The Way Of Nature

The Land of Avalon is a freeform medieval/fantasy roleplaying site loosely based on Arthurian lore. Avalon is home to many friendly members, administrators, and position holders, most of whom are always willing to RP, no matter how new a person might be to the site. With a large shop system full of various spells, items, and equipment no two characters are the same. With character races ranging from elves and humans to dragons, chimeras, and demons Avalon welcomes a wide range of races and RP skill levels. I've got survivalism Posts: 3 Group: Members Member #5,404 Joined: March 15, 2009 Gender Male Name Setharil 'Ronin' Vangor Race Half Elf Age 110 Class Druid Profession Forester Alignment Neutral Evil Member Name Rinkeh	The scent of roasting fish filled the air, and Seth inhaled deeply as he exited the water, his naked form dripping wet from bathing. Hungry, the half elf hastily wrung out his long black hair and tossed it all over one shoulder before crouching by the small fire he'd built to check on the status of his supper. Freshly caught rainbow trout! It didn't get much better than that. Seth had speared the fish with a carefully whittled stick and then had set it so that it leaned over the fire diagonally to cook. A fair breeze blew through the forest today, and it was only a few minutes before Seth dried sufficently to feel comfortable enough to throw his leather pants back on; the remainder of his garments, including a sheathed scimitar and various pieces of jewellry, were folded neatly off to one side (but still well within his reach). For the dark haired druid, this was a typical day. Do whatever the hell he wanted, eat, do more of whatever the hell he wanted, eat, repeat, repeat, etcetera you get the picture. The forest was his home, his domain, and Seth considered himself no different than the bears and wild cats that stalked through the underbrush. Well, if anything, he considered himself even more dangerous. Especially when hungry.

So far has been a pretty normal day, just a day of travelling, pickpocketing for her next meal and stealing apples from unsuspecting market stalls. Though half the day was still left and Serenity decided to take the time to explore around Avalon, something she hasn't done in a while. She closed her eyes, letting herself be immersed in the sounds of nature, letting only her senses guide her way... Suddenly her eyes snapped open, she sensed something, or someone for the matter...

Seth immediately kicked dirt over his small cooking fire to extinguish it - inadvertantly ruining his dinner, which irritated Seth to know end. The half elf druid plucked his scimitar from the pile of his belongings and set forth into the underbrush; the rest of his clothing would take too long to don, and besides, he could move about more stealthily without boots and a shirt. Scimitar in hand, Seth crept along until he came to a well-used game trail and placed his ear to the ground, listening carefully. Yup. Sure enough, he could hear the metronomic plodding steps of a humanoid headed this way. Well, whoever it was, they were going to get one hell of a surprise for encroaching on his territory and spoiling his supper. Seth crouched beneath a thick scrub and waited for the traveler to pass by, scimitar at the ready.

Owie... Serenity thought to herself as she picked herself up, dusting herself as she did. Note to self: Watch where you're going! She continued her walk, not letting her clumsiness bother her, but halted to a sudden stop, her hand flew immediately to her dagger, grasping the hilt. She had barely heard it, a sound so faint that human ears would've missed it. "Who's there?" she called out, her voice devoid of the fear evident in her eyes.

So this traveler wasn't so ignorant as to be completely oblivious to his presence. Seth momentarily lamented the loss of his magic; if he'd been able to adopt his beloved tiger form there would have been nothing to give him away. Then the traveler threw out her challenge and Seth rolled his eyes. Was she serious? Like he was really going to answer... Well, she was young, he gathered that much from the tone of her voice. Not that it excused her clumsy actions. Nature did not show mercy even to the young; if anything, they are a favoured target of predators. Seth was still honourable enough not to target younger women, but if one happened to practically delivered herself to him, well, was he really at fault? Still, her senses had to be above average if she'd already detected him, and Seth was a master at stealth. This would be interesting. Seth did not move. His grip tightened on his scimitar and every muscle in his body tensed. The question was, what would he do with her once she was at his mercy? He hadn't decided yet, but unsavoury thoughts were beginning to form in his mind.

Though she could just shrug it off and continue her walk like nothing had happened, but her sixth sense screaming 'danger' was just too hard not to ignore. She knew that whoever was there was not going to answer anytime soon and Serenity did not want to find out herself... Maybe if she just left right now the person would not harm her?

Too late for that, Seth mused. But while he wanted to stop her retreat, he still wanted to have a bit of a jump on her. There was a fair bit of space beneath the brush he now crouched in, so Seth lowered himself completely to his belly and began to crawl forward, mindful of any branches overhead. His plan was successful until he was about 10 feet away from his prey: While he had been watchful for obstacles overhead, he hadn't been paying as much attention to the path before him, and consequently snapped a twig beneath his elbow. Seth froze again; he didn't even breathe.

Her ears strained to hear the slightest of sounds as her sensitive nose caught any scents floating by. No doubt about it... Someone was there... And she needed to get out of there... But her fear had held her in place... Damn you fear!!! she screamed in her mind.

He was making his way through the forest, looking for game to hunt. Along the way, he heard movement. As he got closer, he heard a young girl call out "Who's There?" He immeadiatley got to the ground. He crawled towards where he heard the voice, being extremely careful not to make any noise. Once he got closer, he spotted te girl, but she was looking in the opposite direction from him. he could see that she had her dagger in hand and was quite scared. He sat and waited to see what would happen.

Do something already! Seth screamed at the girl in his mind. The druid considered himself a patient hunter, but when so-called intelligent prey stood there frozen like a petrified deer it seriously irked him. Seth glared at her, thinking, weighing his options. Moving closer without being detected was bound to be a lot more difficult from here on out, and Seth began to ponder ditching the stealth act all together. Those thoughts quickly evaporated though as Seth noticed from his vantage point a fair-sized shape pass by behind the girl. For the umpteenth time that day he lamented the loss of his magic; a lightning bolt was a very effective means of discouraging both man and beast from interfering with his hunt. But, c'est la vie. One day he would regain the vast powers he once commanded... Well, whatever. His current method was working fine, he just needed to be more careful of what was underfoot - err, underelbow, he should say. Crawling forward on his belly still, though much more slowly and carefully, Seth closed the distance between him and the girl to five feet.

Seth sprang to his feet from under the bushes (earning a nasty scratch or two on his bare chest) and took off in pursuit - only to pull up short when the girl suddenly tripped. Seth rolled his eyes and stared down at her with bored disdain. "You are one pathetic excuse for an intelligent being, you know that?" He flicked a thumb over the sharpened tip of his scimitar. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't do the gene pool a favour and kill you..." If whatever was in the bushes was merely an animal, it would do nothing; if it were sentient, Seth expected his words to draw the individual out. Well, unless they were just another opportunist waiting for Seth to make a mistake and take advantage of both he and the girl... Almost nothing could surprise the druid.

Note to Self: Get the last note into your freaking brain!!! She looked up to see the man who pursured her, his eyes showed boredom and his words made it clear that he wouldn't hesitate to kill her, but she let out a small snarl when he called her pathetic. She could sense he was an elf, but he couldn't use magic, much to Serenity's relief, but she eyed his simitar warily. Because I still have a reason to live... Serenity answered the man's question in her thoughts, but she stayed silent, deciding to take her chances see the turn of events, her hand still gripped on the hilt of her dagger, ready to rip it out of its sheath at a moments notice.
