Maero found a perfect and incredibly deadly way to train. True, while he was a jewel sorcerer, he was fascinated with blades. Soon he had learned to conjure up a sword, at times a random blade. Of course, his swords were mostly magical but were solid enough to be wielded. The problem is that his works were not that strong yet and thus they usually break. He was now out to test out and train how much he can work out and if he can strengthen his blades into a formidable durability. That and practice a bit of swordsmanship as well. Insect Isle was so named because a colony of man-sized insects supposedly lived there. Despite having been warned against it, Xue Jian had come, hoping to see if there was any truth to the stories he'd heard. He knew it was dangerous to come alone, but it wouldn't be the first time he'd taken a risk in the name of exploration. He walked slowly, his eyes scanning in all direction for anything of interest, but for a quite some time, nothing out of the ordinary appeared. That is, until he encountered a young, red-haired man engaged in a very familiar activity. The man was training, and if Xue Jian wasn't mistaken, he was attempting to wield a spirit sword! It struck him as amazing that of all the things to run into on this remote island, he'd find another spirit sage like himself, or at least, something similar. Feeling a sort of kinship for the young man, he announced himself and approached. Not wanting to startle the stranger, he stopped close enough to be heard but far enough away as to not appear threatening. "Ho there! My name is Xue Jian, and I come in peace!" |

"Trigger off..." Maero muttered some sort of enchantment but it really was more of a hypnotic word. Words he tells himself so he can focus more on what he was doing. That word was prompting him to gather the magical energy instead of releasing it like a burst and let it take shape. Yes, it was taking shape now. When he heard someone, he was startled and surprisingly, the blade formed a curved short sword. It shock, he had thrown the blade towards the direction of the voice. Of course, he had missed by a couple of feet and the blade hit rock, causing it to shatter like glass. "Who's there?" |

The moment he called out to the man, a spirit blade in the shape of a curved short sword flew his way. Xue Jian immediately prepared himself to dodge, but he quickly realized that there was no need. The flying blade smashed itself into a nearby rock and vanished, eliciting a raised eyebrow from Xue Jian. The man must have been startled from his training, since there was no follow up attack, and judging from the looks of it, he was still working on his control. "Who's there?" The man asked. "Just a traveler. One who has something in common with you," Xue Jian replied, extending his right arm out to the side and pointing with the first two fingers of his right hand. The sword strapped to his back glowed briefly, then a ghostly replica of it appeared and flew off in the direction he'd pointed. He then swung his arm forward and bent his elbow, pointing his fingers skyward. The spirit sword responded by turning point down and flying around him in a circular orbit. "As I said before, my name is Xue Jian. What are you called, stranger? Are you a Spirit Sage as well?" |

Ah, the man was no threat. He was focusing too much that he had thought the man's voice was a bit of buzzing sound and assumed that a bug had come for him. The man had the same...or at least similar ability with him. Sword projection. He bowed his head and apologized realizing he had sent an attack at the man. "I apologize for my attack. I am Maero Vesica. I am no spirit sage but I am a jewel sorcerer. What would be your purpose in this island?" |

"There's no need for apologies, Mr. Vesica. I am the one that surprised you," Xue Jian replied politely, disappointed that the man was not a Spirit Sage, but at the same time intrigued by his title of Jewel Sorcerer. Maero asked him what his purpose was, so he answered, "I have never been to this island before, so you could say that I am simply exploring. I did not mean to disturb your training." If Maero wasn't a Spirit Sage, then perhaps his ability, while similar to Xue Jian's, worked differently. Xue Jian was immediately curious and wanted to find out what the differences might be. "If you don't mind my asking, would you tell me how your flying blade spell works? In return I will share some of my Spirit Sword methods with you." |

Training. Ah, yes, that was his purpose here. Then, it would be the same as his. Though, he couldn't really tell if this was as dangerous as people say. Finding someone else with you on training gives you the idea that the place is a famous training ground. "Spirit sword?" Maero raised an eyebrow as he asked the man. "I do not know of such thing. I merely know of what I've studied as Trigger Replicas. I coined the term myself but it's only a name. I do not know what the magic is called." |

"This is a spirit sword," Xue Jian replied, gesturing to the weapon still levitating around him. Now that he was put on the spot, he wasn't entirely sure how to explain it to someone who'd never heard of a spirit sword before. It had seemed perfectly natural to him when his grandfather first told him about it, but judging from the look on the man's face, it probably sounded very strange to Maero. "You could call it a sort of magic, although in truth it is more like a part of my spirit made tangible. As you can see, in appearance at least, it is not that different from the weapon you threw at me earlier. Was that what you meant by Trigger Replica?" |

He saw what the man had meant by a spirit sword and he can already tell the difference. The man's blade was of magical properties while his was of physical attributes. However, his was easy to break and was useless against corporeal creatures, whereas the spirit blade would be very effective against those types of things. "The difference is between magical and physical," Maero told him as he outstretched his left arm forward. His right hand had latched on to his left arm as if for support. "Trigger off!" The same self hypnotic words came out of his mouth. A spark appeared and a flash of light in his hands before it faded. A large rivet edge was in his hands and was larger than him. Yet, he seemed to have no trouble with it. Strangely, the blade shattered like glass and disappeared. "My blades are physical and break after one use. However, they are capable of at least one strong attack before they break." |

Xue Jian watched Maero's demonstration intently, finding the similarities and differences between their abilities intriguing. His spirit sword lasted as long as his stamina could hold out and did not break no matter how hard it was hit, but it did have disadvantages. While it could deal damage to physical beings, the weapon itself was not physical and hence was subject to being resisted, even completely ignored by certain powerful beings, although he had not encountered such a being as of yet. Maero also seemed to be able to form different types of weapons, which was a feat Xue Jian had never even thought to try. It was definitely something worth considering though. Before he could comment on the jewel sorcerer's demonstration, he caught a faint buzzing sound and turned slowly around, trying to find the source. "Do you hear that, Mr. Vesica?" |

A short buzzing soon turned into a loud noise. Many. There were many of these bugs now surrounding them. Soon, they had come into view. They really were huge. From his point of view, they looked like gigantic green wasps. Oh, it seems that his training is about to commence. "Shall we start?" Maero asked the man, who he assumed to want to train as well. "Trigger off!" The same white curved blade that he had thrown earlier had appeared in his hands. Of course, it was not a blade he uses mostly for swinging. With a slight swing, he had sent the blade flying and crashing into one of the thorax of the bugs. The blade shattered and caused a small explosion but not much harm seemed to be done. "Uh oh." |

With the appearance of the swarm, Xue Jian's expression grew serious. So this was how the island got its name it seemed. Maero spoke of them beginning something, and Xue Jian finally realized why the man had come. He was going to use the bugs to test out the effectiveness of his Trigger Replicas. The Jewel Sorcerer started things off by throwing a curved blade at one of the bugs, scoring a direct hit. As the man had explained, the weapon shattered on impact, but the damage didn't seem to be all that great. Maero noticed this as well and muttered, "Uh oh", in his dismay. Xue Jian shared that sentiment as well. If Maero couldn't kill the bugs, then Xue Jian was going to have to do it by himself, and that meant they were going to have to change battlefields. They could not afford to remain out in the open where they would continue to be surrounded. When faced with superior numbers, find a choke point. He spun around and scanned the area for a suitable place and quickly found one. A large outcropping of rock jutted out of the ground some distance away. At least there, they could cover their backs somewhat. It would be quite the run, but he thought they could make it as long as they didn't dally. "Mr. Vesica, let's run for that outcropping," he said, pointing directly at it. "We'll make our stand there. I'll clear a path for us. You cover our backs. Try aiming your Replicas at their legs or their wings. That might slow them down long enough for us to find some cover." Without waiting for the man to reply, Xue Jian started to run, sending his spirit sword ahead of them. Instead of flying straight like an arrow, he directed the weapon to spin pommel over blade like the spokes of a wheel, making it look more like a saw blade than a sword. Some of the bugs moved to block their escape, but the spinning spirit sword instantly cut any in their path to ribbons. Still more bugs followed from behind, while others raced with them on either side. It was going to be one harrowing chase. |

It seems like this bugs had a thick armor sort of plating on their thorax. Most likely a tough carapace to hide the soft mushy part underneath it. Though, their wings seemed to sprout from behind them and from an uncovered part of their flesh so that may be their weak spot instead. He had heard the man's suggested and followed suite as they headed for a better place to defend themselves. "Their weak point is their back," Maero glimpsed one last time at the swarm before getting into a good vantage point for sniping those bugs with some of his blades. Well, it wasn't really a snipe of sorts but it was a long range fight. "Trigger off!" A beautiful white curved blade flew once again to the bug and was deflected by the carapace. It soon, however, curved back like a boomerang and made a small explosion when it hit the bug's backside. The bug lost altitude and fell down to the ground hard. |

Having reached the outcropping, the pair of magical blade wielders took shelter amongst the rocks. Thanks to the cover provided by the outcropping, the bugs could only approach them through a relatively narrow cone in one direction. It wasn't a perfect choke point, as the bugs could still descend upon them from the sky, but at least they wouldn't be attacked from all sides now. Maero pointed out the bugs weak point, throwing an experimental Trigger Replica at one and grounding it. "Good shot," Xue Jian complimented Maero, then followed the jewel sorcerer's example, directing his spinning spirit sword to fly through a group of approaching bugs, cutting off their wings before they could get close enough to attack, but another group of bugs came in from another angle. The spirit sword would not be able to come back around quickly enough. Pointing at them, he called out to Maero, "There! Another group incoming!" |

"With pleasure," Maero was enjoying the way this training was. It seemed as if he was improving in the way he was projecting the swords. He expected another curved blade but what he got was a broadsword of a blue hilt. That was enough of a distraction for a bug to get near him. Crap. He didn't know how to wield it! All he knew was making them and letting them be wielded by themselves. Suddenly, his hand moved for a downward slash at the bug, a gigantic wasp that attacked him. The moment the sword sliced upon the creature, it created some sort of wave that burst out from the back of the bug, ensuring that it was sliced neatly in two. |
