What remained of the guard that had come here with him was holding a line in the back. Behind him. They let him to the heavy lifting. Or swinging. Whatever you wanted to call it. He had his crystal sword out and found himself lost in a spray of blood and limbs as he carved his way into the lines. He swung in a broad arch, cutting one in half and then hit the next that took it's spot with a one two slash, both horizontal. Sweeping in from the left, the first swipe cleaved it's chest plate off. The next one came in from the right, goring the beast.

He slashed blindly left, catching one un-helmeted goblin in the face, caving it in and killing the creature instantly. He yanked it out and stumbled back. He used the momentum of the stubble to cold shoulder another. He cleaved wildly, taking off two heads in one swipe. He stabbed one more and the goblins, as they had done seven times by now, blew their horns and retreated. Halli pulled back to the lines, wiping his sword clean on a cloth. The goblins that flew past him has made it to the line and into a phalanx of spears and shields. Warriors took the moment to kick the goblins off the tips of their spears.

Halli grabbed a water skin and downed it. A horn call. That was the warning. They could either leave or face refreshed forces. He sheathed his blade and pulled out his crossbow, loading a frost bolt. He hefted it to shoulder and the archers in the back line drew back their bow strings. The third horn sounded and the dull thump of his crossbow and the twang of bow strings sent a hail of metal to meet their foes. He detonated his bolt in mid air, freezing multiple enemies. And so it began... again.

Aether was amazed at what he was watching. The humans to his right were fighting a flood of half -men creatures and neither side would back down. There was one human in particualr that caught the Elementals attention, he had just frozen a few of the creatures with a bolt from a crossbow and was getting redy to fight again. Removing his shirt and trannsforming the rings of his staff into a spike and blade the Amber Wind removed his shirt. Aether opened his arms and let the tug on his body to reaturn to it's true form grow stranger, his physical body getting lighter. A gust of wind from behind the Elemental blew him in a rapid pace down to where the human was standing.

"You look like you can use the help of an Elemental."

As his words reached the man's ears Aether's feet touched down on the blood soaked earth. Even if the man said he wanted no help at all the Amber Wind was going to fight, it was up to this human if Aether would kill any men that get in his way of the creatures or not. In all truth the Elemental did not care, but life had value and any lives that did not need taking were just as good as those who were laying on the ground.

He loaded up again. 'Time to show off...' He let loose a lightning bolt, one after the other, detonating them mid flight and showering the ever growing wave of bodies with raw electricity. He only managed five bolt, enough to down over 10 and injure countless more, leaving them open for the slaughter. He harnessed his crossbow and drew his blade, rushing the new front line. They were phased from the electric attack and on his first strike he managed to cleave one of the goblins in half.

He had noticed the wind elemental. While he appreciated the help, he really didn't need it. The God had been at it for almost four hours and he had not even begun to tire or feel his strokes. It was all as natural as the next. The first goblin to attack him has a double handed axe. One bladed. Big mistake. It swung with a mighty heave, an over head chop that would have broken normal blades. But Halli's wasn't normal. It took the impact, a jar reaching his shoulder. He let the weight of the weapon crash into the ground as he slid his blade from under it and sliced the goblin across the throat. He hefted the axe up with one hand and put the back part of the handle on his back. He swung a wide arch and slammed the blade into the chest of a surprised goblin, that fell over, axe in intestines.

He brought is sword out, jabbing forward, catching a charging beast in the side. A small sword tried to cleave it's way into his armor, but glanced off. He yanked the sword out and murdered the goblin that had tried to hit him. He was then confronted by three big guys, all of them wielding broad blades. He parried the first swing, avoided the second and got a nick in his mail from the third. He stabbed one, parried another blow, avoided the next. Another fell to his blade. He stuck out, a wide slash and was surprised when the goblin blocked. They exchanged a few more blows before his opponent crumpled.

He kept on carving and carving, getting the feel for butchery.

Aether smiled, the man had not replied and by default the Elemental took that as a yes. Turning to the mass of ugly, graceless creatures the Amber Wind held his staff tightly. The first one that ran at the Elemental was given a slash across the neck, the creature fell, clutching at it's pouring blood. Aether looked down at the thing, writhing in pain on the dusy, blood- soaked ground.

"This battle is a game of chess, and you are but a pawn in this match. I am no king, or knight. But I am a valuble player."

Aether spun his staff in hand, the heavy bladed end pointing to the ground and dashed forward into the ranks of demon- spawned creatures. A goblin with a short sword jabbed at the Elemental's stomach, the composite staff batted the attack away and he grabed the unlucky goblin by the neck. An Air Cutter spell went through it's skin but left it alive, the Elemental tossed it to another goblin and the bloody one started to beg for help. A momentary flash of fear, that was what Aether wanted to see. The second Goblin's blade dropped slightly eyes opened just a fraction more, repressed fear.

Aether counldn't remember anything sweeter than the smell of fear in the air over a feild of battle. Any creature that set eyes on his stunk of it, the spear in his hand and the magic in his veins demanded respect from almost everyone on the battlefield. The bladed tip of said apear went shooting through the neck of a goblin and into the temple of a smaller one. Yanking the shaft from the dead bodies the Elemental threw out his right hand a tornado carved a swath through a line of golbins about to overwhelm a soldier.

Without warning the human side of Aether's mind took over loving the bloodshed and the splattering, red, lifegiving liquid on his face. The man started to laugh with a fervor even he had not seen in himself. Smashing the point of the spear into the ground Aether put his hands a foot apart, a tremendous amount of energy began to grow with a slight green lumosity between his palms.

When the light was bright enough that Aether could hardly be seen behind the glow his arms shot upwards. The ball of light grew smaller untill it was only a pin sized point of light, but a gigantic dragon made of pure wind energy was coiled like a snake in the air. The beast uncoiled and let out a masive roar, diving into the crowd of goblins.

It's jaws opened to show row after row of Air Cutter Fangs, a Cyclone Heart deep in it's chest sent out a slight pulse every few seconds. The beast let out a Gale Blast from its maw and sent a wave of Goblins into the air, then it slashed then all with one swipe of a clawed paw. Turning to the battlefield it's glowing eye let out a bright light and the monster dove back towards Aether. It soared into the air and started a vertical dive with it's jaws opened far enough to swollow the Elemental whole. The dragon's fangs hit the dusty ground, the serpentine dragon turned into a burst of gale force wind that radiated outward from Aether.

The Amber Wind grasped his spear with both hands, keeping himself from hitting the ground. Glancing around him he saw bodies of Goblins everywhere, ripped to shreads and suffocated from the breath being torn out of their lungs by the force of the wind. The spear transformed itself back into a staff as the magic that held it in it's unnatural form flowed back into Aether. The Elemental let out a harsh bark of a laugh and collapsed next to his beloved staff dust sticking to the partialy dried blood that had splattered onto his body.

The display of magic was far from unimpressive. It was an enchantment and quite mystifying. Because he knew he wasn't about to be cut to pieces by the magical and razor sharp fangs of the beast that was now in the air. He went to work at the enemies in front on him, destroying the oblivious creatures. The magical spectacle was still raging and goblins still were finding themselves torn to shreds by the elemental magic. They had another thing to worry about as well. He had long since blessed his blade and armor, as well as his companions cloth and weapon.

He rushed into a tightly packed group of five, that were peering from around there shields. He rammed his blade into the back of one and it crumpled. He managed two more the same way before the stupid creatures noticed. He had ones head off whilst it was turning around and the next got a sword in the gut. Halli wrenched the blade up, tearing the goblin in half from mid stomach to the top of his head. Brain matter, tissue and blood exploded as the sword left the wound.

He spun to the right, jabbing his sword into the throat of another oblivious goblin, most likely trying to keep from being the dragons next victim. Which would be kind of ironic. He slashed again, lopping an arm off at the elbow. It was a wild swing and he was surprised it had hit. He wasn't even looking. The goblin howled in agony, but it's puny cry was not heard over the ramble and screams of those falling victim to the dragon. He silenced it with a quick beheading.

The magic was over, leaving him to an ever present problem. A few actually. A horde of goblins that he was in, the fact that he was having trouble breathing and a passed out elemental. Or one too weak to move. He started working again, as he caught his breath, freezing the enemies in place with his frost bolts, calling the guard to the elemental. The light weight barricades were moved forward quickly and set up, five feet in the advance of the elemental's body.

"Get him something to drink." He remarked quickly and he froze up the front line as quickly as possible, a wall of solid ice that the goblins would now have to either melts or scale. Melting was the method, he guessed as they lit torches. A bad one too. They were in the low ground and the water would most likely slip up their next charge and cause them a great number of casualties. They would be massacred if they continued. They would be massacred no matter what they did.

It was like gliding on the wind without the breeze. Aether could hear everything that was going on around him but it was all white noise in the backround. He could feel one part of his body and that was his shoudler that was pressed against the tip of his staff. Someone said something about water and the Amber Wind felt the cool liquid flow over his lips, soaking the ground under his cheek.

Sputtering he sat up, brushing the dust from his face and taking a long draught on the waterskin he was handed. After getting a bit of water caught in his throat and coughing he handed the skin back, and grasped his staff.

Standing up was easy, keeping balance was the hard part. A wall of ice had appeared and Aether was slightly confused, but it looked like the Goblins and such were being kept at bay. The Wind Elemental shook his head and yanked his staff from the ground.

"How is everyone holding up?" Aether asked a soldier to his right.

"After that dragon thing came down and cut through the largest part of their forces we are doing fine, but there are a bunch of those beasts on the other side of this ice wall that Commander Halli created."

The Amber Wind nodded and the soldier took off, replacing a waterskin on his belt. I must remember to thank him after this battle......if he is not dead. The morbid thought broke from his mind with the sound of a pane of glass shattering. Aether spun on his right heel as the ice wall was breeched behind him.

"Commander Halli, we have a slight problem!"
