Halli stepped to the clearing. He was there to prove himself and he planned on doing that exactly. Although he still had his doubts. He was strong but someone was always stronger, Fast but with someone faster, Smart but there was someone smarter. He was a little twitchy, having not let his hand off of the strap keeping his crossbow on his body. He was ready to swing it around and fire at whomever was stupid enough to try and hurt him. He looked around, finding it familiar and putting it in place almost instantly. The Existence War. He had helped out lots during the campaign that had started here. Of course, it had turned out well for him, he was here and not dead. Others were not so lucky. They were dead. He waited, standing, the chill in the air getting to him. He had polished his armor as best as he could, having it glowing in the sunlight that was landing on the hill. Underneath the plate he had newly oiled chain mail and under that a thick black cloth to keep it all off of his skin. He was nervous about this. He wanted to look nice meeting someone of importance, but he also wanted to look scary, frightening, imposing, big. He laughed at himself. He waited patiently, wondering if he should have been saying anything to summon them or any of that good jazz. Instead he went to busing himself, looking over his crossbow, making sure the blot, lock, and cord were all in working order. He sighed and looked around. He put the crossbow back into the strap and decided it was time for a smoke. He took out a pack of cigarettes, his last and took one of the black rods out along with a match. He struck it along the rough leather of his sword scabbard, lit and breathed in the smoke. He took a drag, letting the smoke slowly out of his lungs. He hadn't smoked in a long time, due to lack of finding the good kind around here. His people used filtered tobacco, as not to kill you as fast. People over here used either unfiltered tobacco or marijuana, a lethal drug that killed your brain and your muscle. He stood silently, burning his cigarette. Edited by Halli, Nov 16 2008, 08:50 AM.

Without a name, the serpentine beast wove in and out of the clouds hovering high in the air. Blackened pelt glistening in the sky, he'd be quite a sight if only one would take notice of him. However all attentions seemed earthward, as another young hopeful strode into the grounds always deemed sacred. Reclining upon the dragon's back was one of Avalon's protectors, she had fought a potential god just days previous, and now it seemed she was the only one with time enough on her hands to pick up another battle. Thank the gods it was not raining today. Her last battle had been not quite so epic as she'd hoped on account of the rain. She was pyrokinetic through and through, it didn't take but a drizzle to weaken her magical defenses considerably. And she'd caught a cold too. Imagine that, an elder with a old. It was ... embarrassing! That's, what it was. She still sneezed now, having not quite gotten over it yet. Directing the dragon downwards, a great rush of air would pass by the vampire hunter if he was paying any attention at all. Following it would be a thud of boots against stone and the soft sliding of steel against cloth. "Oooh. I remember you. Survived that war thing did you?" |

"Suppose I did." He stated, shrugging his shoulders. He had fled the mountain. He had bigger fish to fry, this being one of them. He had been looking forward to ascension for a very long time. And now that it was finally here, he didn't know what to think. The woman in front of him was small, yet her weapon was not a reflection of her size. His rational side told him that she wouldn't even be able to heft it up, but another part of him told him otherwise. He didn't know what to expect. He had his crossbow already in his hand, a lightning bolt loaded up, ready to fly. He just didn't know what to expect. Bless or Ring of Light would be pretty much useless in this fight. She was not of evil decent. She wasn't here to really murder him. This was more of a trial fight. He was not here to be slain, only to prove his worth. He only wondered how this would go down. "So, start?" He shouldered his crossbow and pointed it at her. He had no intention of killing her and had the weapon trained on her right shoulder. He narrowed his eyes, set his teeth and waited, ready to shoot. [[[OOC: As soon as you make any kind of movement towards him or in a violent motion, I give you permission to say that I fired. When the bolt is only so far away, it will be detonated with a spray of lightning. I'm doing this to try and make it a little more realistic. It is up to you, however, whether he shoots or not.]]] |

She remembered now, how he'd seemed to just vanished from the fray. With a good natured laugh, she whipped her sword about to front. "Well. Don't worry. you didn't miss much. It all went by without much trouble. Bad guys weren't as bad as they thought they were." In fact, after the first battle, the whole things just sort of ... dissipated. Ah well, she'd trade a chance at adventuring for the sacred grounds and Avalon as a whole to be safe, any day. "Ahhh, you are ready. Don't get that much." Arcaine grinned, it was true. Most of the people who came here were rather clueless. Oh, but enough talking for now. "Heh. Let's." One would think that a wielder of the sword would be more cautious when an archer had his barbs pointed at her. Of course, she wasn't just some swordsperson. And so she charged, bringing her weapon about in a diagonal strike towards the chest. He fired his arrow, and she noticed it well enough. But such things were very minor. It wasn't until a second later that she noticed the charge of electricity in the air. With a laugh beneath her breath her opposite hand sent a lick of flame colliding with the arrow. "Here's your only warning. Things'll get harder than this!" |

"Good. Then you aren't as stupid as a vampire. But do you move faster than one?" He had been training, all of his life, with a crossbow. He could load and shoot again before the most disciplined of warriors could draw their blades. It was something that became mechanic, like breathing. It just happened. And in the short time he was talking he reloaded once again, and when I closed the quotes, he had drawn the crossbow up to shoulder and took aim once more. On a more serious note, he never doubted she would be smarted than a vampire. But he wondered how she would act with a very fast object flying at her, another fast moving object. She had handled the bolt very well, incinerating it. His next bolt in line was a fire, as would be the next six or so, before he switched off again. He had a plan to this fight, but he wouldn't be revealing it just yet. He took off in a run to the side, firing one bolt, that missed, a half a foot from her shoulder. It slammed into the ground and stayed where it was. He fired the next six, never coming close with any of the shots, running in a circular motion. If he could, he noted their location so he could retrieve them later. He harnessed his crossbow, despite what his brain told him and drew his blade, ready to defend himself if need be. He had his blade in front of him, making it easy to block attacks from diagnol slants and the side, but leaving a vertical cleave as a good option to do some massive damage. His feet were spread, more than shoulder length, to get as close to the ground as possible, which would also make for a smaller target, but hard to defend leg areas. |

"Vampire?" If she hadn't been the the midst of, oh yeah, battle, she might have shrugged. She didn't see what vampires and intelligence had to do with anything. Not that she knew any vampires, but ... well whatever. A fight! This would be fun, she was sure. Even if she was an Elder, test bringer of the gods, protector of the realm, she was still only human. In fact, out of the many capabilities she had, super speed wasn't one of them. Well, teleportation okay, but, nah, there was no fun in that right now. She did have a bit of natural agility though, but she was still just human, at least more so than the other Elders. The guy sure fired a lot of arrows with that crossbow of his, but she wasn't worried. Her blade lowered to be held in one hand as she ducked beneath the first of the volley. It was only a matter of rapid dodging, weaving, even a tuck and roll or two before she got in close. Unscathed but for a few scrapes from hitting the dirt, she leapt up with her blade drawn again to cut the crossbow in to. Or at least knock it out of his hands. She would have said something about how much fun they were having now, but evasion took too much concentration. A thud met her blade, rather than the usual resounding ring of steel on steel. Not only did it alert her to the fact that his crossbow was no longer an issue but that his sword was made of some different material altogether. Regardless she still pressed onward with the assault, trying to knock him off balance before attempting any further action. He talked big, but could he stand up to it? |

He cursed. When their blades met, his teeth clinched and bit the end of his cigarette off. He spit it out on to the ground quickly, trying not to distract himself. He pushed as she did, trying to push her away or down, either of which he would be content with. She was strong for someone her size, yet he didn't believe she would be a strong as he would, or at least he hoped. Instead of pushing, he slid his blade up hers and began forcing it to the side. Something gave way, whether he had slid off her hand guard or the tip of her sword slammed in to the ground was unknown to him. He danced backwards, keeping his blade at a horizontal angle in front of him, so he could try to defect any counters. He wondered how he would proceed with this. Not only was he most likely out done in magic, but she was stronger than he could have guessed. When he had first saw her, he had half guessed she would be more of a magician than a melee fighter. Rather than wait for her to gather her wits, he decided to press in. He came in with quick, broad taken steps, leaving him at a disadvantage. If she swung wild on a horizontal and he managed to deflect, he would be either cast down or knocked off balance. Something he couldn't afford. But he didn't think he had much to worry about, seeing as the distance between the two was only ten feet. As he neared, about his seventh step, he crouched down and, on the balls of his feet, rising from the crouch, he swung his blade in a horizontal direction. From her view point, it would be cutting up, from right to left. [[[If you don't understand, please tell me. I'm not a very good fight poster. And tell me if I misinterpreted what you said.]]] Edited by Halli, Jan 27 2009, 08:00 AM.

))You're doing fine.(( It was all well and good to her. She could fight blade to blade or spell against spell or combine the two forces. Ad she had tested the gods to be in many such ways too. The task as an Elder required much adaptation. She only smiled in return to the counter strike granted by the other's sword. Her heels dug into the earth as she pressed the two blades close. "Having fun yet?" As the blade slid from each other she pushed back, her question still ringing on the air as she parted blades. Now a few paces away from the other she brought the blade to swipe in a low arc. Their blades clashed again, a heavy strike to send them both stumbling back with the recoil. Hey ... she liked this one already. Turning quickly to catch the next strike she simply parried the blade enough to place some room between them. "Pretty good with a blade yeah. But can you take this?" Bringing her blade to strike earth ward, a line of pure fire would shoot along the ground towards her 'foe'. |

"Pretty good with a blade yeah. But can you take this?" The taunting words echoed in his head as the events moved in slow motion. There was his acceleration to get out of the way, her sword swinging along the ground and then a spout of fire launching towards him. Intense heat washed over him and even part of his calf was caught in the blaze, super heating the metal leggings. His thigh guards were also hot, but only warm compared to the heat that had burst from his leg. It was agony, just like when he had been lit aflame for the first time. But he would not let it stop him. He got to his feet, his armor almost like a bed of burning coals and readied himself once more. He conquered the pain then, he would not let it best him now. He took a step forward and did a spinning backhand slash, something that would have cut across the chest area. He recovered from the swing and went in, slashing down horizontally and bringing it back up the opposite way, bringing it over his head and down for a horizontal slash. He backed away and stood his ground, sword as he had held it before when he was on the defense. [[[Tell me how I'm doing, if you wouldn't mind, each time you post. I'm kind of, nit picky about this kind of thing.]]] Edited by Halli, Jan 28 2009, 12:08 PM.

))Don't worry. I pretty much BS fight topics and still get by. xD(( She always did this, and might have come to realize it if she hadn't always gotten so involved in the fight. But she couldn't help herself, perhaps it was just a naturally brash nature or the fiery personality her element seemed to give. Either way she had too much fun in battle, it was all fun and games to her. Maybe she just didn't take these things seriously enough. It wasn't like she was fighting for her life after all, it was all just a test for the gods. Should she had been more serious? As a Protector that is. Maybe she should stop always with the playful taunts and treatment of others as if they were not but old friends. Or did it really even matter? The fire would dissipate as it washed over the soon to be god, preventing him from burning alive. At least, from killing him anyways. She stepped back a pace, her sword still held upwards in a defensive position, just in case. Her handiwork seemed to have quite an effect, but not enough to stop him. This was good, she thought, but for once decided to keep her damned mouth shut. Instead she simply grinned, still obviously pleased that the man she had been sent to test was ... surviving. She pivoted slightly on one heel, stepping just out of range of the backhanded swipe at her torso. Considering she wore no armor, nothing more than an ordinary cloth shirt and jacket could stave off the blade, she had to evade. Such a fight however ... it needed .... more. Anyone could fight and fight but, testing the gods, heh, it was supposed to be an epic battle. Something to be remembered forever! And she aimed to make it so. Her jaw set as she decided that, perhaps, for once, she could be serious. "This is it. I hope you're ready." Leaving her blade in one hand, the other had summoned a handful of fire to roll all the way to the shoulder before she rushed in. Rather than the sword sh aimed to duck between his defensive and send him to a fire coated tackle. This'll be some fun now. |

She came in, shoulder flaming and he was too late to get away from the tackle. He shouldn't have been so careless, but he was able to take it. He had quickly jammed his blade in its sheath and met his shoulder with her own. Through the metal, the heat quickly tuned his armor into a boiler once again. He could feel the skin on his shoulder burning, the blood that wasn't dried up running down his arm. Now shoulder to shoulder, he would take advantage of his armor and his brute strength. He curled up one fist and brought it around for the chest area. Whether he hit or not was unknown. He then proceeded to duck to the side and let her slide past him. He turned and waited for her to come back at him. He kept his sword in its sheath. He looked at her, sweat on his brow, his helmet not with him. He was loosing this battle. He was fried. He had no magic to defend himself with. But there was something. Near her feet and his also. He gave a quick mental thought and the crossbow bolts exploded. He leapt backwards as a jet of fire lept where he once stood. He couldn't see if the other had even come close to hitting her. He had brought his crossbow back up and loaded a random bolt. Lightning, he noted, just as he left the bolt fly. He fired three more in quick succession, detonating them all, and placing them far apart, giving them a good spray range. If that didn't shake up the Elder, he would have to be a little more inventive. He still had one type of bolt she didn't know about that would be most likely to do some damage. The frost bolt. Elder or no, she was not the type to hold any super strengths. Not physically anyways, she could not lift and toss boulders or beat down a dragon with her fist alone. And so, perhaps ramming her shoulder into armor was not so great an idea. It stung quite a bit, but nothing was displaced or broken. It was all in good fun anyways. Time and again she would tell herself to be serious. However, it seemed she just didn't have it in her. She was still more than happy to fight, of course. But it seemed she would have to content herself in biting back the usual quips in favor of the fight. Arcaine was accustomed to dodging blows, she was pretty light on her feet. Limber too, but that was another matter. All the same, she usually evaded as many blows are possible and tired out her opponent. Her finishing blow would be a sound whack on the head. Arcaine never fought to kill, but some people just needed a sound thrashing. She'd have to remember that this really wasn't one of those times. But still, she couldn't let the fight be easy. One had to fight until the very end and their powers were awakened through will or strife. Stepping back to evade the blow (she'd learned in fights passed that getting punched in the gut was never fun), Arcaine watched. As she turned to meet his altered position, it was quite unexpected when bolts and fire slung forth. As the wave of fire passed overhead, she would only duck to avoid catching her hair on fire. Other than that the fire passed harmlessly by. The bolts of a crossbow however, would not. A hand rose as she sought to catch the piercing barbs on her arm. It was better than the face after all. "Man, you've turned my arm into a pin cushion." She laughed to spite the pain. Her amusement however would soon be washed out by an explosion of electricity. Though the force of the blast sent her off her feet and slamming to the hard stones below, she did something important. Altering the space around the bolts, she succeeded in saving her arm from annihilation. "Oi ... guess I oughta give you some credit." As she rolled about on the ground a moment, she slowly pulled herself to her feet. With mostly destroyed bolts still embedded in her arm from hand to shoulder, her opposite hand would draw her sword. "Too bad its not enough. You aren't ready yet!" Fire lacing across her blade, she would slam it earthward, As steel touched earth a massive crack would appear. The hole which opened up threatened to dag the god to be into an endless abyss. Talk about shaking things up. |

He drew one more trick. He honestly doubted himself in this one. As the fire raged and he had the perfect smoke screen of cover, four frost bolt were unloaded into the ground. He was taking a chance. If she thawed herself out before he could get his feet out, he was screwed. If he got out first... well. He was a little less screwed. That was waste of four perfectly good bolts. He couldn't believe what happened, what she could do even after taking that massive electrical shock. The ground widened at his feet, a little to fast. He had his sword out in an instant. He feel, yes, but not very far. He slammed his sword into the side of the quickly widening wall and stood in the hilt. He managed one hand on the ledge and one on his sword. He hefted himself up, struggling from the effort. He was getting pissed. He could feel it, through every little inch of his body. This was starting to annoy him. That little side that was always repressed with alcohol and smoke was finally making it's way out. He stood, not sure what to do. Light a cigarette and put it back under or let it win the fight for him. He found it very hard to stop what he was doing when it had control. But then again, it could drive him to his death. It was almost completely oblivious to it's surroundings, all save what it was trying to kill. He let it slip in his conscious. It was boss for now. His eye color wouldn't have changed. He had the magically fixed long ago. His hair didn't grow, and neither his teeth. But his frame swelled slightly. He hardly noticed the popped shoulder, which would eventually realign it's self. Hopefully. Pop. There is goes. He turned his body sideways in her direction and held his blade out behind him. With his open hand, he stuck it out in front of him and waved her over. Halli waited to see what It did. |

She grinned. "Haha. So what are you?" The man seemed to have changed, his body mass increasing, muscles popping. And then there was the hint of losing control. It seemed that there was more to this fellow than meets the eye. Well, that was just fine with her. Her blade slashed across the earth and with it the earth would slowly repair itself. Nothing more than a scar remained. As the earth became whole again, even before it completed, she accepted his 'request'. "Gladly!" Her blade was held in one hand to keep her injured arm from stressing itself too much. Though she would fight through the pain of many bolts stabbing through her arm, she would be careful while she was able. Regardless, the enchanted blade was easily and swiftly brought to slash at the gesturing palm. If he was left single handed, well it was his own fault. |

It brought its blade down quickly, retracting its hand, only loosing the tip of the index finger. Oh well was all it thought. It brought the blade smashing into the back side of the now passed blade, trying to either knock it away, into the ground or its user off balance. Either way, it stepped in pretty quick after that and instead of hacking away, it bashed away with its fists. Halli was still howling on the inside about the finger tip. It continued. When he pulled back, it dropped out the crossbow. Frost bolts. And lots of them. They flew through the air, mixed in with the occasional electric. He detonated them all when they were very near to the mark. Eventually, if figured it would score a hit. Or freeze the opponent in a block of ice. It spent the next few minutes firing the alternating crossbow bolts, always detonating, sending wide arcs of lightning and sprays of frost and ice. He eventually switched back to his blade and focused all around, locating the target as the frenzied ice settled down. Halli had a sickening feeling and began fighting for control. Its control would last only slightly longer. |
