Arkantos walked into the hall cheerily. In fact, he did most everything cheerily. He just seemed to be that sort of a fellow. Sure, the other Knights were creeped out by it sometimes, but a small dark seed in Arkantos kind of enjoyed freaking them out like that. After all, they took life far too seriously. He laughed at his own joke.

"Ha! Taking life too seriously, ooh, I'm good. Ah, what is that, situational irony? Ha ha! Ooh, I crack myself up sometimes. Hello, anyone here? For a Temple of Life, this place sure is empty....But I must admit I'm impressed with the tapestries..." he said brightly and loudly, his voice echoing up and down the hall as he stopped talking aloud to examine the tapestries in silence. Mounted soldiers on heavenly steeds vanquishing their foes, somber archers receiving blessed bows and arrows from beneficent spirits, a man smiling brightly at a beautiful young maiden carrying some sort of weapon, armies clashing, a mage summoning untold power from the ethos, another tapestry depicting a -

Arkantos shook his head slightly, turning away from the walls to focus inwards. The images had started to rush in front of him and make his vision blur. That was odd.

Today was Sunday, which usually meant that the tenants were out of the temple and doing their own thing. They all enjoyed different activities, whether in their own personal rooms, the common room or out in the fields. Halli found this opportune time to read a tome written for him by one of the older tenants. The old man and his wife had team written it, both forming quite the compelling romaction story. He was only half way through the first of the books, and three more sat waiting to be opened.

It told of a story of a rider and dragon, whom starting out friends, quickly became enemies over time. Their immortal lives led to disagreements. They began talking and acting behind each others backs. The dragon gained the ability to become a human and after taking the riders wife, became the riders greatest enemy. It was full of back plot, twists, turns, loop holes, supposedly busty women, and a great manner of other things. It was a very good read.

As he flipped a page, he caught site of a spark within the temple. Someone had come back for one reason or another. They showed stable vitals. He pulled himself off of his bear skin couch and left his room, down the stairs. He didn't bother finding a shirt, but did grab his sword belt. The rough, dirty shorts he wore would have to do. This was good for him anyway. He needed to get back out in the garden.

He walked down the hall, barefoot as normal and one of the butlers appeared.

"You might fancy getting dressed every once in a while?" She teased.

"I'm sure you don't mind, Mathilda." He said, giving her a sly wink. She just laughed and disappeared back to whatever she was doing. She was one of ten that had agreed to the up keep of the temple.

He walked into the great hall and walked up behind the man that had entered. He immediately realized that it wasn't one of his tenants. He clapped his hand firmly on the mans shoulder.

"Like the tapestries?"

Arkantos jumped and laughed at the ease at which the other man had surprised him.

"Why, yes, I do. They're quite beautiful, if a bit disturbing when they start to rush in front of your eyes like that. Tell me, is there a story behind that one?" he said, remarking to the man in knowledgeable tones. He knew a little bit about tapestries and the art and history behind them from his mother, but he'd yet to meet an expert on the subject. Still smiling hopefully, he pointed at the last one he'd seen, the one that he'd had trouble staring at beforehand. It depicted a disturbing scene to be sure. Seven robed figures stood in a circle and apparently opening some sort of portal, while several others, including what looked like a Warlord with swords emanating from her arms, and a pirate who carried two slightly curved blades at his waist, looked on. It was the only disturbing image he'd seen among the tapestries, and it was also the only one in which he could not place himself. Then he looked again. Sure enough, the tapestry had changed, this time to include a man with a shining bow on a silver steed taking aim, as if his arrow would seal the gateway from which unease radiated, even in woven form.

He looked at the tapestry. Everyone saw something different. But there was always one single image that would be seen by each individual at least once a day. It seemed that the tapestries knew how many times you would view them, because you'd always see them, whether it be one glance or a thousand.

"Everyone sees something different. Like me, I see a man in armor, sword drawn, battering back a line of undead. The background is full of lush, tropical forests and behind him, in the distance, his family lays in wait once the undead push past their last defense. It has many uses. If at at one point in time, you and your soul mate look at the tapestry, both would see the same thing." He had often asked passer-byers, mainly attractive women, what they see.

So far, nothing the same.

He didn't mind though. He had an attractive woman. One that he hadn't talked to, or in fact, given any 'special' attention to in a long time. He hardly ever saw her. He felt bad for it and decided to find her later.

"So, what else brings you here, besides sight seeing?" He posed his question after only a minute. He needed to rush this just a little. He had things he needed to get back to. Even if it was just either reading or gardening.

Arkantos nodded, his smile falling slightly at the mention that everyone saw something different.

"Oh. I understand. I was actually visiting here to become a follower of the god Halli. You don't know where his shrine might be, would you?" Arkantos asked. Evidently, he hadn't realized the fact that he was speaking to the god in question right now. But, it wasn't as if he could be blamed. All he saw in front of him was a normal man, and not the God of Life. Idly, he picked up a goblet that happened to be full of wine and drank it, his eyes widening slightly with surprise.

"What's this? This is a superb vintage of Fincayran Red.....it must have cost a fortune to buy it off of the elves." he remarked to no one in particular, smiling with amusement as he remembered the antics of his youth among the towers and canals of the Fincayran Capital in his boyhood.

He could only smile. He didn't fill his role very well. Often enough he had been down here, in the same state and people would often ask that same question. 'Can you direct me towards the God of Life's alter?' He motioned his head to the door.

"Come on, I'll show you to him." Before he had said it, he heard the man's comment on the wine. It hadn't been that hard to get. Just a few gold pieces and a good deed later and he was drinking some of the finest wine that Avalon had to offer. Often he was drinking a little too much of it. He walked out into the large hallway and took a right, the long route back to his personal quarters.

As they walked, he pointed things out of small attention: The stair to the roof, the large glass windows viewing the gardens, the East entrance, the West entrance, countless still motion tapestries and other odd bits and pieces. The stair to his office was spiral, hidden behind wall. It was carved out by magical means: His room was what used to be solid stone.

He hoped up the steps and into the office, leaving the door open. His room was very spartan compared to what another God might surround themselves with. A small bed, desk and wooden chair, leather couch, a table piled high with reading material, another table piled high with scientific studies and three full bookshelves of nothing but tomes and scrolls.

He took a seat behind the desk and cracked a grin.

"I understand you wanted to see me?"

Arkantos looked like he was about to burst into laughter. Which he did. Eventually he stopped, wiping a small tear from his eye with a gloved hand.

Then he sobered up somewhat.

"Ah, yes. You see, I'm a Knight of the Realm. Naturally, this entails having to kill people on occasion by order of the King. I wish to follow you, the God of Life, so that I may receive divine acknowledgement that the life I must take is purely for the preservation and protection of more, innocent lives. I would never be able to live with myself if I knowingly executed an innocent man, woman, or even, gods protect me, a child." he looked earnestly at Halli, before dropping down to one knee.

"Please, I wish to serve you, Great One. Guide me on the path that will help me to ensure innocent life by pruning that life which is sickened by Kioku's corruption, and blackened by Kaliyah's obsession with death."

He frowned. He would accept the man as a follower no doubt. What kind of God would he be if he didn't?

"I can assure you no guilt for a death, so long you take sound advice. Take with you the strongest bonds you can find. And instead if they are persecuted, do not kill them, bind them. Bring them before someone else and let them stand some sort of trial. If they are killed you can take pride in the fact that it was not you who dealt the killing blow."

His brow furrowed, what he just said sounded cold, calculating. Something he was not. Perhaps the position was already taking a toll on him.

"Look, if it ever happens, my newest follower, come fund me. Maybe I can help them back into their skin. And also, a few ground rules are going to be followed. First name basis. I take no title amongst friends, followers or anyone else. It's Halli, not Master, or Lord, or any of that poppy cock, got me? No bowing, no saluting, nothing the signify that I have anymore power than you."

He sighed. "What I don't mind is anything of the normal friendly manner. Call me nicknames, hang around and get drunk, shout obscenities at me as you leave, in good nature of course. I'm your friend, not your God. Can you take care of that?"
