Cleis waited in the deep of the Enchanted Wood, still curdled up on the root of the tree she slept in the night when it rained hard. The birds sang in the morning light and the sunlight pierced through the trees and reached the forest floor. Her breathing softly rose and fell and her brown eyes lay hidden beneath her closed eyelids. Just then the tranquility of the forest was broken by a piercing scream. She awoke and quickly stood up. Behind the tall trees of the woods were cutthroats and low life thieves.

"What do we have here?" one of the bandits asked with venom in his voice.

"I don't know," replied the other. "Why don't we have a look?"

The first bandit tried to sieze Cleis' arm and her silver hair was siezed by the other. She kicked and tried to run but to no avail she had no strength to fight them off. Instead of resisting, she immediately lost all hope....

The wind picked up, the hair of the bandits, though greasy and unkempt, where thrown about. The high winds whistled and cried, almost silencing the cries of the woman accosted by the bandits. The treetops swayed and waved, almost uncaring of the fate of the woman below. The sad fact, many of the forest nymphs and dryads, where all gone, leaving Avalon for clearer skies, lusher forests. However, someone in the forest cared, made apparent by the trees falling quickly, crashing to the ground. Heads turned, into the green scales and sharp eye of a massive dragon.

"Well Tiberius, looks like we have a few trespassers on our lands. Y?ou have one chance, ONE chance, to drop the woman, and your weapons, and get out of our forest..." Said a robed figure, standing atop the dragons head, holding onto the dragon's horns. The dragon, Tiberius, shifted its tail, the figure sliding down the dragons back to skate down and onto the ground. A flash of steel showed that he had draw a weapon, an elvish short sword, his other hand empty, but armored in chain mail.

The figure drew back his hood, to show the brown haired brew master, Morte Rajin.

Cleis' eyes widened at the man who was with the dragon. She forgot the bandits who held her and invaded her personal space. At the instant the hood fell away from the man's face all her attention was on him. She didn't why she stared so much nor why she even cared to look his way but she did anyway.

'This man has a strange aura about him,' she thought. 'I can't point out what though.'

The bandits didn't edge away from her. Instead they continued their dark deed. Holding a knife against her throat, they demanded for jewels and valuable items. The gem on Cleis' hair has been taken off her and all that was left was the staff that she left by her side as she slept.

She looked at the roots of the tree but when she looked to the staff's direction, it wasn't there. Instead, in it's place was a longsword beautifully gleaming in the morning light. Her gaze was followed by the man with the hood and the three bandits. Silence fell on the forest once more at the sight of the majestic sword.

Before Cleis' can even wrench herself free, one of the bandits started to run towards it's direction. Without thinking twice Cleis' shouted at the hooded man.

"You, do something!" she cried to him. "You've got to help me."

She looked at the sword longily. It was the only remaining object she had of 'home' or at least what she believed was home. The man didn't move. He just stared. Determined to get what was hers, she knew a price had to be paid. Without money or anything else left to give him.

"I'll do anything you ask, " she said looking him straight in the eye with her brown eyes filled with hatred and loss. "Just help me get rid off them and I'll try to fulfill your request."

Morte burned with anger, The bandits ignored him, still trying to loot and coruse her into giving them what they wanted. Fine, if that's how they wanted it, they were warned. Morte pointed with two fingers at the man rushing for the sword leaning against the tree, Tiberius caught his motion and leapt into action....

As much as a lazy dragon could leap. He leaned down and opened his jaws, catching the bandit with his sharp teeth, lifting the now screaming man into the air, his legs flailing about wildly. "I'll do anything you ask, " said the woman looking him straight in the eye with her brown eyes filled with hatred and loss. "Just help me get rid off them and I'll try to fulfill your request." He was already planning on ridding the forest of this blight, so whatever she had to give would be taken care of later. The saw toothed bandit that held a knife to her neck growled at Morte, "You take one more step and she gets it!" He warned.

Morte slowly raised his hands, dropping the sword to the ground, his palms raised into the air. "Ok ok, let's all just relax..." Morte said calmly, one of the bandits leaving her to go to try and steal the sword. The other man with the knife watched Morte carefully, through his one good eye, the other in an eye patch. Well, he'd need a second eye patch after a bolt of magical energy shot right through his eye, and a coffin. The bandit fell backwards, a fountain of blood unfortunately pouring over the girl as the second bandit looked to see his fallen comrade. "You sonova!" He shouted, rushing at Morte, a small axe in his hand.

Morte rolled out of the way of the slash, picking up his sword and taking a readied stance.

She stood there with blood splattered over her sleeveless blue robe. She stood there in fear and unable to move a single muscle. It's like the whole of Avalon stopped. Her eyes widened and her heart beated faster.

'Is he dead?' those words echoed through her mind.

She looked at the man who saved her. She felt dizzy and nauseous at the sight of the fountain of the blood pouring. Her legs grew weak and then she slowly dropped to the forest floors. Her eyesight began to fail and the last thing she saw was the hooded man called Morte edging closer to her.

Morte jumped out of the way of yet another hack from the bandits axe, slashing at the bandits leg as he did so. Out of the cornr of his eye he saw the lady pass out, the shock must've been too much for her. The bandit noticed his distraction and gave him a swift kick in the chest. Morte gasped and took several steps back, clutching his chest.

Morte fought with this bandit for quite some time, tradeing blows, punches, and kicks. It came to a point when both had wrestled eachother's weapons from their grasp, and were tumbling around punching, scratching, and biting. The bandit pinned Morte, snarling down at him, "After i've killed you i'm going back to your little girlfriend!" Morte glared at the man, and looked and inch to the side. He smirked, "I dont think so..." The man hardly had the time to open his moth to ask why when a pair of teeth sank into his chest, hurling his upwartd and into the skies, hurtling away screaming like a girl.

Morte got up and dusted himself off, wiping a bit of blood from his mouth, "Thanks Tiberius, I owe you one." The dragon snorted, "Ok ok! Two." Morte walked over to the woman who was passed out, and wiped a bit of the blood from her forehead, "She's had quite the fright hasn't she? We should take her home." Morte said, grabbing her sword and hauling her into his arms. He flew up into the air, carrying her to his home, the Hermit's Tower of the Enchanted Forest.

She felt huge hands touch her and the air around her seemed to change. It changed from the dampness of the forest floor to the warmth of a soft bed. Cleis slept peacefully and allowed hereself to bury her face in one of the soft pillows. She didn't knew it at first but after awhile she moved her arm and felt a body right next to her.

'Hrm, that's not mine.' she said in her sleep. She tried to feel for her sword but instead her hand was held by another.

'That's is seriously not mine.'

She forced herself to wake up and she opened her eyes. Her silver hair fell in front of her face covering her brown eyes. When she looked to the direction which she felt the body she realized that it was the man who saved her. She quickly jumped out of the bed blushing.

'Did I do anything irrational?' she muttered to herself. ' Wait, what hell no...'

She scanned the room for her sword but she stopped remembering she wa sin the presence of the man who saved her. She lowered her head to show her respect but she couldn't help it but to be rude.

'Forgive my intrusion,' she said in a very formal tone. 'I will leave immeadietly but before I do so, my sword if you please.'

She held out her hand to the man and awaited for his reply.

Morte had flown the woman back to his tower, carrying her to his bed and resting her there. The fight had caught up to him, along with the adrenaline he'd wasted flying away after he didnt give Tiberius his weekly barrel of dragon ale, and he collapsed onto the bed. However, it was a large bed, so he wasnt directly next to her.

The woman woke up first, leaping quickly out of the bed in fright, the movement not yet waking up Morte. She apologized and spoke in a very formal tone, with an air around her that spoke of a good upbringing, sad that she was caught in such a dangerous situation.

Though, Morte was still asleep.

Her sword law on the floor in the hallway, slipping from Morte's grasp when he carried her into the house in an exhausted state.

Though, unknown to the two of them, the dragon and curled up around the base of the house, blocking the front door and windows with his green bulk.

She watched the figure of the man who lay asleep on the bed she was in as his chest rose and fell synchronised with his breathing. She walked to him a bit closer and reached to try and wake him up. However, she withdrew it not wanting to be rude nor come across as demanding. After all, he did save her life. She blushed at the thought that she slept by his side. She would never have done it in her entire life - she didn't need a man to survive. The Elves didn't think so, so why should she?

'Thank you.' she whispered softly in his ear and then she quickly strolled out of the room closing the door gently behind her.

She straightened out her sleeveless blue robe taht stopped an inch above her knees as she walked along the hallway, spotting immeadietly her Longsword which was a staff before.

'There you are,' she told her sword.' I've been looking for you.'

Strapping it behind her back, she began to walk to wards the front door but then she stopped dead on her tracks just three steps in front of it.

Something is amiss here, she thought to herself. The air is different.

She tried to open the door but she couldn't push it open. She screamed at it, kicked it and punched it with her fist until they bled but to no avail it didn't open. She made so much racket that she forgot that the man who saved her was in bed asleep.

'Damnit!!!!!!'

She decided to ram in with full strength and with every fibre of her being. She started just about 3 meters away from the door and then ran to it at top speed.

'Open already!'

As she poured out all her energy into opening the door then she heard a huge grunting noise.

'He-hello?' she said nervously after rubbing her sore muscles from ramming the door. 'I didn't mean to wake you sir but I was just leaving.'

She assumed it was Morte who was grunting. It grunted again but this time the smell of fire, soot and sulfur reached her. It was then she realised it was from the outside.

'That is definitely not him.'

She ran faster than she ever did in her entire life towards the room she slept in. Quickly jumping in the bed and pressing herself to the man who saved her she began to shiver in fear.

'Ah, there's something scary outside,' she screamed at him with her voice shaking. 'Do something!'

She was soon on top of him trying to wake him up in fear of what was outside.

Morte was shocked awake when a scared shivering form jumped into the bed and pressed close to him. Was it Lily? Mona? It dawned on him of who it was, the woman he'd saved from those bandits, he'd carried her home and fell asleep on the bed next to her.

She was scared, shivering like a leaf now, about what? "Ah, there's something scary outside,' the woman screamed at him, her voice shaking, "do something!"

Morte sat up in bed, still fully clothed, armor as well, and put an arm around the women to comfort her, she was in fact sitting on top of her in an effort to wake him up. Morte looked around, confused at the sudden darkness. He hadnt been asleep that long had he? He looked to the window, seeing nothing but darkness coming from them, but wait, when he looked closer he saw...

Scales. Of course... "Miss, calm yourself." Morte said in a calming voice, slowly running his hand up and down her back to comfort her, "It seems my trained dragon has fallen asleep around the tower and blocked the windows and doors. He does that sometimes... But there is nothing to worry about, he is trained, and as gentle as a kitten unless told otherwise."

He continued to calm her by rubbing her back with hi hand, and noticed a sudden wetness on his shoulder where she held him. He pulled back and saw it, blood. "You're hurt!" He exclaimed, looking at the cuts on her knuckles. He suddenly blushed realizing the provocation position they were currently in, Him leaning up holding her in her arms, and she sitting on top of her, wearing a short dress that rode up a little from her sitting on him. He clear his throat, "Umm... I have some bandages and food in the kitchen..."

She felt fingers stroke her back gently as she was in a provocative position with this man. Cleis was so scared that she forgot that she was on him and she was being very rude. After realizing this, she blushed so hard in front of him she could've sworn her face was red as blood itself. She didn't know what to do with herself. One, she was standing in front of her savior and all she did was to keep on asking help from him. Two, she remembered the price she had to pay. After all even though she was an adopted Cephirian, debt must always be paid.

She quickly got out of the bed and knelt on one knee to show her respects using her sword to lean on to. With her head bowed, she acknowledged him.

‘Forgive my intrusion and rudeness kind sir,’ she said humbly and modestly. ‘I am Cleis Aetherus, Oracle of Cephir. I am in debt to you for saving my life. Please name your price and I will give it.’

She paused trying to reflect on what she just said.

‘Well, let’s say Oracle-in-training.’ She lifted her head to the man who was on the bed. ‘I’m also sorry about blood on your clothes and about your front door.’

She remembered how the front door was full of scratches from her nails and her sword.

As she waited for his reply as she was kneeling on the floor she heard another grunt and she couldn't help but press close to him again. She nearly broke to tears this time.

'Cephirians aren't meant to be scared but I can't help it,' she told him with a shaky voice and staining a bit of his armor with blood. 'That dragon is definitely not a kitty. Kitty's are cute and fluffy and they smell like milk. Not sulfur and scaly and big and goes trapping poeple in towers.'

The two of them were blushing like beets, until the woman got off of him and knelt before him. ‘Forgive my intrusion and rudeness kind sir,’ she said modestly, ‘I am Cleis Aetherus, Oracle of Cephir. I am in debt to you for saving my life. Please name your price and I will give it.’ She added on a small note, an Oracle in training to be precise.

Morte chuckled a bit and nodded, "And I am Morte Rajin, professional brew master."

Cleis then apologized for bloodening his door and clothes, but it was no problem, a wet cloth would wipe off the blood on the door, and blood was already there from the skirmish with the bandits.

Tiberius grunted in his sleep, sending Cleis leaping back into Morte's lap, shivering and close to crying. With a shaky voice she went on to say, 'Cephirians aren't meant to be scared but I can't help it, That dragon is definitely not a kitty. Kitty's are cute and fluffy and they smell like milk. Not sulfur and scaly and big and goes trapping people in towers.'

He smirked and stood up, holding Cleis in his arms and carrying her to the kitchen, "Well yes, Tiberius is a little scary at times. Come on then, lets get those cuts of yours cleaned up." He carried her into the kitchen, grabbing a rag and wetting in in the water basin, sitting her on the counter. He lightly dabbed at her cuts on her knuckles, smiling as he did so.

"Nothing to worry about Miss Aetherus, the dragon will do little more then sleep and drink. Speaking of drinks, would you like one? I have quite the collection."

She liked the feeling of being held by Morte as he carried her to the kitchen and saw him smiling as he dabbed her cuts clean. She liked his smile, it wasn’t like the handsome smile the Elvish boys had but it was that of someone who knew who they were and where they are heading in life.

‘He’s charming but weird…’ she thought to herself. As she looked at him mesmerized by his smile she couldn’t help but to know what that smile ‘felt like’. So, using her pointer finger she traced his lips. She blushed while she was doing this, but she had to know.

‘Sorry,’ she said after withdrawing her finger blushing. ‘I had to know what a smile of a non-elf boy felt like.’

She felt like an idiot to him. She felt like she stroke him as a deranged maniac who was a pathetic excuse for an Oracle. This disheartened her but nonetheless, she was an Oracle. Just then as she grew silent with nothing to say she remembered he asked her if he wanted a drink.

‘Uhm… Mr. Rajin, sir,’ she told him a bit distracted and shy. ‘Thank you for your gracious offer for a drink but I must humbly refuse your offer. I am too young to drink. Besides, it’s rude for a girl to drink. It is considered as poison to the Cephirian race. Please, forgive my denial.’

Morte finished cleaning up Cleis' cuts, the blood clotted so no more would follow. "There we go all be-" Morte was cut off when the lady for some reason reached out and traced his lips with her pointer finger.

"Uhh..." Morte said, blushing a bit. ‘Sorry,’ Cleis said, ‘I had to know what a smile of a non-elf boy felt like.’

'Elf culture sure is strange...' Morte thought to himself, putting the rag down and smiling at Cleis. To make her feel less embarrassed, He reached out and ran his finger along her lips, which was so soft, so tender... "There, now i know what you're feels like."

‘Uhm… Mr. Rajin, sir,’ Cleis said in her shy distant voice, ‘thank you for your gracious offer for a drink but I must humbly refuse your offer. I am too young to drink. Besides, it’s rude for a girl to drink. It is considered as poison to the Cephirian race. Please, forgive my denial.’ He smirked, he'd heard this argument before. "Please Miss Aetherus, you're what? Eighteen, Nineteen? And this is Avalon, a different land with different rules."

Morte took a bunch of grapes from his cabinet, takeing a single one from the sting, bringing it to her mouth. "Wine, it is nothing more then this..."

As he placed the tiny grape to her mouth she blushed even deeper. She did eat it but it was weird having to do so when it was offered to your mouth. The grape was very juicy and it was sweet unlike the one's she used to eat back in Cephir which were sour.

"Uhm... it's sweet," she said blushing and covering her mouth with her mouth. "Wine however is very displeasing to the tongue. In my case it is.I drink water and that sir is good enough to please my tongue."

"I might be in a different land and place," she added with a bit of melancholy in her tone. "But it is good for one to keep one's values and culture wherever they go to."

She couldn't look at him. Cephirians treated outsiders of their own kind no more than enemies. She knew she had to leave this place quickly but somehow she was compelled yo stay .

"The Fates have been playing with me lately," she told him straight in the eye. 'I'm only eighteen and I have to deal with tons of Celestial Stuff already. Geez, my culture is odd."
