Lonan shifted uncomfortably where he sat. Here was a topic of conversation that most people were curious about but never wanted to hear the answers to. People tended to dislike any negativity another person found in them. They also tended to dislike it when a person who was almost a complete stranger pegged them so vividly for what they were. He shrugged a shoulder. She had asked, he would answer, regardless of what she wanted to hear. He opened up his mind to her, focusing intently on the woman. He could do it, but it took a great deal of concentration for him to mindspeak to a human in his own human form. Perfecting it would take years and years and Lonan hadn't had enough time to work with it to advance to that stage yet. He got only brief flickers of images and fragmented thoughts skimming through her head, but he managed to piece a few things together, mainly the things that were in the forfront of her mind. "What I'm getting from you... is that while you want your father's respect, you don't entirely agree with his methods and ways all the time. You try hard and work harder, and still don't get the recognition you deserve. You're confused about what I am and what I imply." He paused a moment and looked up at her. "But you know, I dont even need my own added ability to be able to tell certain things about you. The way you move, subtle gestures you make. They're all parts of what make you who you are. You're tense right now, still unsure. Your eyes seem to take everything in, the slightest shift of a shadow. It tells me that you're used to being on your guard quite frequently." He said. He paused again and looked up at her, his lips curving up into a brief smile. "Am I making you uncomfortable yet? Most people hate the scrutiny of others." He murmured. |

Angelicia was surprised that he replied to her question. Her facial features remained undisturbed from their pondering expression. Lonan was turning out to be refreshing. Being wither brothers who often told her what she wished to hear, and a father that often wish for silence then to hear her prattle on endlessly. Lonan was indeed different. Perhaps she was jumping the gun for they had only met this day. ~Give it time~ echoing in her head. Her body became rather silent as Lonan started his analysis of her. The soft touch of thought drifted into her own head. She furrowed her brow and tilted her head to the side. There was that same nauseating feeling again. ~What is that? ~ It was the same feeling she got earlier when on the horse. It sickened her then, but this time it was not as intense. Angelicia was at times a light touch. She often flew off the handle at times without much thought as to the reason why. Being red haired only contributed to her attitude in these regards. Her form remained still as she listened to him. She would listen to him, if there were something she did not like she would let him hear it. Though that was possibly Lonan’s point of doing what she asked of him. Simply to prove his point in regards to her personality and attitude. She felt her back stiffen, and her mood shift. Her express was devoid of any emotion; she simple studied the back of Lonan’s head. He was entirely right, and she did not like it. Anyone could see that she tried to please her father; it was the fact that he had yet to be satisfied by anything Angelicia had done. His second observation took her by surprise. She cleared her throat and then forced herself to cough as she listened on. Her gaze drifted off as he continued. She did not like this at all. His insight was rather annoying, or at least that was what she told herself. Though it was not Lonan, it was herself. He was right in regards to her and her father. She would remain silent as he continued. When he turned about and faced her, it was then that her thoughts returned to him. She could not help but blush under his gaze. Just knowing that he paid any attention to her caused her skin to redden. Thank the gods that this cave was dark. Just knowing that he knew these things troubled her. But it was his gaze that challenged her. ~Am I making her uncomfortable~ Her cool green orbs remained fused upon his face, though the shadows hide her well enough, she was certain he was reading more then she cared for him to know. “No, should it?" He smiled knowingly at the woman in front of him. Again, he had picked up the tell-tale signs of her uncomfort, even in the dark. He didn't need to look too closely to see her spine stiffen and give her a little added height in the darkness. He had unnerved her and he knew it all too well. He shrugged a thick shoulder and folded his arms over his chest, though the smile didn't fade from his lips. "No, I suppose not, then." He said, though his tone wasn't mocking in the least. It was, however, evident that he knew exactly just how uncomfortable she was. "Just an observation on my behalf, however, if you had pegged me as damned well as I know I just pegged you, I'd be telling you to go shove your observations where the sun doesn't shine. The fact that you haven't, is really quite remarkable and makes me respect you all the more in actuality." He confessed as he watched her for another moment. He lay himself out on the ground there, pillowing his head on his arms, which he folded beneath it casually. The night was wearing on, and it was time for them to catch some sleep if they wanted to be up and out of there in time before the scouts were out and about there to get to the mysterious giant panther. Lonan knew well enough that the other men wouldn't leave town again before dawn broke and they had a little light with which to navigate, which meant that so long as Lonan and Angelicia were out of the cave at roughly the same time, the men in town would miss them by a long shot. "We should rest now, Angelicia, if you can manage it. We need to be off bright and early in the morning." He said as he considered it. "Well, actually, we need to be awake again before the sun even rises once more, but you catch my drift." |

His words seemed to strike her to the core. He was very good at this perception game, if one wished to call it that. Torvald her cousin was good at it, as was her eldest brother, perhaps that was how she was unable to get away with anything. That and the fact that she pretty much wore her emotions on her sleeves. Her anger in her eyes, frustration in her lips, anguish across her brows. She was an open book to those that could read her. And Lonan was doing a very good job, a very good job indeed. Taking extra care, she angled herself to the side and curled herself into the blanket. Sleep was a good plan, the best plan that would get her away from Lonan’s keen insight. Judgement never sat well with Angelicia regardless if it was good or bad. She lowered her head to that back of her hands. “Yes, sleep of probably the best. If it is to be an early morning.” She felt that this would possible turn the conversation off and she would not have to answer to anything he had observed. Sleep was possibly going to be near impossible, or so she felt. Lonan had her thoughts racing and she did not sleep well in that case. She took a deep breath and tried her best to relax, and possibly fall asleep. She knew that she had more important and pressing matters to think upon, like her father’s hand in Lonan’s village. So why did Lonan’s words trouble her as they did. She curled her left leg up toward her torso, forgetting for a moment about her wound. She groaned and then stretched her leg back out. It would be near impossible to get comfortable. Oh if they had a bottle of strong mead she could drink the pain away, and sleep it off. |

Lonan scarecely slept through the night, constantly being jarred awake by any miniscule sound that came from beyond the entrance of the cave. He was wary, and rightfully so. He took the threat of someone coming along to kill him for his pelt as quite a serious threat. It wouldn't be the first time. He had had close friends and family even that had been murdered in cold blood for their pelts, and the poachers that did the murdering didn't even know that they had got their hands on a lycan rather than a real animal. When morning finally came and Lonan could hear the faint chirping of birds beyond the cave entrance sound, he stirred from his sleep and sat up, taking a moment to run his hands through his hair. He didn't feel rested at all, and he doubted that the women sharing the cave with him didnt feel any better in that respect. Even still, he gathered up his belongings and what they needed and tucked it all back into the saddlebags from the horses they had stolen. Finally, he turned his attention back to the woman who, was no doubt awake by now, unless she slept like the dead. He cocked his head to the side. "Time to get a move on, Angelicia." He rumbled in a voice that was still scratchy from sleep. He cleared his throat and then nodded towards her injury. "Feeling any better at all?" He asked. |

A cave was hardly the type of place that one such as Angelica would ever think to find herself sleeping in. though she had slept in a tree, due to the large bear that had chased her up it, no thanks to her brother who had stolen his honeycomb. Little did she realize that the bear could climb the tree, though he hadn’t, she was a little taken back at the fact it could have. The cave floor was hard and uncomfortable. Her wound had bleed from her stirring and trying to get comfortable. When she finally woke having given up on sleep entirely, she sat up examining the bandage. It would need changing. She had glanced a few times over to Lonan noting that he was having just as much trouble sleep as she was, thought probably due to the same reasons. The chirping of birds beyond the cave entrance hit off the walls and reverberate deeper into the cave. She furrowed her brow and turned upon her blanket and regards Lonan as he got himself up and started to see to his things. He appeared to be in a great hurry this morning. Angelica was certain the sun was only just rising. But she did not wish to angry him any further then she had already annoyed him, and she did not wish to do it any further. She moved to push herself up so that she could stand. Using the wall to aid her as she finally managed the feat. Her brow was a little sweat from the excursion. Her forearm came across her brow and brushed across she brow as she moved to gather what items she had taken out of the saddlebags. Better long she would be packed and ready to go. ~Time to go ~ She looked down at her side when he asked how she was feeling. “It’s good. The bandage needs changed. Other then that it’s a good field dressing. Thank you.” She then turned to take up the blanket from the cave floor. Taking great pains to be careful in shaking it free of dirt and twigs. She did not know if he would wish to help her again, so she felt that she could last until they got to his hometown or she got home to change the bandages. She was sure that Lonan would argue her to change them now, but she would not press the matter with him. He looked in need to leave here. |

Lonan had a moment of indecision. He could tell her to wait to change the bandages and risk infection, and thus, potentially her life if they didn't get to a healer in time, or he could take a few damned minutes out of his hectic schedual to see to her needs before he pushed her on. He sighed, knowing it was a courtesy he could afford her. It would be a rough day ahead of them, and he needed to make sure that she was sturdy enough to withstand it. They needed to be as far from the cave as they possibly could be, as soon as they possibly could be. He set the pack down on the ground again and rummaged through it, pulling out the makeshift poultice he had ground out last night and the torn up tunic he had used already as a set of makeshift bandages. "Let's get you taken care of before we go off. I'd rather take a few extra minutes to look after it now than have to stop halfway out in the middle of nowhere and see to it." He said as he tore another strip off the tunic to use as another bandage. He shook it out and held it up. "Are you going to need a hand with that again?" He asked, severly doubting that she'd be able to tie the bandage around her torso without screaming out in pain or tearing the stitches out altogether, but it was another courtesy he offered her, letting her know that he wasn't going to trounce in on her personal space where he wasn't welcome. "I dont want to be stuck around here when those men come back with poachers looking for the hyde of a giant black panther. Unfortunatly, I'm just as suseptable to an arrow in the chest as the next man is, even in cat form." He said with a shrug of his shoulder as he prepared the poultice. At the very least, she'd need him to apply it and make sure the wound was properly seen to before it was bandaged up once again. |

She stopped what she was doing and turned to Lonan. She noticed the look upon his face. He was already annoyed with her. How did she manage that? She turned and made her way over to where he was standing. Rummaging through his saddlebag for the other bandage he had prepared the night before. She would not wish nor dream of holding him up along the road to his village. Making her way toward him, she drew the edge of the shirt he had given her and pulled it up to reveal the bandage he had tied in place the night before. She turned her head to the side to avert her gaze from him while he tended to her. The bandage was a little bloody from her movements during the night. It could not be helped for she was sleeping on a hard stone floor within a cave. “You don’t like me very much do you?” She was being frank with him, more so then she had been before. The song and dance seemed to be over, now was time to be straight to the point. “I don’t blame you. Seeing how I forced you to steal my father’s horses and flee the city under fire of his guards. The take up here in a cave only to have a few guards find you. You chase them away therefore revealing to me what you truly are. Yes, I can see how you would not like me. Oh and to be on my father’s bad side. Did I miss anything?” |

Lonan watched the way she moved. He had been too short tempered with her and he hadn't really meant to be. He sighed, silently cursing himself for his pigheaded attitude. Even still, he silently went to work stripping the bandage away and then rubbing the salve back over the wound, gently working it along the seam of the stitches before wrapping a fresh makeshift bandage around her torso. He nodded at his work and was just about finished with the bandage when she spoke up again, catching him completely off-guard. He considered her words a moment, but then shook his head. "I'm sorry if I gave off the impression that I don't like you. I just don't like being under pressure like this. I'm usually a very relaxed, easygoing person, but I step up to plate when I need to. I just don't like the stress of the situation." He considered it a moment. "I suppose it's true that I owe a great deal of this situation to you, but my hot-headed attitude earlier is what got you into all of this." He shrugged a shoulder. Finally, he finished retying the bandage before stepping away from her and then nodding. "Alright, we're all set. Regardless of my personal disliking for this whole situation, I know we're in this together now, and I'm going to try my damnedest ot be a little more even tempered with you. I'm sorry." |

Her gaze slowly came to Lonan. Taking note of the way that he shifted and then his own silence. She had not meant for him to take her words to heart. She deserved what he gave she would not argue that much. Her own face contorted when he rubbed the salve upon the wound. “That smarts.” She felt she could at least carry a causal conversation with him if any. Since she had remained standing, she was able to twist about in order to enable him to place the bandage about her wound and tie it off. It did not matter to Angelicia what Lonan thought of her. He was entitled to what he felt as she was. Her gaze lingered for a time upon the space between them as he helped change her bandage. She would remain as silent as possible. Which was a great feat for her. What did it matter to her if anyone liked her? She was troublesome, so her father often told her. She shrugged to his reply. “It’s a question is all? Sometime you give people reasons to dislike you.” She wished she could take it back. She felt her checks burn with heat. She was good at the stressful situations, especially placing people in them. Though she was just as good at getting herself out of them. She was a smart girl, her only problem being she was opinionated. She would listen to him and slowly turn to prepare her horse. |

Lonan looked back at the woman, a little curious as to what her reactions to his words would be, but again, she surprised him by remaining completely silent. He had a feeling that it was something that she didn't normally do, and he couldn't help but watch her a moment. Just when he thought he had her completely figured out, she'd go and do something else to throw him off-balance. He wasn't sure if she was doing it on purpose now that she knew just how perceptive he was, or if she did it unintentionally as a safeguard for herself. He looked away again and then began leading his horse outside. He paused at the entrance of the cave and took a moment to inhale the morning air deeply. Of course, he was searching for any signs of hunters or other human activity, but so far, there was no sign of any such things. He nodded and then tugged his horse out into the dimly lit morning. He had no doubt that it wouldn't be long before the hunters were searching for the black panther. All they would find were human and horse tracks. They might even think that a hunter from a rivaling village had already found the animal and killed it. It would suit him just fine if they thought that. Lonan lead the woman out into the morning and headed towards the village he had once called home. Now it was nothing but a ramshackle excuse for a community. A group of people who had suffered much at the hands of criminals. He sighed at the distant and fond memories he had of home. Of the thoughts of his mother and father. He caught himself daydreaming and quickly pulled his mind back from those thoughts. He needed to remain vigilant if he was going to keep the two of them alive long enough to reach the town. "Alright. We shouldn't be too long getting there, but be on the lookout. Let me know if you see anything that raises concern." He said calmly and softly over his shoulder. |

She followed Lonan out of the cave and into the morning light. She would squint upon first light, having been in the darkness for a good many hours. Her fingers curled about the led, while her free hand caressed the side of the horse’s mane. She nuzzled her brow against the horse and uttered a few words to calm the horse. The crisp morning air filtered through the area as they started to make their way beyond the cave. It would take some doing to get herself upon the back of her horse, but she would manage. The wound was tightly wrapped, and she had best to press on regardless of her state. The cool breeze was a surprise coming out of the warmth of the cave. Who would have thought a cave could be so warm. Angelica was use to sleeping in the strangest of places, but never did she for go the comfort of heat, warm clothing and fires. Though the mornings she could do without. The bitterness of the chilled air, she could leave it. Following Lonan as he started their trek onward to his village. She was curious if they would reach it by noon or nightfall. She was hoping that her concern would not come off as her need for comfort then for answers. For answers was what she was seeking here. She could not have come if it weren’t the case. She wondered if Lonan had that thought it his head. Her gaze traveled along the back of his head while she remained behind him. When the path widened and she was able to get her horse to trot along side him, she would venture a green eye in his direction. It was during this that she noted the lost expression. It was obvious that he was thinking of his home. Those lost looks she knew well. She would turn her gaze for a time, only so not to interrupt him. It was refreshing to see that he was in fact thinking of his family and his home. Making him appears humble, or at least she thought so. “All right.” She replied to his statement about remaining alert. She would let her gaze leave him and travel about the area that they now traveled within. What could possibly await them here? She knew that it was a silly thought, but Lonan had reason to speak so. And she knew she must obey him in this regard. Her green eyes scanned the tree line and then area surrounding them. She was a good hunter and would not lax upon her skill for no reason, even if she knew that they were safe. Until they reached his village she would act the hunter that she was. |

Lonan glanced back at Angelicia, who was taking her position as a travelling companion quite seriously. He reckognized a keen eye when he saw one, and knew that Angelicia was watching her surroundings like a professional would have. Perhaps she was a professional. Lonan considered that for a moment before turning back to survey his surroundings again before he spoke up and explained his caution. "My brother told me that since the first raid on our village and the fact that the villagers had been killed so easily and had offered little resistance, the area has been known as a safe crossing path for bandits and thieves of the sort." He turned again towards her. "It's something else you might want to mention to your father." He said. There was no condemnation in his tone, but it was a fact. "The last thing we need is a complication of finding ourselves confronted with a group of greedy bandits. I'd prefer to avoid that course of events at all costs." He murmured as he continued to scan the area. He could smell the scent of men in the area behind them when the wind picked up. The guards had returned with a group of poachers, no doubt. He sighed at the greed and want of men. "The guards are back at the cave. We can only hope that they assume the panther was killed by another group of poachers. They'll see our horse's hoofmarks leading away from the cave and hopefully will assume the panther dead." He said with a shrug of his shoulders. He should have taken care to create artificial drag-lines along with the horse's hooves, but they hadn't had the time to take care in that aspect. Had they have stayed behind, they would have been confronted with the poachers instead of well away from them. "It'll only take us a few hours to reach the village." He murmured. Or what's left of it anyhow. |

Her hand ran along the horse’s mane. Running the fine hair through her fingers for a moment. Her gaze remained focused on the ground ahead of them. She was not sure just how long this journey was going to take. In fact she had thought only now that’s he should have figured that out before rushing off as she did. Her father might send more guards, but she was thinking it would be only to return with the pelt of Lonan’s panther, then her. Her brow furrowed at the thought. A rich pelt was all that her father would appear to care about then her own safety. Shaking her head she turned to hear Lonan talk about his brother, his village, and she should remember to tell her father. Making a mental note that she would bring this all to her father’s table and have him deal with it. She was good at getting her way sometimes. She could just take it to the council and explain the situation, which would make her father cross and having to deal with her directly. She hated to have to do such a thing. She felt it was underhanded and much like her father’s course of action then her own. But she thought whatever worked she would deal with the percussions of her actions later. ~Bandits~ She did not like the thought of having to fight. She had no sword. Perhaps she would have to purchase one somewhere along the way. But something told her that there were no shops or smithy’s out here. The town as Lonan had told her was no longer thriving. “I have no wish to run into anyone myself.” She said, knowing that Lonan would not be desired after as much as she might. It was at this thought she drew her hair about her face hoping to hide her femininity. Her robes were drawn about her slender build as well. When he mention that the guards were at the cave she felt a stir of emotions, such as fear strike her to the core. For whatever reason she didn’t quite understand it. She was quick to push it down within. Her green gaze turned back to Lonn. “Perhaps we should take the trails in the woods. It would hide us a little better then simply marching down an open road.” She figured that way they would be able to keep an eye on those that might be already in the town. Also keep an eye on the guards should they follow their tracks then return home. “What say you?” Edited by Angelicia`Croxx, Jul 9 2009, 06:22 PM.

Lonan watched her over his shoulder and out of the corner of her eye. He could smell the fear that his mention of bandits stirred in her, but he chose not to comment on it. Lonan would protect Angelicia for what she was doing and sacrificing for the village he had once called home. He would guard her with his own life as he knew that she was likely the only hope of a future that the Lycanthropes of his village had. He shifted in his saddle, making sure that both of his weapons were readily available if needed. He nodded grimly at her suggestion. "I think you might be right, but we'll have to take care not to disturb too much of the forest ground. It'd be easier for them to pick up the trail in there than it would on the road, but we run too great a risk of being seen out in broad daylight just as we are. It'll take them actually looking for us in the forest to have any hope of ever catching our trail." He explained. He kept his eyes on the road for a few more paces until he found a suitable spot to break off of the road from. He kicked his horse up into a small leap, hopping from the hard packed road to the softer folliage of the wooded area, with that, he turned back in his saddle and then spun off of it, landing on the ground beside the horse with a thump. "Go ahead and walk your horse down here and into the forest a small way, take my mount with you." He said, offering her his reigns. "I'm going to cover up our trail into the forest quickly so that they dont suspect we went this way." He explained as he set to work covering their trail. |
