Somehow…for some reason…against better judgment…the shade had found himself in a desert. Why? Something interested the dark soul. Despite his very nature of sticking to darkness and slipping about in the shadows, he came to one of the few places on earth where there was literally no place to hide, even for him. There were no trees…no mountains or even big pieces of rock. It was just endless mounds of hot sand with the sun bearing down over head. Achar was soon regretting the decision. The heat was unbelievable. Even he was actually sweating, his usual cold body soon becoming warm with the unforgiving sun. “Oh my…I hate this place…oh I do.” The shade had come here on the basis of investigating rumors. There was said to be something lurking beneath the nigh endless Desert of Lost Souls; a creature of some sort, consuming travelers who were unfortunate to cross its path. The catch was, however, that it didn’t roam the usual beaten path of wanderers. It kept to the other reaches, mounds of sand that were less traveled. He sighed deeply, tilting his head back slightly to peer up at the sun. It was slowly dropping down towards the horizon. It couldn’t possibly move any slower it seemed. It was beating down on his left side and his neck felt like it had a knot in it now from leaning his head towards the sun so that his wide brimmed hat would shade his face. It didn’t help that he was a man of dark natures and adorned himself in black clothing…absorbing even greater amounts of heat. The whole situation pleaded insanity on his behalf. Another hill of sand behind him, the shade decided to stop for a short break. He looked back, seeing his countless footsteps trailing for a mile or so…but he knew they reached even further. With a sigh he knelt down, tugging his hat low as he took a breather. Sweat drenched through his clothing and dripped from his pale face. It didn’t help that in direct sun light he was at his weakest and his powers had waned somewhat through out the day. The whole time he had been walking with less strength than usual. “This seems all so very pointless…oh yes…I might have to drink my own blood just to dry this parched mouth it seems…” The shade hadn’t come properly prepared, oh no. Foolish was he. If he died out here…that would be a sad end indeed. Achar, thus, pushed himself up and continued on. Night would come soon and with it frigid temperatures. He couldn’t wait to feel that cold once more. The next step would be to merely find whatever it was he was searching for…the supposed beastie that lived beneath the sands. |

Akire grumbled as he trudged through the damned desert. Who had thought this was a brilliant idea again? Oh yeah, Moron, you did. He silently beratted himself, not daring to voice his annoyance for fear of expending energy he didn't want to waste. He was a bloody snow-leopard. Snow! As in cold! He was more accustomed to freezing temperatures than blistering heat. So what was he doing in the desert? Being a sucker for those in need. When wasn't he a sucker for those in need? Sighing, he hefted the water canteen he had fastened on a long strap around his torso and then checked the second one at his side. There was still 3/4 of a canteen there. If he rationed out his water reasonably, he'd be okay for a while. He had come relatively prepared, considering the circumstances and the short notice he had given himself. Idiot. "Oh shut up." He muttered to himself as he continued on. He couldn't wait until nightfall. His animal side begged to just lie down and curl up in a furry little ball until cooler temperatures came, but he refused to let his animalistic side dictate what he, as the man, did. He needed to push his miserable ass further and figure out what was killing these bloody people in the desert and be done with it. He wanted to groan at himself. He was unable to leave a challange undefeated and he knew that, even if the desert killed him long before he found the worm, he'd still go down fighting. What had landed him in this mess? A drunken debate. He had been drinking in a tavern when another man had started schpeeling this tale about how he had escaped the desert sand-worm... thing, while his friend of some 5 years had been taken by it. Akire had called the man out, letting him know what he thought of his cowardice for abandoning his friend when he had needed him, and the man had tried to warn him about the desert and about the worm itself, but Akire hadn't listened. Being the idiotic, beligerant drunk he was, he had let himself be goaded into treking into the damned desert to find the cursed thing. The worst part about it was that he thought that he might have been duped. That this was all just some sort of elaborate hoax to cover up for the fact that the other man had gone off an murdered his friend in the desert. Either way, Akire would get to the bottom of it. He topped a sand hill and nearly missed the fact that there were footprints right under his nose. Frowning, Akire followed the trail with his eyes, and a little ways off, in the distance, he saw a dark figure trudging along, looking a lot worse for wear than Akire himself was. He cringed as he took in the sight and shook his head, knowing that he couldn't leave the man alone out there if he was really as bad off as Akire suspected. Growling under his breath at the weight of his conscience, he turned in the direction of the stranger and trudged after him, not taking overly long to catch up. "Hey... Are you well? You dont look like you're doing terribly we-" His words cut off as he noted the severe lack of any sort of sustinance with the character. Rolling his eyes, he swung a canteen off his shoulder and shoved it in the stranger's hands. "Drink slowly, and not too much." He said, narrowing his eyes in concern. |

The beating heat was doing much to try and crush the shade. There was a reason he preferred the shadows and the giant glowing orb in the sky was a very important one. He felt as if he was wasting away. It would take a bit more than blistering heat to rid the world of his dark presence…but it surely was enough to make him want to actually sit down and call it quits for a bit. Achar wasn’t accustomed to these sorts of conditions and quickly they were wearing on him and his unprepared body. “Perhaps this human should have been sturdier…yes yes…” The dark spirit didn’t have a choice for whom he had controlled. At least he had acquired a body. Foolish sorcerers, always dabbling in things they didn’t understand. Yet…Achar in his infinite wisdom, despite being many…many years old, found himself out here in the middle of this barren hell. He almost felt that this place was actually better than that despicable void he resided in for so long. Unknown to him was the presence of another. It wasn’t until he was actually upon the shade that he took notice to the man. That was unlike the killer to be so unawares but he didn’t show it as he turned to look at the stranger. Red eyes were drawn down into narrow slits as he stared at him for a moment. Achar was tired for once and he wasn’t in the mood to play any games, a first. However, the man came with kindness…which made him feel a tad uneasy. It was rare for kindness in this world, especially for someone to offer it to him as ominous looking as he was…and then they were here in this desert where water was scarce. So it seemed that it was a ploy. Achar, however, was too drained to care or put any more thought into the matter. “Hmph…strange one,” he mumbled, taking the water and taking a slow drink from the canteen. The shade didn’t require much and returned it quickly. He knew how important water was in this land. Generally he required little nourishment or substance to keep him going…but right now he felt like he could actually sit down and have a meal. He looked the man over for a moment, wondering exactly why he was out here…then it clicked. Perhaps the same reason he was…looking for a beastie under the sands. “The chances of us two running into each other in this hell seems rather slim…so we must have a common goal, yes yes…” Achar felt his strength returning…slowly, but it was making its way back into his body. The shade composed himself, straightening his body and crossing his arms behind his back, taking to his usual posture once more. “Looking for a wurm perhaps?...” |

Well, wasn't this just his luck? Akire had come to the desert to find some sort of damned sandwurm, and in the process had come face to face with about the only man in the world who had ever given him the creeps. Lovely. Just bloody peachy. He took the canteen back from the man and threw the strap back over his shoulder as he eyed the peculiar stranger who was, inevitably, dressed in black clothing, with no water in the middle of the bloody desert. Well... he's either an idiot... or... Well hell, I can't think of another reason he'd be in the desert in dark, warm clothing with no water. Akire tried to push the thoughts out of his head and figure the strange man out. The only thing he recieved from his efforts was the dull pain in his head in the beginning stages of a headache. He didn't like the way the other man eyed him, as if he were some sort of problem to be solved... or exterminated if it couldn't be solved. Even still, he grunted acknlowdgement as the other man called him a 'strange one'. "Hngh... Glad I could be of help." He said, eyeing the man as he unscrewed the lid to his canteen and brought it to his own lips for a drink. Setting the canteen back at his side he was about to make his excuses and get the ever-loving hell out of there when the other man considered Akire's presence. Akire hadn't really wanted to know why the other man was there. In fact, all he really wanted was away from him. There seemed something almost wrong about the other man, though he couldn't pinpoint it. His animal half was on edge and he could feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end with the notion that the other man wasn't exactly quite... human. He listened as the man reasoned out that they were likely out in the middle of the ever-loving desert, searching for some thing that would be a common goal of theirs. Why the bloody hell would he be looking for the wurm? He thought irritably. Sure enough, the other man spoke up and mentioned the wurm. Oh yay. "Uhh.. Yes. There was mention from some people a ways off from here in a little village. One man had claimed the thing had eaten his friend while he narrowly escaped with his life." Akire shrugged a broad shoulder. "I've basically come to determine whether the thing really exists or not, or whether I should go back to the fool in the village and gut him like a fish for trying to cover up the fact that he murdered his own friend for whatever reason." He said, sounding matter-of-factly. He couldnt possibly fathom why the other man would be in search for the wurm, but he decided not to voice that comment and keep it to himself. |

Achar couldn’t help his natural ability to instill fear and doubt into others. The dark presence of the shade was more than strong enough to be felt than even the most untrained of souls. He was a killer to the core and held such a level of evil about him that he rarely even need to look at another to cause panic and distrust. Achar did pride himself on that certain quality…it humored him so to feel everyone’s worried eye fall on the man as he entered a room or walked through a crowd. It did much to attract attention however, a reason why he kept to the shadows more often than not. He eyed the stranger, already know well why he was here. Of course their reasons differed as to why they were enduring this desert and its unforgiving heat. Achar came out of curiosity, as he did with many things. This one…dealing with drunken idiots was the case. The shade wasn’t in the mood for company and was prepared to cast the many away if he burdened him further. “I am here for far more simplistic reasons…merely because I wished to. If there was a wurm…I wanted to see it for myself…” The shade spoke with a frigid tone, lacking his usual humor. In those instances he was a tad more frightful, for his attitude depended greatly on if he was ‘happy’ or not. A ‘happy’ death by his blade was certain to be less painful than one where the shade was a tad displeased. Achar then turned away from the man, not caring about him any further. The ‘kind’ one had given him some water and for that, he wouldn’t feel the edge of his blade this day. The shade just wanted to get this foolish quest over with so that he could find much colder climates. The evening was soon to change for the worse, however, as the earth began to tremble beneath their feet. “Oh my…another visitor so soon…I am so lucky,” he said sarcastically, red eyes scanning the sands. The quake was quickly growing stronger and closer. “Seems we need not look any further,” Achar remarked, looking back at the man. The shade held onto his hat as a burst of sand erupted in front of the duo. Achar felt himself pelted by the tiny granules. A sigh of annoyance escaped his throat. “Oh…it’s ugly,” he said plainly as the dust cleared and before them loomed the massive head of the great beast. Its ‘face’ appeared to be one large mouth, split into four large rows of teeth that all converged in a central point deep in its throat. “Well,” he left it at that he darted off to the left, the wurm suddenly slamming its mouth, jaws opened wide, to consume the pair. Achar was quick to leave the scene, not caring a bit about the stranger or if he was eaten. Honestly he felt that it would serve him right for annoying the killer with his presence…but he did give him water… “I’ll call it bad luck and leave it at that…” |

Akire wanted to bite out a nasty comment at the man, but decided against it. There was something sinister about the other man that made Akire think of some sort of shadow-lurking monster that his brother used to try to frighten him with when he was younger. Well, I'll be damned. The monsters that hide under your bed are real. And apparently they're all stuck up ass- Akire's thought was broken off as the stranger began to walk away from him. Akire stared at his back incredulously. There was no 'thank you's. There was no comment at all the from harsh man as he spun around and continued on his way. Akire cursed under his breath and turned away from the other man, calling over his shoulder. "Have fun frying your ass off." His comment was cut short, however, when the ground started rumbling beneath them. "Oh for the greater good of ever-loving hell." He cursed as the sand beneath them shifted and the giant monstrosity of the wurm made itself quite apparent in the gleaming sun. The giant monstrosity dove at them, its jaws agape, and it was all Akire could do to dive out of the way and tuck his body into a neat little roll as it's jaws came down on the ground where he had just been standing. The other bastard that could scarcely be called a man had danced out of the way, not caring whether or not Akire had been eaten alive. "Remind me why I try to help people again? To be repaid by getting eaten by a sandwurm? Right... that must be it." He muttered sarcastically as he watched the wurm straighten itself out again. Akire frowned as it's massive body writhed and squirmed and he found himself making a sound of disgust in the back of his throat. Unfortunatly, his little acrobatics act had attracted the attention of the worm, and it's hideous little eyes were trained on the lycan. "Oh, you have got to be joking me." He muttered as he dodged another attempted devouring by the beast. He rolled in the direction that Achar had gone, hoping that the wurm's attention would at least be diverted for a moment. He grinned when the wurm seemed to take notice of Achar, and in an instant, Akire was up on his feet again, unsure whether he should attack the bloody thing, or run for his life. |

The wurm hit the sand and an explosion of dust sprayed over the shade. Achar toppled to a knee, still feeling a tad weak. His red eyes looked at the horizon. The yellow orb was teasing him, slowly dropping below the earth to release him from heat and light. He growled and stood up, brushing himself off before turning around to see where the beast was now. It had already reared back, looking to strike again. Its attention was on the stranger now. A sly grin crossed his face. At least now he was feeling a tad humored. Achar watched as the fool started moving towards him. “Oh…want me to play with the beastie, eh?” The shade sighed and flicked his hand, four blades fitting snugly between his fingers in his right appendage. The wurm was coming his way now…to his displeasure. “What, you two aren’t getting along?” He yelled at the stranger before the shade stepped forward. It rose up into the air, a massive beast. Achar waited until the massive jaws came slamming down towards him before he leapt off to the left. With all the power he could muster, his legs sprung him out of the way. The wurm crashed into the sand once more, but this time didn’t rise up once again. It started digging, burrowing into the ground. “It’ll come up from below!” The shade got to his feet, sighing as he had to pick up his hat. Brushing it off, he placed it back on his head, the earth below them rumbling as the wurm disappeared. The sun had just lowered itself under the horizon. The night sky now loomed over head and with it came a drastic decrease in temperature. Already he was feeling livelier, stronger with the lack of sun light. The wurm came roaring up from the sand once more, blasting the shade away from the eruption point. He crashed with a thud, a growl slipping through his teeth. Instinctively a free hand rested upon his hat, keeping it from flying off when he landed. Achar was quick to his feet, whipped his hand back then flung the four knives forward into the oncoming wurm’s mouth, stabbing the soft tissue within its jaws. It withdrew in slight pain, surprised by its prey striking back. The knives only served to piss the creature off however as he came thundering down once more. Achar chuckled as the moon shown overhead and in the darkness the large beast spread a massive shadow. The shade was quick to disappear beneath the beastie. It crashed into the sand whilst Achar remerged down the length of the beast’s body, leaping off to the right and rolling back to his feet. “This’ll be tricky…” |

Akire finally managed to gain enough footing to draw his sword and unwrap the canteens from around his body. It gave him the freedom and movement he needed to take care of quick movements. He watched as the stranger danced around the creature and smiled to himself. Well, at the very least he was competent. That gave Akire confidence that perhaps, just maybe, they could overcome the massive writhing beast in front of them. The thing dove for the other man and then went underground. Akire took a moment to look around, trying to discern with any senses he could where the thing would pop up again. The only problem was, the entire ground around and beneath them was rumbling with the movement of the thing. It could come up anywhere at anytime, and Akire was more than aware of this. He crouched down low, preparing to propelle his body forward and out of the way if he needed to in a hurry. When it came up, it came up not far from where he stood, and he found himself springing away from the beast to avoid being sucked into the loose sand near the base of the creature's body. He cringed as it launched at the little dark clad man and the man leapt away from it. He looked up the length of the body of the thing and sighed. "Oh hell, where to begin." He murmured a moment before he sprung into action, racing for the right flank. He brought his blade into contact with the wurm's flesh with an upward stroke, gagging at the putride smell the thing emited when he cut into it's flesh. Gods, this thing was horrid! He groaned as the wurm screeched its fury, only being angered in the attack and turned its attention on him. Do what you have to do. He thought as he gained a footing on the side of the beast and launched himself onto it's back and then ran down the other side of the thing. Keep moving. Keep thinking. Keep moving. Don't stop. He thought as he ran around to the rear of the beast, hacking and slashing anything available to him at the moment. The creature was massive and its movements were clumsy. It couldn't move nearly as fast as either man, and Akire knew it. It was the only thing that kept him alive. |
