Keayhin found himself lost in thought just as much as he was listening to her. The thought of growing up with a purpose was interesting. He knew people whose families more or less assigned them purposes, brought them up to do something, sometimes it was fine and sometimes they rebelled, but his had never done that and he didn't know what it was to have a sense of purpose of any kind. He supposed that was what he was looking for now, something to do with himself, what kind of person he wanted to be. The elf couldn't help but wonder what it must have felt like to grow up knowing where your place in life was and be a bit envious of it. Sometimes in his journeys he couldn't help but wonder if he was right to even be looking.

"I'm sure you have the capability, but I don't see a reason why you'd need to," he said at the end of her explanation. "Anything else would just distract you, so you wouldn't be able to care for the forest to the best of your abilities. It must be nice knowing your place in life so firmly."

Keayhin turned his head to one side and frowned slightly as she described the omen. He was surprised someone could leave when it was so indefinite, especially since he hadn't heard of or seen any signs of it happening. Insulting her race by pointing this out was definitely a bad idea, though. It also wasn't likely that he could pull off 'I'm glad you didn't, otherwise I would've missed out on the pleasure of your company', so he wasn't entirely sure what else to say. Not sure on what else there was, he simply said, "I'm glad it hasn't come to pass yet, and hope it won't for a very long time." Which was quite true.

There was always a little bit of disparity among younger nymphs. Many didn't not understand why they simply weren't allowed to do other things with their lives. Fact was, their lives had never belonged to them in the first place. Nymphs were created for one purpose, and not given a choice in the matter. You had to be devoted, otherwise you'd never survive in a society that requires you to be okay with what you have been chosen to do, no matter what. There were outcasts all over Avalon, she was sure, but once you declared yourself one, you could never go back. You had to sever all ties.

Persephone nodded. It seemed like he was getting the point and understand a bit more about where she came from ... but she still didn't know anything about him, and that was the strange part. "It's nice sometimes. I mean, other times people don't understand," she replied quickly. "But what about you? I've been babbling. Not that I'm curious about how your kind lives. I just ... want to know. I feel stupid, talking about my life and not letting you talk about yours."

She knew that it was imperfect and indefinite, but it didn't matter to the elders. They did everything based on tradition, whether there was precedent to back it up or not. They always claimed that they would survive the way they always had; by doing things exactly how they had always done them. Otherwise, they'd die in the new world. "I hope so too. I think we all do. It would be sad to see all of this burn."

"There are a lot of things some people don't understand, I guess I've proved that today. But I'd imagine you don't see many people around here, anyways," he said with a shrug.

He looked at her for a moment, surprised that he'd want to know about his life. He wondered if this was a sign she was rethinking her original views on elves, and also if this was for the best. He thought for a moment what he ought to tell her, there really wasn't much he could think of that would be useful. Keayhin had always felt his past was rather common and mundane, now here was someone who wanted to hear about it.

"I hope that you don't find mine boring, it seems terribly uninteresting to me. I don't know my brother very well, he left home before I can really remember and he always felt more like a distant uncle. My father worked to provide for my 6 sisters and I, so was busy, which is why I was mostly raised by my sisters. We lived in a small community where most knew each other, so I guess I wasn't just raised by them so much as raised by everyone- most people who grew up there were," he blushed uncertainly, "I'm not sure how common that is, but that's pretty much how my life was."

Keayhin glanced around the forest, looking at the trees and remembering the ones he'd seen so far and played in growing up. "It would be, I don't think anyone would be happy to see that."

Aye, well that was true. In some ways, his logic was irrefutable, and she was glad to meet an elf with such a level head. That did not, however, mean that she approved of him or his people; it just meant that perhaps he was okay. At the very least. Perhaps Persephone could tolerate him, if he didn't do anything further to annoy her, such as sitting in her forest (despite the fact he hadn't been causing any trouble).

His surprise was warranted. She was surprised herself. Normally, she wouldn't have given two acorns about his life, or the way he grew up ; but he'd been polite and tolerant when she was telling him about her life ... so she couldn't complain if he told her a little bit about his.

It wasn't boring. He'd been raised, it seemed, on the idea that it took a village to raise a child. So different from the life she had. When she was younger, everyone her age had been so different. She'd been rather extreme, whereas they were more mild about the ideas and the job the gods had given them. She hadn't fit in. But he'd had so many sisters, that someone was bound to love him - right? "That's incredible. So different. Was it hard? Did you all fight?"

Keayhin watched her process the information as he had been speaking, nervous that she'd interrupt him and insist that she had merely been attempting to be nice but that it was a courtesy wasted on him. He was still new to strangers, particularly ones that start out against you, and was worried about doing the wrong thing. She certainly seemed to be interested, and maybe even to be warming up to him, but he didn't want to risk assuming he'd earned respect when he hadn't.

"It wasn't hard at all," he said, surprised that anyone could say his life was incredible, "We fought- but everyone fights sometimes. It never got really bad, and at the end of the day you know you love each other so it's pretty easy to make up. There were exceptions, sometimes someone would do something and then you'd end up not talking to each other for a few weeks, but it wasn't really common."
