The water was cool in contrast to the warmth of the air blowing through the forest. Little shards of sunlight danced across the waters surface making it sparkle as a single ray came down upon the little angel splashing in the water. Surfacing from under the water her long black curls were heavy with water dripping onto her shoulder. Her white dress clung tightly to her sides as she swam over to the waterfall and dived down under it only to come up on the other side. Bright blue eyes looked trough the falling water making her giggle much like a child as she spoke to herself, "Look at how pretty that is, that is a beautiful flower. I wonder what it smells like." With that she swam out from under the fall and moved towards the end of the pool. A small blue flower sprang out of a jumbled mess of grass and reeds. She remained in the water to avoid the humidity and overwhelming heat outside and gazed at the flower with fascination. looking up to the sky she smiled laying back on her back and floating in the water. Speaking to the flowers she asked, "Have any of you seen a unicorn come here? I am looking for one for my book. I need to met one so I can write about it...but I might take one of you pretty blue flowers for the book and write about you too. I need to get everything from Avalon...all under one cover." Flipping back onto her front she sank under the surface and had to flail to correct herself again ash she continued, "You know...can you keep a secret? Alright then...I want to tell you about a very pretty guy I know and honestly I don't know if I should tell him that I like him." The flowers bent in the wind a little and remained silent even if it seemed to Mag they were telling her something. Letting out a sigh she replied, "Oh." With that she swam up to the shore and climbed out shaking herself off and picking up her red cloak that had been sprawled out on the ground. Lifting it up she put it over her shoulders and sat down on a boulder crossing her legs. Her wet white dress clung to the boulder as her curls continued to drip trying to be rid of the moisture. She shivered a little as she let her cloak just rest upon her shoulders and she poked at the ground with a small stick. Letting out a sigh she glanced back up at the sky and looked back towards the village or at least in its direction contemplating if she wanted to go back yet or not. She would rather play in the woods forever but she had to be home before it was dark, and before the wolves came for little miss riding hood. Well she had been a shepardess why wouldn’t they? Little girl alone in the woods without a way to defend herself. |

Athrane had been lounging on a thick tree branch more than seventy-five feet off of the ground. He had changed into his wolven form earlier, and now, was resting with the sun shining down on his back. He was well-hidden by the cluster of trees around him, but if by some chance somebody was moving through the sky and just happened to look down, they'd see a black, ominous-looking shape residing on one of the highest tree branches. He, however, would pay them little attention. He'd been up late the night before, having lost track of the time, so he figured that today, he would catch up on the sleep that he missed. His left ear twitched once. Twice. His left eye, the pupil a bright gold flickered open. His other one remained closed, even as he turned his head to the side to gaze down at the pool of water below him. There was nobody in the water, but he spotted a dark form in the center of a large boulder. He looked more closely, and noticed that it was a young woman wrapped in a red, velvety cloak. She seemed to be alone, something that he never really understood. The forest could be a dangerous place, so why would anyone - let alone a young, innocent-looking girl - go out into it alone? Without giving it a second thought, he rolled off of the tree branch. He fell the through the air, falling through smaller branches and leaves alike. He reached forward, caught onto the tree opposite him, but instead of climbing down, stayed where he was. He was now a good twenty feet or so away from the girl, and could now see her more clearly. He hesitated before calling out to her, but when he did, his voice was steady and even friendly. "It is not a good idea to be out here alone, miss," he called, still clinging to the side of the tree by his claws. "The forest can be a dangerous place to those who are oblivious to the fact." |

Mag looked up as she heard a voice coming from above. For a moment her heart leaped with excitement as she thought about who it might be. Could it be her angel had finally come to her, the one she had always wanted to meet, her father? Eyes moved up to the trees as they sparkled with their childish innocents. So wide and filled with wonder, like pools of liquid heaven. Light fell down on her from the canopy above warming her and drying her dress beneath her red cloak. When she saw what sort of creature was above her she leapt up from the boulder and pulled her cloak tightly around her shoulders. It was a wolf, and not the sort that came after sheep but the sort that came after girls. She had met wolves before and none of them had done her any harm. If he was a wolf that meant he was more importantly a Lycan and she had learned from Akire that they were safe creatures...well some of them. "Oh...I am not oblivious to danger, and I need no protector to watch over me...I am not child." It was half lie half truth, she didn't need someone by her always holding her hand. Her courage had grown greatly since she had met her new friend and she was not afraid to stand up for herself anymore. However she also had this feeling that he was always just out of sight keeping an eye on her just incase. Kneeling down she picked one of the pretty blue flowers and tucked it away into her cloak before plucking another and standing back up to look towards the wolf again. For a moment she almost forgot he was there as she plucked each petal from the flower and whispered to herself. "Hmmm...he loves me, he loves me not, he loves me, he loves me not, he love...such silly little childish games. Fate decided by a flower. You can tell me no more then a glass of water." Tossing the flower back tot he ground she let out a sigh and realized the wolf was still up in the tree. Backing up she remained silent, tilting her head to the side a little as she watched him with curiosity. She was not so shy around Lycan's...especially when in animal form. She could talk to animals, it was people she shied away from. She viewed this wolf as nothing more then a puppy, one that if he got to close would be chased back up his tree by her big cat friend. Sitting down in a patch of grass she folded her hands and rested them in her lap asking kindly, "Do you have puppies...or a mate. If not then you aren't all that dangerous then are you. Wolves would kill anything to protect their den and mate...especially if she had pups. I am sure with Lycan's it must work the same way." |

"I have no mate," he replied. "Nor do I have any children. I can assure you that I will not harm you. I merely wanted to know why you were out here." He released his hold on the tree then, falling about thirty feet to the ground. He landed on it without a sound, collected himself, and walked over to one of the boulders across from the girl. She didn't mistake him for a threat, something that he thought was odd. He was sure that she would have run away from the first moment she laid eyes on him, and was quite surprised when she didn't. He took a seat down the edge of the rock, now a good ten feet away from her. He remained wary of her feelings about him; he didn't want to frighten her, but he did want to get a better look at her. She was quite attractive, and the fact that his appearance didn't push her away was a nice change. "What is your name, miss?" he asked her, his gleaming yellow eyes meeting her blue ones. |

She felt a little sad when he said he had no mate nor pups, she kind of wanted to see what baby Lycan's looked like. She was mostly interested in Lycan's, they were her first entry in her book on all the creatures and species in Avalon including plants. It was like a guide of everything writhing Avalon and maybe one day the whole world. She would be the first to put them all into one book. She had already thought of a name for this book: Creatures of Earth, From Kingdom Avalon to the Earths End. It was going to be the most useful book to any traveler or learned man. They would rely on the information she would put in there, and she would find it all by observation in order to get the correct information rather then have any of it be bias. Of course she was working on this book only when she was not trying to be a singer, dancer, or working as midwife or assistant to Akire and others who needed help. Not to forget Mag also busied herself with trying to learn the ways of a healer and herbalist. She better have a long life indeed otherwise this dream book of hers would never be finished. As the wolf got closer Mag shifted slightly in discomfort but did not move away. She remained silent until it asked for her name and she replied with a smile, "My name is Magdalene Naomi Rebecca Brim, but you can call me Mag, Maggie, Ruby, or Becka. They all work the same and I respond to them all the same." She had other nicknames but they were special to her, only one person was allowed to speak of those names. It was the only thing they shared just between Akire and her. "As for what I am doing out here...I like the forest, it is like a second home to me. I am a child of nature and I am quite adventurous. Besides you'll think I am silly but I was looking for...a unicorn. I want to see one, study it for my book. I already have all the bait I need to lure one in…me. They say they come to innocent women, virgins. That is how you capture and kill them, I only wish to watch one, however I shall never put where to find it. To many people try to kill them for me to give them away to the world." Slipping on her black shoes she gazed back up at the wolf and shrugged, "I don't supose you know where any are." |

"I agree, Maggie," he said. "The forest is a magnificent place. I've lived out here for Lord knows how long... it's tranquil, and for the most part, quite calm. I've come across the occasional band of hunters or raiders, but they were dealt with." Indeed, the forest was quite a remarkable area of nothing but nature and wildlife. He rarely ever visited the city, for he wasn't particularly fond of paved civilization. He had the ability to pass freely between his wolf and human form, but most of the time, he could be found in the former. "I may know the whereabouts of a unicorn or two. I've been just about everywhere in this forest. I'd be surprised if I came across a creature or specific plant that I've never seen before." |

She looked to the ground for a moment and replied, "The greatest danger I have ever faced I encountered at my own home. It was the day the slavers came and took me away from my home. I was...marked for a brothel and they had to take use through this very forest to make it to the city. well the men thought it would be wise to break me in first, I feared for my life but then..." Her expression became distant as she looked off to the sky. Her eyes almost matching its hue perfectly as she watched a cloud moved by. "...he came...and saved me. I owe him everything, my white knight." She pulled the little blue flower out of her cloak looking it over before showing it to the wolf, "Do you know what this flower is called? I have never seen it before." Holding it out to him she tilted her head again making her curls fall over her left shoulder as blue eyes met the petals of the flower. She wondered what sort of properties it might have if any. "By the way I never quite got your name." Her fingers wrapped around the stem of the flower holding it lightly between her thumb and pointer as it wilted a little. Quickly she pulled out a small leather bound book and flipped open it pages. Packed within each leaflet of paper was a single flower. Reds, blues, yellows, whites, purples, every color you could think of she had a flower for. Beside each flower she had it's name in at least three languages. Setting the blue flower down on an empty page she closed the book and tucked it away. Her notebook was rather handy for more then notes. Mag looked up to him with excited eyes as he said he might know where some might be. She jumped up from her spot and stepped closer to a tree almost pondering to herself is this was really all happening. turning back to him she smiled and spoke with almost an energetic whimper, "Can you take me...right now? I promise not to tell anyone about them, just for research." She didn't want to admit it but it was also for her own personal interest as well. She had heard stories of them and ever since she was a little girl had dreamed of befriending one. She knew the chances of being a friend to one were small, but just seeing one would be enough for her. |

He pondered Maggie’s story, wondering if she was going to affix it further. When she didn’t, and instead asked him what type of flower it was that she was holding, he plucked it out of her loosened grasp and held it under his nose. He inhaled its scent, and was immediately able to tell what the blossom was and what it was called. “A Nigella,” he said, handing it back to her. “It is a very attractive flower… I’ve seen a couple of them around before, but only during the Fall. Interesting… I’m Athrane. It’s nice to meet you, Maggie.” A smile played on his snout, one that couldn’t be mistaken for anything else. “I can take you there, yes… only if you don’t mind my carrying you there? Unless you have the acrobatic ability of somebody of my species?” |

Mag was rather interested in the flower and wrote it's name in her journal beside its blue petals. She would have to look it up in a library and talk to a few herbalists. Then she would make her own observations on it just to be certain. Of course a good look at a map and locating where they grew would be nice as well but that was all later. Right now the chance of a lifetime looked her in the face. When he introduced himself she looked back up at him and smiled offering him her hand to shake, "Well hello Athrane, it is a pleasure to meet you...and finally know what to call you." Taking hold of her still damp skirt she curtsied to him in a cute fashion and then listened to him further. Being carried about was not her idea of fun but if got her to the unicorns then she would do it, she would do it for them. "Well I am very good at climbing trees and I am rather spry, but I don't think I have the agility of a wolf. If I would have gotten my wings I would have been however. I don't mind being carried so long as I am not dropped or held to tightly. Ever since the slavers I get rather jumpy." She played with her curls a little and jumped slightly at a new thought that entered her mind, "Do I get to ride you?" She thought that seemed rather fun, like riding a giant puppy, only this puppy was large, had sharp claws and fangs, and gave her the slight chills. Fixing her red cloak more she pined t tight so it was not just resting on her shoulders and put her hood up over her head. With her white dress underneath all she needed was a picnic basket. She already had the distant starry look in her eyes. Sometimes Mag wondered if she just jumped out of one of her mothers stories one night and that was how she really was born. She did seem so much like the girls in the stories or did they seem so much like her? Either way she felt very fairy princess to often to not always get her head caught up in the clouds. Yet the idea of really seeing a unicorn grounded her rather nicely as she took out her inkwell pen and looked it over before stuffing it back into her cloak. "Alright I have everything I need, lets go." |

He guffawed. “It is a pleasure to meet you as well, miss Maggie,” he said, grinning as she offered him a womanly bow. His eyes widened a bit when she asked him if she ‘got to ride’ him, but he quickly understood what she meant. He chuckled, told her to hold on tight, and shrugged his shoulders, turning around to permit her to climb onto her back. Once she had done so, he took off into a full-fledged sprint, now on all fours. He tore past the trees and other underbrush of the Great Forest, before leaping into air. He landed a split second later, now in the midst of running at a surprisingly fast pace. All fours hit the ground as he traveled through the Forest, guessing that he had about fifteen or twenty minutes before they arrived at the area where he’d once spotted two pearly-white unicorns, horns and all. It was quite a sight then, and he was sure that his new companion would take pleasure in observing the animals, as well. |

Mag held onto his tightly yet made sure not to pull on his fur. She leaned down in order to keep her balance on his back as her ran. It was so different from riding a horse with a steady gate, she could tell wolves were not meant to be ridden and that mean neither were snow leopards. Her red clock flapped behind her as the wind blew through her hair giving her the sensation of flying. She had to remind herself not to put her arms out to her sides and try flapping them. Closing her eyes she just held on to keep her balance and imagined moving through the clouds just like she had always wanted too. It was unfair, she was an interesting being made uninteresting by a trick of genetics that kept her from what she deserved...wings. A pair of pearly white wings which to soar above the clouds with, was it to much to ask for? Well she would not be greedy, she had a good life at least. When she opened her eyes again her blue sky had vanished and only a green blur met her vision as the forest passed her by, or they passed the forest by. Leaning in closer to his ear she cried out over the sound of air rushing pass her ears, "So how much further until we reach it...wait should I be quiet so I don't frighten them off?" The thought only crossed her after she had realized how loud she was. Last thing she wanted to do was frighten them off. "Do you think they are a mating pair...do you think they have a baby this year? I wonder if they would stand still long enough for me to draw them." She wondered if she was innocent enough to touch them, just like in those hunting stories where the unicorn went over tot he innocent virgin and laid down next to her resting its head in her lap, she wanted that to happen but if it didn't it didn't. She was getting excited again as she looked around the forest watching a few birds fly low diving at one another. it reminded her of Peter, oh how she missed that little bird. Slowly but surly the forest began to fill in with more ferns and bushes making her feel closed in. The canopy above was filled in more only letting in shafts of light upon the forest floor. They were close she could feel it deep down. |

“You needn’t stay silent,” he responded, leaping over fallen tree trunks, avoiding mountain lions, bears, and other hostile creatures - none of which could threaten their lives; Athrane could easily outrun any of them -, and even over a steep crevice. Once he landed on the other side, he slowed himself down a bit. The trees here were more closer together, and unlike before, he had to be careful as not to accidentally collide head-first into one. “They mate, yes,” he replied. “Their mating season ended last Fall, but there is the occasional offspring at this time of year. Now hold on tight, alright?” He leapt into the air then, claws extended and digging into the tree bark. He scaled the towering woody plant, and in no time at all, had broken through its canopy and had landed on a thick tree branch. He shimmied across it more slowly, and when he reached the end of it, leapt from it onto another one. “Keep your eyes on the ground,” he said. “There’s bound to- “Look!” He stopped where he was, his snout pointed in the general direction of the magnificent animal. What looked like an abnormal shade of white moving about the forest floor, when looked at more closely, was a male unicorn. Its horn glistened in the sunlight, as did it as a whole. Rumor had it that its horn contained magical properties, and it disgusted Athrane to hear that these creatures were hunted and slain for said part. This unicorn, however, was far enough out in the forest that no human posed a threat to it. That thought alone was quite comforting. |

When he told her to be silent she did just that. She honestly didn't want to frighten them away, however many there were. She knew for sure unicorns were for the most part solitary creatures until they mated. They normally traveled in pairs during mating season and even after the foal was born and until it grew up. She honestly hoped to see a foal as well, but just a single unicorn would have been enough for her. When he told her that they normally had a foal this time of year she felt an electrical charge run down her back and make her body tingle. This was the best news ever for her, both on a research side of it and personal side of it. She might actually see how the stallion and mare interact with each other and their foal. Once they were settled up in the tree Athrane pointed out telling her to look. It was then her eyes fell upon it and an overpowering sense of joy and peace came over her. It was a stallion, his graceful movement caught her attention as he pranced across the ground. His body seemed illuminated from within, his long mane flew about wildly as he tossed his head and snorted. She watched with wonder climbing off the wolf and crawling closer to the end of the branch as the stallion stopped and pawed at the ground shaking his head again. Mags fingers clung to the tree branch as her jaw dropped and the mare moved out from her hiding place joining the stallion. Their horns spiraled up to the heavens like a beacon of hope in these dark times. Mag knew deep down that so long as they were alive and walked the world peace, innocents, laughter, and joy could never be touched by darkness. It made Mag feel good inside to see the two creatures prance together and rear up lightly nipping at one another’s necks. Whispering to herself she smiled, "Their playing with each other...no, their dancing." She gazed at the two glowing equines in a dream like gaze slowly inching closer to the end of the branch before stopping again. Looking at the stallion she watched as he whipped his head and stomped his foot looking over tot he tree. Glancing back at the mare he nickered lightly to her making her back up a little and move her body closer to a small thicket. Slowly the stallion moved towards the tree, his nostrils flaring as he came to stand beneath it pawing at the ground and tossing his head up and down lightly. Mag continued to look at the stallion mesmerized by him and that was when their eyes met. She felt a strange sensation wash over her, complete serenity and trust. rearing up the stallion snorted pawing at the air before crashing down on all fours and tossing his head again. Mag giggled as if it meant something to her. She could hear something in her head. It seemed like something you could not understand unless you were a child or completely and utterly innocent like she was, untouched and part angel to boot. Without looking at Athrane she spoke quietly with a distant tone in her voice, "he wants us to come down...he won’t hurt us, he is curious...he wants to know why I glow." |

Without a word, Athrane reached forward to pluck Mag off of the branch before setting her on his back once again. Making sure that she was holding on, He leapt off of the tree in a graceful manner before catching onto one that was closer to where the unicorn waited. Without bothering to begin his slow descent down the towering trunk, he simply let go of the overgrown tree and in another second, landed on the forest floor below. The horned creature's posture did not waiver as Athrane, the big brute of a wolf as he was landed before it. Instead, it walked up to the wolf and pressed its nose against Mag's cloaked shoulder. Lowering himself to permit her access to climb off of her back, Athrane kept his glowing yellow eyes on the magnificent sight before him. He'd seen unicorns before, but never this up close. He reached out, slowly and deliberately as not to frighten the creature, and stroked its main with one large finger. "Amazing..." he said in a low voice, chortling softly as the horse pressed its head against his thick, furry, and toned forearm. It showed no signs of fear being petted by the Anthro. He wondered if Mag's innocent, sweet presence was what drew - and kept it - towards them both. |

Mag held on tight as the wolf brought her down to the ground, the stallion flared his nostrils to take in their scent. His warm brown eyes fixed upon them, studying them. His mare still stayed hidden in the bushes, he didn't want her to come out. Mares were cautious creatures in comparison to the stallions. Perhaps it was they were not as strong and unable to defend themselves if attacked. No, Mag would never underestimate either of them, they were the most magical and magnificent creatures she had ever seen. As she climbed down from Athrane for the second time she stood just off tot eh side of him as he pet the unicorn, her eyes wide with joy. Slowly her hand moved towards the creature yet apart of her refused to touch it. She was startled when the stallion swung his head over to look at her, her mane fluttered lightly in the wind as he snorted and set his nose in her palm. He sat there taking in her scent for a moment before letting his ears swivel around to listen to the rest of the forest. Attention turned back on Mag the stallion licked her palm lightly and then moved forward a little closer to nudge her in the shoulder. Turning his head back the stallion looked in the direction of his mare and let out a sound that was not the ordinary voice of a horse. He did not nicker at her like Mag would have expected but let out a strange call that resembled a high pitch whale call. The melody of the unicorns voice was almost like a song, one that Mag felt deep in her soul. As the mare snuck out from behind the foliage, ears aimed in their directions Mag thought she would give the strange sound a try. She mimicked the stallion playfully making a sound rather close to the whale like song but not as powerful and magical. Turning his head the stallion looked back at Mag and nudged her again sniffed her over. It was as if he almost mistook her for one of them at that moment. Before long however his attention was back on his mare who was creeping a little closer and shooting a glance back at the thicket. With a soft tone the mare let out a whinny to the thicket. Not long after she had a smaller voice replied to her as a small foal pranced out. It couldn't have been any older then a day, it's fur still curly, it's legs thin and long. The foal stayed closer to the mare hiding behind her, his tail flicked up in the air as his short mane fluttered while prancing along. Mag put a hand over her mouth to hold back any excitement or cry for joy she might have made at the sight of the cute little colt. It didn't have much of a horn yet, about an inch long little white horn came out of the colts forehead mostly covered by his forelock. He was nothing like his proud and magnificent parents, but he was not a weak little beast either. Mag got to the ground kneeling on her knees as she put her hand out with wide eyes. The stallion gazed down at Mag standing near her protectively as if she was just his young foal as well. Before long the stallion worked himself down laying out before Mag. She could hardly believe it, a whole family and a stallion laying next to her just like in the stories. |
