Slowly walking past each tree, the human gasped for air. The arrow that had punctured his waist had been removed, but that didn't stop the bleeding. It was hard to focus on walking in one direction with trees blocking his path and the rain pouring down on him. He loved the rain, but it made his hair go flat down. After reaching a pile of wood and a few stumps, Thorne collapsed to the ground.

What happened to me? Am I still...Alive? The boy opened his eyes to see himself laying in a puddle of mud. The rain kept coming down as Thorne crawled to a tree that had enough leaves for a shelter. After positioning himself agianst the tree for comfort, he moved the bloody cloth from is stomach and noticed the blood had stopped. How long was I out? The human asked himself as the rain blurred his vision worse than it already was.

The forest was the type of place that Ayalan felt at ease within, tall trees, babbling books and chirping birds. How could one not enjoy themselves? Ayalan had often sat upon an old aged tree stump covered in moss, which made it more comfortable. Her form being rather flimsy, and thin, the next padding was very much needed. She sat silently upon this stump staring at her hands. They were slender and soft, not like the strength she had thought that human’s hands would be. Female hands are what she had. Those she had come in contact with had told her that she had womanly hand, that they soft and meek, unable to hold anything more then 10 pounds tops. Ayalan furrowed her brow and tucked her hands beneath herself.

~Such a meek and hollow form this is. ~

~Dearest friend, why do sit and wallow? ~ The soft speech of her friend entered her thoughts.

She did not turn for she knew that Tez was always close by. He would speak when he wished and remained silent when he had nothing worth saying. She would turn her dazzling gaze in the direction of the sweet scent that filtered the air just a few feet in front of her. She drew a deep breath as her back pressed against the truck of a tree behind her. Her hands clasp about the front of her legs as she carefully balanced herself upon the stump.

~I sit because I tire. I never use to tire. I never use to sleep as I do. This form it is vexing, and trying in times when I care not. ~

The soft rumble of laughter entered her mind. Her brow became fixed in anger at her friend. She turned her head away sharply. Long brown locks flaring out across her shoulder, and down her back. The feel of the soft strands caused her to stir just a little as she looked at the forest about her.

~Aye, so this is why you are not singing. ~

~Tez, there is a time and place for such and this is not that time. ~

She could feel his mood shift to match her own. Tez was often affected by her mood, and it was often done to make her feel better. She did not like being the cause for his solemn mood. Ayalan did not like affecting anyone, least of her only, and dearest friend Tez.

A soft rumbling soon came and the rain fall hard and steady. She smiled when she hard Tez grumble about getting water. She pushed herself up to a seated position and looked about the clearing below where they sat. The wind started up, blowing the rain in a horizontal angle. It was at this time that a strange scent caught her attention. She heard Tez grumble something as well.

~Ayalan, I smell blood.~

Ayalan nodded her head and narrowed her eyes to search the forest for any sign of anyone. She tilted her head to the side when she saw movement down the bray and across the clearing. Before Tez could stop her or go ahead of her she was gone.

She loved running in the rain; it was in fact improving her spirits and her mood. Her long dark locks slick against her head, and trailing down her back. Her robe she had left under the tree. Her gown was still partially dry when she came down the bray, but once in the meadow that covered the area between the bray and the clearing, her gown was becoming rather heavy due to the wet. The scent of blood was gaining in its potency the closer she got. Was it an animal wounded by a hunter’s arrow? The thought angered her as she gained more speed.

She broke the tall blades of wet wheat and came into the clearing. It was there she saw through the rain the form of a person. Her eyes narrowed as she came quickly upon it. Not giving it the time to see her coming.

Her hand rose to shield the rain from her eyes. She stood behind the person and narrowed her eyes. Her thoughts raced as to how to deal with him. It was upon closer observation that she realized he was a man, and an injured man at that. He drew back the cloth across his stomach. A wound was seen and the wound should turn her off, possibly ill from it. But it did not shake her nor upset her.

“You are in need of aid?” She asked looking at the man’s back.

~Ayalan, is this wise? ~

Mentally she hushed Tez, telling him to mind himself and watch from afar. She would call if she needed him.

The human opened his eyes to see a girl infront him. While she asked him if he needed help, he looked around at his surrounded and took note to the rain that was still coming down hard. Actually. I think I do. Thorne removed the bloody cloth then put it on the ground, next to his leg. He used the tree to bring himself up then stold infront the young woman.

He looked at her eyes, but only saw a blur. Thorne put his muddy hand on his forehead then pushed up, so he could get his hair out his face. He used the back of his to push the mud out his face then looked back at the girl. The human smiled as best he could then replied to a calm voice. It would be great if you could clean this wound for me. Thorne raised his shirt and showed the girl the wound that was to the left of his belly button. The wound had closed, but the human started wondering of what things could happen from the dirt being inside him.

Ayalan looked down at the man. Her gaze fixed upon the wound he was quick to reveal. Her head turned to look about them. Was he injured here? She pondered for a moment then looked back at the man.

“Can you walk?” He was a silly question but one worth asking. If he did not wish to be set upon again by whatever it was that placed him in this position then he best move. She knew these woods were not the safest, but she had protection. She did not move to aid him, for she did not think he had need of such aid. And if he did he would tell her so.

One would think Ayalan a strange one, but she was who she was. She did not invade anyone’s space, as she did not like her own invaded by those that were too pushy and forward. Making her trips to town short and sweet. She tilted her head to the side studying the man for a time before motioning for him to hurry and make his choice to follow her or remain here and be set upon again.

Before the words exited his mouth, he thought about what was going on. First, I left the town and walked into a forest. Then, I got attacked by strange looking creatures that shot arrows at me. Now, I'm about to go to somewhere I've probaly never been with a girl I've never seen before. Well. It's better than dieing here. Thorne smiled at the girl then nodded as he followed her. Although he was limping, he was almost going as fast as he walked.

As they walked through the forest, then rail dropped like rocks. The rain coming down helped the pain. His mind began running wild while the rain made music. The human looked over to his companion a few times then wondered what her story was. I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce myself earlier. My names Thorne. What's yours?

Ayalan assessed the man before her. His wounds were serious and yet she could tell that death was not near. His injuries did not have that scent to them. One would wonder how one such as Ayalan knew such things. It was simple, though it would be hard for one to believe her reasons for such gifts. Though to her they were not gifts, they were part of who she was, of what she was.

Her eyes narrowed upon the man, as he seemed to need to make conversation. Ayalan was not all that talkative, well not with strangers. In fact she was certain it was not the fact that he was a stranger at all. He told her his name as if they were to become friends it was strange. She tilted her head to the side as if to half listen to him. She would not reply for silence was the best thing to keep at this moment. Her hand rose sharply behind her, a subtle warning for him to be silent. Whatever it might have been that hurt him might still be here.

~Ayalan, are you well? ~

She heard Tez’s thoughts stretch through the forest and touch her mind. She would reply quickly and explain that she was bringing a man to the hillside that she had left him upon. And that Tez should watch the area for any sign of danger.

Her dark eyes turned upon the man. “Thorne? ‘Tis a strange name for a man.” She said, her tone was not all too harsh, nor did it convey any warmth. She was not a cold creature just not use to stranger such as this man. “You are named after the painful part of a rose.”

She would explain to him, as if he did not know, or as if to leave him to answer her. Which ever he chose.

He watched as she motioned for him to be quiet. The human wasn't quite sure what was around them, but anyone could tell you how creepy this forest was. A brief moment passed then she joined in the conversation. Thorne smirked at her comment. My birthmother decided to leave me with no name nor love. I never really knew why the people I knew called me this. I've never really thought about it. His face lost all his emotions as he stared at the ground while they walked.

The walk was dead silent, except for the branches the boy continously stepped on, and Thorne ept looking into the darkness that was beside them. Every few steps sounds like miniture voices around the travlers. Evil ones, at that. It almost sounded as if they were things wispering among themselves. What could they be saying? Is it about us? I bet they want our blood! Thorne argued in his head for which felt like hours.

Upon reaching a hill, the human felt somehow relaxed. It was easier to breath and his vision was almost back to normal. His energy felt replenished and he began walking, rather than limping. This place seems...Different. Thorne thought as he looked around anxiously.

Ayalan looked down at the man, he appeared to look rather feverish. The wound was possibly affecting him. She furrowed her brow knowing that she would have to get her hands dirty here. Her ears remained pricked to the world surrounding them. With her hand extended outward, she felt the ripple of energies circling about them. Most of what she could feel was tiny flickers from this man, while the other belong to Tez. His reply to the reason for his name did not draw a snicker or a laugh from Ayalan. In fact he gained more pity then anything.

A quiet hush came from her as she climbed the bray that would take her back to Tez. Leaving the darkness of the forest to whatever it was that had caused the injury to this man. This part of the woods Ayalan knew they were safe. In fact she did not have a moment where she did not feel safe. She looked down Thorne.

“Whom did you owe money to?” Was her next question, for men were known well for their greed. Or so she had heard. She would circle him with downcast eyes.

~Careful Ayalan. ~ Tez’s warning flooded her thoughts.

The warning puzzled Ayalan. What would she need to be careful of, she was always very careful of what she did and got herself involved with. Perhaps Tez was leery of this man. Whatever their feelings toward the man she had to stop his bleeding or whatever initially hurt him might come this way.

“Take off that wrap. The wound needs cleaned.” She told him as she assessed what she could of him from a distance.

~Ayalan, a salve of E’lai would help heal it quicker then human salves. ~

Ayalan’s eyes narrowed and her face gave a serious expression of concern. She turned and looked to the trees. She would remain like this for a time before she agreed with Tez. She turned sharply about to Thorne. “Remain here. I shall return but a moment.”

Without a word she headed down the bray on the opposite side and under the hanging branches of the weeping willow she had been under earlier. Her concern was more for Tez then the man. The E’lai salve was not the easiest things to make. But if Tez said it was the best, she would have to agree. Her concern now was Tez, she did not wish to harm him, but he was willing and more then able. She glanced back to make sure that Thorne remained put, then continued along the small trail.

The town folk just seem to have it out for me. Never was on their good terms. Thorne said as she began walking away. He began unwrapping the covering on the wound then tossed it to the ground. He lowered his shirt and stared at the hill as he waited for the girl. That girl...She's so willing to help a stranger. I guess I got lucky. If she wouldn't have found me, I might have passed out. The human watched the clouds and thought about his journey. Thinking of what lies ahead, gave Thorne the feeling of fear.

Ayalan had wandered down the path looking along both sides of the tall grass for the flower she had need of. E`laki was a wild flower that she had often come across in the more marshy places within the wood. Venturing a little further into the dense wood then she had wished to do. She angled her head to the side and looked along the moisten ground. The small red leaves she could see just sticking out the moss that clung to the toppled trees and under old rotten logs. It was a strange place for such a flower to bloom. Quicken her pace across the marshy ground and finally came to the flower.

Ayalan bent down and carefully plucked the flower from its place upon the ground. She was careful in how she did it. For she did not wish to disturb the root, for the root was where the potent salve was made from. Having secured it and quickly returned to Throne.

Her eyes narrowed upon the man, and then looking about the area for Tez. She gave a soft nod and then stepped forward. Her hands held the root carefully in place. She would place it in a cloth that she had wrapped within her belt. Gently placing it upon the ground she went forth to create a small fire. For the salve had to be boiled before it was made into a nice thick paste.

The time in total to make the salve was as long as the fire took to boil it. She looked to Thorne. “Do you trust me?” It was a simple question, but she knew the answer before he replied, the look upon her face was a cool one, little emotions in regards to his human emotions that would tell her that he trusted her completely. Which was an odd thought but a human one.

Thorne wondered if he really did tust her. After all, he did just meet her. She was just another stranger in the world that they lived in. How cold she be trusted so easily? Then agian, she did basicly save him from death. After battling with the ups and downs, he realized he actually had a bond with her. It may not have been the most common bond, but Thorne wasn't the most common human. Yes. I'll try not to squirm, I guess. Thorne removed his sword then placed it on the wet dirt then lifted his shirt and awaited for the young woman to work her magic.

She tilted her head to the side. “Close your eyes and keep them shut. Do not open them for any reason whatsoever.” This was a demand. She quickly moved to the E’laki that sat upon a leaf at the side of the fire. The smell was not at all pleasant but then good healing agents did not need to be. She turned toward the man, eyes narrowed making sure he was not looking at all.

~Tez, I need you. ~

Her thoughts flickered through the trees toward Tez. His large frame came into the light as his talon reached up and moved across an aging scale. Its time had come and it was almost ready to drop off. What luck this man had to come across them when he did. His talon broke the scale free with great pain still; even though it was old it still smarted.

Ayalan gaze remained upon the man, with her hand extended. She would take the offered scale and place it over the leaf. Allowing it to heat up for a time. She would be able to crumble it into a powder once it was settled in the E`laki and heat.

Once the scale was acquired she hushed Tez back to his shadows. She looked at the man and wondered what had occurred to cause his injuries. But like all things, this was not her concern.

“It will hurt.” She told him, as if to psych him up for the salve that she was to place upon the wound. Her bright eyes looking upon his face.

The human closed his eyes tightly. As he waited in the pure darkness, he tried listening to what was going on. All he could he was rain and his own breathing. What's she doing? Why must I close my eyes? I guess the only thing I can do is trust in her. I'm sure she won't do anything I wouldn't aprove of any- His thoughts were cut off by a smell that was deffinitly not rain. Thorne sneezed then wiped his nose on his sleeve.

"It will hurt." Her voice calmed his nerves. He only had one thing on his mind. Should he open his eyes or keep them closed? When Thorne opened his eyes, he felt a sharp pain where the wound was. He quickly closed his eyes and strained to ignore the pain. All it did was make it worse. He opened up his eyes to see his eyes exactly leveled with her. He smiled as he faught back to hold a tear. It ran down his cheeck almost as fast as the rain fell from above.

Thank you. The pain went away a few moments later. The human looked into the sky and saw the last rain drop his the dirt. The clouds moved and the sun showed it's bright and shinny face. I guess everything ends after so long. The human stretched then yawned. He picked up his sword then put it back in it's shealth.

A strange reaction human had to pain. Their faces and bodies twist and turn, and yet they do not yell out in pain. That is unless one if not trying to break one’s will. That sound is tragic. Ayalan looked at Thorn as she placed the salve upon the wound. He tensed and then relaxed. Trusting in her his being. She could have taken a rock and hit him up side the head he was that trusting. Foolish is all she could think.

Her shimmering green orbs regard Thorne for the time he takes to let the salve do its job. Studying his face as the raindrops race across his features. His hair was flat against his head, and as he looked to her it was a little unnerved by his eyes, and more so by his words. A simple thank you.

Her fingers curled under her feet, as she did not know at the time what to do with them. Her thoughts raced for a simple reply back. “Your welcome.”

The words sounded so strange to her. Perhaps these humans were not as she believed they were. Incapable of anything other then war, but then she watched him pick up his sword and sheath it. She stood slowly and took a few steps back from him.

~Ayalan?~

Tez’s thoughts touch her own. She did not answer him. She just retreated a few more steps.
