So, 145 -155 words? No more, no less. Using Avalon's built-in word counter, yeah?

Blackmoor stretched out ahead of her. It was beautiful and it was perfect. Cal had just climbed up a hill and could see a small cluster of houses just ahead of her. It was early afternoon: the perfect time for starting an adventure, as it was neither too earlier nor too late. Though the time was good, the weather was not the desired weather for adventure. The sky was ash grey and dull, with ominous looking clouds drifting lazily across it. ‘Go away!’ Cal thought at them, but they merely shrugged their feathery cinder-shoulders.

Cal didn’t live too far from here. Only about a half an hour’s wander away, in a small village that nobody knew the name of. Everyone just called it Home or Village. That was the reason why Cal was climbing hills – she wanted to go somewhere else, somewhere that actually had a name.

“Helloooo?" she called.
She's a little monster.

"Archibald!" Daeryn's voice was carried far and wide by the wind as he chased his dog through the wilderness, cursing his faithful friend as he ran. As if in response, the hound began to bark and Daeryn knew that he may as well have taken that as a 'no' - the dog had caught the scent or sound of something and wouldn't stop until he had found out what it was. Clinking in its scabbard at his side, the sword that he had 'borrowed' from his brother Tomás earlier that day, which was much too big for his small figure, kept catching his ankles and more than once he had to stop himself from tumbling to the ground. The path which Archibald led him on grew steeper and steeper and it wasn't until they reached the top of this hill that Daeryn realised why Archibald had gone mad. There was a person there. "Oh, hello."

Dog! She could hear it barking and howling and carrying on. no, no no. Why did it have to be a dog? And not a tree in sight! What to do what to do oh look butterfly no wait. The dog! She sprinted across the hill top because she needed ... she needed ... a tree! A voice echoed across the hill, a greeting, and before long she not only just saw the girl atop the hill. No, she nearly collided with her!

"Hi, bye, gotta go. Sorry. There's a dog!" With the grace of a cat, Haisuri skipped past the girl on the hill. She sprinted as fast as she could. And tripped. OVER A DOG! That's it. It was all over. The dog was going to eat there she just knew it. Laying in the grass with a big scary dog standing over her. "I don't want to diiiiie."

To her surprise, exactly 12 breaths after she had called out 'hello' somebody had appeared. Or well, rather, something. A barking dog ran at her and she let out a shriek of surprise. Perhaps another 12 breaths later a young man - nay, a boy - climbed up the hill as well. A large scabbard hung from his waist, but otherwise he seemed rather harmless.
"He-" Cal opened her mouth and before she could say the rest of her 'hello' someone ran into her and the word was shoved out of her mouth so it sounded like a high-pitched yowl. "-eelloooouuu!" The impact had caused Cal to fall on her back, but she picked herself up quickly to see a cat-eared girl lying on the ground with the boy's dog barking next to her.

"Your dog!" she cried, waving a finger at the boy. "You bum! Your dog is drooling all over that girl!"
She's a little monster.

Surprised by the speed at which things happened, it took a moment for Daeryn to realise what was going on. "Ohh, Archibald! Stop that!" cried the youngster, kneeling down and wrestling the dog away from the young cat-like girl. A moment later, he realised that the girl who had been here first had insulted him. "Hey! Don't call me a bum you...you..." he couldn't think of anything other than 'bum' to respond with. Archibald continued to bark and attempted to pull away from his grip, but he held the dog tightly. "Calm down, you," he said in a disappointed tone. Turning his attention to the cat-like girl on the floor, Daeryn could see she was terrified by Archibald. "He won't hurt you, miss. He's good, really. Just very excited by everything, that's all!" Looking around at the place called 'Blackmoor', Daeryn wondered a little. "What are you doing out here, anyway?"

She did the only thing she could do. Wrapped her hands over her head, ears flat against her skull and waited for impending doom! She'd never heard of a dog eating a cat but still! There was always. A. Chance. Now it seemed that this was her chance and she was going to be eaten alliiiiveee. Death ... wasn't as painful as she expected it to be though. Hm. Someone else was talking but it wasn't until the slobbering canine was puled back and contained that she actually opened her eyes. Just as it seemed she might give a hiss and a swipe at the dog instead she jumped up. Then promptly ran about and hid behind the other girl. "Its still a dog..." She muttered, cautiously eying the barking, drooling critter. Still hiding behind the other girl, she only shrugged. "Ran away from home now I'm running from dogs..."

Cal smirked at the boy's inability to come up with a good insult. She was proud of the extent of her own insulting vocabulary and wasn't about to share it with him. The dog was pulled away and finally, when the cat-girl dared open her eyes she leapt up in the blink of an eye and ran behind Cal, her blue ribbon flying behind her. She was glad that the boy had asked what they were doing here at Blackmoor; it seemed the girl wasn't doing anything too busy and probably neither was the boy. She had found her companions!

"I'm Cal," she said. "I'm fourteen. I'm here 'cause I wanna be here. But..." She glanced around them, saw no extra people. "I'll tell you a secret: I'm here for an adventure!" Her hazel eyes gleamed behind the curtain of brown hair and she grinned. "I like yer tail," she said.
She's a little monster.

In all honesty, Daeryn had not expected the cat-girl to be that scared of Archibald. After all, the dog was tiny. "Why run from dogs? They're brilliant!" he exclaimed, forgetting the very basic knowledge that cats and dogs rarely got on, for whatever reason. The mention of an adventure caused Daeryn to snap to attention in exactly the same way as Archibald would if there was mention of a good sausage or bone for him. This could be his big chance, an opportunity to prove that he was the greatest warrior of all time. No longer would people laugh at him when he made the bold claims, instead they would ask all about his adventures and sit in awe as he recounted them. "Well, if you're going on an adventure, then you will need a great warrior to accompany and protect you, Miss Cal!" Daeryn grinned uncontrollably.

"Yeah brilliant at ... at ... eating cats! I'mma cat! I dun want to be ate!" It was logic, so there. Okay so technically she wasn't completely a cat anymore and technically she had been a cat statue. But still. Cat dog, dog cat. No. Bad. She didn't like it. Haisuri had nothing going for her, she had run away from home after all. Because that stupid mage guy didn't know what he was doing when he made her not a statue and then the old people didn't even want her! Ok ... so ... she'd broken a few things. But she just wanted to have fun she was just playing games it wasn't her fault! Her fear of the dog faded at the other girl's words. She liked her tail! "People kept telling me it wasn't but it is my tail!" Haisuri grinned. "Okay I'll go with you!"

Cal wasn't too fussed about whether dogs were brilliant or not, so she kept her mouth out of the discussion.

"Hey, that's decided then! We're on an adventure. If you don't tell me yer names I'll call you Bum, and I'll call you Cat, alright?" she said, pointing first at the boy and then over her shoulder at the cat-girl.

"Great. Bum's got a sword and Cat's got ears and a tail, and I..." she paused, looking mollified for a moment. "I've got boots!" Cal said, pointing at her large, brown boots. She grinned, but felt slightly nervous. They didn't have to know about her abnormalities, did they? 'They might not want to be your friends if they find out!' she thought in horror. Yep, better to refrain from mentioning it. She scratched absent-mindedly at the leather wrapping, which covered her whole right hand and came up almost to her elbow.
She's a little monster.

The cat-girl seemd quite excitable, going from being afraid of Archibald to seemingly happy and jumpy in mere seconds. The compliment on her tail given by Cal seemed to have provoked that reaction. Cal herself seemed to have agreed to let them join her on her adventure and that made Daeryn happy indeed, though that feeling was soon pushed aside. His name?! He refused to go by her name 'Bum'. "Why, I am Daeryn Ros, of course! I am the greatest warrior in this land!" He would show them, both of them, whatever it took.

When Cal mentioned the sword, Daeryn's hand, out of his control, slipped down to feel at the hilt. He knew he shouldn't have taken it, but... Avoiding thinking about how much trouble he could get in, he looked back to Cal. "Just one question. Can Archibald come? I mean, if it's alright with you," he said, looking at the cat-girl.

She was excited because they were going on an adventure. An adventure! One ear twitched as she gave the dog one last cautious glance. Her attentions swiftly drifted back to the other girl against however. A name! She'd almost forgotten ... "I'm Haisuri! But you can call me Suri if you waaaant."

Haisuri wiggled excitedly, she was going to go on an adveeeentuuuure. She stopped moving though. The dog! She'd almost forgotten the dog. Hmmmm. "Well ... Just don't let him eat me!" As long as he could promise that everything would be fine. Right?

Giggling lightly she nodded too. Yes, that was it, it was settled then. "I know I know! Let's go kill monsters! We could be heroes! It'll be fun, right right?" Yay, she was excited. This would be sooo much better than just sitting on the door step of an old shoppe all day long. "Comm'on Let's go!"

Cal had felt a little foolish after being the only one to introduce herself, had she been too trusting? Ah, well, it didn't matter now that they were all acquainted with each other. With the dog problem sorted they could start on their adventure.

"Daeryn Ros, why ain't that a fancy name...I guess Bum isn't a good nickname for the greatest warrior in the land." Cal mused. 'We're going to be heroes, me, Suri and Daeryn!'

Now, all they needed to find was an adventure. She glanced down at the little cluster of huts in the valley beneath them. Not impressive; however, it was possible that they could find food there, which was necessary to have an adventure.

"Yes! Let's go! Race you down! I'm gonna wiiiiin!" she screeched and started running. Her run turned into a roll, and she found herself tumbling down the hill, her mouth filled with grass and laughter.
She's a little monster.

Heroes, yes! Haisuri's idea was great and, of course, perfect for someone of his status. "I agree!" As soon as the words left his mouth, he chuckled as Cal seemed to decide not to call him 'Bum' again. That would be nice: he didn't like it, though a nickname might have been nice. It certainly wasn't the worst thing she could have picked out for him. He turned back to Suri. "I promise he will not eat you. He likes you," he said with a smile, before watching Cal start running down the hill at a pace he thought impressive, though soon she was no longer running but, rather, falling down the hill. And though he had reached sixteen years of age, it still looked...fun!

Deciding that it wouldn't do much good standing here, he tapped Suri on the shoulder. "Meet you at the bottom! C'mon, Archibald!" With that, he ran after Cal enthusiastically.

They were going! Awesome, sweet, cool, amazing. It was going to be an epic adventure for sure! Suri didn't know what any of those words meant but ... it was neat! Yes! She glanced at the dog warily. "Well. I guess ... If you say so."

Her stomach growled as she realized, that she, was hungry. In fact ... Suri couldn't remember the last time she'd had supper. Not since sh left the old couple's house. And that was a very long time ago! A whole day, even.

Haisuri was left pondering her food obtainment situation, her attentions drifting for a moment. Then abruptly a touch on her shoulder caused her to notice that the other two had left! The girl and the boy with he dog went running off down the hill. "Oh hey wait for me!" She cried, scampering off down the hill to chase after her new found companions.
