"It's freezing!" And that was all Deirdre really cared about, while she was trekking through the mountains. That and the blade that was strapped to her waist. She'd had it on good information that you could meet some interesting folks up in the mountains, and she was just looking forward to meeting someone. So far, since coming to Avalon, all she'd been doing was walking around and checking out various mercenary jobs. Not exactly her ideal life, after all. "Helloooo?" She called, hearing her own echo come back to her after a moment. "Is anyone out there or are you all hiding in the snow? Because it's far too cold to hide." Straightening her tunic, lined with fur for maximum heat, she looked around and waited for some bit of movement to clue her in to the presence of another person. It didn't seem to be forthcoming. Crossing her arms, Deirdre Eihm pouted. Edited by Deirdre Eimh, Apr 6 2009, 11:39 AM.

So it was cold. Way cold. And she was lost. One would venture to say that it was all to easy for the girl to get lost in her own house. But out in the wilds like this, it was dangerous. Very dangerous. Thio would only blame the snow. If it had not been for the snow, she would not have lost the scent of the earth and wold not have lost her brother's trail. Now ... hey were separated. though the howling wind and crunchy snow she would stomp her way through the peaks. But for all she knew she'd be stomping into a bear's cave. Luckily for her, that did not happen. Still, she was not prevented from becoming lost. And cold, and miserable. A hand was brush briefly against the short sword at her hip. It was shoved haphazardly into the cloth belt about her waist. Standing in snow she was all green with stark red hair making her stick out like the proverbial sore thumb. Not that she noticed, she saw nothing but black and the occasional hint of red if she stared at the sun. Her ears would seem to, though almost imperceptibly, twitch at a sound above the just now calming wind. Pulling her meager coat tighter around her thin frame she would stop and listen further. a voice! There was a person out in the cold and wet and snow. As much as she regretted it however, she could only stand like a lump. The werefox fund it safer to remain where she was out of caution. Thinking of running blindly (no pun intended) into some unsuspecting traveler's sword was not pleasant. "Hello? Over here!" |

More than anything, it was the silence that was unnerving. Deirdre wasn't accustomed to being on her own, even though she fought alone. Just because she did that by herself didn't mean that she didn't like people. "I should have just stayed in Trevena. I was starting to make friends there, even if they did like to drink a little too much and didn't take me seriously. I could have just stayed there nice and warm - and hell, eventually I would have learned a couple things about fighting with a sw-" It was an answering voice that interrupted her trail of pessimistic thoughts, and for a moment she couldn't believe her ears. "Someone else is out here and miserable? It must be my lucky day." Carefully, she drew her sword. The voice was female, but that didn't mean that it was all innocent and flowers and daisies. You never knew what you were going to run into, and Deirdre didn't intend to be the prey of some vixen who lured her out of hiding with a sweet voice. "I'm coming your way ...," she replied, heading towards the sound of the voice, her feet crunching under the snow. That was another thing- why did the girl want her to go her way, when she could have just found Deirdre? It was nerve wracking. "Keep saying things, otherwise I'll never find you!" |

It was somewhat embarrassing, and not very smart, to yell out in the middle of nowhere 'oh hey I'm blind!'. That would be like just asking for someone to come rob you or try and capture some poor unsuspecting blind girl for ... well bad reasons. Thio had heard stories, in her few adventures out of town. But Rex would have none of it. Ah, if only her brother had seen her now! He would be ... well pretty upset. But she didn't need his watchful eye all the time. After all, she was blind, not stupid! Though many would say otherwise. Thio however, preferred to simply state, that she was adventurous. Even though right now ... this didn't seem like much of an adventure. "Okay!" Hugging herself in an attempt to keep warm, she wished should had been able to give the person a hint as to her location. But there was no particular landmarks for the werefox to remember in her walk here. Well, who knew, there could have been a giant dragon skeleton hovering over her for all she knew. "My name's Thio! What's yours?" Hey, might as well get introductions underway, while she waited. |

Deirdre knew she was lucky that the person yelling back was obviously not a robber. Otherwise, they wouldn't have even bothered to yell back .. they would have just followed her voice and found her -- and then robbed her and possibly left her to die in the snow. But that hadn't happened yet. Deep breath. Sometimes this whole adventuring thing was too adventuresome for her. Other times, it just got plain tiring, running around and always trying to be sure that she didn't get herself killed or speared and eaten like a shish ka bob. The girl kept talking, and Deirdre moved eagerly towards the sound of the voice. Civilization! It was a very good thing, in her opinion. "Nice to meet you, Thio! I'm Deirdre!" She called back, feeling like she was getting closer. There! Through the snow! She could almost make out the figure of a girl (with ears?). "How did you manage to get stuck here, huh? It's an awful way away from home, wherever that is for you." Reaching the girl, she stuck out a hand expectantly. "I'm here, so it's nice to meet you." |

She cursed that blasted bird now, the big buzzard that tried to make a fox into a meal. It had carried her quite a way from the path she'd transversed. Thio could not remember how much time had passed since then. Only the surprised squawk of the bird as a fox turned into a girl and the girl's weight cause the raptor to plummet. Until it let go of her, that is. Let's just say the landing was none too pleasant. Though the snow did cushion her impact with earth. Such things were forgotten now, however. Thio was always the excitable type, always glad to make friends. Her head would tilt at the crunch of snow. Two feet, easy pace, the voice. It was good that she was not being stalked by some predator. Even if she was technically a predator herself. "It's a long story... I just got separated from my brother." Because 'I was carried here by an eagle' just wouldn't work. Though she could determine the other's location by the proximity of their voice, there was no indication of the proffered greeting. So the ordinary looking girl (no weird ears ... yet) was ignorant of the gestures of hello. |

Her hand hung in space for a couple awkward moments, and there was just silence. "Is she ignoring it on purpose? I can't tell ... maybe she's just ... not acquainted with greeting formalities?" Deirdre thought, puzzled but not insulted. There was no reason to jump to conclusions. "Something does seem a bit off, just by the way she acts. She's not exactly looking at me straight on, is she?" Pursing her lips together and surveying the girl a little more closely, she tried to find a polite way to phrase something that basically boiled down to 'what the hell is wrong with you?'. "I guess it must be a long story for you to end up wayy up here. Well, at least one of us isn't lost. I came up here to train and fight bandits," at that she struck a pose, and then lapsed into giggles. "Well, that was the idea. I just found you instead. Or maybe you found me. You wouldn't happen to be a bandit, would you? Pretty strange looking one, you'd be." By the way the other girl acted, maybe she was blind. Deirdre couldn't tell, and after a moment of silence, she opened her mouth again. "And, uhm. I don't know how to say this, but you're not looking at me. And I held out my hand, for a shake ... are you sure you're all right out here? Is there something hurting you, are you injured?" Her voice was gentle, and obviously she meant it in the kindest way possible. |

Thio was accustomed to awkward silences and uncertain questions when it came to her. But she considered her blindness neither handicap nor disability. Perhaps it was merely because she was born without sight and it was all she'd ever known. On the other hand she may just be sheltered thanks to her home being in the middle of the forest and away from practically everyone. except her brother of course. "I don't know anything about bandits other than my brother says they are baaaad news." She'd laugh slightly. Her home in the forest was so small and so far from anything that bandits wouldn't even want to stop by. Her laugh however would return to a giggle as she put her hands over her eyes. "I can't see a damn thing. Ever." Tilting her head thoughtfully however, a hand would reach into the pocket of her skirts, withdrawing a small cloth from them. Looping it over her head in a display of simply idle action, she'd wave it about soon enough. "If it bothers you I can cover my eyes, some people prefer it." |

Deirde had always been rather straight-forward ... about everything. It was in her nature. She'd never seen the point in beating around the bush when it came to awkward questions, because in the end, the answer would come out and that would be that. In any case, she was still studying Thio with a rather curious look, trying to find some sort of hint that would be her saving grace. "Your brother is right. They are baad news," she said, giggling herself, and stretching out the word just like Thio had. Bandits were everywhere, as far as she could tell. No place was safe! Which was partly why she'd come all the way out here, just to hunt them. It was bad enough that it was cold, even worse that people would dare to pray on others. Well, that explained a lot. "No, it's fine. I was just curious. My grandma went blind at the end, so I'm kind of used to it. Before I left home, I took care of her. It doesn't really bother me. So you've been blind from birth?" |

"Ok!" She tossed the cloth over her head nearly gleefully. After all, she sometimes enjoyed the feel of the wind on her face, unhindered by cloth. As the cloth fell across her shoulder she would scoop it up and shove it into her pocket. Shifting he weight from foot to foot in the snow, her hands would be shoved in her pockets. "Yeah yeah. And people will be all 'oh poor dear'. But I never seen before so i don't know what I'm missing so what's the big problem?" Laughing lightly, a hand would raise and she'd touch the tip of her nose. "But I have good sense of smell. An my hearing ain't too bad either. So I don't need a stick or nothing!" |

Couldn't blame her for that; adventuring, as a general rule, was quite exhilarating. Deirdre wasn't sure, but she had a feeling that everything was heightened when you couldn't see - even the adrenaline rush from going somewhere new. "She seems nice," she thought to herself, curious about this girl. "So how did she end up way out here? Lost, I guess she said earlier." Tramping down the snow under her boots, she shrugged, before remembering that Thio couldn't see it. "I guess that must be the hardest part...? People pitying and whatnot. I hate it when people do that to me, and I can see. I even have all my limbs," she added, proudly. "And to be honest, sometimes you aren't missing much, not being able to see. Fat men in spas, my friend, fat men naked in spas." Shuddering, she giggled. "Lucky you. I wish I could smell like you, I think. I'm Deirdre by the way ... where are you off to? Back to your aforementioned brother?" |

The shifting of her weigh from heel to heel would turn into a brief hop as she attempted to gain warmth. "Yup." Thio nodded. "He hunts in the cold months and takes the furs and extra meat to the market. But this time he had to come all the way out to the mainland. I was trying to meet up with him cause he always leaves me behind at home. But I got lost." |

Well, this was quite interesting. A blind girl, trying to find her brother. "She must have one hell of a spirit, or be mad otherwise," Deirdre thought to herself, impressed. There weren't many who would have the cajoles to come out this far just because they were left behind. "She doesn't think of herself as crippled, and I shan't think of her that way either. She can do anything I can do, just in a different way." After a moment, she offered, "Do you want to travel with me? I've not really had a direction in a long time, but I don't mind following you. Besides, you seem like the lot to get into trouble, and I like trouble. Me and 'im are old friends." |

Her pose changed, and her voice took on a tone of completely false offense. "I don't get into that much trouble!" She laughed, barely able to keep a straight face. "Or at least not get caught. Blind kids are harmless, didn't you know that?" Thio was often underestimated because of her lack of sight. Not only that but her nature was more childish than her age, not to mention her being somewhat of a short girl. "I'd love to travel with you! But we'll just have to see if trouble can handle us." |

"Really?" Deirdre raised an eyebrow and giggled. "Well, I get into that much trouble. It's kind of a habit, I don't know where I picked it up. It must run in my family or something." Turning around and around in the snow, she suddenly didn't feel quite so cold or alone. It was nice having a quasi-friend, who wasn't trying to kill you. "I think traveling together is going to be super fun, but we should check with your brother. So which way is he? I know you can't like ... point, but if you just let me know, I can be your sight. Not that you need me! You've gotten so far on your own." |
