Iracaudia flared her wings and alighted gently upon the smooth curves of the glass cliffs. Her sharp talons clicked against the hard, translucent rocks as she turned about, admiring the the beautiful swirls and the delicate curve down to the ocean far below. The sea lapped hungrily against glass, which made for a unique look that contrasted sharply with the water rushing against the rocks of the more distant cliffs. It was twilight, and the deep red eye of Sol winking over the horizon in the distance formed glittering, scintillating patterns all over the glass cliffs. That was nothing compared to the sight that was said to dominate this area at night. The sight of these very cliffs lighting up with a fiery magic, one that was said to linger from the power of a phoenix's rebirth. It was for this legend that Ira had come to this place, and Shadyn had followed. The Angelus stepped gracefully from the gritty, rocky earth onto a surface of smoothest glass, allegedly melted by the divine fires of rebirth. He was dressed in his typical traveler's attire. On his torso was a long-sleeved, light gray shirt with a sleeveless dark brown leather wrapping. On his legs were black trousers, leather calf braces, and leather traveler's boots. His arms bore leather arm bracer wraps, with gloves on his hands. The whole outfit was topped with a white, sleeveless surcoat that stretched from its upturned collar all the way down to his lower calves. The hood that was attached to his shirt was pulled back at the moment to reveal spiky, unruly auburn hair and a pair of golden eyes that it was said could pierce to the very soul. Reflected in those golden irises was the burning red face of Sol, preparing for his nighttime slumber. His expression was one of serene calm. He knew he was in a place of strange and powerful magic, and so he restricted himself to quiet reverence. Aurion didn't even speak to Ira as he came to a stop about ten feet from where she had alighted. He merely gazed at the osprey, who was likewise silent as her head swiveled back and forth, taking in the sights. For a long moment, there was not a sound to be heard but the sea breeze, which whipped past Shadyn's form and whipped his cloak back and forth. Ira's feathers ruffled with its passage, but she made no attempt to straighten them as she was normally obsessive about doing. Shadyn used the silence to take in his surroundings for himself. The manastream was indeed flowing strangely in this place. It was laden with eddies and strange, reversing currents. It was clear to him that this place bore within it a majestic quality that was seen so rarely in the world that many assumed it to be nonexistent. It really could be that one of Ira's brethren roosts here. Legend told of a great phoenix that lived across the ocean in a great mountain range, but which migrated here every so often to perform its famous ritual of fiery death and rebirth. That magic was said to linger in these very cliffs, glazing them over and imbuing them with the power of the arcane. The magic of a phoenix was ancient and unique; it was beyond even that of the great and proud dragons. It was this magic that surrounded Ira herself, and which seemed to permeate the very air which flowed into her lungs and those of her companion. You see, none in Avalon were aware of it, but Ira herself was more than she appeared to be. The Divine Flames truly do run through these cliffs. One of my kin has chosen this as his Genisia. We must be respectful, and not disturb this sacred place. You can even tell the gender of the Phoenix? Yes. We sons and daughters of the celestial fires bear a connection that only we can understand. His essence is enough to tell me much of what there is to know about him. I could tell you his favorite food as well, if you like. This was a magic beyond the kind that Shadyn called forth. This was beyond even the powers of a celestial such as himself. He gazed around with a quiet reverence in his expression as Ira's subtle, feminine voice faded into the depths of his mind and she took on a state of quiet meditation. To an onlooker, it would seem as if they had been silent the whole time. Their connection allowed them to speak into each other's minds. It was an intimate sort of bond that they shared, but even it would not allow Shadyn to understand quite what was on his companion's mind. Ira had been with him for...for what seemed like his whole life. And yet, he still learned more about her with each passing day. Such was the nature of friendship, a fire that burned with intensity that constantly yearned to spread further. Shadyn let his closest friend have her moment of silence and took the opportunity to quietly step back and away from her. It would be best not to disturb her, as this was clearly an important moment. He sank into a kneeling position, with the seat of his pants resting on his feet. His eyes gazed out over the horizon at Sol as he set, quietly shutting his bleary eye against the world. The sea seemed to welcome the sunset with wonderful splendor, the red's and oranges melting together as if the sky itself was one big roaring flame of colorful amazement. It was at this wonderful mix of opposites as fire and water mixed with each other, that the embodiment of water, the one figure that held the mastery of water's fury in her delicate hands was dancing upon the ocean's surface. The woman seemed completely content with her dancing. Dancing and hips swaying as if she was the water itself. Her arms moved about in slow graceful movements, she was a truly marvelous creature. Her long deep blue locks of hair trailed behind her, wavering around like the tides. Her skin dazzled and sparkled in the setting sun like she was the singlemost sought after treasure of the deep blue. The dress she wore followed her body's movements carefully, blue in color and fitting for such a sea queen. The white robe she wore, filled with numerous designs of water, it was light and flowed, embracing her tiny body and flowing outwards as she twirled. She began dancing in a circle, intricately swaying, as if she could outdo any man who joined her. No woman could twist and sway so beautifully. Well, none of them could dance upon the water's surface, so touche. After a few moments, her lovely voice rang out amongst her dance of aquatic grace. "Bend your branches green along the stream that runs to sea, Listen to my plea, Hear me willow and weep for me. Gone my lovers dream Lovely summer dream Gone and left me here to weep my tears into the stream Sad as I can be Hear me willow and weep for me Whisper to the wind and say that love has sinned; Left my heart a-breaking, and making a moan. Murmur to the night to hide its starry light, So none will see me sighing and crying all alone. Weeping willow tree, Weep in sympathy, Bend your branches down along the ground and cover me. When the shadows fall, hear me willow and weep for me. Oh, Weeping willow tree, Weep in sympathy, Bend your branches down along the ground and cover me. When the shadows fall, hear me willow and weep for me." Her dance was slow as well as the song she sang. She sounded like a Nymph or a Siren singing a song of lost love, it fit the dance, and she had a calm expression upon her features. And yet that was how she felt, alone and crying often. She had no idea she wa sprobably being watched, but it wasn't her problem. Where the sea or ocean was, she'd follow like a loyal servant. After all, she was a water elemental. |

It was as Shadyn turned that his ears suddenly picked up the first notes of what seemed to be a song, floating along with the sea breeze and the rush of the water against the glassy cliff face. His head swiveled to locate the source of the sound. It was an enchanting melody, one that had a tendency to captivate those who heard it, like Siren's song. His golden eyes, glowing with the reflected light of the setting sun, searched the edges of the cliff and the visible surrounding area. The lyrics seemed to rise from the rush of the tides, from the depths of the ocean itself. He couldn't see over the lip of the cliff, but he had a strong feeling that whoever...whatever...was creating the mesmerizing aria was doing it from the ocean's surface, further down the Glass Cliffs from his position. But how was that possible? Ira had settled down on the edge of the cliff, sitting as if she were in her nest. Her eyes were closed. He knew she wasn't sleeping, but meditating on the magic that surrounded the both of them. In all the years they had traveled together, they had never come across magic such as this, the fiery presence of one of her own kin hanging in the air as thick as a warm mist. Shadyn didn't wish to disturb her, but he could feel a shift in the manastream that intrigued him. As fiery as the mana in this region was, it had been joined by an opposing but complimentary presence. Shadyn blinked as he cast one more look around before he made his way quickly along the cliff. He left Ira to her reflections. She deserved a moment to herself. When Shadyn was far enough away from Ira that he felt confident he wouldn't disturb her, he moved carefully towards the edge of the cliff. The glass was remarkably slick, and though he had many talents, swimming was one of the things he didn't have much opportunity to practice. All the while he was listening closely to the ebb and flow of the mystical lamentation, a watery, aquatic melody of lost love that seemed to his ears as delicate as the popping of tiny bubbles. He could hear the entrancing lyrics clearly now, and though it was still difficult to discern the location of their source, he judged that he was probably right above it. "Oh, Weeping willow tree, Weep in sympathy, Bend your branches down along the ground and cover me. When the shadows fall, hear me willow and weep for me." When Shadyn at last reached the cliff's edge and looked down, he was finally able to see where these majestic strains were coming from. Far below, beyond where the water lapped against the side of the cliff, there was a young maiden of incredible beauty dancing on the surface of the water. If that wasn't strange enough, the dance was just as enchanting as the words that flowed from her as easily as water over the top of a rock. It was slow, but graceful and majestic in its movements. There was a look of serenity on her face, her dress, as blue as the ocean itself, flowed with the movements of her lithe and lustrous body. Shadyn wasn't sure who or what she was, but she resonated powerfully with the august immensity of the ocean. Though he was a creature of light and fire, Luna was strong in her as she was in him. Perhaps it was her dance or her song, which were each summoning more and more of his attention by the moment, but despite his own elemental alignments, he felt an odd kinship with her. Shadyn sank to a seated position on the edge of the cliff, his legs dangling freely over the ocean. The air caught his wild hair and blew it about his face, but he barely felt it. His scintillating eyes were on the beautiful water nymph, even as Sol finally finished slipping over the horizon and the glass beneath him began to glow with a growing, fiery power. |

The water churned and swayed as if commanded by her body, it sparkling with life, the life from the great sun that furthered its beauty. Her song however ended as her body stood stil amongst the water's surface, a breeze toying with her hair, blowing it around, looking as if one long deep blue blanket embraced her back. Her form steadily leaned back, as if losing ehr footing and falling backwards slwoly. Her eyes were pleasantly closed, as the water embraced her form, acting as a cushion as if she was suspended in midair and the water was the only thing that kept her from sinking into the depths of the sea. Her lovely arms wrapped around her body, a softened smile of satisfaction in her face, but until she opened her softened deep blue eyes did she notice the man staring upon her with awe and interest she stared at him with slight confusion and embarassment. A red flush appearing over her pastel blue cheeks. "I..were you watching...?" She asked, turning around quickly, hiding her face from the man. She suddenly felt conscious over herself. She couldn't make friends with a perfectly normal man such as he. Besides, everything about her was ugly. She looked down at the floor, feeling her self-esteem begin to plummet. The moon was quickly rising into the sky, and the light embraced her deep blue eyes, causing them to shine as well as her skin, as if her body was made up of scales, but they looekd completely unnoticeable even up close. "Please...don't look at me. I am not worthy of being looked upon by anyone. I am...far too different and...disgusting..." She looked down at her bare feet, sniffing a little with her sudden bout of sadness. The only thing he could truly like of her was probably her voice and her dancing, but she always thought she wasn't beautiful. It was a shame, as she was exotically beautiful in her own way. If only she realized it. |

Shadyn watched on as what he assumed was a water nymph finished her dance of lost love and fell back upon the waves, her motions so serene and carefree that they made him jealous. He wished he could feel so...unbounded. So at peace, like the ocean beneath a cloudless sky. The skies appeared peaceful, but in reality they were as tumultuous as land beset by a hurricane. Such was Shadyn's nature, to appear constantly calm and collected when actually, deep inside, there existed a continuous state of conflict. His eyes blinked with sorrow for the childhood he had never had. But as the girl wrapped herself in her smooth, pastel arms, she opened her eyes and gazed upon him with a look of sudden embarrassment. "I..were you watching...?" Shadyn was taken by surprise and wasn't exactly sure how to react to the situation. The dance of blade and magic was so simple; it was an easy thing to react instantly to the opponent's movements. However...summoning the words necessary to calm a suddenly very self-conscious young woman was beyond him. His mouth opened, but no sound seemed to come out. Instead, he took a deep breath and tried to summon the words. As he did so, the moonlight caught her and she was rendered ablaze in a silvery glow. She was suddenly looking almost...sad. The silvery moonlight was glowing majestically in her eyes, and though she was no longer singing and her voice was filled with sadness, it still reached Shadyn's ears as delicately as the lick of the tide against the sandy beach. "Please...don't look at me. I am not worthy of being looked upon by anyone. I am...far too different and...disgusting..." At last, Shadyn's own voice seemed to come to him. It was deep and masculine, but it's tone was cautious. He didn't want to try to upset the girl any more. The distance that separated them was considerable, so he spoke up in order that she might hear him. "I'm sorry. I heard your song and it was so captivating...and you so beautiful an pulchritudinous...I couldn't help but--" At that moment, Shadyn chose to shift in his seated position as if to alleviate the discomfort he felt. Unfortunately, the glass lip of the cliff was more slick than he realized, and he lost his balance. A futile lunge for the edge of the cliff later, he was tumbling through the air, taken by the force of gravity. He didn't even have time to summon his wings, as after a few scant moments he hit the water and vanished beneath its surface with a large splash. A few moments later, his soaked head emerged from the frothy water and he shook the wet hair out of his eyes, kicking and doing his best to stay afloat even in his heavy leather clothing. "...fall off the cliff into the ocean." Shadyn finished his sentence with a wry, annoyed tone to his voice. He spat salt water out of his mouth and shook his head. again, his eyes blinking to clear themselves of water. A creature of the skies, falling off a cliff into the ocean. It was unheard of, unthinkable. Some Angelus I am. He raised an eyebrow at the aquatic maiden who lay on the surface of the water. "You complain of being different, but it is I who can barely keep my head afloat in the water. Who is out of place here?" |

Rene stared down at her feet still, but she turned to look at the man as he spoke. He voice was deep and masculine like she imagine and it suited him, however he looked cautious of something. What was it? However, she found that his compliment made her slighty uneasy, but it ws welcomed in her own way. His words did make her self-esteem slowly rise a little and she slowly began to smile. Her smiled looked lovely on her. "T-Thank you...I suppose..." She said rather quietly. "I'm sorry it has been so long since I last communicated with someone. Actually you're probably only the second person i believe. I'm no good with socializing..." And yet she said that whole sentence rather fluidly, running along her soft, calming tone. As soon as he began to fall she quickly ran over to him, water extending and shooting out by the commands of her hands, embracing his body from the neck down and slowly placing him down unto the water's surface, infront of her. "Don't worry, i've blessed you with my powers of water. You can walk on water just as I." She nodded, and bowed with respect. "I've...never talked to a grown man before. It's a little intimidating..." She smiled gently, looking p at him with deep blue eyes. "So, you're different just as I? Does that mean we can be friends...? If we are different than we share a likeness...correct? I dislike being...lonely. I've stayed by the ocean...by the duration of my birth from the ocean itself. You probably think I am a Nymph of sorts, but I am not. I am a water elemental. There is a clear difference. We take different forms, but those of the purest of their element take ona physical form. It is rare, but an example would be myself." "Do you understand?" she asked, her voice quite fluid like the water itself. Her blue eyes never left his, nor did her calming smile. |

This was a situation Shadyn had never thought he'd find himself in. He found himself wrested out of the water by aquatic tendrils, and the next thing he knew he was standing on the ocean's surface just as she did. His eyes blinked, as if slightly bewildered by the fact that the ocean seemed to have suddenly become as hard as the glass he had stood on moments before. He looked down, toeing the frothy waves carefully. His quite extensive lifespan had seen many marvels, but this was a first for him. There was an odd sense of divinity in a being that could walk on water as if it were land. Lunaras was lashed horizontally across the back of his hips, her hilt jutting out on his left side. Her pommel was suddenly luminescent with a blue shimmer, in response to the combination of Luna rising over the horizon and the watery magic that was surrounding him. Lunaras was a silvery, starry blade borne from the frosty power of Luna, and thus was reacting to the celestial power in the air. Her brother Soltia, by contrast, was darkening now that Sol had sunk beneath the horizon. His pommel, poking up over Shadyn's right shoulder, maintained but a shimmer of the glory that filled it during the day. For one who had seemed so shy, the watery maiden sure talked quite a bit. Nevertheless, Shadyn's eyes rose to meet hers for the first time, golden irises meeting deep blue pools of beauty. Her eyes spoke of a carefree youth that had long since left his own, but yet held a depth that reflected that of the ocean, full of hidden treasures and mysteries unknown to the world above the surface. Shadyn's simultaneously reflected the vastness of the skies and the unknown depths of space. Celestial fire burned within them. The two were opposites...but were in a way complimentary. When her smooth voice finished with a question, he nodded in response. "You would be surprised what one such as I can understand. I've seen so much over the years that there is little that I wouldn't understand." He felt a bit awkward at her polite bow. It had been quite a long time since one had treated him with such respect. He did, however, like her smile. It was an expression that lit up her face like the face of Luna herself, and suited her quite well. It was the kind of smile that simply had to be mirrored by those who saw it, and so Shadyn felt the corners of his lips turning up in almost an involuntary grin. She was indeed of a certain exotic, intoxicating beauty. Her form was lustrous, her dress revealed just enough to make one interested. Upon closer inspection, she couldn't be a water nymph. Such creatures were mischievous spirits that did not command the water as freely as she. They were often beautiful, bot not nearly as captivating as this one. "If you mean we are alike because we are different, I would certainly agree with you. Though I am a creature borne of the skies and the earth, of both clay and fire. I'm a fusion of worlds. You find your home in the water...I simply don't have a home." Shadyn's voice was more at ease now; his arms folded loosely over his chest. He was slender of build, more slender than you would normally expect of a swordsman, but his body was very well defined. Though it was difficult to see through the leather outfit he wore, his form bore an untold power within it. As he was sure hers did. Her control over the water was something very intriguing to him. The curves of her body were as smooth and pleasing as those of the bends in a river, and despite himself he found his eyes lingering on them before returning to her eyes. "You may call me Shadyn." Shadyn offered her a gracious little bow in return for her own politeness. |

Rene was beginning to like the presence of this man, growing more comfortable as she talked about nature, the one thing she was heavily devoted to and knowledgeable about. His eyes were rather pretty to delve into by her own and she couldn't stop her smiling. Would she make her first friend tonight? She was absolutely giddy, she would love spending her time having all sorts of fun that friends usually do with him. "Shad...yn? Shadyn...I shall commit it to memory." She said, with a brief nod, oh but then didn't she have to give her own name in response to his? She almost forgot. "In return, my name is Rene." She said, still looking up at him rather calmly and with her innocence in social affairs. He then told her that he understood much, considering how long he has lived and such. She knew he felt different. Different than the human she had seen for the first time in her life. Rene slowly began to frown however, as she heard him say he had no home. no home? How could that be? "Home...? Here..." She paused for a moment. "Then will your home be here?" She asked, smiling sweetly once more. She'd love it if he gave her company. "Though you don't look too....water acquainted...you might not like it here too much if we are opposites as you say." That was a problem. She crossed her arms over her chest and looked to be in deep thought, honestly it looked cute when she was perplexed by small questions like this. However, she wanted to show him something first. Her treasure, her home, her life. "Shadyn...may I show you something? I've never showed it to anyone else And you're my friend...are you not?" She took his hand in hers, noting how warm it was compared to her usually refreshingly cold skin. "Please?" She added, innocently once more, looking up at him as her eyes seemed to sparkle. |

She was a young one, that much was for certain. Her light and airy voice spoke of a cheerful and carefree nature, not unlike a fairy fluttering through a forest. She was one unbesmirched by the slings and arrows of life, one who had seen little hardship and knew only the joys of her own existence. She appeared perhaps in her early twenties, but non-humans rarely were the age they seemed to be. He judged she might actually be even younger. He didn't know much about Water Elementals, only that they were an exceedingly rare breed that most had never even heard of. Perhaps they aged faster than the typical human, which would explain the wide and innocent smile she offered him and the bright, shining eyes that dominated her visage. They stood in stark contrast to Shadyn's golden irises, which were full of the pangs of reality. He appeared actually about her age, but in truth he was far, far older. Old enough to have seen the true faces of life. It had been long since that the innocence had vanished from his tallow gaze, and he imagined the same would happen to hers one day as well. At any rate, her charming nature was like a refreshing drink of water from the long and lonely path he walked. Shadyn still felt a little awkward standing on water and all, with the waves rushing beneath his feet to wash over the Glass Cliffs, but at least his company made him feel a bit more at ease. He hadn't really expected to see anyone out here, particularly not a creature such as this. She was captivating in many ways, starting with her composition. She couldn't be entirely made of water, could she? He supposed it didn't really matter, but the way her eyes shimmered and her skin seemed to change consistency with each passing moment...at one point, he could swear he saw scales like that on a fish. That and the fact that she was quite beautiful. That too. "I've really never had a home. It's difficult to explain, really...it just never seems that I fit in anywhere. I don't have a niche, a habitat, like your kind does. I'm an oddity, of sorts." Shadyn chuckled a bit at her inquiry as to if he would live in the water, as she did. "I don't think it would be very well-suited for me, to be honest with you." He didn't tell her why, yet. Wet feathers...something I'd like to avoid. When she reached out to take his hand, Shadyn unfolded his arms and let her take it, though he had to admit he was a bit surprised. The way she pleaded with him to accompany her was like an eight year-old wanting to show her friend a new toy. He had to admit he was touched, so he offered her a friendly smile. "Of course, Rene. Lead on." ((Ugh >.< not my best work. Sorry, I was busy today and my muse decided to take the day off.)) Edited by Rurouni, Jan 8 2009, 10:31 AM.

"You know...Shadyn..." she paused, eyes looking out amongst the calm waves, the water brushing against her bare feet gently. She looked down with a slight frown, eyes seemingly devoid of that sparkle that gave her her charming innocence. "I don't know how...i'm able to smile...even though...i'm alone. Maybe it's natural...maybe I just...want to do it even if i'm hurting inside. My self-esteem is about as low as the rocks in the deep bottom of the sea, and...my indifference makes me uneasy. ...I've always wanted friends...i've always wanted to be loved...but..." a few drops of water landed upon the water's surface, sending forth soft ripples. She was crying. "I may sound overly childish...but i'm not I promise! I...I just...I barely know anything of the world...how to make friends...none of that. So, I don't want you to think i'm unintelligent or anything...just...I sound curious. My curiosity matches one of a young child. Is all. I wish people understood that and took me seriously." she turned to him and placed her other hand on the same hand she was holding. "I'm...not forcing you to stay with me. However, if you could stay a long time, even if temporary, I would greatly appreciate it." She looked so sad, as if the whole world was crashing down on her entire world, her entire being. |

Rene's emotions shifted as rapidly as the weather out at sea. It was another way that she was juvenile, undeveloped. It wasn't a bad thing; as a matter of fact, Shadyn was considerably jealous of it. She was simply yet green as a bud just breaking the surface of the earth, ignorant to the workings of the world. In body she might be fully matured, but in mind and spirit she was still young. Shadyn was old. Very old. He had seen much that the world had to offer, both good and bad. And still...it was not enough. He blinked and watched a few glistening tears drip from her eyes like falling stars, glistering in the moonlight. Though his tears would not come quite so easily...that didn't mean he didn't sometimes wish they would. As seasoned as Shadyn was, however knowledgeable he might be on the workings of the world, there was a part of him that felt the same way she did. Yearning for the companionship of another beyond a simple embrace. It seemed the nature of the human soul to seek out others of its kind and form bonds and relationships. Shadyn's free hand curled a lock of his wild hair behind his ear, his eyes straying away from Rene's for a moment. He'd spent his whole life looking for exactly what she was crying over...he'd felt such agony over it that his tears were simply exhausted. She was young...she couldn't comprehend the immensity of life's great journey. She simply wanted one thing: a friend. The Nephillim looked down at his hand, held now in-between two of hers. Shadyn's mind mused over what they might feel like. His Angelus lineage was devoid of the sense of touch, and though his hands did possess nerve endings as a result of being born from a human womb, much of the time they did not function. His golden eyes took on their own sombre look, smile fading from his face. He did so yearn for companionship of his own...but with Rene? He'd just met her...and they were from entirely different worlds. He didn't even come near the sea that often...just enough to appreciate its aesthetic appeal. The idea of remaining there for a long time...made the Angelus slightly uncomfortable. Ira and he got along so well because they were kindred spirits, both sky creatures and with divinity in their veins. Could a being of fire and one of water truly mix? Shadyn didn't really know how to answer her offer at first, and so he was silent for a long moment. His eyes strayed over the flecks of froth on the waves, the icy luminescence of the moonlight, the cool, supple form of the water maiden before him. He didn't withdraw his hand from her gasp, and his body stood as perfectly still as a statue while he thought. Then, at last, his golden eyes returned to settle on Rene's deep blue pools, shining like a calm lake under Luna's light. His expression was initially grave, but then one side of his mouth turned up in an encouraging little half-smile. "Why don't you show me this thing you seem so proud of? I do think I'm entitled to it, being your friend and all." |

Rene noticed he was very quiet, deep in his thoughts that she could only imagine to comprehend. However, much like a child for an adult, she wished comfort and she gently took him into a softened embrace. Her cool body touching his more warmer one. It was as if she could melt from the warmth she felt from his body and the comfort she so desperately wanted and was deprived of. Her slender arms, covered by her robe's long sleeves, wrapped themselves around his masculine-formed body, it was as if she clung to him, clung to him for emotions and comfort that she was unfamiliar with. She rested her chin upon his shoulder, and her hair seemed to cover him like a soft blue blanket of cool, soothing comfort. "What? Oh, well..I suppose...but unfortunately, if you dislike water than...well, to tell you the truth. It's underwater, but...it's as if there is a whole other world down there. It's so beautiful..." she paused to move away from him, arms spread out as she twirled gracefully. "There are colorful fish, and coral...and when the sunlight hits the water just right it's as if the whole sea glows. I wish...people understood how beautiful the ocean is, both outside and what lies beneath." She moved back to him again, smiling though one lone tear rested upon her cheek, not bothering to move. "Will you come with me knowing it's under our feet Shadyn?" She asked him rather sweetly, holding out her hand for him to take again. |

Shadyn was somewhat shocked when he looked up to find Rene slipping easily between his arms and enclosing him in a gentle embrace. Initially he looked down at her, not really sure what to make of it. She was lonely and starved for affection, and besides that she was a puerile one. He wondered if she meant the hug entirely in a comforting way, or if she was otherwise attracted to him beyond what she would be to a friend. Though her mind and spirit seemed immature, her body was not. In fact, he once again found himself wishing he could feel the luscious coolness of her effeminate form as his arms moved to encircle her. It was lucky that Ira remained in a meditative slumber on the edges of his consciousness, because if she saw them she would likely begin trying to drill through his skill with her quite sharp beak. She didn't take kindly to strangers, particularly not the women he met on his travels. Shadyn gently stroked Rene's long, blue hair, comforting her with his touch. She was badly in need of companionship, and he saw no problem with giving it to her. It wasn't as if she wanted to make out or anything after all, she just wanted to feel the closeness she so desperately needed. His body, lacking a kinesthetic sense, did not shrink away from her cool, smooth skin or the way she rested her head on his shoulder. Even though he couldn't feel it, he felt himself becoming quite at ease with the young woman's presence. Rene complimented him with her aquatic aura, but rather than it being a conflicting mix the two seemed to mingle quite well. He continued to stroke her hair with one hand even as his other held her gently by the small of her back. Shadyn's voice itself bore evidence of the smile on the mouth it came from, and was spoken in a bit of a hushed whisper, right in the girl's ear. "As long as you'll protect me, I'll follow you wherever you'd like to lead me." Edited by Rurouni, Jan 8 2009, 12:39 PM.

Rene smiled softly to herself, noticing that his arm wrapped around her small back. She felt the first feelings of being secure and being protected. She began to love this feeling immediately, as if this man was a father-figure to her. As if he could keep her safe and give her everything she would desire. Now, she required no real physical needs, except water, but he would give her the emotional needs that she so desperately wanted and deserved. He felt his hand stroke through her soft blue hair and her eyes closed with peace as a gentle cool sigh escaped from her lips. She didn't hesitate to move closer to him, wanting to feel his body closer to hers, to know he was truly there. To wipe her tears, to hold her and comfort her when she felt alone. "Will you protect me also...Shadyn? What if I joined you on your quest for a purpose? So, that...I may find my own?" she pulled away, but only a tad to just look into his eyes. "...I will protect you. I promise." she whispered to him, her smile never leaving her soft face. She had innocent intentions however, but she grew to like being close to this man. Katsujin-ken satsujin-to...

Well this certainly was a pleasurable situation. Shadyn was never one to forget the value of a beautiful woman in his arms, but he was afraid he might be sending the wrong message. The two had just met, but the aquatic girl in his arms was already expressing a desire to accompany him on a more long term basis. It was clear she felt a powerful attraction to him, be it simply attraction out of curiosity or a hint of something else. In her desire for companionship, she was jumping at the chance to assuage her loneliness on a grander scale. There were just a couple of problems with that, ones that Shadyn would have trouble raising to her because of her relative immaturity and obvious sensitivity. Aside from the fact that Shadyn went near large bodies of water relatively rarely, excepting the streams that Ira preyed upon fish to eat, alone was how he lived. He knew of no other way to subsist. Shadyn was a lonely man to be sure, but it was how he chose to live. He distanced himself from others not because he was shy or unsociable, but because of a far deeper, darker, graver reason. It was for that reason that once again drove Shadyn's eyes away from hers, though they were mere inches from his own now and it was difficult to avoid them. She was too young...too naive to understand. She saw only a friendly face that would hold her...would protect her. What she didn't grasp was that things, particularly people, are often not what they seem to be. Mighty though Shadyn was, there were things he could not protect Rene from. Lunaras pulsated at his hip as if to remind him of the burden he carried, of the weight that lay constantly across his shoulders. It was this weight that caused his hands, not without a large degree of reluctance, to gently rest on the young woman's hips. His strong arms carefully detached her from his body and pushed her backwards. Not in a rude way, but in a manner that almost suggested he was obligated to do so. His head was bowed; his eyes had vanished behind a curtain of auburn bangs. His left hand gently reached back to rub Lunaras' shining pommel, which lit up even brighter at his touch. His voice, quiet, repentant, and serious, rose from a mouth set in a grim line. "...My quest for a purpose is one that I accept alone. It is as much internal as it is external. The path constantly winds on, but I can accept no companions on the journey. It is one that I walk solo. That is something that I will not...cannot...change." Shadyn turned on the spot and raised his head to look at the cliff face that rose out of the water like a great wall of fire before him. The glass was ablaze with a fiery magic, that of the Phoenix that chose to roost there every few centuries. It glistered and scintillated in the night as if it contained a thousand tiny fireflies, all alight with crimson glory. The light reflected gorgeous patterns on the frothy waves beneath his feet, challenging even the stars with silent glory. Shadyn's eyes, turned away from Rene, filled with the reflected light from the fires of rebirth. His left hand still compulsively fiddled with Lunaras' hilt while the right dangled loosely at his side. After a long moment of silence, his head swiveled on its axis to glance at Rene out of the corner of its eye. "I say this not because I despise you, or because I don't want to be your friend. I say it because you asked that I protect you...so protect you I shall. I'll protect you by keeping you a safe distance away from me." |
