The landscape was unbelievably exquisite, a sight that years ago the man who wandered the shores could only have dreamt of living to witness.. The gentle waves of the ocean crashed endlessly along the expanse of crystalline walls, the entire length of the coast ablaze with an iridescent flame from within. ”The life force of an immortal legend..” the man whispered softly to himself, glancing out over the waters as they came inwards to greet the flawless glass.. There was an odd calm as the ocean met the smooth outcroppings of glass, like a mixing of the elements. There was legend in Avalon, or so Tristan had heard, that this sacred place was a paradigm of healing for those with fire kindling in their hearts and souls.. Old wounds.. He looked down at himself where he was lit by the warm glow of the magical fires of the cliff. Given the time of night that it was, he was only half dressed; the tattoo’s that painted the upper portion of his chest plainly in sight, as well as the set of scars that tore across his abdomen.. Marks that had clearly been caused by the claws of something large, the three slashes running side by side with one another. They went well with the clean slash that ran through the center of his face. Scars of his service, he told himself.. Nothing to be ashamed of. Not that he had ever been ashamed of the scars themselves, only at times disheartened that he had allowed himself to be wounded in the first place.. All the same, mistakes lead to knowledge; he had survived the incidents, and now he was stronger for it. Besides, he knew that was not the nature of wound that the legends referred to. Injuries of the heart.. Pondering on such a thing, he found that he truly did not feel that he had any such burning pains.. No lingering desires for revenge. No pain of loss, nor of regret.. He stood along the cliffs, filled with the simple pleasure of seeing such a magnificent thing; filled only with the wonder of nature and the fulfillment of an inner urge to travel and explore.. Tristan Isenhart was not a man built around revenge, anger, or even despair.. The calm and tranquility of a wanderer rested in his soul, and in his unworried smile. He may have had no wounds to heal, but he still found the sight to be a cause of appreciative reverence… It was for sights and experiences such as this that he had left his homeland in order to travel to Avalon. To face the unknown, improve his skills and his knowledge; to see all the world had to offer him. That, and to bring the good faith and service of his patron Goddess to a land that apparently did not know of her in the slightest.. Sighing, he lowered himself down to sit as his eyes wandered out across the darkened ocean. This land, and all its inhabitants, they had truly proved to be a true wonder for Tristan. He had grown more during his time in Avalon than he had during all his training in the monasteries of his homeland. ”There are some things one might only learn by doing..” he told himself with a smile, nodding his head lightly as he laid back against the smooth glass. ”Which is why I have come…” Edited by Tristan Isenhart, Nov 20 2009, 06:06 AM.

Briana loved the coast, its secluded beaches and enchanted cliffs. She'd spent the past few months, slipping out unnoticed simply to come and explore more of Avalon's coast line. So once again as the sun slipped and the moon rose, the slave found herself free for a few hours. The Glass Cliffs, she'd heard the legend about their healing qualities, and beauty, and for once the gossips were true. She supressed a gasp at the impressive sight of seeing the light of the Pheonix that was contained within the cliffs. A gentle breeze toyed with her long curls. The coolness was refreshing. There was something about this place that soothed the soul, for the first time in a while Briana felt truly at peace. Apparently she wasnt the only one exploring tonight. Upon seeing the man, she hesitated for a moment. Should she turn back, and go some where else, or should she stay and go down to him. Choosing to stay, the dark haired woman quietly made her way down towards him, she was close enough now to see the scars on his body. But she didnt see them as disfigurements, in her opinion he wore his scars well. She paused, ready and wanting to say something, anything really, but not quite sure what. Perhaps something simple. Walking along the shoreline, Xue Jian was lost in thought, barely even seeing the ethereal luminance of the cliffs to one side. He'd received a ... revelation of sorts, while traveling from Rodirraen to Fincayra, and he'd stopped here to think things through. It had been little more than a feeling. A sense of need. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that he'd actually been led to this place somehow, but he could not work out what for or why ... only that he should come. And so it was that he didn't realize someone was nearby until he heard a man speak. "There are some things one might only learn by doing... which is why I have come…" The sage blinked. It was a sentiment he shared ... one he'd tried to live by. In fact, it was what had brought Xue Jian to the lands of Avalon in the first place. To hear it from another at that moment seemed almost too well timed, but then he'd come to the conclusion that almost nothing happened by pure coincidence. Perhaps this man, with his words that resonated with Xue Jian's own motivations, was the reason the sage had been ... summoned to this place here and now. Certain that the fellow had noticed him already, Xue Jian approached without hesitation, keeping his hands in plain view and making no threatening motions. It was a simple courtesy that came naturally to him now, having met so many strangers in the course of his time away from home. "Your pardon for intruding, traveler, but I can't help asking ... if some things must be learned by doing, then what have you come here to do and hence learn?" The question was delivered as one of simple curiosity, almost philosophical in tone and inflection, as if meant to start an academic discussion. That was only half true though, for Xue Jian was in fact, digging for a reason or proof .. anything that might confirm that his earlier revelation had led him here to meet with this man. |

At the words of the Sage, Tristan lightly leaned his head back and to the side so that he might glance up at the man who was approaching.. It had been a feat of sheer personal will to prevent himself from preparing defensive measures the moment he had heard the thoughtful footsteps of Xue Jian. As his eyes were ever quick to assess the aspects of his situation, he smiled to see that his restraint had been well placed; the posture and gestures of the man clearly meant to indicate a will of peace. Sitting back up, as it would be rude in his mind to converse from a sprawled position on the ground, Tristan slid aside a few feet and patted a hand on the ground beside him to indicate that his guest was welcomed to sit should he wish. For a moment or two, he was uncertain of how to respond; before a simple principle from his years as a monk drifted through his immediate thoughts. One of those simple, almost awkwardly basic lessons that always seemed oddly helpful. When you know now where to place your feet, then remember.. The best place to start, is always from the beginning. Bowing his head lightly, Tristan smiled before turning back to Xue Jian to offer reply, his multi-coloured optics focusing in on those of the Sage as an notion of comfort and trust. There had been no reason given for Tristan not to assume the best of this man, and he would not dishonour that fact. ”Some are selfish, others less so.. One of which is to be more sociable, among other things.” he stated with an almost playful air, before glancing out over the open expanse of ocean which lay before them.. Indeed, mere months ago he would have rounded on this peaceful traveler with weapons drawn. Yes, much personal improvement was required on his behalf.. His years spent in meditation and preparation for the hunting and slaying of evil had served to make him cold, concerned only with efficiency and with success. Here he would strive to undo such things. ”I have a wanderlust which drives me to seek out what I do not know, a soul that craves the din of battle and the thrill of a challenge..” he added in, his eyes drifting closed while pausing, admitting the last portion of his statement much more gently than he had the rest.. “…And a heart, which would do well to learn amiability.” He finished quietly, head turned towards the ground.. ”This is why I have come.. My life having been lived in conflict, I know nothing of peace. An imbalance which I deem unfitting.” |

The sage scrutinized Tristan with no small intensity. When the white-haired fellow offered him a place to sit and made a comment about being more sociable, Xue Jian suddenly realized that he'd completely forgotten his own manners along the way and inwardly winced. The man didn't seem to mind though, and he went to answer Xue Jian's question with far more detail than the sage had been expecting. "You are quite friendly for a man supposedly in need of amiability," Xue Jian commented lightly. He did not accept the offered seat, instead choosing to remain standing in his current position across from Tristan. He had placed himself on a slightly lower patch of glass, as to avoid looking down at Tristan as they conversed. "And I would argue that men do not truly appreciate peace until they have been without it. If you've lived your life in conflict, you may know more of peace than you think."
