Alana sniffed the sea air at the Cape of Darkness. She could not help but be curious of people's interest of the landmass. Yes, it was somewhat soothing, and unsettling, at the same time. How odd. She felt as if she was the most important, and yet the most obscure, insignificant person alive.

She shivered a little bit at the warring thoughts and feelings. How odd. Strangely, she liked it. She walked out to the edge of the piece of land and plopped down to sit. She then flopped onto her back, staring up at the stars. She closed her eyes momentarily and thought. That kept her occupied for about two minutes before she got up.

Walking down into the edge of the surf, she tested the water, then lurched back. It was frickin' cold! She stared out at the ocean for a bit, then hardened her resolve. Walking back a few paces, she peeled off her shirt and pants, leaving them with her shoes. Taking a very deep breath, she closed her eyes, opened them, and ran into the water. She hit the ice cold water with a shriek of delight, and danced around in her soaked underwear, excited and enthralled by the rush both the cold and the feel of the water gave her. With a final high-pitched laugh, she dropped backwards and submerged herself, then allowed herself to float up and rest on the surface of the water.

Lonan sat near the water. As was customary to him, his shirt lay on the sand beside him. He had been curled up on the sand only hours ago in the form of an overgrown panther, however, as time had progressed, he had decided that the idea of getting his fur wet wasn't overly appealing to him. So rather than withstand the utterly embarassing prospect of prancing around looking like a drown rat, he had decided to take human form again.

He crossed one ankle over the other as he looked out at the scenery before him, intensely blue eyes taking in every detail and aspect about the land before him, until a flicker of movement caught his attention. Focusing in on it, he realized it was a person. Narrowing his eyes, he sat forward and watched as the person stripped themselves of their clothing and ran, full bore into the water. He couldn't help but raise his brow about that. The person seemed to be female.

Quirking the corner of his lips up into a smile, Lonan pushed himself up from his seat, forgetting about his shirt altogether, and made his way along the coast. He came to stop in front of the pile of discarded clothing. He inhaled deeply. The scent was feminine. He savored the scent for a moment, eyes closed, before opening them again and watching the curious woman a moment.

He chuckled as she began splashing and... frolicking and folded his arms across his broad chest before making his way to the water's edge.
"Having fun, are we?" He called to her, offering her a charming smile.

A burbled male voice made it's way to her, even through the water floating in and out of her ears. She jerked upright, then sat back down in the water. She didn't know why she bothered be so seflconscious, damn inconvenient as it was. Not really like she needed to be. Her underwear wasn't see-through, wet as it was, and she was built pretty well, nothing to be ashamed of. Her instincts from childhood were probably the only reason she had flinched. She quickly squashed her issues and stood up. She stared boldly back, smiling slyly. "As a matter of fact, it's a blast out here." She replied. "Why you come join me?"

Blowing past her cautions, she lifted her hand and crooked her finger at the man. This place made her feel so wild and yet cautious. But right now she didn't care. It had been a long time since she'd had any fun. "Come on! The water's fantastic!" She lied.

Lonan smirked at her and shook his head.
"I may be a man, but there are some things I'm not completely oblivious to, you know? For example, forgive my feline instincts here, but that water looks awfully damned cold to me." He said with another chuckle before shrugging. Cold or not, how could he pass up an open oppertunity to go for a swim with a lovely lady? He gave another laugh before pulling off his boots and tossing them on the ground, then pulling off his leather pants, revealing a pair of light, cotton ones beneath. Folding the pants, he placed them on top of his boots and then turned back to the water.

"Here's to freezing my ass off." He muttered as he made his way towards the water. As soon as his feet touched the water he was already having second thoughts. Was a woman really worth hypothermia? He took a moment to look up ahead at her and then wiped his doubts away. Oh hell yes, a woman was worth hypothermia.

He waded into the water until it was roughly waist deep and then dove in, head first, using his hands to cut through the water. He came up from the icy depths of the water only a few feet from the woman and offered her a smile.
"Lonan Hunter." He said, extending a hand towards her. "Nice to meet you."

Alana laughed at his response about the temperature of the water. Truthfully, she didn't even feel it anymore. She watched him as he waded out. He was built nicely, she thought. Muscular, but not so much that he looked obsessive about it. Dark, black hair and blue eyes clashed in the most interesting, amazing way. She was tracing the lines of his face in her mind when he dove under water, popping up a few feet from her.

He extended his hand and introduced himself. She shook it, then replied, "Alana Rierden. Nice to meet you too." She paused for a moment, unsure of what to say, how to act. Then she smiled. She came here to have a little fun. A person to play with wouldn't change her plans much. She stared up into his cerulean eyes and asked, "So, I know what's got me all the way out here, but what about you? What's your story?" As she spoke, she realized that she still hadn't let go of his hand. She mentally shrugged, waiting to see what he would do.

Lonan took a moment to look down at her hand, which he had neither released, nor had she made any action to release her hand from his grasp. He smoothed a thumb over the back of her hand before he caught himself and then gently released her hand before offering her a smile and contemplating her question. What was he doing out there? Trying to get drunk and forget the fact that he had abandoned his family when they had needed him the most?

His face turned sour for all of an instant before he caught himself and shrugged.
"Contemplating life's biggest questions? Taking a stroll along the beach? Going for a swim?" He said, quirking the corner of his lips up into another half smile. He shrugged a shoulder and then sighed contentedly.
"I, admitedly, found something much more enjoyable in the company of you though." He said as if it were a matter of fact.

Lonan's thumb brushed the back of her hand, then he suddenly let go. Her hand suddenly felt like it wasn't attached to her body anymore, a phantom limb so to speak. She pouted inwardly, having enjoyed his touch. His face suddenly turned sour, and she wondered if her was alright. Then he smiled, and answered her question, making her laugh as he complimented her.

Alana blushed at his statement, a first for her. But she couldn't help it. It was so cliche, but from Lonan, it seemed so right to hear, not stupid or cheesy at all. She smiled up at him. "You're sweet, you know that?" She reached up to trace a line of muscle on his arm with her finger. "I have to say, your showing brightened up my night." Her gaze changed from friendly to sultry and smooth as she flirted mildly.

Her train of thought was cut off as she heard a furious hiss from the shore. Knowing whatever Kairi was doing was bad, she turned and waded back to the shore. She came upon Kai, raised up and swaying back and forth dangerously, her fangs bared. "Kai, stop it!" Alana commanded, and the snake whipped around to look at her. Taking one look at her furious expression, the little adder snapped its mouth shut and slithered back to her owner. Alana reached down, allowing Kai to spiral her body up her arm. She brought the serpent to eye level. "What's up with you, girl? And where's Tikina?"

She looked past the snake, searching for the white ferret that almost never left her side. She spotted her, balanced up on her hind legs near Lonan's clothes. "Tiki! Come here girl." Tiki turned her head towards her owner, then blew her off and turned back the other direction, more interested in whatever had captured her attention. Alana began to walk towards her.

Lonan caught her flirtacious movements, and his lips quirked up in a smile once again. Her own compliments pleased him a great deal. At least someone seemed happy enough to be in Lonan's company. It seemed a rare treat these days. He was about to make another comment after her own compliments when she turned back to the shore and began.... berrating a snake. Lonan chuckled from behind her.

He watched curiously as the snake coiled around her arm and she brought it to eye level to ask it about a creature named "Tikina". Lonan allowed his eyes to wander over to his own clothing, where a ferret, who he mistook for Kayda was poking around his clothing. He looked a little closer at the ferret before realizing it wasn't Kayda at all. Lonan chuckled once more before wading a little closer to shore and letting out a whistle.
"Kayda, what mischeif are you gettijng yourself into?" He asked, a moment before a small, wiggling lump popped up from beneath his pant-leg. Shaking his head he stepped out of the water. He stopped a few paces away from the two ferrets and turned his attention to Tikina.
"Found a playmate, have you? I'll warn you though, Kayda's just as mischevious as I am." He said to the female ferret. He turned his attention back to the wiggling limp in his clothing and sighed. "Kayda, aim for the light and open air. You'll find your way out eventually."

The wiggling continued a few moments before a white head popped out from beneath Lonan's clothing. Kayda looked in Tikina's direction momentarily before gathering himselfg up and bolting for Lonan. Lonan reached down and picked Kayda up to plop him down on his shoulder.
"Kayda, meet Alana, Tikina and.... uhhh... snake." He said with another smile in Alana's direction.

Lonan walked over and scooped up a second ferret, placing it on his shoulder. Tikina, instead of returning to Alana, followed the second ferret. She pawed at Lonan's leg, begging to be lifted up to join her new friend. Alana rolled her eyes. Typical Tiki. Once she found something she liked, she didn't leave it alone.

Lonan introduced his ferret to them, then vice-versa, but stumbled over her serpent's name. "Kairi," Alana filled in. She stroked her fingers down Kai's length, until it started to twist. With her free arm, Alana snatched up Tiki, grabbing her by the scruff of her neck, and plopped her on her own shoulder. She stepped closer to Lonan, standing only about a foot away. Claws on her ear told her that Tiki had climbed on top of her head to be on the same level as Kayda, due to the height difference between Lonan and herself. She smiled, knowing she must look silly with a ferret on her head. Kai appeared to have gotten bored, and began to slide further up her arm and behind her neck, until she was twisted around just the top of Alana's right arm, and draped across her opposite shoulder.

Lonan watched as the other ferret pawed at his leg and he made a tsking sound.
"Now, now, Tikina, I think Alana might enjoy your company as much as Kayda would, hmm?" He said, looking down at the female ferret. He gave a chuckle and then turned his attention to the snake, now coiled around Alana's upper arm.
"My appologies to you, Kairi." He said. He took a moment to reach out with his mind towards the snake. Would you mind if I touched you, Kairi? Snakes have always been fascinating creatures to me, and I find you to be quite remarkable. He asked the creature. To Alana, it would look like little more than Lonan staring at the creature for a long period of time. As he awaited the snake's reply, leaving his mind open to her, he turned his attention back to Alana.

"Nice to see someone else has a natural magnetism towards animals. This little runt here-" He said, gesturing towards Kayda in a fashion that made it seem that the ferret was a long-time friend. "-seems to follow me around everywhere. Not that I mind, so long as he doesn't chatter my ear off." He said, cocking his head to the side to give the ferret a disapproving glance. "Perhaps Tikina can keep him occupied for at least a little while so I can think in peace. I should warn you thought Tikina, he was the runt of the litter." Lonan said jokingly, an instant before Kayda spun around on his shoulder and bit his earlobe.
"Ow! Kayda!" He yelped. The ferret sat on Lonan's shoulder, perched on his hind legs chittering in Lonan's ear.

Lonan scowled. "See what I mean? He's a chatterbox!" Kayda gave one final squeak and then lept off of Lonan's shoulder, landing on the ground behind him and waddling over to Alana's side. He perched on his hind legs again and looked up at Alana to Tikina. Lonan smiled down at Kayda.
"I think he's ready to play, now that he's done hiding in my pants and being all shy." He said with a smile aimed at Alana.

Kairi swiveled her head to look at Lonan, drawing Alana’s eyes to her pet. She noticed Lonan’s gaze on her snake, and Kai’s new attention for a stranger. While she was considering how odd it was for Kai to even notice any human but herself, she was forced to snap out of it. Lonan was speaking to her again. She shrugged.

“I just sort of get what they want. I’m not sure whether you can call that magnetism or not.” She perked up when he mentioned Kayda following him around. “Oh, now that’s something I understand.” She scooped Tikina up and hugged her gently to her cheek. “This one wouldn’t leave me alone! She followed me everywhere. It was such a pain.” She kissed the ferret’s nose gently. Tiki looked at her, then licked her Alana’s nose. She smiled. “I love her to death. Don’t know how I got along without her.” Kai hissed, flicking her tongue out, making Alana laugh. “Nor without you, my beautiful girl.”

She looked up at Lonan again, who continued on talking about Kayda. Apparently, Kayda didn’t like what was being said, as he sank his teeth into Lonan’s earlobe, then began chittering at him, almost as if scolding him. Alana tried to not laugh as Lonan played it off, but she didn’t do a very good job of it. Kayda jumped to the ground, waddling over to her side to look up at Tikina. She set her down on the ground. “Now Tiki,” she teased. “Play nice, right? And don’t tease too much.” She winked at her ferret, watching as the little fuzzball darted off, then looked back at Kayda over her shoulder as if saying, “You coming or what?”

Alana smiled. "I think he's ready to play, now that he's done hiding in my pants and being all shy." She glanced up as Lonan spoke, finding his gaze intently on hers. Catching a double meaning, she had to struggle to hide the rising flush in her cheeks. She smiled, half-cautious, half-sly, as she took another step towards him. Kairi continued her slide across her skin, crawling up, over, and around Lonan’s neck, perching as she had on Alana. Alana paused a moment, mildly worried that Lonan wouldn’t like it. She left the question unspoken, though she was sure her eyes asked it just fine.

Lonan was too caught up conversing with Alana and smirking at Kayda to act on his previous inquiry towards Kairi, but he didn't put the snake completely out of his mind. She was a magnificant creature, after all. Lonan found himself drifting along that thought process. What would Alana do if she were to find out that Lonan himself was part animal? Would she find it completely distasteful, or would she actually enjoy that fact? He found himself focusing on her eyes more intently than he would have liked to, and he quickly looked away.

He had caught her blush at his double-meaning, but chose not to press the issue any further. He didn't want to completely drive the poor girl away. His attention was briefly stolen by Kayda and Tikira as they chittered and scampered around in their play. He seemed lost in thought as he watched them. He was, however, a little shocked when she actually took a step closer to him, and even moreso when the snake that had wrapped itself so comfortably around her body, transfered itself to his.

He smiled at the snake and ran the back of his hand along her scales, giving the snake the oppertunity to brush up against him as she moved.
"See, men aren't as smelly as most people say now, are they Kairi?" He asked, giving Alana a sidelong glance and a playful wink. He took a moment to examine Alana for a moment. She seemed a little worried about something, and rather than Lonan chalking it up to the fact that she was worried about the snake being unwelcome, he instead thought it was because she thought him completely insane.

Lonan gave her a guilty look.
"I know I'm not exaclty your run-of-the-mill man. What with the whole talking to animals thing." He said, absently waving a hand in a gesture that suggested he was slightly insane. "I can, however, promise you that there's never a dull moment around me." He tilted his head to the side and watched her a moment. "I know, I'm rambling. But hey, do you like cats?" He asked with a hopeful grin.

Alana smiled as Lonan teased her. She glanced at the 6-inch scar on Kairi's hide as the man's fingers ran over it. She'd been quite pleased, both with her handiwork a month ago and Kai's recovery, but sometimes she worried if it had healed right.

Alana giggled as Lonan spoke to Kairi. He winked at her, making her grin broaden. She'd almost gotten discouraged when he'd averted his gaze earlier, thinking he'd begun to have second thoughts about her company, but his flirtatious attitude made her forget about that. Playfully, she leaned forward, setting her hands on his chest for balanced. She placed her nose in the sensitive hollow between his ribs and collarbone and took a long sniff. Barely coming away from him, she tilted her head up to meet his gaze, her own eyes shining brightly with excitement.

"Now, who says you're smelly?" she asked, repeating the movement she has just done a moment ago. "You smell perfectly fine to me, if a bit salty, but we can blame the ocean for that."

Lonan's expression became one of guilt, startling Alana into silence as he spoke. When he finished, she shook her head. "I talk to my animals all the time. Sometimes I think it's all that keeps me sane."

The next question made her remember something. "Yeah, actually, I love cats. A while back, I had actually considered buying a tiger, but I decided against it, as I didn't have the funds or the time to train it. I ended up settling on a black panther kitten, but when I went to purchase it, he was gone. The next shipment for big cats wouldn't have even come in for 6 months. Oh, now I'm rambling. Why do you ask?"

Lonan was slightly taken aback as the female leaned in towards him. He tilted his head to the side and watched her as she lay her hands on his chest. He clentched his teeth when she leaned in closer to keep himself from groaning out loud. He relaxed his facial expression as she pulled away and offered her a grin instead. He shrugged a shoulder nonchallantly at her comment about him smelling like salt.
"Well, on the bright side of things, if I were to be caught by some wandering giant, he could easily pick me up and plop me into a cook pot. He wouldn't even have to worry about seasoning me." He said with another charming smile.
"However, I have to admit that I'm very relieved to hear that you don't find me smelly." He finished up.

Lonan looked uneasy when she made her comment about talking to animals all the time. He ran a hand over his jaw and shook his head.
"Thats, uhhh... not exactly what I'm refering too." He admited. He seemed to ponder over the intelligence of telling her this bit of information, but decided that it would end up coming out sooner or later. Might as well get his little secrets out into the open ahead of time to see whether or not they would chase her away.

"I can actually communicate with animals. Look into their minds and 'hear' what they're thinking. I can communicate my own thoughts and wishes to them as well." He admited, trying to guage her reaction. "And it's funny, your little story about a panther there ties in with this in a way. It also ties in with my reasoning for asking how you felt about big cats." He paused again and tried to play it off like it didnt matter overly much.

"My ability to communicate with animals comes from what I am. Across the sea, there's a small tribe of Lycanthrops that have ancient blood running through them that dates back to a clan with the abilities to communicate with animals, such as I can." He explained, wondering if she would catch on to what he was saying. "I'm part of the tribe and one of the last existing members of it." He offered her a fake grin. "You may not have gotten your baby panther, but you sure have found yourself a full-grown panther." He said, tilting his head to the side and offering her a half smile.

Alana’s smile grew even broader when she felt the struggle for control in Lonan at her antics. Her delighted laugh at his joke was sobered when she began to sense his uneasiness. She tilted her head a bit as he explained.

She listened quietly as he spoke, thinking, “Able to understand animals? I’d kill for that ability! Wait, what?”

His comment about her panther story made her pause in thought. She heard the apprehension in his tone, and took his left hand in her right, intertwining their fingers, offering comfort and support. She smiled warmly as he spoke, keeping the soft grin in place even through her mild confusion. When her finished his little tale, the exhilaration inside Alana, compounded with Lonan’s cute little half-smile and head tilt, made her want to wrap her arms around him. Or better yet, kiss him. It was such a silly excitement, over such a little thing, and it had been building up since she’d met the guy. But the real spike to her enthusiasm was the realization that her opinion of this matter actually meant something to him. And that realization made her heart thrum rapidly.

As Kairi, seemingly having gotten bored with the lack of attention, slithered off both their bodies, Alana’s left hand moved. Cupping Lonan’s cheek in her palm, she crooned softly, “Awww, were you worried about my response?” Her right hand gently squeezed his left as she rose up on her toes to try and level off with him. She still barely came up to his eyes. Tilting her head back to look into his cobalt blues, Alana smiled softly, “You don’t have to be anxious about telling me anything. I understand, and I think what you are only makes you more amazing in my eyes.”
