Weapon question

I'm planning to buy my other character a katar, but realized that it would be a little unwieldy to fight with it and his sword at the same time. So my idea was this: the blade will be attached to a gauntlet that he wears on his left hand (the gauntlet is practically just a glove, it won't offer any protection), and the blade can be detached from it so that he doesn't have a spike sticking out of his hand all the time. :p Is that too drastic a change? Sorry to be finicky, I just don't want to do anything I'm not allowed to.
