Andumi hiked purposefully through the stark mountain passes of the Isle of Mist. He had heard whispered tales of the old tribe of mighty warriors, the Vorann, and was fully intent on rallying them to his cause. The promise of new lands, and mighty weapons from his homeworld, should be enough to pique their curiosity. Of course, it was debatable whether or not Andumi ever intended on fulfilling those intended promises. Certainly he would never even think twice about giving them weapons from his own dimension; the culture here was too primitive, their technological level eons away from even beginning to progress into something approaching proper civilization. As he was hiking, silently lost in contemplative thought, he heard a small noise. Normally, he would have ignored it as was his custom, for he usually ignored what didn't interest him, but as he was unusually deep in the Iraeon range, and the Vorann's reputation as excellent fighters still remained, Andumi decided to put himself on a more attentive state of awareness. He ceased his march to set his pack down along the side of the barely discernible path, making sure to anchor the straps down with rocks to alert him of potential theft in case he was outmaneuvered. "Hello? Is there someone there? I am a swordsman who seeks the remnants of the Vorann tribe. I wish to parlay with you and bring a proposition. Please, would you care to show yourselves?" Andumi called out, looking in all directions to see where the thing that had made the noise would appear from. If he was lucky, he had just found the Vorann, and they would be willing to listen. If not, then he would look much like a fool. Ah, well. If it's not the Vorann that's been watching me, then I suppose I may have to keep looking. On the other hand, if it's a fellow traveler, they may know something that I don't if they're this far out into the mountains... Andumi though to himself as he continued to watch and wait for a response to his cry. Either way, he hoped this would be a profitable mission, both in terms of preparations for conquest, and in gaining additional intelligence contacts among the fighting population of the land of Avalon. |

Xue Jian stood atop a narrow crag that jutted out over the nearby mountain pass below, taking in the sights much like a perched bird. The description was apt, considering that there was no visible way for him to have climbed up there in the first place. The view was, quite frankly, spectacular, and it combined well with the peace and quiet of the area to make it a nice place to get away and get some much needed time to himself. Or so he thought. It was just a random shift of his weight. A tiny movement of his foot that sent a rock skittering down into the pass. He wasn't concerned about it at first, as he didn't think anyone else was out there to notice. Turns out he was wrong on that score, as a voice called out from below in response to the noise. "Hello? Is there someone there? I am a swordsman who seeks the remnants of the Vorann tribe. I wish to parlay with you and bring a proposition. Please, would you care to show yourselves?" "Up here, swordsman!" Xue Jian answered, looking down at the blue-haired man in robes that had made himself known. "I am not hidden, nor am I of the Vorann. My name is Xue Jian, also a swordsman of sorts. Who might you be, stranger?" |

Andumi turned to face the source of the voice that addressed him, waving at him to come down from his vantage point. Not of the Vorann.....well, that's disappointing. But still, for him to be this deep in the Iraeon, he can't be just sightseeing. Perhaps he can be of use to me..., Andumi thought. As he waved the man, this, Xue Jian (an odd name, and one obviously not of this culture. Perhaps he, too, was like Andumi, a traveler from a land immensely far away?) down to his location, he shaded his eyes against the glare of the sun (though with his eyes he didn't really need to) to get a better view of the man who currently had the high ground. The man was most definitely human, but he hadn't seen that skin tone before among the humans of this land, another sign that they had their alien backgrounds in common. Searching his ancient memories for where he had seen that same skin tone before, he recognized it as the predominant appearance of an ancient culture from the eastern hemispheres of his own world. Perhaps this man's culture had some basic similarities when it came to customs? If so, then there would at least be no harm in attempting to emulate them. "Very interesting, indeed..." Andumi remarked quietly, then replied to the man's greeting in a similar fashion, "You may call me Corvan, Jian-san. I assume that is your last name, then? As you must have gathered, I am searching for the Vorann tribe. Perhaps, if you are searching for something similar, we may join forces? It would be most advantageous to us both if things take a turn for the hostile, to be sure." He gave a slight bow, no deeper than was required, as Jian approached. Turning his back to him (while fondling the hilt of his cursed assassin's blade, of course), he gathered up his pack and waited patiently for a response. Showing too many hostile intentions here may ruin his chances with any prospective Vorann that were reconnoitering... |

Jian-san? Was that an honorific of some kind? To date, he'd yet to hear anyone else use such terms in all the lands of Avalon, although that didn't mean that nobody did. The suffix struck him as vaguely familiar somehow, but he couldn't quite place where he'd heard it before. In any case, he wanted to be polite, so Xue Jian decided he would follow the other man's example. "Well met, Corvan-san. You may call me Jian if you wish. Many others do," he said, forming a spirit sword at his feet and stepping on it. As he floated down from the crag toward where Corvan stood, Xue Jian explained, "I am not searching for anyone or anything out here though. I just came to see the sights and admire the view." Landing behind Corvan, who had turned his back momentarily to gather his pack, Xue Jian stepped off the spirit sword and let it vanish. He knew little of the Vorann himself, and the other man's idea of finding the lost tribe seemed like a good way to learn more about them. "I'd be happy to help you look for them as long as you mean them no harm." |

Andumi silently berated himself for his foolishness. Of course there wouldn't have been any similarities between his world and this one. It was too much to hope for, he supposed. An eyebrow raised as he saw the phantasmal blade appear and disappear at the man's command, and he immediately lusted for his ability. Of course, he wouldn't kill him for it, but he might be tempted to torture him for the secrets to his skills when his usefulness was ended... "Ah, yes. Of course. Forgive my awkwardness, Jian. I am rather unversed in social graces; you must forgive me if I tend to sound like a fool. And I would appreciate a spellsword as skilled as you accompanying me. Though what I have heard of the Vorann makes me inclined to believe they could do me more harm than the other way around, I must assure that I am entirely peaceful for the purposes of this particular venture." Andumi switched his persona over to his 'wandering hermit' phrasebook, loosening up his otherwise taciturn face to show the appropriate emotions necessary to engender the most amount of trust and the least amount of hostility in humans, as he had been taught. Motioning farther into the passes, he resumed the brisk pace at which he had been traveling, pausing briefly only to call back to his apparently new traveling companion, "I hope you can keep up! It will most likely be a while before we can reach deep enough into the Iraeon to find the Vorann!" |

Indeed, Corvan's words held a ring of truth to them when it came to the Vorann. All Xue Jian knew of them were the stories he'd heard. They were supposedly a society of warriors that had been extremely xenophobic, attacking anyone who ventured into their lands, until the demi-god Beralorn came and quite nearly wiped them out single handedly. Now they remained hidden deep within the Iraeon mountain range, and it was said only the extremely brave or utterly foolish sought them out. Such warnings rarely deterred Xue Jian from venturing to a place though. If he'd stopped for every warning of danger he'd heard, he would never have even left home. Ah, the things I do for the sake of knowledge, Xue Jian thought wryly as Corvan began moving further into the pass. Ahead of him, the other man paused and called back. "I hope you can keep up! It will most likely be a while before we can reach deep enough into the Iraeon to find the Vorann!" Xue Jian inwardly grinned at this. He was well used to traveling, both on foot and more recently by air. He'd have no such trouble keeping up, but it was not his way to make an unnecessary show of his capabilities. If he could have gotten down off that crag earlier without flying, he would have, but unfortunately, there had been no other choice. He set off after his new companion and caught up in short order, falling in behind the man by a few paces. "So do you have a more specific idea of where to find the Vorann, Corvan?" |

Andumi, still in his 'friendly' mode, slowed his pace down to match Jian's so they were trekking along side by side. "Honestly, Jian, I have no idea," Andumi laughed lightly as they both began dodging rocks strewn along the fairly nonexistent path, "I was hoping they'd actually find me, really. You see, my thinking was that after their disappearance, the Vorann must have retreated farther into the mountains, and instead of holding on to a large area of relatively useless mountains, they would spread their small numbers to only guard key points around their villages and places of critical importance. I hope to keep wandering until I either find one of these key points, like a spring or a mine, or I find the village itself." Andumi informed his new traveling companion aimlessly, although he actually was telling the truth for once. It was rather annoying how he hadn't been able to find any accurate, or even recent, maps of the Iraeon; indeed, it appeared as though they hadn't even been fully charted. Hence the fact that all he could do was to memorize the most recent map he could find and then work on completing the mapping himself. Not only would this be extremely useful for keeping his bearings for a return journey, but it would also be invaluable as a trade commodity to future explorers and adventurers. After all, if he happened to find a rich vein of a particularly uncommon ore, it was his prerogative to map and sell the location of this resource to interested parties. |

Xue Jian considered what Corvan told him and decided on a course of action. Searching the mountains on foot would take months, and even then there was no guarantee they'd find anything. If they really wanted to find the Vorann in a reasonable amount of time, they were going to have find a faster way, and Xue Jian thought he had just the thing. "Given what I've heard about the Vorann, I think it would be better if we found them rather than the other way around. If we let them find us, it would most likely end up being an ambush, and that's no way to start a parley, don't you think?" Xue Jian chuckled lightly at this before continuing. "Also, I can provide a way to cover a lot of ground quickly ... if you're not afraid of heights, that is." |

Andumi laughed in a gruff, comradely fashion. His new companion had him to rights. "You've got me there, Jian. However, given my current resources, it was the best plan I could think of. As no one really knows how large this range is, there isn't even an effective way to search in a grid pattern. I'm afraid I must agree with you on that point. If you've got a better idea, then by all means, let us try it." Andumi defended himself casually, "And heights? Have you seen how tall I am? No, I'm not afraid of heights at all. Used to much higher and much more dangerous things than what people usually travel by around here. Now that I think about it, though, there's really going to be no good way to just go up and meet them. After all, they've survived this long by hiding and killing all those that find them. They're going to be inclined to strike first, ask questions later, or never. So immediate intimidation or pacification will most likely be the key to first contact with them. Can I assume that you may have something up your sleeve to that effect?" Andumi considered Jian an extremely useful and capable man, by now, and was beginning to think that perhaps he would serve as a better long-term ally than anything else...provided Andumi never really let him catch on to his plans of Avalonian conquest and domination... |

Once Corvan finished speaking, Xue Jian nodded and called forth a spirit sword. It emerged from the scabbard on his back and floated around him to hover above the ground near his feet. There he once again stood upon it, as he had back when he'd come down from the lofty crag earlier, and gestured for Corvan to join him. The man was indeed very tall, almost as tall as Codrus, but the view from his personal height would pale in comparison to where they were going. "I don't know about intimidating or pacifying the Vorann by ourselves. The stories say they were pushed back by the demi-god Beralorn, so if they still remember him, I doubt they'll be much impressed by the two of us ... unless you're a demi-god in disguise," Xue Jian chuckled lightly before continuing. "In any case, on this sword we can at least search for their territory a great deal faster than walking. We can work out how to approach them while we fly." |

Few had the courage to venture into such lands. The Vorann had done much to detour travelers and the like from sticking their noses where it didn't belong. That was only enough to keep back the cowards and the meek. On such wanderer wouldn't be so easy to frighten...if he even felt fear. The tribe and the warrior weren't much different...barbaric in nature and physically powerful. However, they feared the likes of Beralon, one with enough might to rival the gods...perhaps the traveler had a tad more in common with the Isle of Mist than he thought. As such, he pushed forward into the mountain range, his curriosity his driving force once more. Codrus was resting against a rock, relaxed despite the danger evident around him. At any moment, the Vorann could strike...he only hoped they tried. He was looking for a challenge...some fun. The barbarian yawned and took another swig from his waterskin. Next to him rested his weapon, a large, sword-shaped hunk of metal. Hardly seemed useful or capable of being wielded in any sort of fashion. Few were like the barbarian however. He leaned his head back, a calming breeze washing over him. Another yawn escaped his lips...he almost felt like dozing off right then and there. Until voices pulled him from his slumbering state. With a growl he stood up, stretching his large body before grabbing Eversor and hefting it up on his shoulder. "Now...who could that be," he inquired, looking about...the noises were coming from above...the Vorann...or more travelers? Codrus grunted, unsure...he was going to find out however as he started up the slope once more. Though as he walked, their voices didn't grow closer...they were walking, keeping the distance between them. "Oi," he mumbled, annoyed as he only wished to quell his naturl curiosity of things. The warrior was only in the mountains because of it...that odd personailty trait was the reason for a great deal in his life...hell, he was worse than a child, always wandering about, getting into trouble. Codrus didn't have any other goals in life, as such, anything of interest, big or small, attracted him like a moth t a flame. Most of his endevours, however, were violent in nature, as this quest for the Vorann showed. One would wonder how many fights a person could possibly get into in their lifetime...few were like him however. Codrus was starting to get fed up with stalking the voices' owners and let out a gruff yell, "Slow down, idiots!" That was probably not the most intelligent thing...a cowardly bunch would run, afraid of facing the violent tribe. He wasn't much better, though, as large and imposing as he was with the massive weapon resting upon his shoulder...many would get the wrong impression. He continued up the slope, finally laying his eyes on the two for the first time. From where he stood, he couldn't see the clearly, but they didn't look like Vorann...too puny. |

Andumi was about to get on to Jian's flying spirit sword, though he doubted it's ability to hold both him and Jian safely or comfortably, when he heard a voice from behind them. Turning, he saw an immense warrior, as big as Andumi or bigger, and carrying a sword-shaped weapon resting upon his shoulder. "Hrm. Does this look like a Vorann attack to you, Jian?" Andumi asked, already knowing the answer as he drew his cursed assassin's blade and diamond dagger in each hand, prepared for a possible confrontation. Though this...man wasn't probably of the Vorann, he was certainly an imposing character by anyone's standards, and Andumi intended on seeing what the fuss was all about. He began to run towards the charging man, slowly, of course, not exceeding any limits known to the humans or similarly built races as far as his running speed went. He wanted to look like someone who had met another armed person on the road, and were performing the customary 'friend or foe' identification commonly resorted to in the uncivilized wilds. "Hail, warrior! It's not polite to insult someone when you've just met them, you know." he said as he came within earshot of the other man. "I am Corvan, and my companion over there is Xue Jian. We are explorers, of a sort. We do not mean to attack you, but I will fight you in self-defense, if you hold hostile intentions against us." Andumi chose to introduce themselves as civilly as possible. Now that he could see what kind of being this man was, he could tell that he would have a hard time fighting against someone who radiated power in such a way. It was truly impressive, and Andumi thought of the kingdoms he could overthrow with this man's help. Of course, men like this one and Jian weren't gullible; it would take a long time of manipulation and wheedling before they could be convinced of the advantages of helping Andumi create a New Avalonian Order. As a show of good faith, he replaced one of his weapons, his cursed assassin's blade, into his robe, and lowered his guard, holding the diamond dagger loosely by his side. |

Xue Jian also turned at the sound of a newcomer's voice, a grin appearing on his face as he recognized it, but before Xue Jian could answer Corvan's question about the Vorann, the man had already begun moving toward the voice's owner. Xue Jian flew on after him, matching his pace but not bothering to draw steel. The man they were about to meet was no enemy ... at least not to Xue Jian. As they came to a halt in full view of the barbarian approaching them, Xue Jian released his spirit sword and stepped down onto the ground, while Corvan got introductions out of the way. When the man was finished speaking Xue Jian thought he should clear the air before things had a chance to get ugly. Mentioning fights around Codrus Hardheart was a good way to get into one with the barbarian, and Xue Jian thought it would be cruel to allow his new companion to learn this the hard way. "Be at peace, Corvan. He is a friend," Xue Jian said, stepping forward so that he could be seen clearly. "Although I wasn't expecting to meet him here today." Calling down the slope, Xue Jian waved to his old friend and mentor. "Greetings Master Hardheart! It's good to see you again! What brings you to Iraeon?" |

Codrus grinned at he saw Xue Jian. Good, a friendly face on this pointless expedition. Though, before he could utter a word, his companion stepped forward in an almost challenging manner. The barbarian’s lips pursed together slightly, almost frowning, but he ignored the tempting nature of a brawl. He chose to ignore this ‘Corvan’ for a time as he turned his attention to his old friend. The half-demon hefted Eversor into the air and suddenly rammed it down into the earth between himself and Corvan as he walked by. Codrus turned to look at the man, a humored glint in his eyes before looking towards Jian with a smirk. The warrior held out a hand, “Oi, good to see ya, wee one!” It had been some time since the two had last traveled together. Jian had been busy, he knew he would be. The man was curious about the world and who could blame him…it was a big place out there. “Ah got bored,” he replied to Jian’s questioning. It was truth enough, he had been a tad bored in the Northern Lands so decided to look into the legends of the Vorann. If anyone was a capable challenger of the village’s might, he was certainly up to it. Codrus was always looking for a good fight anyway. He then turned his attention to Jian’s traveling companion, eyeing him curiously. “Who’s this bum,” he asked with a chuckle, walking towards the tall man. Few could match his height, but even so, he didn’t seem very imposing. Codrus stood in front of Corvan, trying to get a read on the fellow. The barbarian lifted his right hand…and took a hold of his weapon’s handle, the zweihander lifted from the dirt as the half-demon turned away, hefting the hunk of metal up onto his shoulder. “Well, ya’ll are lookin’ for tha same thing, ain’t cha?” |

Andumi shrugged and put away his dagger as Jian and Codrus appeared to know each other. If they were friends, that was all the better for Andumi; he wouldn't have to bother dealing with both of them at the same time as long as he kept one of them peaceable. "Yes, Master Hardheart, I suppose we are," Andumi replied affably enough to the warrior, fuming internally against the fact that he had referred to him as a 'bum'. The man's blade was a monster, and Andumi's over-large eyes tracked it with ease, seeing the probable mass of the weapon, in addition to the weight of the armor this warrior carried. The result came up with a surprisingly high risk of death, should he try to fight this man. He turned and stepped a few paces away from the two of them, staring at a particularly large boulder, two to three times his size, and picked it up with a single hand, lifting it over his head with apparent ease. Turning, he used his other hand to take careful aim, then launched the boulder into the air. As soon as it had reached a sufficient height, the hand he had outstretched suddenly gathered an orb of lightning energy into his palm. Launching one orb after another, he blasted away at the boulder, then at the larger pieces of its remains, creating quite a display of sound and light that must have been audible and visible for miles. Realigning his neck casually, he turned back around to Jian and Codrus. "You know, I don't realize why I hadn't thought of doing that sooner. If the Vorann are anywhere near here, they most certainly would have seen that little display of mine. We'd best be moving to where the remains of that boulder landed. It's only a few miles away; we shouldn't get there without too much trouble. If we're lucky, the Vorann would have seen that and come to investigate. And we can be there to wait for them." |
