To the east of the capital of Trevena lies a hidden abbey. The fields around these holy grounds are littered with the graves and tombs of all those of the sacred order that pray there. The compound itself was comprised of a ten foot tall wall that went about the the entire perimeter of the grounds. Inside was enough acreage for a sizable garden to sustain the knights of this holy order. There was also a church, a few barracks, and of course the training field. It was here where the Neophyte Valaria Jacen was now practicing with he dull training sword on a few other men of the order.

" Arrrgghhh", she cried out as she pivoted forward bringing her full might down behind her sword upon her foe. Their blades crashed together, a flash of sparks left in the wake as she slid it down and stopped on his hilt. The man man made a stupid mistake by looking down to make sue that his hand were clear of danger, and in the instance Valaria kicked forward with her right leg sending the man down with a hard kick to the stomach. She did not wait to watch him double over in pain, but instead turned one hundred and eighty degrees to confront the other man.

" You know Sister Valaria you could have gone a little bit easier on the lad. He just turned seventeen, and for all we know was bewitched by your feminine wiles", the leather clad man said as he sized up Valaria. " And you Brother Jerminus would do well to advert your gaze to the matter at....HAND", she replied bringing her blade up in a diagonal arc towards his right hip! The two swords clashed together throwing up another shower of sparks. Valaria over her couple of years of being at the abbey had formed a rivalry with Brother Jerminus and the two often trained together. Today they just decided to let the young teen train with them so he could learn a few things.

As Jerminus concentrated on blocking the blade Valaria allowed it to be pushed back somewhat. The flat edge of her blade now locked against with his blunt edge. Catching the brother of guard she allowed him to over power her and in that swift move he came closer into her guard. Close enough for her to deliver a knee strike to his sword hand and cause him to drop it. ' Ouch Valaria that stings a bu.....", he began to reply but was cut off when her swords edge was now at his throat. He looked up and smiled and she did the same back. " Come on you two. I'll make you some lunch as a thanks for letting me use you for dummies", she laughed beckoning for the two injured brothers of her order to follow after her.

Morte was jingleing a pocket full of gold and grinning to himself thanking the gods that paladins still liked 'ceremonial' wine and 'holy water'. "May the gods give you good fortune." Said the monk who had paid him, already with a red nose. Thats why Morte liked the orders, they always paid, were never begging for a little more, and were consistent repeat customers.

He waited against a pillar in the order while he waited for the good word about his latest batch, having given a few of the newer trainees to the oder an experimental batch of Gin he liked to call, 'Holly Water'. It was a fruitier drink then most, with a touch of holly sprigs to them to which Morte hoped would give a pleasing aftertaste, and left better smelling breath.

He heard the sounds of battle, or in this case sparring, and glanced up. A skilled woman was sparring with a number of other men, and appeared to be giving them a lesson in proper ass kicking. He took out a small hip flask and took a swig and almost cheered when he saw that the woman came out to be the victor. Rather, he waited until she was getting close and raised his flask to her, "Good show there paladin, quite a sword arm you've got there."

The group made their way up the small hill towards the barracks where should make the duo a nice lunch. ' You know you got beat by a girl right Dax", Jerminus gloated on giving the younger brother a playful push to the back. The two elders laughed at this notion and soon the young Dax joined in before they all stopped. Both Valaria and Dax looked at Jerminus with an odd look. " Umm so did you brother", replied the young one a grin cracking on his face. Valaria blurted out with laughter and was soon followed by Dax. " Well I guess when you put it that way I was', Jerminus replied joining in on the laughter.

As they continued on up to the top they caught site of one of the elder abbots bringing in some of the wine with the help of the young lings of the order. She was just about to speak up when she was complimented by a male voice off from he right side. He had complimented her on her sword techniques. A wise man to know talent when he saw it. " we'll go wash up and prep the food Sister", came the call of Jerminus as Dax and he made their way inside to clean up and do as they promised. Valaria nodded and walked over to the pillar to where the hooded man standing against it and holding a flask out in praise to her skill. " I thank you for the compliment stranger but it is not needed. It still needs a lot of work before I can join my brethren out in the world and keep the peace', she replied stopping about two meters from him, her arms folded across her chest.

She gave the man a once over, taking in his physique and the way he held himself. So far she was picking up on nothing. he indeed was a mysterious person, and obviously a new trader to the abbey. Misguided elders trusting anyone who would sell them their wine.

Morte stayed still as the woman addressed him, "I thank you for the compliment stranger but it is not needed. It still needs a lot of work before I can join my brethren out in the world and keep the peace." Morte shook his head, Paladins...

She was dead set on her goal like most of them were, keep the peace no matter the cost, always jumping to brash conclusions and making the first action. Morte remember were he picked up a purse an old woman had dropped and was almost tackled by a paladin who thought he was stealing from her. He had a good laugh when the paladin missed Morte and crashed into someone else. Even though the person had turned out to be an escaped convict Morte insisted it was dumb luck...

He grinned at the woman and lowered his flask, returning it to the folds of his robe. As he did so he unintentionally revealed the chain mail armor he wore underneath his clothing. "Madam, your swordsmanship seems to be better then most I've seen. Thieves and brigands will have much to fear when you have finished your training I'm sure." He smiled and crossed his arms as she was doing, "My name is Morte Rajin, at your service."

The young sister in training snorted a little bit when the mystery man called her a madam She was years from such a pitiful sight and scoffed at his notion. " Please dear stranger I am not your mother or the neighborhood old maid. So please call me sister Valaria", she replied her tone becoming a little bit more serious before allowing him to continue with the rest of his futile introduction. The only reason she had even approached him was he had noticed her swordplay, which she had prided herself on since she had come to the abbey three years ago.

" Aye the thieves and brigands have nothing to worry from me but the vengeance of the all mighty above and how I deliver it upon them", she replied looking forward into his eyes and tying to pick up on anything that may alert her to any sort of deception or something of that sort. " So Morte Raijin, do you usually sell wine to abbeys such as this or is this a part time job", the sister asked trying to get more out of the newcomer?

Morte nodded calmly when she objected to being called Madam, "Terribly sorry Sister Valaria, i just find Madam a more respectful term to use on a well held woman such as yourself." Just as he thought, jumping to brash conclusions as always, damn paladins...

Sister Valaria stared at him intently, as if eying him over, a look he was accustomed to receiving from women. Though, as he guessed, she was more eying him like she would any other suspicious person, though did he really appear all that suspicious? "So Morte Raijin, do you usually sell wine to abbeys such as this or is this a part time job," she asked, trying to pry information out of him. If she wanted information she was all to happy to have it, "No Sister Valaria, i am a brewer of trade. This is my job and i rather love it, as it gives me a chance to travel the world and bring happiness to peoples hearts, though their flagons. I prefer selling to abbeys as they always pay, dont try to weasel out of a deal, and are consistent customers. This abbey has a taste for my wine, and i'm all to happy to give them my best batch. The gods work are important, and their followers are permitted to have the best in life do they not?"

Morte smirked, looking past Sister Valaria to see an elder monk holding a bottle of 'ceremonial' wine, already empty. If he gave those monks any crap wine they'd know, damn him to hell, and go to another willing winery.

The man perplexed her as he gave off his whole speech about being a full time brewer and how he loved selling to abbeys such as these. What kind of person would feed of the one weakness that the priests of the Order of Sanctity had? In fact that was the priests only weakness. The wine was the only thing that they were allowed to consume like that, just as long as it wasn't in greed but in praise of the almighty. " No we are permitted to have what the lord deems fit and that is all. No more or no less. Though as an outsider I should not be scolding you on these matters and humbly ask for your forgiveness. I also offer you a hot meal if you have not already eaten', she replied lookign to the man. She had just insulted him in the eyes of her order by presuming that he knew the will of the Lord.

It was only right that she offered him some of her lunch that she was going to make for the two brothers already inside preparing it. She held out her hand as a sign of apology waiting for him to shake it.

Morte took the woman's hand to shook it. "Sister Valaria, you are within your right to scold me. You should of course be allowed to inform someone when they are incorrect, lords know I would." Morte had to admit that Sister Valaria had a nice strong handshake, yet it still had its feminine feel to it showing that this woman could be a lady at times rather then a warrior. Refreshing to see that she wasn't completely brainwashed by the church yet.

"I accept your offer, who am I to reject a meal from a beautiful woman." Morte really should not be so flirtatious to a paladin no less, but it was his nature, he would not change. "If i may ask Sister Valaria, which of the gods does this order follow, Lord Haili? Lady Kaliyah? Or are you an Oder of Drystan's Paladins?"

Valaria took his hand into her own and gave it a firm shake before releasing it and walking towards the barracks, hopefully with the wine seller in tow. If he followed she would lead him into the kitchen section where Dax and Jerminus were busy cutting up vegetables. " Oh I must apologize. When I say the Almighty or Lord I meant Lord Drystan. The great being of justice. Oh hallowed be thy name", she replied offering him a seat at the table while she walked over to the side and wrapped an apron herself before grabbing a knife and some carrots from young Dax. " Now see here brother its just like in sword practice. Nice and steady", Valaria stated as she placed his hand upon her own on the knife and guided the youth. The younger brother smiled and took over and began to cut them in a percise way.

" So Morte Rajin, may i ask if you pray to any diety", she asked looking up to him from her pan that she had just placed above the fire? She tossed in a little bit of oil and began to stir it around, awaiting to heat up before she tossed in the lettuce and carrots.

Morte smiled, a firm handshake, one of authority and power, yet one soft and gentle from the hand of a woman. He followed her to the barracks and saw the two paladin's whom she beaten to a pulp earlier. "Oh I must apologize. When I say the Almighty or Lord I meant Lord Drystan. The great being of justice. Oh hallowed be thy name," She said before putting on an apron and assisted in cooking the meal. He had to admit she looked attractive in the apron.

"So Morte Rajin, may i ask if you pray to any diety?" She asked, looking up at him just as she had placed the pan on the fire. Not a very smart move not paying attention to it though...

"I Pray to all the gods, for they all provide their part in the world. I ask Lady Kaliyah to stay her hand to grant me a long life, and pray to Lady Kioku to keep her wars out of my home. I kneel before Lord Drystan, and ask that he keep my life from falling to shambles, and ask that Lord Halli gives life to my love, to make sure that the trees give me air to breath and food to eat. And Finally I pray to Lady Selena, thanking her each day for that magic that flows through my veins..." Morte tilted his head and looked at Lady Valaria, "Does that answer your question?"

She nodded on as she listened to Morte's accounts of all the gods he prayed to while she finished mixing about the stir fry in her pan. Garbbing a few bags of spices from the top shelf she threw a couple pinches of each into the mix before adding in some soy beans and cooking them too. " Oy Dax hurry up and get them carrots in brother. They are the best part", cried Jerminus from the other counter who had been setting up the table and filling up the water jug from the pump at the end of the kitchen. The younger brother nodded and had just finished up when Jerminus hurried him up. Walking over he dumped them into the mix, " There you go sister', he said before taking his cutting board over to the sink for Jerminus to wash.

Valaria's hand stopped for a second when she heard him say about the "magic" running through his veins. So he was one of those types. They were becoming more and more coming these days. Oh my how she missed her life back on the farm where there was nothing of this sort there. " So you can do magic then. Magic on your own behalf", she asked while taking the dish over to the table and set it into the middle? She motioned for him to come over not wanting to say anything and interrupt him in his reply to her question. Taking a seat she sat at the on head with Jerminus at the other and Dax at the west side. This just leaving the east side for the new magic user.

Morte sat down across from Sister Valaria, the two brothers, other paladins, sat down on either side of sister Valaria. Morte looked over the meal and took in a wiff, it smelled fantastic. "You've done quite well, maybe you three should be chefs instead of paladins." He joked, before removing a napkin from his robes and shaking it. "I assure you i'm kidding Sister Valaria, your swordsmanship would go to waste. So that just leaves two chefs doesnt it?"

Morte folded his fingers in between each other and sighed, "Magic courses through my veins," Morte said, the two brothers shut up and stays still, "and it has its uses at times..." Morte said with a strained tone at the end.

Valaria nodded at his reply. Who was she to judge someone else personal beliefs and way of life. She looked to her brothers as they bowed their heads. " Dear Lord Drystan, we thank you for the will you have bestowed upon us to follow the ways of the just which had left us to such a bountiful meal. We ask that you please be with those who are unjust and hopefully persuade them to turn over a new leaf before we reach them and deliver upon them your divine wrath. We ask this in you name......", Vallaria sad reciting their dinner prayer. It was not much but it was to the point and that was pretty much what their order believed.

" Sorry if we presumed that you prayed like that. We just took it upon ourselves", came up the voice of Dax from across from Morte. " So wine salesman where to next", asked Valaria trying to stir up a conversation. Jerminus and Dax already stuffing their faces with the delicious meal listened on in between bites? That was until they suddenly seized up in a instant. Food dropping out of Dax's open mouth. Valaria looked on in awe, her grip tightening on her knife and fork as she looked over to Morte. " This is your doing", she asked, thinking she already knew the answer?

Morte joined them in prayer, saying his thanks for Lord Haili for giving life to this food and to Lady Selena, as he usually did at all meals. "I dont really know where to for me next, i may go back home for a bit and work on the next batch, maybe go see the in laws home... I need to talk with my wife.." Morte nodded his head, the shame returning. He exhaled and released his magic hold on the two paladins, "Just a harmless display of my magic Sister Valaria, no ill intent was meant, I am sorry." Morte explained, backing up slightly seeing a fork and knife in her hand. From what he saw before, anything with an edge or a point would be deadly in her hands.

Valaria was relived when he took the spell off and apologized for his actions. He was supposedly giving a demonstration of his powers and immediately released the two brothers. " Oy what was the deal with that", Jerminus demanded slamming his fists on the table?! Dax nodded in agreement still chewing on his food. Valaria herself had released her tight grips on the silverware before composing herself. " Please you two sit. Im sure our new friend is very sorry", she commanded motioning for the two to take their seats and finish their meals.
