Young Kaden, having been born into slavery and just escaped, wondered around the woods that he figured would be his doom. Bleeding from multiple wounds, alone, scared and, most of all, lost were the things running through his head at that very moment. Was this how it would all end? 'Better free than in the captivity of a madman right?' He thought, 'Why should I serve anyone?' He continued to move; not going very fast, but going somewhere indeed. His arm was soaked in blood from the arrow that was still buried in his shoulder. 'Will I ever find my parents?' He thought as he continued to drag himself along the dense woods. Kaden soon found the world fading into an impenetrable black as his body went numb and cold. His mind began racing as everything he once knew passed before him as a blur of memories. Thirty-five years he spent living, and thirty-five years bound to a slave master and used as a thing of status. Thirty-five years he spent wondering what the real world was like just to get a few moments of freedom and experience the darkness he'd been so familiar to. |

The day began fading away, but Zasshu paid no mind ti the orange setting sun. Her new treasure would would open up a world of riches. Zeus' sacred sundial was to be returned to the ancient temples. In Greek mythology, Hera turned Lamia into a serpent to keep her away from Zeus. Since, her descendants have mesmerized their men. The spell can only be broken by the great god's sundial. Zasshu grinned at the thought of the bounty that was placed on such a small, simple relic. Shee tunred it over and over in the palm of her hand. The golden sundial shone in the last remaining light of day. Her wanderings through the thick wood was not in vein. As long as she kept her treasure to herself and out of the site of other hunters, she would be rewarded in the end. Zasshu felt as giddy as a school-girl. She could not wait for the treasures that lye ahead. |

Kaden regained conciousness late that afternoon. His wounds had stopped bleeding yet the pain remained. He could neither see nor hear pursuit and thanked whatever was looking after him for that. 'Am I finally free?' Kaden thought to himself. After lying on the ground for some time, Kaden found he was able to stand and, thankfully, walk. It wouldn't be a good day if an infection set in, like in so many of the slaves he'd seen beaten within an inch of their lives. Kaden, without anything to hold him back any longer, got moving as fast as his broken body could go. It was twilight and nasty things would always come out after dark. Things that Kaden wouldn't be able to hide from with so many open wounds. What felt like an eternity later, Kaden happend apon a lady admiring a small item held in her hand and moved toward her before he passed out again; for he could feel the darkness gathering around his conciousness once again. |

The stars had began to set themselves in the night sky. The nocturnal sounds began to echo through the wood. Zasshu ignored every little creature that scurried past her feet. She had nothing to fear except any other hunters that may be in the area, but the sounds of any approaching threat would stick out to her. Zasshu stuffed her newest treasure in her blouse, knowing that any man or creature would lose a hand if they tried to find it. She stretched her arms high in the sky and decide she would rest for the time being. Wandering around the forest at night was not always a smart idea. She had found herself roaming around in circles before when she ventured deeper into the wood with no clue as to where she was or where she was going. Removing her pack from her shoulders and placing it at her feet, she leaned against the trunk of a mighty oak. She closed her eyes and took in the sounds around her. Kaden began to draw closer. Hopefully the lady would see him before he passed out again. Not wanting to take any chances, Kaden began to make all the noise he could on the way over to her. 'Please see me or at least hear me'Kaden mentally pleaded her since he hadn't the strength to do it with words. Kaden stumbled making a whole mess of noise. He was still a distance off and behind her, but he was certain she might be able to hear that. As he regained his composure, Kaden's body began to tremble. He might be too weak to carry on. If those damn slavers hadn't been so hot on his heels he wouldn't be in this condition. Stumbling again, Kaden bumped his pierced shoulder on a tree and shouted in pain before hitting the ground in a groaning mess. If he lived through this ordeal, tomorrow and many other days to come would be very bad indeed. 'I pray she heard me' was Kaden's last thought as he passed into the impenetrable void once more. |

The chill of the night's wind swept over Zasshu's skin and sent a shiver down her spine. She thought about creating a small fire to light the night, but she was too lasy and had no real reason to do so. Zasshu peered up at the stars and traced them with a dainty finger. The wood was at peace in most places. Every now and again, Zasshu would hear the cry of a small animal and the growel of its captor. She soon heard a cry that was out of the normal. It almost sounded human. Zasshu darted up from the ground and squinted through the darkness at her surroundings. A figure came into view. All she saw was the gleam of grey eyes before the shadow fell to the ground. Zasshu was hesitant as to approach the figure. Maybe it was dead? Maybe it was a trap? She could never be sure of these things. A person could play dead, but strike her down if she drew any closer. Her adventurous side kicked into high gear, and before she could finish her thoughts, she found herself standing over the body of what appeared to be an elf. Zasshu squatted down to get a better look at the elf's condition. His clothes were torn and his skin bore open wounds. Zasshu brought her ear close to the elf's face. He was breathing, but barely. She quickly decided to help the poor creature. She could see he was in no condition to be any threat to her. Wrapping one of his arms around her shoulder, Zasshu hoisted the elf off the ground. She managed to carry the man only a few short feet, but that was all she needed. Resting the elf against the mighty oak, she retrieved her pack and began to rummage through it. She removed several items from this bag; a needle and thread, gause, and a small bottle of liquor. Zasshu peered at the elf and wondered if she should even touch him. She needed to sew up his wounds, but what if he struck her while she tried to save his life? |

Kaden didn't see the terrible memories of his life like he did last time. Instead he was standing, with his body repaired, in an open plain of white. Everything was warm and it was as if time stood still. 'Is this what death is like?' Kaden ask mentally. The only disturbing thing about the experience was he heard his thoughts echo and began to figure this was dream. Which told him his body was alive no matter how broken it was. He breathed a sigh of relief and began to look around once more. Still white just like the last time he looked around. Kaden lapsed into conciousness to see the lady he was trying so hard to get to standing over him. He breathed another sigh of relief and took a long moment to take in his surroundings. The same place as before just in a slightly different spot. "Would thee prithee save mine life?" Kaden barely whispered, "I shalt find a way to repay thee..." The unrelenting agony stormed through his body once more; cutting off the rest of his request. Conciousness held tight to him as well. This was good Kaden would endure any amount of pain so long as he could experience the world of freedom, something he had sought for for so many years. "Prithee mine lady..." Kaden whispered before another fit of pain rolled over his body once more, "I harbor no will nor means to harm thee." With that Kaden simply waited for her to do something. |

Zasshu peered over her things, unaware of the waking elf. She chewed on her bottom lip deep in thought. She almost jumpped as she heard a sigh come from beside her. The man was alive, barely, but still alive. Please, Her voice was soft and gentle, Do not force yourself to speak. I will help you the best I can. She held herself back from pressing her fingers to his lips to shush him. She felt that she may cross a line with something like that. First, I will need to remove the arrows from your arm. I warn you now, this will hurt. Zasshu turned herself to face the elf's left arm. She took the bottle of liquor in one hand and removed her father's pocket knife from her boot with the other. Taking the poket knife, Zasshu carefully cut the sleeve of the man's shirt. She examined the first arrow that protruded from his upper arm. She could tell that pulling it alone would do no good. Zasshu quickly ripped her laces from her boot and knotted them around the elfs arm, just above the wound. She hopped this would help slow the blood flow until she could mend it. Using her teeth to uncork the small bottle, she spat the cap onto the ground and took a swig before pouring the liquid onto the blade to steralize it. Grit yer teeth. With one swift movement, Zasshu jabbed the man's wound with her knife. She then proceeded to push on the tip of the embedded arrow with her knife as she pulled on the other end. The arrow came free. Zasshu quickly steralized her needle and poured alittle liquor on the wound to kill the infection. She moved swiftly with her needle, sewing the hole shut. She bit into the thread to break its hold from the implament. Zasshu then grabbed the gauze, wrapping it tightly around the man's arm. Alright, Her voice cracked, Now for the two in your back. I'm going to need ya to sit foreward if possible. She removed her boot laces from his arm before strattling behind him. Using the same method as before, she removed the elf's shirt with her knife and removed the arrows. Once she got to wrapping him in gauze, she felt quite awkward preesing her body against his back. It was all she could do to get the gauze wrapped around his chest and back. Her deed was done. She removed herself from behind the man and stood in front of him. I'm afraid there isn't much else I can do, Her voice was caring, And seeing as you are topless now, I shall build a fire to help warm yerself. With that, she departed into the darkness and returned a few moments later with a bundle of twigs and branches in hand. |

Pain; utter and unrelenting pain. something Kaden was used to but not in this manner. He'd been beaten many times in his life fore doing things slightly wrong like spilling a drop of tea on the platter, but never had he felt pain like this. He took the lady's advice and gritted his teeth to prevent screaming but a low painful growl still escaped his mouth. Do people experience this everyday? If so, do they all live through it? Even with the pain rushing through his body he still clung to conciousness like a frightened child does his mother. He knew it was necessary for him to continue living. A new sensation rushed over his body between the pain as the remainder of the lady's words crossed his ears. Kaden was very cold. This wasn't anything new to him, but he was quite relieved to be feeling something else for once. Besides the cold might help his mind escape the pain while he stayed awake. Aside from the things he felt physically, Kaden felt an immense amount of gratitude to this lady. 'I'll have to learn her name so i shan't offend her in any way' Kaden noted. He definately wasn't into the whole formal addressing anymore. The pain began to ebb as his thoughts ran in different directions. Kaden fell asleep shortly after. |

Zasshu returned a few moments later with a bundle of firewood. She looked at the elf as she placed the bundle on the ground. Out again I see, She thought. Zasshu shrugged as she knelt down to light a fire. Her fingers slipped across the flint she held in her hand. She cursed under her breath. She never did well as a girl scout. She could manage to survive in the wild for days, but her fire skills were weak. After many failed attemps, Zasshu finally had a spark that caught. She blew lightly on the dim flame until she had a decent sized fire. Standing, she looked at the man again. Zasshu felt that the fire might not be enough to keep him warm. So, removing her jacket, Zasshu placed it over the elf's chest. Giving a soft sigh, she returned to her pack, replacing all the items except the gauze. It was time to change her own bandage. She peered at the wrap around her lower arm and shook her head. |

Kaden awoke at the first light of dawn to find a jacket over his chest. He was very glad to see that he wasn't actually dreaming. Attempting to sit up, he felt a spasm of pain shoot through his body. Nothing he wasn't used to anyway. 'I really am free,' he thought without hesitation. Fear no longer gripped him; thanks to the lady anyway. Thinking of her really made him start to worry about her. He began to look around but his limited range of view harbored nothing. He didn't want to attempt to sit up again for the thought of reopening his wounds was fresh in his mind and he didn't want to call out for fear of waking her. 'I shall wait here until she comes to view' Kaden thought. He then began to think more; he thought about the future. This was something he hadn't ever thought of before. Maybe the outside would harbor many new thoughts and emotions he'd never felt before. Those thoughts contented Kaden greatly. Edited by Kaden, Jan 21 2009, 12:37 PM.

After changing her bandages, Zasshu sat across the fire from the elf. She had restitched her wound and wondered if she should have lifted the man. The strain of lifting his limp, heavy body broke her stitches. She snickered at her own stupidity. Shruging off her remaining thoughts, Zasshu laid on the soft forest floor. Placing her pack behind her head, she began to stare into the night sky. Sleep came and consumed her. As moring came, the sun's beams broke though the canopy. Zasshu tried to close her eyes tighter as it shone in her face. She found it useless. She finally sat up and stretched her arms high in the air. Cracking her neck, she got to her feet. She stretched once more. Zasshu peered at the elf for a brief second. Not enough to tell if he was awake or not. She gave out a deep yawn as she stomped out the last remaining embers with her boot. |

Kaden heard the lady stomp out the embers and glanced over at her. The fact that she was human and not trying to return him to his slaver was a bit of a mystery to Kaden. 'Maybe she doesn't know what I am' Kaden wondered. It seemed as if it could be true. There are many people in the world that might not know what a slave really is. Kaden didn't want to offend her so he took a long moment to choose his words. Would she tell him her name or would she simply kick him and tell him it was none of his business? Either way he had to ask her something, or at least warn her of the danger he was puting her in. 'I shall simply have to go with mine instinct,' Kaden thought. "Mine lady," Kaden uttered with a small bit of confidence, "I must warn the of the danger I hath put thee in. I am an escaped slave that mine master shan't part with easily. I do not wish to let thee go ignorant of any danger. Mine name is Kaden and I have hope thee shan't take offense to mine recklessness." Apprehension grew over Kaden as he awaited her reply. |
