Rain, it pounded upon everything that was around, drenching human and other alike. They had constructed what barricades they could for the coming storm. The outer arm was just slamming inland and a thirty plus storm surge welled in the distance, about to his the first defense. They had sunk a great amount of ships to use as a storm breaker. It had worked against the smaller and more initial waves, but he doubted it would stand the real wave. He doubted anything would be left after this was all over with.

People had boarded up, taken possessions and left. Left a long time ago. Only the few that were to stay, like criminals, guards and helpful souls were there to barricade against the storm. They had finished taking apart a wooden cart and using the wood to complete a seven foot wall that would help slow the progress of the waves, or so they hoped. They also filled bags with dirt and sand and anything else that would keep the water out and laid them at least four feet high all along the board walk.

It was all they had time for. A massive crunch was heard and a twenty foot storm surge charged through the ships. They had no time before it hit. Maybe a minute. Everyone scrambled for the stairs to get to high ground, going for the stone turrets. Halli climbed up a two story wooden building. He had none of his weaponry on him and no armor. He wasn't scared of a little bit of water. Hurricanes were common for him. But obviously not for Avalon. The first wave impacted, easily overtaking the sand bags, but they held place, not sliding at all. The make shift wall busted leaks and some poorly fastened sections fell off and floated away. Water was flooding everywhere.

In the water, there was also something else. He only noticed it's shadow and it was gone pretty quickly. The first building fell shortly after, smashing into another. Falling buildings wasn't normally associated with hurricanes, but anything was possible. It was only the outskirts of the storm. They still had another storm surge to deal with, most likely higher than the first. ]

He had a feeling that this would not end well.

Shiasta was terrified. A few months ago a storm of this calibre would have provided her some minor discomfort, but trapped in a frail human body she was faced with the reality that she could very well die. And she didn't like it one bit. Her dress and the thin cloak she wore to ward off the weather were plastered to her skin, and the small woman shivered visibly with cold - and fear. With each swell the dragoness jumped, half-expecting the waters to seek her out in the crowd of refugees and sweep her away.

And this was only the beginning.

Infants wailed, men shouted, children keened as women tried to soothe them, and all around was the deafening crash of wind and water. If Shiasta didn't know any better, she'd swear it was the end of the world.
Maybe it was, and this was how it was all starting. This was a temperate climate after all, so why else would this land be beseiged by such a powerful hurricane?
She tried to push the thought from her mind. It wouldn't do her or anyone else good to have such doom and gloom rattling around her skull. She concentrated on helping the women with children and felt better after a few minutes. Well, at least she felt relatively better; it was a little difficult to feel chipper with 30 foot waves crashing into the parapet where you stood, stone or not.

Speaking of which...

First one, then two; Shiasta watched the massive stones slip from the mortar and disappear into the roiling sea. Then the whole structure lurched forward.
"J-Jump! EVERYONE!" Shiasta shouted as loudly as she could; her voice seemed to be barely above a whisper.
About half the gathered, including Shiasta, managed to jump away as the parapet abruptly tumbled into the waves. The rest were carried along with it.
Injuries of varying severity abounded among those who made the leap; Shiasta had landed on a pile of soggy sandbags, twisting her ankle, and counted herself lucky. And while many of them wandered about the immediate area in a daze, Shiasta's first thought was to find another high perch to survive the next swell.
It took some doing, but the dragoness managed to haul herself up a wooden structure a ways behind the barriers. She pulled herself to the top with a fair bit of grunting and groaning, cursing her weak human form as she practically dumped herself unceremoniously onto the roof.

She was a little surprised to see another man sharing her new perch, but offered him a small smile and little waggle of her fingers before her eyes locked onto the same thing as him: A dark shape prowling about just beneath the violent waves. Her blue eyes widened in shock and fear and she looked to the man for an explanation.

His being alone was quickly interrupted. A woman pulled herself over the lip of the building and nearly passed out where she was. He couldn't blame her. She didn't look to be the strongest of people. She must have caught site of the shadow as well, because she looked at him, either with fear of questioning in her eyes. He simply shrugged.

"Don't know what it is, but if we don't kill it, it's going to bring down every damn building in this sea market!" He looked over the rail once again. And saw what he didn't want to see. A writhing shadow, wrapping around the building they were standing upon. 'Why is it everytime I try to help people something big and nasty and hard to kill gets in the way?' He thought miserably as he started to bolt.

'Up, manners.' He remembered. He sprinted over to the woman, scooped her up and jumped to the next building over. He turned mid air and landed heavy on his back. It didn't bother him much.

"Excuse me ma'am, I shall not inflict myself upon you any further." He told her as stood, tipping an invisible hat her way. He went to the rail again. It disappeared. It left that building. A shout from the water. So it was a carnivore. Wonderful.

He stood, there thinking about what to do. There was always using his Godly powers to just kill it, but that was no fun. But if he waited to use them, people were going to die. Choices, choices. Fun or Life? And fun would win in the end. He just needed to find a weapon big enough to kill the beasty.

There was stealing the large support poles from the broken buildings, but that would take to long and need to be sharpened. He ran his hand over his now untamed and long hair. He needed a shave. His face had become hairy, to put it at best.

Shiasta's gaze remained fixed on the long, sinuous shadow, the dragon-woman frozen in place even as the shadow began to curl its form around the base of the building she and the man occupied.
But just as her heartrate doubled and she began to feel hazy, strong arms wrapped around her and abruptly yanked her to safety. Shiasta uttered a small squeak of surprise, but offered no resistance; but she did cringe in sympathy when the man landed heavily on his back, with her own weight crashing down on top of him.
"Oh my! Are you alr-" she began, but he was already back up, speaking, and making some gesture that she didn't understand. But before her confusion could become apparent, he was leaning over the rail to peer into the water.

Humans...

Don't forget that you're one of the weak, pink-skinned runts now too! came an irritating voice in the back of her mind.
Like she could forget.
Nothing drove the reality of her curse home like standing on a flimsy structure with a huge predator prowling about just underneath you. She'd never felt so helpless in all her long life. But what could she do? She had no fighting skills, and she had barely been able to climb a wooden scaffold! No, aside from getting in the way, there was absolutely nothing she could-

Wait.
A thought occured to her.
Her heart was pounding with terror, and adrenaline coursed through her veins... It could work.
Darting forward, Shiasta seized the strange man's arm and shouted at him, "Y-You! Hit me! Please!"
More than likely he was going to think she'd lost it completely.

He was about to leap over the rail and just electrocute the damn thing into the next realm, but he got an odd request. It wasn't every day that a female person would ask you to sock them in the face. There was probably more to this woman than the eye met. He let the magic flow and his hand became a conductor for more than a million volts of electric power.

"As you wish...", He said, looking over his shoulder and at her. Both hands were now electrified. He quickly shrugged her hand off. He came around with three swings.

The first was a face shot, mouth and lower nose with his right. Then came in the hefty lefty from under and up, slamming point into her gut and he brought his right back one more time and brought it back as a straight jab for the chest. He wasn't hitting very hard, but he did hit fast. And the electricity would have to be a factor. He turned to the rail quickly. Why she wanted to be hit, he did not know, but he hit her all the same. And he hated women beaters. He looked over the rail again, looking for the black mass.

[Sorry 'bout the shortness.]

Ok, when she'd asked the man to hit her, Shiasta had been expecting maybe a slap across the face; she sure as hell hadn't been expecting to have the ever-loving crap beaten out of her! And having your ass kicked as weak little human was no fun.
Still, it had the effect she'd been hoping for... a few minutes later.
At first, all the dragon-woman had been able to do was lay on the rooftop in a daze clutching her face and moaning. Then she felt it. It was only small at first, but as shock and fury flooded her system Shiasta felt the magical bonds binding her to her current form weaken, and strength returned to her limbs.
Shiasta let the rage wash over her, feeling it build in intensity until it felt like she had her own hurricane brewing in her skull. Whatever force was holding all that pressure couldn't take the strain, and in a sudden glorious release of pressure Shiasta's body was covered in a bright white light. The glowing humanoid form expanded upward and outward until the structure groaned beneath the sudden, unexpected increase in weight as a long serpentine tail, horned head and and vast wings grew from the growing mass of luminescence. Then the light winked out, and where a petite young woman had been only moments before now lay a red-scaled dragon the size of a small house. Black tiger-like stripes travelled down the beast's crimson body, along with a short, coarse mane. Thick black claws tipped each of her toes and a quartet of long black horns, at least a metre in length each, extended from the back of her skull.
Horse-like ears decorated with gold hoops flicked, and the dragoness' eyes opened slowly, revealing the deep sapphire eyes she'd had as a human.

With a grumble from deep within her broad chest, Shiasta slowly stretched out and rose to her feet. She eyed the man a bit disdainfully, but didn't take it any further than that; she had technically brought it on herself, after all. Still, she'd be feeling sore for a while.
But really, who cared! It had worked! It felt so good to be herself again that Shiasta nearly forgot why she'd taken a beating in the first place.
Her muzzle splitting into a grin, Shiasta ambled up beside the man and peered down into the waters below. "Are you ready?"
She would not be in her element, but she would be a hell of a lot more useful in a fight than she was minutes before.
