Goddess of Magic

She'd been slumbering for a long time. And that wasn't her fault. Certain magical workings took a lot out of her, and Selena's experiments as of late had turned to forces that she didn't completely understand -- namely nature and the forces of the wind and water. Yes, the earth had it's own magic, but that was not her domain. She could do very little, except for study said magic and attempt to understand it. When she opened her eyes, she wasn't surprised to find herself tucked neatly into a bed, with a couple monks fluttering around nervously. Her followers were given to worry when she slept for longer than a few days. "How long?" She croaked, weakly. "Two weeks, though you might have slept longer." "Good. And the temple?" "Taken care of ... however, you said for me to remind you when you awo-" "I will take care of it." Despite any sort of attempt by the man to keep her in bed, Selena swung her legs over the frame and lifted herself to her feet, finding herself clothed in only a nightgown. She dismissed her servants, preferring silence for the next few hours as she dressed and tested the limits of her power, finding that she was back to full strength at long last. "I have work to do. I've been neglecting my followers and those who depend on me," she thought, as she eyed herself in the mirror. She was beautiful, yes, as she always had been; but the long sleep had taken a toll on her --- her eyes were rimmed by dark black circles, and she'd lost a bit of weight. Any longer, and she might have alarmed herself. "I need to call Erramyr. He can run this errand for me," gently brushing her flaxen hair, she smiled wistfully at her reflection, before standing and leaving the room. There was work to be done and she was not one to shirk her duties. Her feet, shod in silk slippers, padded gently on the marble floors, and she nodded to those she past in the halls, ignoring their bows and otherwise. She'd long since told them that bowing was a waste of their energy, but it wasn't like anyone listened to her. Selena smoothed her white, virginal dress, lost in thought and ignoring the whispers of the acolytes. It seemed that some of them had lost faith in the fact that she was going to wake up. They had learned, or they would in the future, that it did not do to doubt her. Finally, she reached the room that she sought. She settled herself on her throne, before closing her eyes. The thrumm of her temple sang around her, enriched to the foundations with her magic. "I need Erramyr. Through the oath that he bound himself to me, bring him here now." She whispered, her voice laced with power. Yes, that ought to do the trick. Now all there was to do was wait. |

It had been a while since the goddess had called out for him. He was starting to wonder and worry. He had been given the task to find followers but, as of current, those people he found promising had disappeared. He had been wandering, looking for people and what he can judge as anomalies in the realms of magic. At times, he wondered, worried about the goddess. Why hasn't he heard a word yet? He was a new follower to her and he did not know much about her compared to other followers that had served her longer that he had. He was starting to get a bit more curious and as if on perfect timing, he found himself being summoned. It was in mere seconds before he found himself in her temple. He pressed on and walked towards her throne. There seemed to many gathered and it was a bit new to him. He had never seen so many gathered in her temple. A ritual of some sort? He was a bit distracted in his hypotheses. Soon, however, his train of thought was halted when he had faced Selena. She seemed...not quite herself. Her beauty was just like always but he can notice some slight changes. To him, it seemed that she had been stressed with something. Like a person overworked through sleepless nights. He did not realize the irony of what his thoughts. He took a couple of steps forward before he bowed his head as a sign of respect. "You had called, Mistress?" He raised his head and then inquired. He doubt it was another one of her summon-Myr-for-the-heck-of-it moments. The situation seemed to clash with that kind of moment. He coughed slightly and gazed at her once more, curious as to why the glow that she had (of course, he wouldn't tell her that she had some sort of glow in his eyes) was a bit on the darker side. "You're looking...err...lovely today." He commented slightly, knowing well that some extremist may find his words as insulting. But he was only trying to cheer her up. He felt the need to. |

Selena would have found the amount of people waiting for orders intimidating, but instead she just sat silently in her chair. Her mortal body felt drained, her bones heavy and brittle at the same time. What she had to tell Erramyr didn't need to be hidden from the entire temple, however she could have addressed them while he was being called away from whatever he was doing. She chose not to. There were more important fish to fry at the moment. Besides, they were only wasting their time. She hadn't asked them to assemble as such, had she? The particles gathered and she could feel her spell lose hold as Erramyr appeared before them. A couple of the new recruits gasped and she made a mental note to tell someone to speak to them about the sights they would see in the temple. She couldn't have acolytes pissing themselves every time she used magic, major working or otherwise. Selena waited for him to approach the throne, before dismissing those hovering at her elbow. She'd been asleep, not dead. "I'm glad you're obviously doing well," she said, finally. She had waved away his earlier compliment, though it brought a smile to her face and caused her to preen for a couple moments. Once, vanity had been her sin. "Lying, however, does not become you. I look quite off, for me. Still, I thank you." Folding her hands in her lap, she waited for those who were still speaking to fall silent, before giving them an indulgent smile. "I did call. I've spent many days in a trance, and the World Spirit has seen fit to speak to me. There is a task I must ask of you; but first --" Selena crossed her legs and leaned forward, leaning her elbow on her knee, and her chin on her hand. "You must fill me in. I regret, I've been ... absent for these last few weeks. What goes on in the rest of Avalon? Is there anything I should know, dear?" Selena was actually curious. She did not leave the Temple often, there were always things that needed her attention and she wasn't one to neglect those that needed her. Avalon could be a smoking crater in the ground, for all that she was aware of. Most of those who came to serve her had some sort of past that they didn't wish to speak of, so she didn't (and couldn't) ask them what was going on. He was the only link in the chain who could help her in this way, and in other ways. Erramyr could come and go as he pleased. |

He saw that he had smiled from his compliment. Well, that seemed better fitting for her. At least something to brighten up her look. He couldn't help but laugh when she had said that lying didn't suit him. Well, he tried. And he wasn't at all surprised that she called it off as a lie. He was just trying to make the situation less gloomy than it already seems to be. He just stood there in front of her, waiting for whatever it was that is needed to discuss. He heard her say something about a trance. Meditation perhaps? He had heard similar things as well. Astral walks, Nether travels, even something called Sanity's Eclipse. If she had been in a trance for a couple of days then that would explain why she looked a bit off. She asked him what the news was of Avalon and what are the current events. Well, there was not much to tell her regarding his duties. There wasn't even much to tell even if he told her that someone from his past had met him and he spent sometime with that person. "The chaos regarding elemental magic is over. There were guardians that had arise any further disasters were avoided. There were, however, some cases of some groups of people taking advantage of the magical mayhem. Some elementalists were attacked during the time that they were most weak. After that, however, Avalon still in above sea level and hopefully will stay that way for some time soon. There is a strange force in the western lands that are a bit hard to ignore and hard to identify. Regarding the activities of other gods," Myr paused a bit and coughed. He wasn;t sure if it was appropriate. It was not like he spied on them. He was just able to keep up with the current activities of the deities based on the normal hubbub amongst their followers. "I do not see much activity with the other gods. They are there and they are walking around and perhaps exploring. But for matter of that may result to a threat, I had saw none." He concluded his report with that. He tried to be clear but brief and concise with her update regarding Avalon. |

She had to smile at him; he'd been her first follower, and as such held a place in her heart. Besides, he was ultimately kind. She didn't see in him any of the scheming and power-mongering she saw in some of her other followers. Selena, though she trusted no one but Angelo, didn't see any reason to distrust him; which was rare. She did not get to her position by being naive and innocent. Her experiences had made her world-weary and wary of anyone who was overly generous and sweetnatured. "I don't think he could fake it if he wanted to. Something about him is just .. too truthful," she thought as she surveyed him. "The twisting and turning ways of faith, belief, and serving the gods; they aren't for him. He will always feel there is too much deception involved. As much as I trust him, he is where he is supposed to be." Selena could feel a headache growing. Besides, if she did elevate him now; there would be many who would resent her and him for favoritism. No, it was much better to leave Erramyr Lizergaze where he could serve her best. However, the fact that the seat of her High Priest/ess had been empty for the entirety of her reign was something not far from her mind. She had to find someone suitable for the job, otherwise just eliminate the position altogether. Nonetheless, that was a rumination best saved for another time. As he gave his report, she smiled again, faintly. He was so formal with her. Obviously he respected her quite a bit, but she'd hoped that perhaps he would speak more of his personal life. She lived vicariously through her followers now. "Good. I'm glad that perhaps the world, and the elemental forces, will be a bit more stable now," she said, not mentioning that was what she'd been monitoring and studying in her trance. "As for the other gods, thank you for the information. Surely they would not see it fit to march on one of their own? Not so soon, at last. Kioku made them fear again. A war between us would tear the world apart." She hesitated. A force in the Western Lands? Interesting. She hadn't heard tales of that from anyone else she'd sent into that area. Frowning, she resolved to question him later. "I suppose you're wondering what you're doing here. I have an alternate mission for you. There is a sorcerer, a man who calls himself 'Bane'. I need you to find him, and either bring him to me or kill him," there was a collective gasp around the room. Selena was known for her mercy. "He's planning to murder his entire village to summon a demon. I won't allow him to slaughter innocent people, however I am unable to go myself. Will you accept this task?" |

"Kioku. I've heard that she has had a follower of her own which is the same being as me. I have not encountered that being and I'm not too keen to do so," Myr replied to her regarding the Goddess of War. That meeting may cause a bit of a trouble. As far as he knew, servants tend to be hostile towards the servant of another. There was also the fact that he was not able to determine the strength of this servant. While he knew that Selena can always summon him again, he found it not to his liking to have her do such a taxing ritual. She already looked a bit worn down as of current. Well, that would be for another time as he was given another mission. He would not mind. After all, it is what he had existed for, to serve Selena. That was his role. He can always defy her, but he found no such benefit from it. There was also the fact that she held his existence in the palm of his hand. It would be better to serve with much gusto, he'd be more effective of a follower. "Let me guess, avoid as much casualties as possible?" Myr asked and smirked a little. If he would kill this person with one shot, it would be very easy from a long distance but it would cause great collateral damage. Myr was not in his position if he wasn't able to hold his own well. And being a being of magic had its advantages when servant the very Goddess of Magic. His answer also meant that he accepted that mission. He just wanted to know a couple more details that he needed to know else he err on his missions. |

With that, her frown deepened. That could be cause for trouble later on. Perhaps it was time to give dear Kioku a visit and a talking to. Selena couldn't abide some grunt questioning and harassing her follower, after all. "Besides, I haven't seen her once. We should get acquainted. I'm not going to be her best friend, but we should at least know of each other," she thought. "The idea in Avalon is that we are a united Pantheon. I should at least attempt to make that somewhat true." "I want you to return to the temple if this follower bothers you. I don't care if you're unharmed, or if they didn't mean anything; I want you to come and report to me at once. I want to know who this person is and what Kioku plans to do," she said sharply. There was no messing around where the Goddess of War was concerned. Chances were, whoever her follower was had similar orders. "This worries me. Gods and goddesses have always clashed over matters, it is inevitable, given the differences in our nature. However, we should never spy on each other." Then again, now she could always say that Kioku started it. However, that was, yet again, a matter for another time. Another worry to put on her shoulders, but she'd been made of strong stuff. Selena could handle it, or she hoped she could. Otherwise, the World Spirit had chosen wrong. She smiled faintly at his bravado. "Proceed with caution, and as little loss of innocent life as you can. I think you will find that this man will not be defeated as easily as you think. He is strong, easily a match to you. Once you kill him, bring me the ring from his finger. It contains most of his power. I will destroy it from there, and give you a special bag to put it in so that you are not tempted," she said, gently. "Don't be cocky. He won't hesitate to kill you." Tapping one finger to her lips, she hesitated. "Be careful. I would hate to lose you. Do you have anything else to address me about?" Selena looked pointedly at the murmuring crowd, as though just remembering that they were there. At her glare, they scattered, each going about their business as though they hadn't been staring at her and Erramyr for the better part of fifteen minutes. "Anything at all? Anything personal?" |

Words of the wise, hers were. He can only nod as she had told him of her orders, making sure not to forget anything that may be a tilting point of the mission. Already he was trying to think of several ways to make the kill quick and without causing much collateral damage. He already did not doubt that this man may be using meat shields of the villagers. 'Hey, they were going to be killed anyway, just making them have another option on how to die.' is what it would seem to Myr. And honestly, it was a bad taste in his mouth. He managed to smiled slightly when she had wished him to be careful. A goddess should be taking care of her followers after all. But he just couldn't help but smile at that little show of concern. When she had asked about personal matters, he accidentally swallowed some of his saliva, making him cough. That gesture alone was already enough to show the goddess that there was indeed some personal things that he had been doing these past days. He was...embarrassed maybe? Whatever he felt, he was not to keen to share it in front of all the people in the sanctum. Perhaps if they were alone, he would be able to confide to her things that were going on in his second life as a ghostliner. He managed a nervous and playful grin as he coughed a bit before he can respond to her. "Well, there are certain things that I could and will inform you off. But I don't think that now is the right time and place. Perhaps when there is a time that only you would be able to hear and know of it. It is personal for a reason, is it not?" |

Erramyr would do well. And he knew better than to attempt to go about his plan the way he'd been considering before. She valued the lives of everyone in Avalon, despite the many that did not agree with her very existence. Besides, the fact that a man like this was abusing the people he'd grown up with and lived his life with was disgusting and probably causing the villagers a lot of pain. Selena didn't want to add to that pain. Her duty was to help them. She giggled at his sudden cough. Well, apparently that answered that. She would have to get together with him at some point; perhaps have tea and talk. Angelo had instructed her in how to make a very delectable blend, one that warmed her on the colder nights in her marble temple, and she thought Erramyr might like some. "Perhaps it's girl troubles, perhaps it's not," she thought to herself, amused. "But he is a man. There is always a girl, no matter how celibate they claim to be. However, I won't embarrass him here." Nodding, she tipped her head to the side. "I see. We shall speak about that later, then, perhaps after you get back. Hopefully you aren't too troubled. I'm rubbish at giving advice, really, but I'm a good listener. Let's just say I've had practice." Serenely, she shifted about and folded her hands in her lap, before standing. "This shouldn't be a hard mission for you, and I couldn't bear taking you away from any loved ones for extended periods of time. After you're finished, go home. Rest. Then come and report to me." Standing before him, dwarfed by his size, she put her hands on his shoulders. "However, if you do need help, feel free to call me at any time. Don't be arrogant. I'm here to help you, and I won't have you getting killed because you were too proud." While her words were still kind, her eyes were sharp. She meant business. After a moment of meeting his gaze, she broke into a smile. "I'm sure I'll find ways to keep occupied while you're gone, just as you'll have work to do. For now, it's time for you to go. If you linger here too long, I'll keep speaking and you'll never get a chance to leave." Turning her back to him so that he wouldn't see the worry on her face and in her eyes, she waited for his goodbye. ooc; I'm done on this end. :] |

"Yes, maybe some tea would do nicely. I'll make sure to look up something for you," Myr smiled and and placed his right hand on his waist. He let his other hand dangle down to his side as he looked at her with only his left eye open. It meant nothing else but a friendly gesture. A gesture that seemed only he was able to make. It seemed as if there were some envious eyes that gazed upon him. Ah, but he couldn't care less. He half did it on purpose after all. He smiled and nodded to the goddess before he would turn around and leave. He did not say another word for there seemed like there was nothing else to be told. And as sudden as he came, as sudden as he went. In a blink of an eye, he was gone from that place and in a place where he can gather some help for this mission. [not much muse, just ended the rp] |
