It's kind of tough to tell a scruff the big mistake he's making .
It was a simple matter. Another day another dollar. In order to survive the world these days, money was required. He could care less as to the old phrase 'but it can't buy you happiness'. All that matter was the cold, harsh, reality that coppers and coins were required to survive. That was life, he accepted it, and moved on. Moving on ahead of the caravan he led, that is.

How very stereotypical a thing it was, three wagon loaded chock full of very pretty things. Fine wine, sparkling jewels, and rare fruits were the cargo of these carts. Oh, and of course one very large chest full of silver. Ah but no mercenary was he, hence his being head of the pack. The young man was scouting ahead, making sure no traps lay in wait along the road.

Such precautionary gestures were required in this day and age, with bandits and killers lurking the dark. The large hill up ahead seemed the perfect location for a trap. As the mules and horses cautiously made their way down the slope, an ambush could be set. It was his job to check for such things then find an alternate path or preemptive attack. Crawling on his belly he slowly overtook the hill, his gaze focusing on the foliage down below.

He sensed something was very awry.

News has it that there was a wealthy prey coming on to this area. Wealthy indeed. That was why Reiku was the first to get into position. Actually. He was the one that heard the news from his scouts. So he went on and set off a little welcoming mat for those that would bring him his riches. He already plotted it out and was already considering the wealth he would obtain as his. He smirked as the caravan soon reached the position just before the hill. Reiku on the other hand had something after the hill.

Just after the hill, there were several broken wagons. There were ashes on the ground and there were even wagons that were still on fire. There doesn't seem to be any people but there was blood all over the place. Reiku kept his position, waiting for someone to come by the wreckage. Only he was here. His scouts were...somewhere else.

Crawling across the earth, he crested the hill after a few moments. He was very slow and cautious in his movements, dark clothes blending in with the dirt and foliage strewn across the trail. At his back, far beyond this hill, he had left the caravans waiting. They would not leave their position until he returned and gave the okay for going ahead on his own. The sight that met his eyes upon over taking the hill had been opposite of what he expected. The area seemed perfect for an ambush, of this he was not surprised. What did surprise him was that it seemed an ambush already happened! Scanning the wreckage and the razed caravans, he sought out some form of life.

Peering through the slowly fading daylight, he saw it. Blood. And it almost seemed to be fresh. Now he was torn however. To investigate on his own and seek out survivors, or trek back and inform his employers? After a moment or two of hesitation, he made his choice. His employers would no doubt leave this other caravan to their fate, to save on the time they'd lose in taking a different path to avoid the slaughter. Rising slowly, he flipped the latch of his sword to his belt, then slowly began making his way down the hill.

As soon as the man had turned, the blood pool started to crawl up to the peak of the hill. The blood was his own and it had a trick up it's sleeve. The blood then started to go up into the sky in form of drops. As if someone had inverted the gravitational pull and the blood was spilling upwards in drops. Each of those, upon reaching a height that overlooked the caravan formed into gray metal balls. It was a bit of a disturbing sight to see and it wasn't exactly stealthy either.

When most of the waning sunlight had been blotted out, these balls turned into black glowing daggers and shot out, raining down on the caravan. It mostly picked off the guards and the drivers, killing them so as to gain more access to the goods. Only the people were targeted and several of these lightning harpoons were aimed for the scout...and fired.

In all his years as a scout he had witnessed many strange things. But the events unfolding before him really took the cake. Peering through the dark, he saw the earth move, and soon realized it was not earth. No, the very blood he'd seen spilled upon the earth had risen up like ... well some sort of magic he supposed. Damn it! There was no way he could turn back and warn the caravan now. He had made a wrong choice. And now others were paying for it.

Well, it came with the territory. He held no love for his employers other than the money they'd provide, but still, he hated messing up in his job. It really gave one a bad reputation. With another curse he'd move to scrabble up the hill. Until his eyes caught sight of a projectile glimmering in the faded sunlight. The scout did the only thing a mortal man with no magic to safeguard himself could do.

Kendrick high tailed it outta there. Ducking a fallen dagger, he moved at a roll to tumble down the hill. At least he was skilled at evasion, the tracker mused as he came to a halt. Not bothering to brush the dirt and muck from himself, he dove again beneath the fallen ruins of a caravan. Rolling to his belly he drew the sword from his hip, gaze searching out the ruins to seek out whatever enemy had ambushed them.

After the attack, no it wasn't an attack. It was a massacre. After that sudden display of brutal entrapment, Reiku's scouts approached from behind the caravan. They killed off the surviving able bodied men. The women and children and sickly were captured to be sent to a nearby village later. Then, they started to ransack and rob the caravan clean of all their wealth. Truly a highly rewarding job and an easy bait to take.

As the scouts did their job, Reiku already did his. Yes, it was a terribly long preparation but he was able to pull of that devastating rain or darkness and murder. He didn't realize that there was one that survived as he climbed out of one of the wreckage (a fake one, just for play) and went out in the open in plain sight.

Crouched in the mud and under burnt wagons was not his preferred place to be. But in order to avoid the hail of daggers, or spears, or whatever the hell they were, he took the necessary steps. Unfortunately there was nothing he could do for the caravan he was supposed to be scouting for. That was a job left to the mercenaries and other hired guards. All he could do was leave them to their fate, and hope the death toll was minimal. Though he doubted this would be the case.

From his not quite a vantage point however, the scout caught sight of a man emerging from the 'wreckage'. Though he did not know of the guild leader or the guild itself, the man's stance said it all. He was behind this. Well, there was only one thing he could do. Dishonorable as it was. The scout crawled out from under the wreck, a slender knife being brought into his hand. He then flicked it in the blindfolded man's direction. (Kendrick assumed he was a bandit or some such.)

Reiku could hear the chaos and destruction on the other side. His plan had worked perfectly well to tak that which he wished for. It was an ingenious plan but it was taxing on him. Why? Because it was his blood that was necessary to be used so that he can fire up those deadly projectiles. Fragarach, from the legend with the same name that meant 'the sword that strikes first'.

Then, instinct had kicked it as he was about to go over the hill. He saw from the periphery of his view, a projectile aimed for him. He could not discern if it was a bolt or an arrow but he was sure that it was something he should avoid. Lightning quick reflexes allowed him to draw a long blade and parry the incoming...knife. It was a small blade aimed at him. Immediately, he scooped some remaining blood on the ground. It formed a ball, similar to that which rained on the caravan a while ago, and fired a lightning harpoon towards the area he thought the knife came from. He was off by a meter but it clearly showed how nimble he was to counter attack.

One may have qualms against throwing blades at the blind, but the scout on the other hand had seen the destruction this one had wrought. As his blade was sent soaring, Kendrick ducked behind another torn wagon. Just in case his aim did not ring true. What he had not expected however was that the man had evaded it without so much as an effort. The small blade was simply knocked away by a sword. Before the scout could register the motion, the bandit had removed his own blood from the earth and manipulated it into a spear.

Instinct kicked in, causing him to duck out of the way of the projectile despite its loose proximity to him. The thing embedded into the caravan tent just past his head. Ducking to a roll the scout found shelter behind a large wagon real. He drew his sword, launching himself at the blindfolded man with the balanced blade aiming to crash down upon the man's skull.

Finally, the man emerged. Blade in hand and approaching him fast. He was impressed. This person was able to survive the onslaught that he had brought down on the caravan. He smirked as he saw the blade crashing down on him. But it was expected. Perhaps it was time to teach this person a bit of a lesson in professional thievery and assassination.

He drew out a dagger and used it to slide off his blade, redirecting it so it would crash on the ground instead and not on his skull. As quick as he drew it, as quick as he turned and aimed a strong roundhouse kick to the man's face. That would teach him a few things. He had messed with the wrong thief.

Ah, the man was fast. Well, such things were to be expected. Kendrick would have preferred simply slinking away, unnoticed. But he had no escape route available to him and did need to at least try and return to the caravan. It would suck if some of his bosses survived and he gained a bad reputation for running away on them. At least now he could claim the truth, he'd gotten stuck fighting the bandit who'd set off the attack!

Turning with the altered weight of his blade, he leaned back to pull it from the earth. Instead of preparing for another strike however he found himself hitting the ground with a heavy thud. A hand rose to rub at his now sore temple from being booted in the head. With a curse he rolled back to his feet, bringing his blade to the attack once more. He's show this bandit a thing or two!

This man was persistent, he'd have to hand it to him. Perhaps it was survival that was prompting him to get up and get up. A while ago, Reiku would have killed him on the spot but now he was seeing something promising on him. Perhaps he can goad him to join the guild. Or give him a choice. Servitude or Death.

He took off his cloak and threw it at the man in an attempt to distract and blind him. It was then that he'd move to hit the man on the abdomen, right in the solar plexus with the hilt of his blade to knock the wind out of him. He'd then attempt to kick down the man and step on his chest to pin him down on the cold hard ground. He'd be showing the chain of command in here. Or maybe a chain he can bash him with to show him who's in command.

The guy just had to prove difficult. Well, he wasn't going to back down either. When it came right down to it this was probably a life or death battle. And he was not ready to die yet! Well not ever. But he was still only human (or half anyway) and had no delusions of immortality. Shifting his blade to one hand, his opposite rose to grab the thrown cloak and toss it aside. That was a trick he wasn't falling for so easily! His blade was brought around, lifted to catch a foot aimed for his chest. The flat of his blade would be used for this.

Kendrick stepped back to further avoid the blow. Using his advantage of range with his sword against the dagger. After all he didn't want to get stabbed. He was not however quite prepared to turn tail and run yet. The scout was still fully confident that he could take on this bandit despite some difficulty in getting a strike in as well. As his blade recovered from the reverberation of being kicked, he brought it once more in a quick diagonal slash for the bandit's midsection.

He was impressed. This person was able to evade such a simple but effective move. His foot hit the flat of his blade and the man managed to avoid his attack. The man went on an attack again and Reiku thought of doing something to perhaps disturb the man. He moved his dagger to parry the blade but in a totally different way. He moved it so it would stab his abdomen. Reiku gasped in pain but he then grinned as he walked towards the man, the blade skewering him through and through. "Tell me...do you fear...death?"

"Eh?" Much to his surprise the bandit had driven his blade into his own gut! Kendrick stepped back, relinquishing his own blade with it still piercing the man through and through. What kind of insanity was this? If he had known he was to be fighting some suicidal bandit ... he would have simply taken his business elsewhere. The guy was crazy, but when the scout expected the bandit to drop did ... he didn't! "What the hell?"

He stepped back again, a hand making for the dagger at his arm, but abruptly realizing he'd already thrown it. Now, Kendrick had fought several wild things in his time, from dragon whelps to werecritters. But zombies were another thing entirely. Or whatever was going on. Some foul magic was afoot that was for sure!

The strangeness of it caused him to not recognize the question at first. But as he took another step back and the bandit followed suit, Kendrick stared at him. "No ... but you're freaking me the hell out, man."
