The frozen north was a barren land of ice and snow. It was one of the most inhabitable regions of Avalon. Past the icy borders laid barbarian tribes, fighting amongst themselves for land and control. The cold kept the area to themselves, as new settlers rarely attempted to dare the chilling walk. However, there were a few from those tribes that ventured south in search of grander things. Whether it be riches or glory, the sort that made the trip were strong and capable beyond most normal means. Especially one warrior that left his home some three hundred years ago, looking to test his power against any who challenged him. Yet, there were many a times he lingered for home, to visit the lands again. Of course, the same people wouldn’t be around any more. That was the price he paid for being able to defy time. A gift and a curse. Codrus found himself a comfortable ridge to the east of Blizzard Cove. The waters were frozen over, allowing for travel farther into the north. Past the ice rested the tribal lands. Maybe one day he could see them again. “Pft,” he mumbled, grinning as he stared off. Finally he turned and started back down the snow coffered cliff. It made a wide arc down towards the Cove. Each side had a steep drop and with the ice, slipping off wasn’t very difficult. The warrior made sure to keep himself in the center. The fall might not have killed him…but it would certainly hurt like hell. What now? He wondered to himself. The large, cloaked man didn’t have any other plans. He hadn’t visited the harbor town yet. That hardly interested him though. Perhaps he could do a bit more wandering…see what these lands had to offer. |

Ruby leaned back against the cliff wall, she was enjoyiing her time out of hell and had no particular desire to return anytime soon. Most mortals in her attire would be half frozen by now, but her demonic blood kept her warm ... that is until now, finally she was beginning to feel a slight chill. But a figure up ahead caught her attention, curious she silently moved closer, then waited a while to see if her presence had been noted. |

The barbarian had zoned out a bit as he walked. During his long years of travel, he had learned to do that well. He let his mind wander off to take his thoughts off the journey at hand. It made things go by quicker that way. If there were others about, he hadn’t a clue. It wasn’t like he needed to be overly cautious either. Codrus was a large, powerful warrior. Underneath his cloak hid a nigh unbreakable armor and a weapon nearly as long as he was tall. He had fought many manners of creatures. He held no fear of attack for if he was, whatever it is, would have been decisively dealt with. Suddenly, however, he stopped, eyes regaining a big of awareness as the barbarian looked to his left. He was still unaware of the lass that gazed at the man from his right. Where he eyed, the snow moved. Something was there, he knew it…it was actually hunting him. The thought made him grin. No need to startle it quite yet though. Codrus turned his view away from the hunter, this time noticing the woman from the corner of his eye. He cocked a brow at her, eyeing the lady up and down. She was a sight indeed. Of course, whatever was stalking about would eye her as a target as well. With a grin he started walking, his gaze tearing away reluctantly, “What’s a beaut’ like you doin’ in the frigid cold, hm?” Codrus expected her to follow…she had been watching him after all. He also kept aware of the ‘other’ beastie out there stalking him. |

Ruby smiled, "the same question could be asked of you" She'd watched him notice the creature that was out there, she'd been aware of another presence, but paid no heed to it. The wind was growing stronger now, making it more difficult to move, and it carried cold snow with it, making danger harder to see. Hmm, this man hadnt seemed to notice that she was anything other than a beautiful mortal woman, and that was fine by her, there would be plenty of time toshow him her little tricks later. She smirked to herself when he turned his back, oh the ego of men, she assumed that she was expected to follow, but Ruby didnt mind, she liked confidence in a man, better a man who would be confident than a snivelling coward. So she followed him, her footsteps not making a sound. A gutteral snarl came from somewhere up ahead. Was it the creature? Slipping up beside him, she lightly laid a hand on his arm, "So then, I hope your not afraid of monsters" |

Codrus wasn't the sort to be aware of much other than that there were another presence around. The barbarian knew the beast was stalking him...a poor choice on its part. And the lass...she was lovely eye candy, but he didn't know if she was human or not. Out in this cold...probably not. They were weak creatures...most he knew...unlike his brethern in the north, they were the few humans he had the fortune to cross, able to withstand the icy tundra and more. "Ah was just takin' a look at home, aye aye." He grinned back at her before continuing forward. The beast was snaking up ahead, looking to cut them off. The barbarian balled a fist, cracking his knuckles. The lass had walked up to his side and placed a hand on his arm. Codrus cocked a brow down at her, "Afraid?...Lil' one, ya aren't aware of who I am...so Ah'll let that wee 'joke' slide." With a chuckle he went on, scanning the horizon for the beast. Suddenly a low growl came from his left and he looked in time to see a large dire wolf charging at the half-demon. Codrus brought around his right hand and slammed a heavy fist into the creature's neck, knocking it to the side with ease. "A wolf, eh? There are others then," he said to the lass, looking around for the rest of the pack. The one he smacked away was slow so stand up, but he wouldn't make it too far. Codrus brought a heavy boot down on its neck and with a heave, snapped the bone like a twig. "Hmph...stupid things." |

'Lil one' - ha that made her smile, she might only look like a beautiful young lass to him, but she was older than most, still it made a change from her calling her companions little and young. Ah, so the monster had turned out to be nothing more than a few wolves, she sighed, almost disapointed. Still it was interesting to watch him kill without the use of any weapon, Ruby couldnt help but admire his physical strength ... amongst other things. "A hunting pack most likely" taking a few steps forward, Ruby drew her sword, it would have been quicker to kill the beasts on mass, with magic, but she needed the practise with her blade. "Strange though, that they're so far north ..." had desperation out of hunger driven them further afield - no the wolf that lay slain was far too sturdy looking to be dying of hunger ... but then what. Then the realisation hit her ... "they're not a hunting pack - they're on the defensive" the demoness called out to her companion, "but on the defensive from what?" As to answer her theory a long mournful wail called out loud and low, like nothing she had ever heard before. Her eyes widened a fraction, and she visibly tensed, but still she remained, ready to fight. She cast a glance over at the man behind her and smiled, whatever it was out there wouldnt stand a chance .... or so she hoped. Edited by Ruby, Jun 10 2009, 04:03 AM.
