his curiosity he decided to speak to her. "Selphia," the words slipped out in a low tone only the two of them could hear over the crackling fire. His eyes gazed upon her head, in hopes she might look back to him. If she didn't it would too be ok. He already predicted that she might now. Though little was known between the two he could easily understand little about her. He continued on with his statement. "Has your brother been your only traveling companion?"

She had not wished to be as silent as she was. It was just the effects of her trying to recall fragments of her memories. If she were to explain her lack of recall to someone it would be like she had amnesia, but still held her memories. She just had the inability to see them clearly if at all those that were attached her emotions. Emotional memories in a way, like the love of a mother and father, those feelings were gone. There was nothing actually missing. Just pushed out, while others were mixed with others, making her mind a fractured thing. At times she was good, health and sane. But she had moments, sometimes brief and other times they were long, lasting days. And those days were day. That was the soul reason as to why her brother guarded her as he did.

She was starting to think that perhaps he had a feeling that she might hurt herself or someone else. That was why she could not believe he would stay away as long as he has when scouting. It was then that she felt that perhaps something was amiss, that he might be in trouble. She shook her head, placing her hands over her ears as if to block that would block her own thoughts.

~Selphia~

She turned hearing Krestel’s voice even before he spoke. Her hands slipped down the sides of her neck. Her right dropped to her lap while the other glided along her chest, her fingers brushing against the marking beneath her gown before it joined the other hand in her lap. His question was rather plain and yet she understood it fully. “MY brother was not the only one that traveled with us. My father started with us, but I don’t know how long ago that was and where he is now.” She told him, bowing her head. The force of recall was once again apparent upon her face, as the pain shifted across her brow. Her hand shot up to rub a temple. “Galeon told me he passed away. But I don’t believe him.”

Krestel's words seem to have broken her from the trance she was in. Her arms had fallen about her body, after having had been covering her ears. Krestel remembered this. It was when he first encountered her she had done something similar. He wondered why this was, but only left that curiosity to himself for the time being. Regardless she had answered the question he asked of her. His eyes gazed upon her, though it was hard to see the golden hues under the shadow his dark hair produced. She had told him her brother, and father were the only two she had traveled with, but her father had left them at a time in the past. His eyes lowered, feeling the sadness that emitted from her. However this had answered a certain question for him, but he had yet to be sure.

A faint hand rose, and brushed the dark strands from his face, allowing him some decent vision. His gaze remained fixated upon her. He wasn't quite sure what to say next. He ran through his various thoughts, all flooding through his head like a hurricane. He shook his head slightly, and stared at Selphia. "So what is your plan now? Do you wish to find him?" Krestel's voice had spoken in the upmost sincerity that he could apply.

Selphia’s voice was a little strained, she would pause and clear the emotion from her tones before continuing. “Yes I wish to find him. But this is the trick. I have to locate him within a city that I have no name to. Just directions as where to go, and he had told me south.” It was at that moment she wondered if it was truly south. She would have said North, knowing Galeon liked to play tricks with those that hunted them, but he would not go too far from her side. Sure he would be in a nearby city, but which? Her hand crossed her brow as a single digit curled and itched a spot in annoyance of not knowing where he actually was.

“I just don’t know where I am to start.” She said, her gaze dropping and looking at her hands. At that moment she tell so stupid for not knowing just where he was. She laughed aloud. “You must think me a fool. I don’t even know where to start.”

Out of frustration she rose abruptly from the floor. She would pace several times before stopping to look out the window. “Galeon never leaves his trail so hard to find unless he feels it no longer safe. I know what to do I just don’t know where to go. South I am to assume.”

Her hands rose to the window ledge. Her gaze lifted to the pale moon outside, that as it broke through the clouds cast its eerie white glow upon Selphia making her appear rather ghostly.

Krestel listened to her as she spoke. Her voice was a bit shaky as she gave out her first bit of information, but beyond that she had gained control over it. Krestel only gave a mind's eye to her as she spoke. The man she was looking for, her father. Where would he truly be? Definitely not here, in the northern lands, had she the need to venture south. In that instant the elf man felt the stupidity that fell upon his head when he decided to stop here. Though he had forgotten his intentions for being here.

She had spoken to him, perhaps wondering what he thought when she exclaimed he thought her a fool. Krestel shook his head, but before he could say anything she had began pacing, back and forth. Her feet tapped against the wooden floor below them, which each step she took, until it stopped, and she found herself at the window. Krestel himself rose to his feet, and moved behind Selphia, placing both his hands upon her shoulders.

"There is nothing foolish about traveling with no destination. So long as you have a goal. That should be enough to keep you going." Krestel all too well knew what it was like. He spent the majority, no, ALL of his life practically traveling with no destination. There was no pin point place that would allow him to accomplish his goals.

The man took Selphia, and turned her around to face him, keeping his hands placed upon her shoulders after she had turned. "I will travel with you, as far as you need. I'm not sure if you feel it too, but," Krestel's eyes fell down toward the floor. He wasn't sure if he was going to say what he had in his mind, but he quickly brought his composure back to where it was. "Ever sense meeting you I've felt this...connection to you. I can't explain it, but it makes me want to be near you. I dunno if you feel the same but," He released his hold from her shoulders, and turned his back to her, scratching the back of his head.

Now I must be the one who sounds like a damned fool.

She turned abruptly when Krestel’s hands touched her shoulders. Her pale gaze darted across her shoulder to his hand then to his face, a look of surprise within the white iris. Her hands curled under and pressed against the window ledge, as she turned, pretty much shrugging off the one hand while she locked her gaze upon his other hand. She did not know what to make of this abrupt forwardness. She was not use to anyone breaking her personal boundaries, even though she did not realize that she had them. She felt a little awkward as they stood looking at one another.

“I think I should know where I am heading if I am employing you to escort me, should I not?” she asked him, her gaze remaining locked as he then turned her fully about to look head on at her. He was rather close, a little too close for her comfort. Or so she was feeling, or felt she should feel. She was a little taken back that he touched her and was so close, as no one had ever
even shook her hand before, except her brother of course.

Her gaze studied his for a time. In the moment she felt a tug within her belly one that she had felt before, but dismissed, but this time it was much stronger and odd. She quirked up her left brow at his words. “Kres….” She started but stopped, seeing his otherwise preoccupied mind. He seemed to be troubling with something. She tilted her head to the side and waited for him to silly it in its entirety.

A blush crept across her pale features. Not that she thought that his words pertained to anything romantic, or anything of the like, she just never heard such words uttered to her, and regarding her in at all. “Can you explain?”

Krestel had still felt pretty foolish about what he said. He lowered his head slightly, to force his hair down toward his face, hiding it. Though Selphia was behind him, and no one else was in the room, it still made him feel better. Even if just a little bit. Something about that made him feel invisible.

Soon Selphia asked him to explain what he had mentioned earlier. Krestel went against all principles. All standards. All the rules. The more he thought about it the more troubled he felt. This would definitely keep him up tonight. While he couldn't find the words to explain himself he found something to say. Something that wouldn't make Selphia feel as though she were talking to herself.

"It's nothing. I'm just rather tired." Krestel turned himself to face Selphia. A smile was upon his face, though it wasn't a truthful one. A facial expression given to those whom learned what Krestel did. He hid his true emotions and thoughts behind this smile. He didn't wish her to see him the way he saw himself in that instant. For the first time in a long while he felt...weak.

"Let's get some rest. In the morning we can set off where ever you please."
"Some say we're born into the grave."
