Now Shadyn could add "confident" to his growing list of Rene's character traits. Perhaps overly so. He had no doubt that a Water Elemental like herself would be quite resilient, but she had no concept of who it was she was dealing with. He imagined she probably still thought him human, or something close to it. A swordsman, perhaps, judging from how he carried his twin longswords with him on his back. Though Rene seemed quite sure she could take whatever he could dish out, Shadyn got the feeling that this assertion was more naivety than anything else. Perhaps in a physical sense she would prove difficult to damage, but someone as young and sensitive as her didn't need to be dealt a death blow to be rent throughout her heart and soul. At her urging, Shadyn silently removed Lunaras from her throat. Her words might have seemed to her to be brave and wise, but to someone like Shadyn they were only more blatant evidence of her immaturity of mind. Even if the Nephillim wanted to pursue the point of the physical danger he posed her, she only thought her only weakness was electricity. That was simply because nothing more effective had been used against her. However, her powers were very conditional, and where Shadyn could usually be found wasn't typically a place where she might thrive. The Angelus slid Lunaras back into her sheath, the sapphire set in the crossguard and the orb-like pommel pulsating rhythmically in the moonlight. He left his hand loosely resting on the hilt. "You seem quite sure of yourself. Will you be so confident if I choose to strike out over a desert landscape? Or chose to be away from any large body of water for more than a few days? Such are things that I wonder, but that is beside the point." Even if she had the full benefit of a large body of water as her ally, Shadyn imagined even she would be powerless to stop him if he truly set himself against her. She didn't know the fury a Fallen God could summon, the power that resided within the seemingly human man perched on the rock behind her. He did not particularly care to pursue this argument, though, so instead he began to set about unbuckling his blades from his chest and hip. He was, quite frankly, sick of wearing wet clothing. He set Soltia and Lunaras carefully on the rock in front of him, taking care that they would not be slipping into the ocean, and then removed his leather surcoat, sleaveless brown wrapping, long-sleeved shirt, and leather arm bracers. As he did, he continued to speak to Rene in that grim but calm voice. "I speak not of your ability to weather my attack should I bring it to bear against you. I'm sure you are quite a capable fighter in your own right, even against the fury of heaven. I would, however, urge you not to underestimate anyone. There are those who walk the land who appear relatively unassuming, but who could potentially reduce you to the likeness of a storm drainage." With his upper garments removed, Shadyn was reduced to a sopping wet pair of trousers and similarly dripping set of traveler's boots. His torso was bare, as was his arms. The only thing he still wore above the waist was the necklace she had given him, which looped around his neck and hovered around the upper part of his sternum. Shadyn was a bit more slender than you might expect of a swordsman, bearing a more lean look than most warriors might portray. Still, though, beneath his clothing his torso proved to be quite well-muscled. The curves of his musculature were extraordinarily well-defined, with prominent pectoral and abdominal muscles. Between his shoulder blades on his back was an odd-looking tattoo which appeared to be an eye surrounded by an odd-birdlike symbol, all contained within the points of a shining crescent moon. It was a queer thing to be sure, but Shadyn never had to look at it so he often forgot it was even there. He began to wipe the watery excess from his body, letting his torso dry in the cool ocean air. His reluctance to undress in Rene's presence had been overcome by his discomfort at his clothing weighing what felt like a thousand pounds more than they should. His discarded clothing lay over Soltia and Lunaras at his feet. "I speak instead of the pangs of an infatuation being betrayed, of an affection lost on a wayward soul. I would caution you to allow yourself to be so easily attached to anybody, as you should only trust those you deem truly worthy of that trust. You never know what might lie beneath the surface, and if you allow yourself to become too entangled and are betrayed...such is true pain. You are yet young...but one day you will understand what it is like to live with a broken heart." Shadyn's golden eyes narrowed a bit further, looking a bit fierce with the scar slashed over the right one. His eyes barely left Rene throughout his busy undressing. Betrayal, that was what truly hurt him. Being betrayed by someone he held dear. That was what he felt, oh...she understood. A sad day for him it was. "Instead of saying cryptic things, you...you should've told me that sooner..." She said, though she knew she had more weaknesses, though she never really thought about them until now. It was not a wonder that people similar to ehr stayed where they could defend themselves properly. She began to hear the sounds of clothing, ruffling about and she turned to see him undressing himself, which immediately caused her blush rather furiously, looking a deeper blue against her lighter blue skin. "W-Wha...Shadyn...! You could've just asked me to extract the water from your clothes or something...y-you didn't have to...undress..." She quickly sat down, but averted her gaze from him, as if he was too bare for her to look at directly. Well, honestly it wasn't a bad thing, he could've gone further of course. Her blue eyes finally rested on his, finding his colden orbs to be staring at her. "I'm the last person that would betray anyone. Besides, I know not how to, and I don't want to learn. If I make friends than I would be there for them no matter what. I'd be there for you, you know that. And...i'm sure that....if i had a...significant other...I would never leave him. I would hold him dear and close...and I would protect him with my life. For he would be my salvation...and why would I want to betray the one person that makes me feel....happy, satisfied, desirable, and loved?" Her eyes softened considerably, considered she ment it all, besides, she had never lied before. "I may be overly prone to getting hurt, since I happen to trust people too much, but at least I know that I am true inside and out. I hold no evil's I am simply....myself. I wish to see the good in everyone, but I have no doubt that there are evil people. I promise you, I will be careful when I leave this haven." She had wanted to say that she wished he would go with her, but instead kept her mouth shut over it, simply looking away from him again. |

She seemed to be a little put off by his sudden lack of clothing, judging from the way she had trouble meeting his eyes and how she spoke with a sudden stutter. It wasn't all that surprising. He had known she would probably react strangely to the sight. He hadn't particularly wanted to strip down a bit, but frankly extracting the water from his clothing wasn't as easy as he would have liked and he disliked having to ask for help. Shadyn was slightly socially lacking, having spent so much time all on his lonesome with only a fiery osprey to keep him company. The Angelus ran a hand through his hair, which continued to drip on his shoulders. At least, for once, his bangs stayed out of his eyes. "You misunderstand me." Shadyn sank onto his haunches and began to pull one of his boots off. His eyes flicked back up in Rene's direction as he fiddled with it. "It's not you who I am afraid of betraying anyone." Shadyn succeeded in pulling off the thoroughly soaked boot and turned it upside down, releasing a large amount of water down onto the rock. A small fish fell out of it an flopped up an down wildly until Shadyn swept it off the rock and back into the ocean. He did the same with the other boot, turning so he sat on the rock with his back to Rene. He set the boots next to his clothing to dry off, then lay his forearms casually over his upended thighs. His golden irises faced out to see, glassy in the light of Luna's frosty countenance. His skin was a pale pallor, luminescent under Luna's gaze. "It's not you I'm afraid of at all." His voice had taken on a misty, almost dreamy quality. With that, Shadyn pushed himself back to his feet and lurched forward, arching his body out into a rather graceful dive. His body sliced between the waves and vanished into the frothy ocean for a long moment, before Shadyn's head finally surfaced. He blinked his eyes to clear them of saltwater and shook his head vigorously, casting glistening droplets every which way. He gazed up at Rene, who yet sat perched on the rock he had just jumped off of. "Well, since you've already taken the liberty of soaking me to the skin, I figure a little midnight swim couldn't hurt me too much. After all, it is considerably easier free of all that clothing." Shadyn still wore his black trousers, but their weight was negligible compared with that of his entire ensemble. He looked up at Rene with a questioning gaze, as if asking her what her next move was to be. He couldn't go with her; that much was virtually certain. However...there was nothing wrong with enjoying the moment while it was here. It was the virtue of being an adventurer, living in the moment. |

"But..Shadyn..I won't betray you. That is my whole point..." She said to him, frowning, ah well it wasn't too much of a big deal. He began to take off his boots, with which she watched his every move, then he simply dove down into the ocean again and she laughed at his playfulness. "Really? Then, by all means joining you would be fun." She said, taking off her white robe, her slender bare arms in view, and the webbing by her elbows. She stretched a little, her arms in the air as she let out a relaxed sigh. She quickly dove down with equal grace and swam undenreath for awhile, her arms wrapped around his torso and pulled him under in a playful way, however she hadn;t let go, wondering what he'd do while she laughed. She had him now, it was all she thought, but it wasn't in a romantic way, it was simply the thought a child would have in a game of tag or some sort of other game. Still, it was fun to loosen up like this. |

She still didn't quite understand. He wasn't afraid of her in the slightest. She was about as frightening to him as a light summer rain. She was refreshing and cool, but she bore not a hint of a frightening thunderclap. No, what he feared was something far more ominous, far more dangerous, and far more real. The blackness that tainted a storm cloud, the long shadows over the sky at twilight, the void at the center of a candleflame. The corruption that made him a Traitor to Heaven, the corruption that had lay in his heart since it had throbbed out its first beat in his mother's womb. Shadyn wasn't at all afraid of Rene. His fear was of himself. Shadyn tread water fairly easily as he watched Rene toss off her white robe an perform a perfect swan dive into the water. He watched her swim easily beneath the water, only to surface and tackle him playfully and drag him beneath the waves. Shadyn mimicked her playful attitude by thrashing about, but it was rather awkward for him to be sure. He hadn't really...played...at least not for a while. In fact, he judged it had been a couple of centuries at least. He carefully evaded her chilled grasp and kicked his way back to the surface, leaving swirling bubbles behind in his wake. He broke the surface and tread water away from Rene, spitting out a bit of salt water that had made its way into his mouth. "Now now, be nice. Not everyone is as...natural in the water as you are. I'm like a bird with wet feathers." Shadyn felt slightly...uncomfortable. He wasn't entirely sure why. Maybe it had something to do with the scantily clad water maiden who was so keen for physical contact, and who moved as gracefully through the water as a dolphin. He did find the water comforting, but at the same time he had a feeling that the longer he stayed near Rene, the more attached to him she was going to grow. It was already clear that she had no intentions of leaving his side. That was certainly a disconcerting notion. Still...she did hold an odd, exotic attraction that kept him from simply up and leaving. Perhaps it was just his natural attraction to the female species that was doing it, but he couldn't help but let his eyes linger on her smooth, shapely blue form and the way her dress covered just enough to be modest but still keep things interesting. Fortunately, she didn't seem to be conscious of sexual attraction between them, or she would probably be acting in a significantly more seductive manner. He was fine with playing with her in the water a bit, but if that playing became playing around in a different manner, there could be some issues. For it wasn't Rene that he feared would hurt him, but Shadyn himself who he was afraid would end up harming them both. In such a way that could not be so easily healed as a cut or a battle scar. But, for the moment, he had lost sight of her. The night waters were Rene's home, and though his golden gaze carefully scanned the water all around him, there seemed to be no sign of the aquatic maiden. Where had she gone? |

A soft giggle was heard behind him, but a pair of cool arms wrapped around his torso again, however they did not move at the moment. Her face leaned in and rested itself by his shoulder, before her lips pressed themselves against his neck yet not exactly a kiss, but a strong brush. She hadn't truly felt what it was like for her bare skin to feel against his own, two feelings bouncing against each other, cool and warm. "Looking for me?" She asked whispering by his ear, a giggle following afterwards. "...your body is warm...it's as if..everything you are contradicts with myself. ...and...you're surprisingly very plushie...like a doll, and yet you're physically fit all the same." Her fingers trailed over his warm, bare skin, her cool fingers tracing his abdominals and then up to his pectorals and such. Her hands were curious, just like she was. "Am I making you uncomfortable? I am simply...curious...will you permit me to explore this rather warm place that I has come to know is named Shadyn?" She asked, rather sweetly, and yet she sounded seductive all the same. Her hands stopped moving and rested over his neck, leaning the side of her head to his, as if he was a soft auburn pillow. "Please...?" She asked, almost kissing his ear, surprisingly she was seductive and barely realized, though she'd know soon if he had a good reaction. |

Shadyn continued to tread water, his chin every few seconds dipping slightly beneath the surface of the water before rising back out of it. It was more difficult to keep your head above water in the tumultuous ocean than in calmer, freshwater areas. Rene didn't seem to have a problem, as she appeared to have vanished into the ocean depths without a trace. Part of him envied her for her freedom of movement in an area when he was so...awkward, but he knew that if she ever saw his wings she would have to wonder what it was like in the clouds. He didn't have much time to ponder the notion, though, as in the next instant he heard the aquatic girl's characteristic giggle from behind him. But before Shadyn could turn, her arms were wrapped tightly around him and her voice was filtering through the water that had stubbornly lodged itself in his ear. "Looking for me?" The next thing he knew, there was the pressure of her cool lips against his neck and the gentle electricity of her hands perusing his chest. Shadyn almost froze in the water such that his nostrils dipped beneath the surface for an instant, but in the next moment he was floating again just fine. The first thing he actually noticed was that he could, in fact, feel her touch. It might not seem like that big of a deal to most, but to one whose sense of touch was dormant most all the time, this was groundbreaking indeed. It was something that tended to happen when he became...emotionally involved. It was a feeling that sent his alarm bells ringing yet again. Her fingers were as cool as the ocean water surrounding them both, and the way she explored his body could be described as simply heavenly. "Am I making you uncomfortable? I am simply...curious...will you permit me to explore this rather warm place that I have come to know is named Shadyn? Please?" Okay, if there's one thing I'm familiar with, it's seduction. How exactly do I put on the breaks here? The problem was, though he was afraid of where this might lead, he wasn't sure how to work his way out of Rene's grasp this time without hurting her feelings even worse than he had before. The girl was obviously becoming terminally infatuated with him, for a reason he still couldn't exactly pin down. It was obvious from the way she was nearly kissing his ear and her hands were finding every curve of his musculature that she was interested in him beyond the level of friends. This...disconcerted him, to say the least. In coming to these cliffs, he hadn't intended to become locked in an increasingly sexual interlude with a creature somewhat similar to a mischievous water nymph. And now, he had few ideas on how to smoothly extract himself from the situation. It wasn't helping at all that, despite his misgivings about the whole ordeal, this was becoming quite pleasant indeed. Rene's body was luxuriously soft and cool, pressing gently against his back. Her breath was like the lick of a wind fairy on his newly sensitive skin. Her hands were...well he didn't want to go into those hands. It was all he could do to actually tread water, let alone try to resist that slithering touch. Words also had a difficult time coming to him as well, so he placated himself with the only one he seemed to be able to come up with. "...Rene..." |

He seemed silent, as she looked at him by his shoulder, however one word did utter from his lips, her name. She knew what he was probably trying to do, trying to say, but...she just didn't want to let go. She feared he'd leave if she did, well, no that was just an assumption. She longed for this man, yearned, on every level. It didn't matter if it was clearly emotional needs she wanted, but also physical. Physical, hmm she wondered how that'd turn out... "I know what you're thinking." She withdrew her arms, but she moved infront of him, moving close that way, but doing nothing 'seductive yet. "I can't take it anymore. I know I can't come with you, however...I will wait for you....forever just so I can see and feel you there next to me again." She didn't sound crazed or anything, she sounded completely normal and well, hopelessly falling for her complete opposite. Her hands placed themselves on his cheek, a gentle cool caress to his warm flesh. "I know that you...probably don't have feelings for me, seeing as how you just want to leave or won't permit me to truly get close with you, but I cannot stand that any longer." She looked at him closely, into his golden orbs with her blue. She however smiled at thier closeness, before leaning in and placing her lips upon his, a kiss of longing it was, sweet, cool, oh how she had wanted this. Her eyes closed softly, enthralled in her own pleasure, she had hoped he would respond back, but she doubted it, seeing as how she thought he didn't have any feelings for her whatsoever. |

Shadyn was still trying to piece together the right words to express exactly what he felt about this whole situation. His mind was having enough trouble with the cool caress of her hands exploring his bare torso. Words seemed reluctant to want to come with such ...distractions to worry about. There was also the queer feeling of waves of heat beginning to roll over him. Despite himself, his body was reacting quite strongly to Rene's touch. It seemed he was attracted to her on some level, but precisely what that level was stubbornly eluded him. For the moment he just focused on keeping his head above water, both literally and in the sense that he did his best to keep his wits about him. As he was still searching his mind for the best solution to this whole equation, Rene took the opportunity to release her grip around his waste but slip in front of him instead. It was astonishing how quickly Shadyn could see an enemy's attack coming and respond in battle, but how sluggish his reaction to Rene's subtle change in position was. Before he knew it, her deep blue eyes, glistening like the mottled surface of the ocean beneath a cloudless sky, met his twin golden suns. And once that happened, he found it required an act of will that he couldn't for the life of him seem to summon to look away. Why hurt her feelings, after all? His mind was full of rationalizations as to why it was okay to gaze back into those eyes...get lost in them... "I can't take it anymore. I know I can't come with you, however...I will wait for you....forever just so I can see and feel you there next to me again." How could they have gone from playful banter to such an intimate statement so quickly? It seemed so quick that Shadyn's mind, in a misty state not so different from being drunk, couldn't seem to register it properly. There was conflict within him, conflict overwhelming. As powerful and strong of will that the great Seraph was, he could not even so much as look away from those eyes. Why? Could it be that on some level, he wanted this? Once he hit that realization, things started to come a bit back into focus. Shadyn just needed to latch onto a bit of understanding as to how...why...this was happening so quickly. His eyes studied hers carefully, noting in them a growing, warm desire. A powerful desire, powerful enough that it was the driving force behind the pressure of her body against his. Where he was conflicted, he could see that she was quite sure what she wanted. She wanted him, in more than one sense. And the sense that she seemed particularly interested in at the moment was the physical. That was obvious, from the way her hand stroked the side of his face, which wore a rather perplexing expression. It was something akin to bewilderment. "I know that you...probably don't have feelings for me, seeing as how you just want to leave or won't permit me to truly get close with you, but I cannot stand that any longer." "Rene--" Just as he was about to utter the words that had at last found their way into the forefront of his mind, she sealed his lips by suddenly darting her head in and stopping his mouth with a kiss. It was a kiss of surprising passion, and Shadyn watched as her eyes rolled back in her head and fluttered shut with the sheer pleasure she derived from it. His own eyes widened for a moment as his brain struggled to cope with the alarmingly advanced situation, but in the heat of the moment his rationalizations won out at last. His eyes slowly closed as his mouth began to move with hers, returning the kiss as his hands found her hips, sliding over them and finding them to be delightfully curved and firm. Her lips were so invigoratingly cool and inviting. Despite himself, Shadyn drank her in, absorbing every hint of physical affection she was offering. His arms held her more tightly against him, delighting in the cool pressure of her perfect form. The kiss deepened quickly, and Shadyn even allowed himself to become momentarily lost in it. After all...why not enjoy this for what it is? Why hurt her feelings when she had the courage to make the first moves? Of course...it's just a kiss after all...a luscious, delicious kiss... |

She felt like this was the one moment in her life, that everything was going right. She felt the pressure of his lips returning her kiss, her lips virgin's no longer. The two were enveloped and embraced by the water, chillingly comforting, as the two were warm with passion and what Rene hoped to be, love. She was pleasantly surprised, however, she loved pleasant surprises. He was still warm...even in this cold water. She found her arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer to her if even more possible. One of her hands, in her own fit of her growing passion, played with his locks of auburn hair, but gently and soothingly. She felt, at first, that the kiss was gentle and loving, but she soon found herself wanting more, and already he had deepened the kiss, furthering pointing question in her head of what he fet about her, but she was a quick learner and she was only going on what she felt was appropriate for the situation. As the kiss deepened, her tounge shifted and moved from her currently, busy lips, and teased at his own lips. Her tounge slowly licked his rather, warm, sweet lips of temptation and for what he would probably say 'forbidden' like Ambrosia. She would only tease him, so he'd use his own tounge for more passionate purposes. This was perfect...but, if things escalated...would she regret it? She would have to ask him his feelings, but right now...the pleasure and passion overcome that urge for right now. |

It certainly wasn't the first time Shadyn had kissed a woman, but he had to admit that for a girl who was relatively inexperienced, Rene was able to kindle a kind of fire in him that could easily spread if he didn't afford it the proper notice. He felt her arms loop intoxicatingly around his neck, her hand entangling itself in his wet, auburn hair. For a first kiss, this one was proving quite passionate and, judging from the way Rene's tongue was at work in his own mouth, she was demanding more. And Shadyn could have easily given in for a time and indulged in her sexual desires. The allure was indeed quite tempting to him, to simply allow her to pull him beneath the waves, lost in passion and erotic fervor. To become one with the water itself. It was a prospect many could only dream of, one lost to even the heavens themselves. And one that, despite being so pleasurable, was still so wrong. And that was why, even as Rene was losing herself to the moment, Shadyn used the hands he had placed on her slender hips to push her gently away. It wasn't a rude gesture; their lips parted relatively subtly considering such a surprise move. He gently tugged his head from her arms, feeling her hand slip out of his hair, and let himself float a few feet away from her. He had tried to be as gentle about it as possible, but still he knew Rene would be hurt. This wasn't the first time that night he had had to push her away. Another might ask him...why? Why not lose himself to a night of heated lust and satisfied yearning simply for the sake of doing it? Why did Shadyn insist on tormenting Rene so, when it was obvious the girl was so deeply and thoroughly attracted to him and he couldn't help feeling drawn to her as well? Why make the tears flow from her eyes at his parting, rather than satisfy her longing and give her a taste of the feeling of love? Perhaps someone as young as Rene herself might have done so, but in the end Shadyn knew better than to dabble with the emotions of someone that he knew involvement with was impossible. They inhabited entirely different worlds, and it would not do to have Rene waiting for a day that might never come. In addition, he was not so unseasoned to fall in love at first sight. Life had taught him that emotional entanglements were dangerous and unsavory in his type of lifestyle, so he had all but given them up. Though he was reluctant to purposefully hurt Rene, it was necessary that she feel the pangs of unrequited affection now that she not feel them at a much greater intensity later on in life, because of him. Shadyn sighed and met her eyes with his, their golden depths full of sorrow and compassion but set in their decision. The waves lapped at his chin, indifferent to the happenings around them. "...I'm sorry, Rene. You asked me so ardently if I would be your friend, but I'm going to have to insist it stay at the friend level, at least for the time being. Your life has lasted but for the blink of an eye in the eyes of one such as I, and I can promise you that despite whatever feelings you might have, pursuing a relationship with me is as dangerous as it is unlikely. You're going to end up being hurt. I told you I wander the lands, looking to help those whom I might, and thus I'm helping you by protecting you from any further pain at my hands." Shadyn's voice held a faintly reluctant tone at the beginning but strengthened quickly to reflect the resolve in his eyes. Of the two of them, he was the adult, and so this was his responsibility. |

Her inner core, the 'heart' of herself literally felt sparks of what seemed like fire, completly contradicting her element. She kept kissing him passionately, yearning for more of his touch, to satisfy her need of intimate togetherness, however, her whole world felt as if it was crashing down as he pushed her away, even if just gently. She was...baffled, and not in a good sense at all. The ocean around them stayed completely still, quiet,...mournful. She stared at him with surprise in her eyes, and then her face began to scrunch up with various amounts of emotions involved, all negative ones. After awhile, her face took an unemotional facial expression, though it did show sadness if you looked into her extremely disappointed and hurt eyes. Her eyes closed halfway, tears dripping down her eyelids. She didn't need to say anything, to show him how she felt about the situation. She said nothing more, but her head began to sink underneath the water, her form falling slowly to the bottom, she was freely weeping bitterly under the water. the moonlight caught her face, now more scrunched up with bitter sadness and horrible continuous rejection. It pained her so badly, and she...wouldn't say anything more to him. |

Indeed, words were irrelevant now. Rene's bereaved eyes, flowing with tears and squinting shut as if unwilling to so much look at him, spoke plenty of her emotional state. Shadyn's expression did not change, but he couldn't deny that he felt a certain pang in his chest as he watched her slowly slip beneath the waves, consumed by the ocean of her lamentation. Shadyn watched her form slowly fall deeper into the ocean until it was enshrouded by the dark water. His head bowed with a sober look. He wasn't proud of what he had done tonight, allowing the young, impressionable maiden to become infatuated with him, but sometimes in life the right thing to do was not necessarily easy. If Rene thought the pain she felt now was intense, weeping at the bottom of the ocean beneath his kicking feet, she had much to learn about the ways of life and the nature of love. For it is in love that lives one of life's greatest ironies...the one you care fore most will make you cry the most tears. And perhaps that is not so bad, for sometimes it seems our eyes need to be cleansed by tears so that we can see life with a clearer view. Regardless of what Rene wanted, her mind was yet young and blind to the agony the world could induce in those who were not careful. It was his job to shield her from the pain that love could cause. She saw only the here and now, the immediate, but Shadyn's world-weary eyes could see far further than that. This was a relationship that simply couldn't happen. Shadyn was not, and never would be, a creature of water. Rene could never sprout wings and become of light and fire as he was, or walk the earth with impunity as he often did. Regardless of what feelings existed between the two, any sort of attachment was doomed from the start. Sighing quietly into the night, Shadyn slowly made his way back to the rock on which lay his clothing. The ocean itself seemed to have fallen silent with bafflement, like an impartial third party observing a heated quarrel. The Nephillim pulled himself out of the water, rivulets of sea water dripping off of his body and splashing over the dark stone. He slumped down on the rock with another sigh escaping his lips, hunching his back and resting his elbows on his knees. He ran both hands up and over his face, smoothing his soaked hair back on his head, and blinked the water from his eyes. After another long moment of silence and reflection, he silently reached for one of his boots. Though his mind was sure he had taken the right path at this crossroads, his heart still went out to Rene, giving painful throbs in his chest that served as a constant reminder of the cost of human feeling. |

Never had Rene cried so much in the entirety of her life, even if just seven years of life. She laid there, upon her rock, however, she felt that.....after her tears had slowly gone away, she had to talk to him. Figure out...why. She couldn't be taking this badly like this, but...oh she loved him so. She had to say something before he left...she just had to. Her inner core ached and throbbed just as much as his, if more. With much hesitation at her part, the water pulled her upwards, a powerful current it was. She stood upon the water's surface, face once more devoid of emotion. A doll of water without a smile. "Why do you still reject me? You're drawn to me, I can feel it why?! Are you afriad to take the risk? You say you want to protect me and yet you're hurting me!" She shouted at him, the ocean now reacting with her anger once again, thrashing around her. "I...will never love again. Love will only hinder and stop me. It will only bring me pain, suffering, and tears...you've taught me that lesson." She turned around, shaking her head. "I will be leaving this place tomorrow...for my own journey. We are no longer friends, we are nothing. I will forget your face. I will forget you ever existed. Because if I saw you again I will cry again, and that is something I must not allow. I wanted your heart...not a friendly lecture." She sighed gently, it was a hard decision on her part, rejecting any love she might encounter in the future, a passionate vow to never be hurt again. "I will be a loner. Just like you. And I will learn to accept it and like it. Maybe then I will understand the true reason why you reject me." She regretted kissing him now, regretted ever meeting and falling for him so quickly. She started to dance once more, singing that same song of love lost. |

Shadyn had both of his boots on along with his long-sleeved hooded gray shirt by the time Rene suddenly broke the surface of the water again. She stood atop the waves as easily as if it were solid ground, something Shadyn had still not gotten used to seeing. At the time, he was pulling on his sleeveless white surcoat. It flapped out behind him not unlike a cape in the sea breeze, which had suddenly decided to pick up. The Angelus stood perched on the top of the rock and turned his head to gaze in Rene's direction when she reappeared. The upturned collar of his cloak gave him a guarded appearance, and the golden eyes that shone in the darkness in Rene's direction betrayed nothing of his inner feeling. His face was calm almost with grim quality, the expression of one who had resigned himself to a course and now he had to suffer the consequences of his actions. "Why do you still reject me? You're drawn to me, I can feel it why?! Are you afraid to take the risk? You say you want to protect me and yet you're hurting me!" The words were downright enraged, and took on a chilled edge with the whistle of the wind. Shadyn's damp hair blew all around his head, along with the similarly wet surcoat which scattered flecks of glistening water droplets every which way. Shadyn's expression did not so much as flicker, remaining continually constant. He made no attempt to respond to her verbally, simply gazing at her with listening eyes, but ones that were still impassive and enigmatic. It was as if the "windows to the soul" had been boarded up. "I...will never love again. Love will only hinder and stop me. It will only bring me pain, suffering, and tears...you've taught me that lesson." Shadyn now reached down and gripped the dark brown leather wrapping that usually strapped Lunaras to the back of his hips as well as granting him a place to put various other items he required on his journeys. He wrapped it tightly around his waist, pinning his surcoat down at the hips. The tails continued to fly about his legs at the whims of the wind, which continued to slowly grow in ferocity. His eyes were not on Rene at this point, but it was easy to tell that his attention was still on her. "I will be leaving this place tomorrow...for my own journey. We are no longer friends, we are nothing. I will forget your face. I will forget you ever existed. Because if I saw you again I will cry again, and that is something I must not allow. I wanted your heart...not a friendly lecture." Now the Nephillim reached for his most treasured possessions, Soltia and Lunaras. Taking hold of Lunaras at the top of the scabbard with his left hand, he carefully worked the blade into the leather wrapping at the back of his hips until he was satisfied with its position. When he was done, Lunaras was securely lashed horizontally across the rear of his waist, with the hilt jutting out at his left side. He then picked Soltia up by his bandolier, which was attached to his scabbard, and strapped it across his chest from right shoulder to left hip. Soltia's hilt poked up from his typical position over his right shoulder. He continued to face away from Rene, and his mouth remained silent, but that didn't mean he wasn't listening to Rene's words. "I will be a loner. Just like you. And I will learn to accept it and like it. Maybe then I will understand the true reason why you reject me." Shadyn yet said nothing, but at least now his head twisted back in Rene's direction. The wind had reached a considerable force by now and was whipping the tails of his cloak about in all directions. His eyes were scintillating golden pools in the night, and now there could be seen just a hint of sadness tinging the edge of the tallow irises. Still, though, Shadyn's countenance and form did not change from its grave expression, and even in his silence his adamantine resolve was all the more evident. Any answers I could give you would be worthless. You must find them for yourself, in your own life. Using me as an avenue to vent your frustrations with this world will accomplish nothing. There was nothing left to be said. Shadyn had already given her his reasons. Anything she yet did not understand, she would need to divulge through her own experience. His eyes, glistering in the oceanic scene, observed grimly as Rene began to sing and dance in the same manner as she had before they had just met. It was ironic that she should understand just a shred more about what it was she sang about so beautifully when it wasn't long ago at all that she had last let those words leave her lips. Shadyn didn't have too long to ponder the situation, though, as it was mere moments after Rene began that her singing was joined by a sudden fell shriek from above. Looking upward, Shadyn saw Ira at last in flight once again, soaring away from the cliffs and out to sea. She had apparently made her peace with the energies at work in the Glass Cliffs and was ready to move on. Ira always was an impatient one. At the sound of her screech, Shadyn brought his own wings forth with a sudden blaze of fire. Great flames burst from his back for only an instant before morphing into two pairs of great, angel wings, composed of overall gray feathers that glittered in many different colors under the moonlight. The two on top were larger and burst from his shoulder blades, while the others came from the small of his back and were smaller, more sharply defined, and more aerodynamic. Shadyn gave Rene one last look, a look that spoke of leagues of hidden pain beneath the calm exterior, but yet said nothing. No goodbye, no farewell, not a sound other than the beat of his wings. The wings pushed powerfully against the wind, sending eddies of air all around him, and sent the Nephillim high into the air quickly. Within moments, he had joined Ira and the two were but specks climbing into the velvety sky, flying into Luna's silvery visage. All that was left was a single feather, glittering with an untold power and larger than that of a typical bird of prey, fluttering down to land delicately on the surface of the water, sending minuscule ripples all over its mottled surface.
