Death. She had seen so much of it. She could see so much of it in this place. There had been plenty of it before their arrival here. And there would be plenty more in the indefinite amount of times to follow. This journey was quite unlike her. Heroics. Koralle was no hero. But she had seen so much loss in this world, she had cowered for so long. Now she had vowed to herself, no more. However, she needed help. Assistance she had thus far found in two men, an acquaintance and a stranger. It was almost funny, like the tales her father once told her. They were going to save the world. Or at the very least, change it for the better. This was Koralle's greatest hope. Weeks ago, she would not have even imagined she'd get this far, much less with allies. Finally she had the courage to ask them, those who had helped her slay undead, bandits and former friends. It was not in her nature to ask people for help, not out of claims for independence but because she would never be able to hold herself responsible for the safety of others. Her guilt would drive her into depression and despair. She could not ask one for help and get them killed in the process. But she had to, because she knew at least one would follow regardless and she too would need all the help she could get. Something wrong was happening in Avalon, and something bad was coming. A demon who'd saved her from a dragon, had told her that Husin was where it would all start. If only someone passed through that dreaded cave and made it to the other side, and defeated the forces there, maybe Avalon would be saved. And so they went. They'd arrived at Husin weeks later, decked out in travel gear and supplies, weapons sharpened to peak condition. Koralle had left her horse back at the last city, and the hellhound was always lurking at the edges of the terrain they passed through. He was still not quiet certain of her two companions, not like the hound would abandon her anyways. The travelers were in the best of conditions, other than foot sore and weary from the distance it took to get here. Nothing a good rest and a meal wouldn't fix however. And so it was that the group finally halted on a rise over looking the cave. Koralle shifted the pack at her shoulders, before lowering it to the dirt floor. She had since grown more comfortable with her traveling companions. Well, she'd already known Jade for awhile. It would be harder to relax in a place such as this, but, at least she knew who her friends were. "Well. I guess we should rest till morning." |

When the boy traveled, he traveled light. Born a savage he is use to getting what he needs out of the lands around him. So, with him he carried only a few things. His weapons, two waterskins for food he had some sundried jerky. Other than that the youth continued forward with nothing but a cloak to hide his body from the elements. So with the hood up, the boy traveled forward with his companion and the other. He had promised his steel to her, and his honor wouldn’t allow him to do otherwise until his debt was repaired in full. Skaren… felt nothing for the slaying of his former comrades or even the once innocent caravan riders. They threatened his life, so it was only natural, and his training that allowed him to utterly slaughter the zombies without remorse. To him, it felt like a duty to remove them from the world once more, it annoyed him greatly that some Necromancer decided to toy with the once life of men and women. Once someone dies they deserve to rest, not to be rose again for such things. And so, even without the blood debt… Skaren would have followed anyway… to find out who was behind it and ram his steel through their throats. It wasn’t long after their departure did they arrive at the next part of their destination. A massive hole in the middle of no where, if one were to look down into it, it’d be like staring into the blackness of a starless moonless sky. Almost as if the hole itself threatened to devour you. It was an odd feeling, and not something Skaren didn’t want to experience. So the second Koralle offered rest for the day, he took her up on the offer, reaching beneath his cloak and offering the girl one of the two waterskins. (Yay for crap) |

She nodded with a thanks as she took a good drink from the water skin. It had been a long journey considering, well, longer than she had ever gone. Maybe she wouldn't have made it on her own, but it didn't matter. They were here now, that's what did matter. As dark and creepy a place a this may be. It was however just the first step of their journey. Koralle reminded herself that it would be a far more dangerous journey ahead. That is, if they even survived the night at all. Even as they began the process of setting up camp, talking some of the time and focusing on getting the job down most of the time, there was still that bad omen feeling on the air. Koralle tried to shake it off but, it was hard to ignore the howls brought from the cave to them on the winds, the skittering of unseen creatures in the dark. Constantly the hellhound prowled the outskirts of camp, watchful as to the creatures that lurked ready to devour them. At last they had built a decent fire, arranged their gear in a way so that what was needed was within reach and they didn't wind up tripping over anything in the dark. Koralle adjusted her belt, shifting her blade towards her back to make gathering round the campfire easier. With a brief clatter, quickly muffled by a hand, she began cooking a light meal. Sometimes she liked to cook, she'd admit. But it would have to be a quickly prepared meal just so they could avoid garnering the attention of any ... unwanted guests. As she tossed a few chops on the pan she glanced over her shoulder at the other two. "It's not safe here. I guess we need to take turns keeping watch?" She tossed a few greens into the skillet as she awaited an answer from either of them. Koralle wasn't sure if they deemed her suggestion necessary or if one of them wanted to volunteer first watch. While she wouldn't mind taking first watch, the hound would keep her company well enough, she didn't want to do anything her allies may disagree with. |

His companion took a good deep swig from the water skin. With a slight nod in approval, he took it back and placed it yet again back under his cloak. Tonight’s rest would have to come later however, for as the sky began to darken the moon peaking its head out from the clouds that rolled across the starless sky. He almost felt… at home in this place. The darkness reminded him much of the valley, it was a peaceful place, and yet primal all at the same time. The boy had a feeling something may spark his interest this night, and if not this night sometime soon something would happen that would cause him to have to draw steel. And in a way, Skaren was waiting for that moment… his palms itched from not having to fight… it was a caged ones nature to do battle, to feed the beast within. When the notion of watch came up, Skaren immediately took first watch, nodding to the others and speaking in his whisper like monotone voice. “Rest well… First watch will be mine.” Skaren then headed off away from the preparing fire. He had jerky, and he was the type that rarely slept as it was. Grave didn’t allow sleep… any moment in weakness would allow the thing inside him to arise and devour those that were close. This peace was too much for him, and it made the chains weak with silence. No the chains needed to be tugged and pulled and yanked to continue to stay strong. Not silence, not peace, with it Skaren couldn’t tell if Grave was planning something or not. Off he continued to go, setting up what seemed to be a mental barrier, his mind physically mapping everything about his surroundings. With this he would be able to roam this area even if he happened to loose focus. Unlike others of Dian, Skaren had a very complex mind, it wasn’t simple and it didn’t run on instinct. No, it ran on something different. What that something was? The youth couldn’t tell you… but the world around him seemed so… slow, it was as if he could think faster and react faster because of it. Everything moved at such a slow speed compared to him, as if he himself was above the law of time. Odd no? |

Turning the meal in the pan just enough to warm it and brown the chops slightly, she set the cooking utensils aside for the time being. The food cooled and the others prepared to sleep or make camp. A few moments later Koralle had fixed herself a plate and ate quickly. Motioning towards the skillet set off to one side of the fire she allowed the two to eat as much as they liked. When mealtime was over she rinsed the gear clean and hid it away amongst her traveling supplies again. She nodded in reply to Skaren's ... well she'd call it an offer, to take first watch. "Okay. Wake me up in a few hours. I'll take second." The hound gave a muffled growl before laying next to the fire, gaze ever watchful into the night. Mere animal that he was he could sense something awry in this place, he wouldn't be sleeping either. Of course, he wasn't your average dog, he could go just fine without sleep for several days. Koralle was surprised at how fast she was able to fall asleep. Of course, as these stories go, that wasn't to last. Something did lurk at the outskirts of their camp. As the night grew darker the beasts from the cave grew braver. The fire briefly wavered in the breeze, leaving the moon and stars to be the only thing shining bright in the sky. What may have once been man however, but now nothing more than a craven beast, feared not the moon and stars. Like a shadow it crept at the edges of darkness and firelight. It whispered, if one could call such a thing a voice anymore, to its brethren, which were nothing more than shadows of their former selves too. They didn't wait for any other sign, three mere beasts of men skirting past the fire and within the shadows to attack the wandering scout of the human camp. They thought they could easily catch the berserker off guard. But even Koralle was stirred awake by the growl of the hound, catching sight of one of the shadowed creatures by the fire light. She cursed, grabbing her sword as she scrambled to her feet. "So much for a night's sleep!" |

...without remorse...
|
[I'll edit this if this is not good enough or has some stuff that contradicts the plot and such.] Reiku looked around as the blanket of the night sky stained the forest with its shade of black. He had no idea how he had ended up in this area. All he knew that he had been in another one of his random wanderings and had somehow gotten lost. He felt a bit different though. He could feel something different from his surroundings. The thought of getting lost in distant lands entered his mind. He somehow felt that he was still in Avalon yet...something felt different. It was as if the colors that he was seeing were so different from the ones he was used to see. Similar but the feeling they give off was making his heart pace. "It must have been something I ate," He told himself as he continued to drag his feet along the forest floor. He himself felt different. He felt strange as if his hands were itching to hold the cold hilts of his daggers. Like he had the need to keep swinging it around. That train f thought was cut short as he heard some, no, several footsteps to his left. Taking advantage of the moment, he grabbed his daggers and readied himself. Just jolding those two blades gave him an ecstatic feeling, something he had never felt before. He saw a group of people charging at him and he took a stance. They seemed awfully familiar but he couldn't pin it down as to who this people were. An arrow was shot and it flew past his face and bruised his cheek. That instant, the memory of his first ever ever wound - an arrow skewering his heart - flooded his mind. He grinned as he charged them head on. It was impossible but he was thinking that these were the same bandits that had attacked him back then, giving him a lovely trip down the cliff and into the rapids. This would be a good time to pay them back for what they owed. A grin formed on his lips as he had decided to use the time of night as his magnificent killing chamber. |

Skaren continued his walk, silver eyes focusing in on the darkness around them. His mind had mapped his steps perfectly, his surroundings just as well, and even in darkness his movements would not be hindered. So, even as the killing intent of night beasts continued to seep its way past Skaren and into the camp, the boy knew something was going to happen and soon at that. The night was too quiet, there was no sounds of nature, no sounds of animals and insects. Caution caused the boy to keep his hands near the steel crossed on his lower back, and as if perfectly called for the instant the killing intent exploded, Skaren unleashed the dragon forged blades with a sharp hiss, held in a reverse grip and standing his ground. Caught off guard he was not, as one of the 3 man beasts charged head long at him, the other two passing right by him and probably heading for the others. Instinct caused the youth to cross the blades over his chest, blocking an outthrust claw that threatened to disembowel him. “INCOMING!” an overly calm voice called out over the rising nose of the night. The moon and stars shining down upon the warriors, Skaren ready for a little scuffle, Omega, the left handed blade sliding free of the clawed embrace of its opponent, flipping around into a proper grip only to be slammed forward with enough force to slice directly through bone. The beast was… agile, leaping backwards and freeing the first blade Alpha. Sujin had taught the youth much, and he knew not to back off from an attacker like that. With his teachings in mind, Skaren stepped forward and to the left, Alpha still in its reversed grip as he literally stab-slashed with the outstretched blade towards the retreating man-beast. Pressing the attack more, Omega came blasting in from the left as well in a diagonal thrust towards the ribcage of the man beast. The first attack was shallow, only slashing a small gash across the things chest as the second missed completely. However, like water Skaren continued to flow and press his offensive, his frame spinning as Alpha came around again from the left in another slashing stab. No Mercy. |

))Reiku, I don't know where you are or what you're fighting, but its not what the rest of us are defending against. xD(( How sad it was when she almost tripped and fell right into the hot embers left by the fire. If she'd had the time she no doubt would have chided herself on such foolish mistakes. Alas there was barely enough time to even breath let alone do anything else. Except die and be eaten by the beasts, that is. But they shied away from the fire pit, though the blaze had died the scent and heat alone kept them at bay. At bay being only a few scarce feet from the girl who'd only just managed to draw her sword. "Levi, gehen!" Commanding the hound to do as he pleased for the fight, Koralle knew she didn't have to worry about him. She would have given a glance to check on her companions, however an ungodly screech in her ear forewarned her of the man beast attacking to her right. Quickly she turned about, blade brought upwards to slice the creature from chest to chin. It fell, writhing and bleeding before finally breathing no more. Koralle knew this was only the beginning, and so she kept her guard up. A voice ringing out through the dark was recognized as the berserker's. Calling out in response to assure the Dian that the rest of the party was indeed alive, her words were cut short as an onslaught of the beasts took the initiative. "Ja-!" While they were not as greatly outnumbered as they had been during the battle in which they'd met, these beasts were more difficult to slay than even undead. Not to mention the claws, and the speed in which they moved. The zombies had shuffled about, their only real strength being their numbers. But here in the dark, beasts that were once men had developed superior weaponry than the men they wee once had. However, they were still not more than animals. While their cunning was like that of the wolf; their hunger for blood just as potent, they weren't too bright. "Schuss.' Her free hand whipped about, magic from her palm catching one of the beasts at the side of its head. Blood and bones fanned out from the impact, but her prowess with the spell was so minimal that with beasts like these, it didn't even slow them down. While the katana was a light blade, especially due to its minor enchantments, Koralle was not physically strong enough to hold back the next ragged being to bear its claws towards her. She caught its claws against her blade, but it pressed on just as strongly and nearly shoved her off her feet. It was the hound that aided her, pouncing on the former man and tearing its throat away with hellish fangs. "Gut, Levi." |

[No worries, those are just bandits] He must have taken them by surprise as instead of running away like a wandering traveler would, he charged at them and took them head on. Another arrow shot passed through the side of his face. He did not wince. That memory from a long time ago flipped that lever inside him, switching and inverting his perception. He felt as if his body was moving on his own and he was just a spectator through his own eyes. He wasn't commanding his body anymore. This was the submissive side of him that comes out in dire situations. He was thankful for the existence of this Reiku, though, not all the time because his killings were uncontrolled. It takes a whole lot of danger to bring this side of him out and it takes a whole lot of sheer will to set him back down. Those thugs weren't backing away. A closer look at them and he found that these weren't the bandits that had killed him the first time. He just had thought that they were thanks to the arrow that had grazed his cheek. It was a huge mistake on their part as it triggered him easily. They seem to have noticed that he was keen on killing them and started to become wary. A few of them threw out their swords and rushed to him, foolishly brandishing their swords in the air. It made them defenseless and it added to their disadvantage of being slow. It made it easier for him to slit the throat of another while the other had received a loving heart stab from him. As they fell to the ground, the others had already gone far. They had serve a distraction. What a way to die. An arrow flew through the air and hit his left arm. He curse as he turned to the archer that had not ran away. He tilted his head quickly to avoid the arrow. The archer was shivering in fear but it was amazing how he can shoot accurately. He kept away the hiding dagger, Crescent Moon and transferred the blinking dagger, Seven Nights, in his right hand. He rolled to his right and held the hilt like he was holding the end of an arrow. He threw it as soon as he can towards the archer, hitting him on the chest. He rolled forward as the enchantment activated, catching him in mid-roll. He was teleported directly above the man's head with his body inverted. He grabbed his head and twisted in, snapping his neck, killing him more than he should. He managed to land on his feet as the dagger was called out back to his palm. All that's left is to subside this persona. |

And indeed no mercy was given, the slashing stab of the beginning was ironically the end of the creature that attacked him so foolishly. Its head rolled as its body collapsed under its own weight. Silver eyes had no need to confirm a kill his body felt. Thus the young immortal turned, pivoting on his planted right foot and dashed back to camp as fast as his legs would carry him. The girl, was alone for the most part. True he noticed the presence of a hound, sticking close to her and yet watching from afar. A loyal beast that Skaren respected as well as suspected it kept its distance because he himself was around. Did it trust its masters life on his steel? Or did it just not trust the warrior all together? It wasn't long before Skaren returned to camp immediately heading for the girl. And as if on queue and command, the wolf along with the hound attacked the last of the creatures. The youth leaping into the air and plunging both broadswords into the back of the beast as the dog hung from its throat. Alpha and Omega twisted, each in a reverse grip. And with a mighty pull, as if one were pulling at bars to bend them. Skaren ripped his dragon forged steel from its flesh, disemboweling the thing as the hell hound removed its throat all in the same breath. As the creature crumbled, Skaren stood tall behind its corpse and eying the girl looking for any damage. Satisfied the she handled herself well and the hound at her side added to the protection. The youth nodded, shaking the already beading blood off his weapons and re sheathing them with a quick twisting flipping motion. “Hmm... the hounds good... you're a lot better too when you don't panic.” Skaren's calm and breath-full voice escaped his lips. Even in the scuffle and fight, the boy did not lose its cool and nor did he seem even the slightest bit winded or tiered. |

She toppled back a step, as another slunk in from the right. Narrowly avoiding the raking claws seeking to gut her, she brought the light blade to respond in kind. As the final bodies fell, she stepped back distastefully from the warm guts spilling across her boots. Physically shaking off the sick feeling to her stomach, she cleaned her blade against her shirt. "Levi?" A glance up revealed the scene to her, the arrival of the berserker and his partnership with he hound to finish off the final assault. Koralle was not surprised, the hound had only ever been taken down by another beast, and that had been a dragon of all things. Peering through the dark to insure that the man beasts were indeed finally deceased, she found nothing more than a grisly scene in the dark. It seemed that was all which remained of the braver cave creatures. A good thing for the little party, but unsettling still in that there had to be many more of like monsters inside the cave. Still, the things around the camp being dead did not settle her nerves. She flinched back at the voice of the berserker, nodding slightly when she saw it was him. Realizing she had been holding her breath whilst surveying the aftermath, she exhaled slowly and slid the katana to its scabbard. "Ja. Well. They were my friends last time." Undead of not, having to fight and watch her caravaner friends die again had not been something to just brush off for her. But she didn't want to think about that anymore. So she shook her head and gave a nervous sort of laugh before turning to strike up the fire again. Koralle decided to take the other's words as praise. At least she didn't prove herself totally useless. "But, danke. Thanks, I mean." The hound, having been cleaning the blood and filth from his fur, now stepped between them. He didn't even give the Dian another glance as he passed by to lay by the fire again. "Well. He's starting to trust you a bit more. It usually takes longer ... guess a fight together helped." |

Pain. He could feel the pain throbbing in his left arm. Blood was flowing out steadily and the arrow needs to be removed or risk infection. Healing the wound up would not be a problem. Healing infections has a bit of a downside to it. He needs to remove the infected part before he can heal. The part about removing the infected tissues make one hell of a bloody mess and it's one of the things he hates the most. Right now, dislodging the arrow was top priority. He stopped and leaned against a tree as he grabbed the shaft. He hoped that it wasn't tipped with poison. That was one of the things he hated. It weaken him and it pains him since he takes a long time to die and some of the poisons either can be removed with him dying first or wait until it loses its potency, the former being his choice mostly. He gently moved the arrow to see how serious the wound is. He felt a sudden jolt of pain from his left arm to his spine. It was a bit bad. It was lodged in his ulna. He gripped the shaft hard and prepared himself for pain. He cursed loudly as he pulled out the arrow in one strong pull. Some of his flesh was torn as the arrowhead burst out form the skin. Taking his cloak, or long scarf, He started wrapping it all around his arm. He would take a while to heal but it's the pain that would be the issue. The muscles were torn and moving the arm either voluntarily or involuntarily cause extreme pain. Somehow, Reiku was glad that it was Reiku in control. He can tolerate pain much more than him. "Lucky bastard," Reiku muttered and chuckled to himself. Reiku seemed to be holding back a bit. He had not, so far, seen the will of Reiku pulling him back to his dormant state. Usually it would be around this time when he could feel the supposedly original persona pulling him back into the depths of sleep. But then, they had never agreed on anything or disagreed. Reiku started to think that he might enjoy this state for a while. Reiku seemed to keep dormant. Reiku thought he was afraid of a little pain but he knew it was something else. Reiku, on the other hand, felt the need to let him out for a while. He'll just spectate for now, something he had never done before. Maybe this could lead to both of them understanding each other. "Well," Reiku said as he got up. He clutched his bandaged arm as he tolerated the pain as much as possible. He continued to walk, not knowing where he would end up. They felt that something was going to happen that would change their single life forever. [Too Confusing? =x] |

Skaren’s frame silently lumbered around the camp, calm indeed but unable to shake the feeling that something more horrible was about to happen or was coming. True he feared little so long as he had the will to draw his steel and defend himself, his honor, and his companion. But something just didn’t feel right, and it weighed heavily on the youth’s soul. After a moment of pacing and finally knowing for sure that as of right now, there was no threat on his life or the life of the girl, Skaren sat down near the fire, sweeping his hand through his sweaty hair removing the bangs from his eyes. “Mmmm, Dogs better to not trust me at all… I know it can smell the blood on my hands. Just hope it understands I won’t draw my blade on you so long as my honor demands it.” Calm and wisp like, as if he never said them at all, the youth relaxed against the fire and yawned, closing his eyes but not his senses… knowing full well that someone or something else… was approaching. He could feel the bloodlust leaking off whatever it was frame, and even smell the blood mist in the air. Whatever it was, was ether wounded or seeking to wound others. So as he laid calmly, Skaren continued to finger the hilts of his dragon forged swords. “By the way… just what are we doing way out here? I never have traveled so far away from my home, never have I stepped foot into the western lands. It feels… eerie out here. Full of magic.” Skaren knew what magic was, but only understood the most primal forms of it. Elements and Dragon, the magic out here felt darker, sneakier, and somehow more elegant than what he was use to. It was an odd feeling, and it made every hair on his body stand on edge, as if something could appear before them without a moment’s notice. He hated not at least having an idea of what was coming… blind to the world the Caged One was. (( crap)) |

Just breath...
|
An evil aura hell bent on sucking all forms of life dry had wrapped itself around this forest, strangling every pulsating soul until its last breathe included squirting blood and incessant twitching. It was violent imagery indeed, but given the unavoidable presence of evil that stank all around this forest, Fina would find no hesitation in basking in the macabre. A look of intensity was worn and intensified by sudden perspiration as he held a tight jog through some remote clearing, hoping his speedy travel would have him avoiding evil. Yet as much as he had run in an attempt to dissuade the forces of malice that barked at his heels, his head would be turned facing one problem, allowing him to run into another without protest. By the time he noticed, it’d be too late to turn back. What was that!? His imagination would run rampant as the sudden apparition of battle related noises shattered the night’s eerie silence. Fina’s head would jerk in response, swiveling without delay in the direction of the various sounds. Although darkness would continue to render him blind and failed in his attempts, the feelings of an imminent hill approaching as the result of leather bound feet reading the grounds well would soon remove the black veil. Now atop a higher perch, a few squints would reveal the remnants of a fire ahead. The smell of the night was already naturally foul, so tracking by scent would be foolish. However, as his theories dissipated within a tired psyche, his periphery would catch sight of two figures; one move, the other fell motionless. Several other dark masses that resembled bodies were slowly observed. What the hell was going on!? Peace would not be awaiting for him down the road. A heavy sigh was emitted as he prepared himself for the troubles ahead. Once he felt ready and motivated, hesitant steps would carry him over to the source of the noises and sudden violence. However, that pull which he now willingly let take him over was not tracking excellent paying off; it was the evil aura of Husin’s Hole, soon to suck in for good the souls of the four treading these cursed lands. ...without remorse...
|
For now, Reiku would just watch, hoping that Reiku wouldn't endanger their body too much. It was strange. He was actually giving him control. They both realized that something was definitely amiss and it was affecting them. But what was it? How could something even affect the realms of their mind? He stopped in his tracks. Something was sending a chill to his spine and he didn't like it one bit. He is being watched, or at the least, seen. He slowly stepped back. A crisp twig seemed to find it amusing to be right behind him as he had stepped on it. A loud crack echoed through the silent forest. No point hiding now, his presence was already revealed. "Stupid twig," He muttered at he swished his left arm, making his cloak flutter and making a loud swishing noise. It was to make his watcher know that Reiku can sense someone else near him. It was some sort of intimidation as other animals would cry out loud or make themselves seem bigger. He seemed as if he was staring blankly in front of him with the cloth covering his eyes. In reality, his eyes were already scanning the area. The cloth was of a special material and he could see through it without any problem at all. His ears twitched as he listened in on the forest's movements, trying to detect something unnatural. His hands went behind him as he felt the hilts of the two daggers. In an instant, he hurled a dagger to his right where he thinks that spectator would be. He frowned as he heard a soft thump. Apparently, he had hit a tree. He outstretched his free right hand and waited for the dagger to return. He raised an eyebrow as he took out the other dagger and inspected it. Ah, he had been careless. He had thrown the wrong dagger and it might had cost him. His right hand went up and behind him as he felt the hilt of the long sword. Stepping forward, he threw the remaining dagger to the direction of the first. Having heard a similar thud, he activated the enchantment, teleporting himself a few feet above the dagger. He drew out the katana as he saw a silhouette of a figure in front of him, his left hand going behind him and grabbing the hilt of the teleporting dagger in case he needed to make an escape. [bah, forgive the crappy post >.<] |
