Marros looked about him in awe. The Great hall was lavishly decorated, its granduer was obvious. But then again this was a temple, so it wasnt particuarly suprising, most temples that he'd visited often were. But he had a purpose for being here. He was looking for his cousin. Now that his elder brother Than, had been taken, and was either assumingly dead or cursed to be the undead, his cousin was the only family he had left. Marros might have been older than the average mortal, but by elven standards he was still young, with the appearence and mentality of any 19 year old. He sighed, it'd been a long journey here and he was anxious to the only one left from his family. It'd been a few years since he'd last seen his cousin. With a sigh he leaned back against the wall and waited. |

Halli was enjoying another day out in the sun. He was scaling the building, his temple, by climbing the many roots. It was vigorous exercise, which he openly welcomed. It felt good to flex his muscles and use them for something, rather than having them rot away as he sat in his private chambers or strolled along the grounds. He could only wonder what Lydia was doing as he passed by the window to his private quarters. He had recently become worried, but only slightly, and for no reason. She had not changed a bit, her womb had only grown a little larger. He hefted himself over the top and stopped to look in the ceiling windows. The Great Hall was unnaturally empty, usually filled with all sorts of people, chit chatting and the like. The 75 plus residents of his temple were usually found there or the courtyard. Or they were in the barracks, wrestling with the guards and playing games again. He couldn't blame them. It was funner than you would imagine. Getting drunk and betting with the garrison of warriors that had decided to stay at the temple during their hiatus. Of course, not everyone did it. Especially the vampire. He did not dilly dally, rather, he tipped backwards over the edge of the temple, taking out his blade and slamming it into the nearest root as he neared the ground. He slid to a stop, hanging about 7 feet over the ground. He shifted his weight and fell to the ground with his weapon in hand. Sheathing it, he went to talk to the lone visitor. He, of course, caught wind of something most unusual. Other Valescovian blood. He knew that it was a distant relative, no one of direct decent, but it was the smell all the same. He quickened his pace until he was behind the man. He clasped his hand firmly on his shoulder. "Welcome, good friend. Do you need something?" |

At the sudden weight upon his shoulder, Marros's hunters reflexes kicked in, he swiftly spun around, directing all three of his knuckle blades at the man's under throat. It took even less time for him to lower his blades and apologise. "Sorry - you startled me" he smiled ruefully at the man, then stepped back suprised, "Halli?" It'd been years since he'd last seen him, but he hadnt expected him to change so much, but yes, he was sure that the man before him was Hali, he could practically sense it, after all they were kin. He himself as an elf hadnt changed too dramatically, but still he wondered if his cousin would recognise him. |

Lydia had heard Halli talking to someone in the Hall and thought she would investigate. It sure beat trying to seem like some little innocent flower in the garden attempting to sketch a bird on the fountain that refused to stay in one place forcing her to redraw it over and over again. She lifted up the skirt of her white dress pulling back one side of her hair and throwing it behind her shoulder. Her ebony curls twisted into soft spirals from the slight humidity. Her footsteps were quiet as meant to be, she had been raised not to make sounds when she moved and even in daily life this rule seemed to stay with her. A guest would be something nice for her, after Lily was taken...after Lily left Lydia felt she didn't have a lot to do anymore. Motherhood had truly kept her busy and with the girl gone...well there just seemed to be plenty of time on her hands. Mostly she just tried to make friends with everyone in the temple and play the part of the sweet young woman who cared for...well whoever needed it. In losing Lily she seemed to take on the role of mother to everyone. She walked into the hall keeping one side of her dress from dragging across the floor but the back of it dragged behind her just a little. Honestly she didn't give a damn about it. She was just simply trying to be ladylike hoping that somehow she would have to stop trying and it would happen on its own. Spotting Halli and the stranger she smiled and let her voice float across the large room like a song, "Hello Halli." Doing a slight curtsied she smiled at the stranger and bowed her head just a little, "Hello stranger, pleasure to meet you. Welcome to the temple, I hope your journey here was not to tiring. I am sure there is an extra room you can stay in and an extra plate at the table if you need rest." Lydia was kind for someone who made a living off killing people. She would gladly help anyone in need, even give the clothes off her back and never ask for anything in return. She never cared what sins a person had committed in their past, only what they intended on changing tomorrow. Maybe that was what made her so trusting to those who had come to hurt her. |

Marros stood looking in confusion from one to the other. On one side stood Halli, the man he'd litterally just recognised as being his cousin, and now yet another new face was added to the mix. But what a pretty new face this woman had, although he didnt know quite why, but he just couldnt shake off the feeling that this stranger was off limits. He nodded his head politely to her, "It's a pleasure to meet you too Ma'm, I'd appreciate that offer of a room and some food..thats if you dont mind - And oh! My names Marros Amandil, and you are?" He'd had little experience in polite conversation, it'd been a while since he'd had any company at all. Marros had been so caught up with hunting demons and the like, he simply hadnt had the time. But the loss of his brother had made him lonely, he was still young, and needed to spend sometime with whatever remenants there were left of his family. He sighed and turned his attention back to Halli, "I've been looking for my cousin," he stated, wondering if the man before him had recognised him, or at least figured it out yet. |

Halli was very aware from first glance of his cousin. And Lydia came over. She may not have been used to the whole acting like a lady thing, but he thought she pulled it off perfectly. He wished she would just act herself though. She wasn't really like herself, in the dress she wore. He remembered someone different. But he would respect her wishes. She could do as she pleased, either way, he was madly in love with her. It had hurt him when Lily left, a little less then it had Lydia. It wasn't his biological child, but he still loved her like he would a brace of his own loins. He quickly slipped his arm in hers and looked at her. He couldn't tell if she was troubled or not. He turned his attention back to his cousin. He really hadn't changed that much since he had last laid eyes on him. He still couldn't believe that he had trace amounts of elf in his blood. Perhaps he would live a little longer because of it? Maybe it was why he was strong and fast and smart? either way, it was a wonder that his cousin had so randomly seemed to find him. "You accuse me, subliminally of course, of not recognizing my own kin? Now, what kind of elf are you? Got a head on your shoulder that you aren't using for thinking, eh?" He gave him a quick pat on the shoulder and waited for him to say something. He turned to Lydia once again. His arm slithered down hers and found her hand and grasped it softly within his own grip. He didn't know what to think. Females were a very complicated book and he didn't know which page to see to check if Lily's leaving was hurting her as bad as he thought. |

She replied to the newcomers question and said, "I am Lydia, just Lydia unless you prefer my real name...if ever I gave it to you." She smiled letting him know she was not to serious about it, well actually she was but in a playful way. Only Halli knew her real name, no one else, not Lily, not Vensint and she wanted to keep it between the two. She had that sort of trust with him that she had with no other being. As Halli took her hand she kissed him lightly on the check and smiled to him. She always felt good when she was with him, she felt happy even if the lose of Lily burned her deeply. To lose her child, her only child, her Lily whom she had carried for nine months and suffered pain to bring her into the world. It seemed like a lot of work and love gone to waist. She didn't want to admit it even to Halli but she hurt, she was hurting deeply and what was worse was when she when into towns she swore she saw Lily's face or heard her voice. Not only that but every time she saw a child or baby she longed to hold one in her arms again. Thus the reason she never talked to Halli about it. He didn't need to know her maternal instinct and biological clock were screwing with her head to the point she saw things that were not really there. Even if Halli understood life he could not understand having lost a life you cared for and carried and suffered for. It was a little maddening to her really. She was the one in fact who didn't even want children until Lily was in her arms for the first time. From that moment on she had pretty much planed what her life would be like and what Lily's life would be like. Seeing that Vensint would never give her back Lily and that she never wanted to go back to him her dreams seemed pretty much flushed. She smiled as the Halli mentioned that this stranger was his cosine. Looking back at him she spoke softly, "Well then welcome indeed. This is as much your home as it is mine or Halli's. I have dreamed of meeting his family, I am honored." |

Marros laughed off his cousins remark, relieved that he had recognised him after all. "Halli you could have told have let us now that you'd found such a beautiful lady" turning his attention back to his cousins partner, "Lydia...the honour is mine," and added teasingly, "its an honour to meet anyone who can put up with that old goat" Grinning, he moved a few paces away from his cousin, not wanting to get a clout for his cheek. He knew full well that Halli wasnt old, and was a man worthy of respect.....but he was family and thus teasable.Especially now that he didnt have Than around to annoy. His good humour left him when he thought of his brother. Men werent supposed to show any emotions that might make them be considered weak. So he'd kept it bottled up about how much his loss was hurting him, covered any pain over with humour or a smile. But on the inside he was gutted and lonely. Than had been everything to him, a big brother, a father, his mentor and best friend. It was alot for one so young to bear. But he was a hunter and knew how to conceal any weakness. He sighed, he knew he'd have to address the issue with his cousin..... and it wouldnt be too simple, for Than hadnt died - he was cursed to walk amongst the undead. Be that what he'd once hunted. "Halli .... I have some ill news - Lydia seen as your family now you can hear this too" He paused before continuing, "Than - my brother, he is lost. In a battle long ago now, he was taken prisoner, his pregnant wife murdered, his men butchered, and he himself was tortured until death claimed him..... But it hasnt stopped there -cursed by the jealous sorceress, he's been raised to walk amongst the undead" Marros's eyes watered involuntarily, and his jaw clenched, as he tried no to let his feelings show. There was one last thing that was burdening him. "Halli...I-I saw him since he....but Halli - I didnt...I couldnt kill him." Edited by Marros Amandil, Feb 24 2009, 04:24 AM.

He smiled at the rib. He even enjoyed it. It was nice to see that he hadn't lost his old sense of humor. But beneath the smile, Halli was not a blind man. Something troubled him. Than, he remembered not much of. Not really his type of person in the all and all. He was a great guy, but him and Halli had never spoken in depth or gotten to know each other. When he had spoken of his wife's murder, the death of many a man and a turning to the undead. Under normal circumstances, he would have stalked away, grabbed his armor, his crossbow and honed his other hunting tools and asked where the undead monster was last seen. But now that this thing was family, well... he didn't move. He felt sorry for Marros, but he felt even worse for this Than. A horrid and wretched thing it would be now, to wander for eternity. "It is a good thing you didn't kill him. I know how I was raised, but I've had to change my ways. No longer am I allowing myself to kill others. I am not fully a God yet, but perhaps after I change I will be able to help your friend, our family member." |

Lydia put a hand on Marros arm and looked at him sympathetically. She knew what losing family was like, in fact she had died only to come back and find everything she had loved gone. All her loved ones dead...except for her two brothers who were in hiding and whom she may never see again. She also knew a lot of the undead, she was one of them after all and she had some hope for Halli's cousin. "Fear not, Than is not lost. Evil if evil has taken his heart he can be helped. Just because you are undead dose not mean you are damned to wickedness, I would know this very well for I myself an considered the undead. I am a Shadower, we are considered the monsters among the lifeless, but still I have a noble heart, this only means that Than can be saved." Her words were sincere and kind. Looking back at Halli she listened to him speak, she agreed with him. It was a good thing he had not killed him. She knew deep down he would have regretted it. Even if she had not seen the man who killed her herself she had heard that he lived with guilt until they burned him alive. He had done it to please a master and get power beyond the order, but his loved for Lydia...Damona had been a knife in his heart when he put on in hers. Would she forgive him even in his death? No, and she didn't want Marros to suffer the same. To suffer the death of his own brother at his hands. She respected Marros for sparing him even if he had become the monster that they hunted. Even a monster could shed its past and rise again. Lydia was proof of this, she had turned from the path of a Shadower, the path of an enslaved killer and had become who she had once been and she had faith Than might do the same. |

Marros felt an imense wave of relief flood through him, knowing that showing mercy had been the right thing to do, and that there was some hope left for his brother. Lydia's touch on his arm startled him, but he appreciated it. For a moment he wondered how different his life would have been if his parents had survived, he had very few memories of them, and those that he had were vague. If they'd have been alive, he and his brother would never had become hunters, so Than probably wouldnt have ended up as the undead, and if anything serious did happen, it would most likely be his mothers hand on him, not Lydia's. Looking at Lydia, he could hardly believe that this caring woman before him was also considered to be undead. He smiled warmly back at her, Lydia and Halli was all that was left of his family now. ooc - sorry if its abit lame - I blame writers block lol |

Halli was thinking. He walked to a near by table, still within ear shot of the other two. Hopefully they would let him go unattended. He sat and reached into a pouch on his leather belt, pulling out a black cigarette. It was clean stuff, from home and made with a type of poppy seed that was actually good for the heart. He took out a match and lit it on the same belt and took a puff as he held the flame up to the tip. It flared amber red and he shook the match out and put it on the table. As he took his first drag, he thought about Than. How to deal with such a problem. Most newly undead reveled in their new forms. Some were evil enough and just enjoyed the rotten look, others are hit with a mountain of self pity and think they deserve it and sought to serve their time in the newly rotted bodies. He would need either a way to heal him or a way to at least subdue him until he could find a way to do so. There were magicians he could talk to. Maybe even the Goddess of Magic could give him some insight. He took another drag, letting the sweet smoke fill his mouth before traveling into his lungs. He considered his options. There was also killing that man. If he could find no cure for this man, then he would confront the hellish being. It could either try to change or die for it's ignorance. He would just need to find a way to keep Marros from knowing. He sat in deep thought and did not return. |

Lydia watched Halli light up his cigarette and turned back to Marrows with that soft look in her eyes. "What sort of undead is he, because some kinds you can cure, some you can never save, but then their are the slight few...well that you can...change a little." Shadowers were unfortunately not one of the undead you could save. Once you became a shadower your only options was to stay this way. If you had the shadows taken out of you then you would start out how you were before they entered your body. You would be a corpse and depending on how long you had been a shadower your body would rot away. Zombies could be saved, but Lydia knew they could only be turned into another kind of undead for this to work. She was sure she could find someone to turn his brother into a sadower and then she could help him overcome it. Vampires, now that was the best one, they could become human but they normally had to earn it and it could take centuries. It was hard, the world of the undead was so dark any tunnel of light seemed to be nothing more then a lie. Still that never had stopped her trying to find some way to save herself...and she would be just as dedicated in saving Marrows brother. In her eyes there was no such thing as true death. Even if they would have to kill him she was sure there would be a necromancer who could bring him back...and maybe bring him back to be a normal human. She turned her attention back on Halli and asked, "What do you think Halli, do you know anyone who could...undue it?" She turned away again shortly after hearing her own words roll off her tongue. No she didn't want to know, it was to tempting. If he had to tell someone he should tell marrows alone in secret and never hear the names. This was between the two of them anyways. The only thing she wanted to do was give them a hand if needed, she didn't want to get in their way. |

Ruby watched, what most people would have called, a touching scene. She'd been silent and still letting Marros have his moment with his family. She sighed to herself, the news she had would change things, half of her was tempted to never tell him, and to send him off on false leads far from his brother - but she couldnt, not now. But still harsh as it sounded, she'd miss her students misery, he was so needy and open when he was hurting. Never mind, finally unable to wait any longer she emerged out from the shadows. "How ... touching. A happy family reunion then I take it" she smiled deviously before glowering at the womans hand, it wasnt a big gesture, but she didnt like to share, not even with his own family. "I've brought you news - its about your brother" smiling coyly, she advanced closer, she was safe enough her - Halli alarmed her a little, but Marros would protect her, he had to. She deliberately took her time before continuing with her sentence, "You neednt fret - Than's curse has been broken , apparently by true loves kiss?" she wrinkled her nose, rather cliche ending to Thans unhappy tale in her opinion. But still, it was the truth, and regardless of how Than's curse had been broken, she knew Marros would be pleased ... and pleasing him, pleased her. |

Ruby's sudden appearence hadnt suprised him, he beginning to get used to her frequent unexpected little visits, but the news she brought him shocked him to the core ... his brother - Than's curse had been lifted? He shook his head almost disbelievingly, still staring wide eyed at the demoness. Within a few strides he had grabbed her firmly by her shoulders and even shook her slightly, "this isnt one of your tricks is it Ruby? If you're lying so help me ...." but something about her eyes told him that she spoke the truth. Releasing her, he ran a hand through his hair, not realising that he'd begun pacing. "But - how do you know .... where is he? Tell me Ruby!" He was too caught up in the news that had been brought to introduce her to his family, it didnt even register that she was a demoness in the temple of a former hunter. |
