Kala'a'i sat on an aquamarine urn, floating a short distance away from shore. She stared at the fishes swimming by beneath her. She looked up. "Shore! Thank you for this blessing Keenau! Thank you!" She started paddling toward the white beach, and the fishes followed her there. "I cant believe it, after all this time, land!" |

It wasn't often that he got the chance to be on his own. Of course he wasn't really alone with Ms. Ines and her group not far along the beach. He was safe to get out of their sight, at least for a little while though. The lady trusted him enough that he wouldn't try to escape. Esteban was searching for flint, or any suitable material for making arrowheads with. And the discarded feathers of shorebirds made cheap and quick materiel for fetching. Crouched with his fingers digging through the sand, he was far too busy investigating a chunk of black rock to notice a girl floating on an urn just across the waves. |

Kala'a'i was paddling toward the shore when a large wave came and she was washed up on the beach. For a while she just laid there, basking in the warm sun. When she stood up, she noticed a group of people scattered up and down the beach. She approached the one nearest to her, a warm smile on her face. |

((OOC: Hope I can jump in here?)) Arkantos sat meditatively on the shoreline, his cloak white and gold, this time, to help reflect the heat of the sun. His electrum-like hair poked out in small tufts from under the eaves of his helm, and he was using his glaive to make a lean-to for additional shade. "It's been a long time since I've been here...almost too long. I've forgotten the sounds of the sea again..." he said reflectively to himself as he looked up and down the beach. Then he noticed a several figures, one apparently gathering stones on the rocky areas of the shore, the other appeared to be attempting to ride an urn into shore?! Arkantos stared for a moment. A slight smile cracked his unusually pensive face, returning his expression to the normally grinning form. Standing up, he waved slightly, yet briskly, to the figure attempting to make their way to shore. "Excuse me! Hello there! Do you need help?!" he yelled cheerily. Of course, seeing as he was on Fincayra, isle of the elves, he spoke his father's language of High Elven, or as some generally call all Elvish speech, Sylvan. There were some slight dialect and grammatical differences between each elf race's form of their language, but for the most part each member could understand another, despite cultural differences. |

Kala'a'i heard a voice coming from further down the coast. She picked herself up, dusted off her clothes, picked up her urn, and headed toward the speaker, a young man with silver, or was it gold? hair. "Oh, no! I am fine, young sir! Do you need help with your lean to?" |

Arkantos looked down at his lean-to. He hadn't really made it to last for any extended duration, so of course the woman carrying the large jar would think he'd need help with it. He took a few steps forward into the sun, and his armor, bright steel inlaid with precious metals (the cost of which had nearly given his bursar a heart attack), nearly blinded him with the light from both the sun and the pure white sand. "Oh, this? No, I think I'm fine. I only came out here for the day, anyway." his bow was resting next to his glaive, and his quiver was slung next to it. Even when on vacation, of a sort, Arkantos never strayed far from what he saw as his uniform of station. "Ah, but where are my manners! I am Arkantos Halimar of Cithaelian, Knight of the Realm to the Kingdom of Avalon. May I ask what sort of name a beautiful woman like yourself would be graced with?" he said gallantly as he sketched a bow elegantly, even in this heat. |

He was focused, so focused. At last however he found the perfect stones. Just right t o be chipped into an arrow head but strong enough to avoid shattering during the process. Now all he needed ... were clean feathers. His ears twitched at a voice echoing across the beach. Placing his materials into the pack at his hip, he began the trek back to camp. His eyes however narrowed in concern as the strangers on the beach turned in the direction of the camp. A girl like that, alone ... His 'boss' would no doubt find her a good target. Against all thoughts of self preservation, he jogged over. It was not until he reached the girl that he stopped. Spinning round to blockade the path towards the camp, he kicked up the sand round him in his haste to halt. The lad somehow missed noticing the knightly figure emerging from the shelter. Catching his breath, he turned in such a way as if he was trying to block the girl's view of the camp at his back. Any previous thoughts at good samaritan acts were quickly abandoned. While slavery was not exactly illegal around these parts, the traders weren't exactly 'protected' either. Should he draw unwarranted attention to slavers and his 'boss', he would not be so readily forgiven. But, what could a young lad say to appear less suspicious? "Um ... hi." Insert feeble wave. |

" I am Sister Kala'a'i of Cantariin." Kala'a'i glared at the knight as he came up from his bow. " Never bow. Don't you remember your Teachings? Never bow to another, lest you should appear inferior in their eyes." Just then a young boy ran up to her. " Hello, child." |

Arkantos gave an admiring smirk as she scolded him. True, he was of elvish blood, but only half-elven. But he had spent most of his young life here in Fincayra. "Forgive me, Sister. But I am afraid the noble and wise Teachings of the land of Cantariin have not quite made it as far as the humble lands of Avalon." he laughed brightly at her admonishing ways, genuinely amused at her attitude. It was endearing, in a strict sort of way. Then Kala'a'i turned to address the young boy who had come running up to them. He had seen the child along the shoreline earlier, and had thought him merely an elf child who's parents had let him wander farther afield than usual. Now he could tell that the lad was a half-elf, much like himself. "Greetings, young lad. What brings you out here on such a fine day?" he inquired kindly. His weapons, save for his elven dagger, lay forgotten on the beach, for now. After all, a Knight in full armor could hardly find a threat from a woman with an urn, no matter how sizable, and a mere boy. |

"Um..." Damn social awkwardness! Well one supposed it to be a side effect of ... servitude. Not that he was really complaining. A bit lost on all this elvish customs and things, he simply ... stared. And caught his breath. "Ms. you weren't planning on heading towards those camps... Were you?" Finally, he spoke for longer than just two words. His voice however was a bit on the timid side. |

((Did you just call me fat Arkantos?)) Kala'a'i kneeled down and faced the boy at eye level. "What camps are you talking about, my dear boy?"she asked kindly. Kala'a'i looked down the shore, and saw the camps that the boy was talking about. "Are those ones over there the camps you were talking about? Do you want me to come?" |

He stepped back a little, unaccustomed to being looked in the eye. The boy was more used to being looked down upon. "No no no. I just saw you lookign that way earlier. You don't need to go there." Oh crap oh crap oh crap. "Um. But uh. I need to go." Hiding his hands behind his back in order to conceal the bracer on his wrist, he took another step back. "You don't need to bother with those camps. Well um. Bye." Securing the pack at his side, the boy turned and started heading back down the beach. After all, he still needed to find some good, sturdy feathers for his arrows. ))Gonna leave before the topic gets too far along, seeing as how I may be moving house soon.(( |

Arkantos gave the retreating form of the young boy an odd glance. There was something rather guilty in his mannerisms...not that Arkantos would ever be rude enough to make an issue of it. Then he turned back to Kala'a'i. "...Well. He was a nice lad. Seemed in an awful hurry, though. But I ramble. If I may be so bold, Sister, what brings you to our humble island of Fincayra? Surely you don't mean to attempt to ply your faith here; I'm afraid we've got far too many deities for our own good right now!" he gave a light laugh as he gently ribbed the sea elf. Looking at her in closer detail, he thought she seemed a bit weak, for her kind, at least. His eyebrows furrowed slightly as the wheels of his mind began to turn and cogitate a possible course of action. "Ah, excuse me, Sister Kala'a'i, but I was wondering if you've eaten recently? I have ample supplies a short distance away at one of my family's more unused cottages, if I can tempt you with anything...?" he asked as politely as he could, gesturing in the direction opposite from those of the camps that the young boy had gone and run off to. |

" I have been traveling the world on this urn of mine. Have you seen the magnifecent forests of Wudel? They are majestic. Trees as high as mountains. Awe inspiring." Kala'a'i stopped to catch her breath. " Yes, I would like it very much if youcould help me to obtain some food."

Arkantos's eyes gleamed with the prospect of hearing Kala'a'i tell him of her travels. As an avid reader of myth and lore, one of the half-elf's passions was the collection of traveler's tales. After all, he had reasoned, the seemingly ordinary quests and adventures of today might be the epic legends of the far future. He smiled helpfully as she took up his offer to help her. "Wonderful! If you please, then, follow me? I'll just grab my weapons and then we can be off. I am hoping you'll be willing to pay me back in the form of tales of your travels, Sister. You see, it's rather a hobby of mine to collect stories and tales of far-off lands. My mother and father have both told me I ought to have been a librarian instead of a Knight. In a way, I'm inclined to agree with them." he laughed at himself as he walked down the white sands to where his lean-to was located. Taking it apart with a few deft movements, he slung his quiver, the cloth he was using as the awning, and his bow into a sort of sack tied to the shaft of his glaive. Beckoning the sea elf farther along, he walked into the forest along a well-trodden and broad path, with flagstones spaced evenly between swathes of thick green grass to keep the balance of the artificial and the natural as ascetically pleasing as possible. Finally, Arkantos, hopefully with Kala'a'i in tow, arrived at their destination. It was a modest home, built in the High Elven style of seamless stone and an arcane beacon at the top to delineate the boundaries of the property. It looked like it had been devoid of visitors for a few years now, but it wasn't shown in any sign of wear or neglect; indeed, it looked perfectly maintained. No, it was the air of loneliness and nostalgia that seemed to hang around the place that made it seem so unkempt, all evidence to the contrary. Arkantos spoke a short phrase in High Elven to open the barrier-door before disappearing inside. A few moments later, his head popped back out again, this time lacking his helm on top of it to reveal his odd silver-gold hair that decried what some humans and elves both thought of as a half-breed parentage; a subject of scorn and derision among certain elves, and a focus of hatred, fear, and envy among the humans. "Ah, yes, I'm being absent-minded again, aren't I? Please, do come in. I've got some stew that's been sitting nicely since early this morning here, and any number of assorted beverages, if you wish." |
