Eva Lynn walked about the market kicking an empty can. Go out and play! Or better yet go find a place to work for the day! said the mocking voice of the Nun Sistier Jane, that played in the Eva Lynn's head. I am only 8! i dont not need to go get a job! she told herself as she pushed her away through the throng of people so she could retrieve the can that had gone astray.

Sidarthas Monotheril, Relaxing Paladin, sat alone in a small restaurant-shack that sat upon the piers in the Open-Air Market of the Sea. Chrysamere, his legendary Paladin Blade, rested across his lap as he chew heartily upon some fried calamari extracted from the oceans.

Sid had come to the Port in order to find leads in his search for Kenji, his dragon and companion, as the Open-Air Market was known to attract both adventurers and curiosity-dealers that were well-connected with rumors and the such.

However, Sid still had no idea who'd ordered the assassin that had killed him out for his blood, so he kept a vigilant eye out for whomever might come running through the crowds for his head.

This time, though, Sidarthas had more than his eyes and ears to keep him alert: He also had his own mind.

Sid's mother, Calia Monotheril, was a mighty sorceress when she was alive, skilled particularly in Psychic arts. Compounded by the fact that his father was a powerful warlock-sorcerer, and Sid's potential for magic held much untapped ability.

Recently, after his inexplicable revival, Sid had visited his younger sister, Rika Seransi, and found a changed and scarred woman, now unpredictably powerful in several fields of magic. When she'd gotten angry with him, she'd briefly shocked him with her hands, but this shock had greater consequences.

Whatever it was, it had awakened some sort of lock in Sid's mind, and much of his latent psychic ability had sprung out after he'd left Rika's home in Blizzard Cove.

Now, he was suddenly able to make-out any lifeform within a considerable distance from him. Now, he was able to glean a person's intent and alignment at so much as a thought. Most importantly, however, Sid could read minds and emotions as well as manifest pure magic on his hands and hurl them like arrows or more-like bolts at his opponents. He did, however, have some trouble in controlling and curbing the former abilities.

An angry, somewhat hostile presence came to Sid's mind as he feasted on the succulent calamari. His ears snapping to attention, Sid heard a faint stomping-pad of barefeet upon the wood of the Market Pier, coming along with an occasional 'clank' of metal. Gripping Chrysamere's hilt, Sid turned toward the door of the restaurant to confront this potential threat, unsheathing the blade with a quick 'shink' and brought it to bear, thrusting the blade out the door at the estimated height of the neck of this assailant. Though it was low-to-the-ground, Sidarthas couldn't take any risks with this potential attacker to be a halfling or dwarf or some ilk.

Eva Lynn picked up her can but when she came up. There was a blade infront of her face. If she was in a good mood she might of been alittle more polite with what she said, HEY! what do you think your doing! she looked up to see a tall man that seemed to tower over her. She went pale then did the catholic sign of the cross because thats what she has seen Sister Mary do when unsetling things happen. she said in the same tone. Are you trying to KILL ME??? She took a couple steps back just to be sure the man wasnt going to chop off her head in a swift movent.

Sidarthas breathed a sigh of relief when he'd found not an assassin, but simply a small girl of young age. Though he regretted putting his blade at her throat, he couldn't take any chances.

"My apologies, little miss", lamented Sid as he withdrew Chrysamere and took in the young girl's features as well as probing a bit with his newfound telepathy.

She looked a lot younger than she was. Though his mental probes told him she was approximately eight years of age, her thin build and pale complexion made her look even younger, like seven or six years. She was adorned in a uniform of a nearby orphanage-school, a modest garment embossed with a cross. Her feet were bare, possibly because she liked going barefoot or because it was simply a nice day on the pier of the Open-Air Market.

Nonetheless, she was an innocent girl Sid had pulled his blade on. To atone for this sin, he quickly bowed and introduced himself.

"My name is Sidarthas Monotheril of the Order of the Neutral Paladins", he informed, quickly getting formality out of the way, "I'm sorry for pulling my sword on you, but one cannot be too careful these days. Besides, Chrysamere probably wouldn't have been able to harm you, anyway."

Rising, he stood aside for her to enter the restaurant so he could offer her some food.

"You look starved", he stated, offering her his hand, "May I offer you some food from this fine establishment?"

When the offer of food was spoken, and an invite into the resturant infront of her, she looked around nervously. Sister Marry told me not to take food from strangers. Even if she had not eating for two days.
Seconds later the stomac gave a loud growl and she quickly gave in. Well, maybe a bit or two wouldn't hurt anybody. Hold on. then she made her way to a bush that was across the street and hid her empty can. When she return to Sid, she said in a threatning tone, just trying to seem tough, If you tell anybody where i put that can I'll... I'll... I'll cut your big toe off! she nodded her head, she was satified, and quite proud, with her threat she came up with. Then she made her way into the resturant.

Sidarthas was startled by her sudden proclamation-threat to him as she padded into the restaurant. Chuckling to himself, knowing that the girl couldn't so much as pierce his armour boot, Sid sheathed Chrysamere and sat down beside her at his table.

"Here", he said, sliding his plate of calamari to her, on which there was still a considerable amount of food left, "Go on ahead, I can order more. What's your name?"

Sid sat back as he further observed the girl. She was much younger than him. If you didn't count the three years he'd been dead, Sid was fourteen years older than her: an entire generation! However, her spirit and drive reminded him of his sister, Rika Seransi, back when she was innocent and naive in the world. Now that she had grown up, Sid felt a pang of nostalgia at the thought of his younger sister, who's forcefully kicked him out of her home when he last seen her.

"So......too poor to afford shoes or do you just like going barefoot", quipped Sid as he chortled, trying to break the icy silence between the two of them.

Eva Lynn she told him when he asked her name. Then she thanked him for the food and began to eat. At first she didnt like the food, but as she continued to eat she started to like it.
when she was between bites he asked her about being bare footed. Yes she thought after he finished the phrase "too poor to afford shoes ." Hate rose inside her but she quickly pushed it aside when she smiled and answered in the form of a lie, I just like being barefoot. it makes me feel free.

The truth was she could only stand being barefoot when she was on the beach playing in the sand. she hated everything else about it. She hated when rocks cut the bottoms of her feet, andwhen mud would get between her toes when it rained. but this was her life, atleast untill somebody adpopted her.

Why do you wear shoes?

"Eva Lynn", muttered Sidarthas loudly, "Not too bad of a name."

Sid sat back as she began to feast on what was going to be his meal, but he felt no qualms about allowing her to eat his food. After all, he WAS a Paladin.

However, when he probed her mind a little more with his Telapathy, he felt her get angry when he'd asked about her financial state. Then, she lied to him about saying she liked going barefoot. Sid didn't really care, but being dishonest was a sin.

"You know, you didn't have to lie to me", Sid said softly, "If you hate going barefoot, then just tell me. As for why I wear boots.......I'm a Paladin. I'm constantly in battle and going up against multiple enemies. The boots are simply a protection, nothing more."

"You know, you didn't have to lie to me" he told her.
Eva's eyes got big and round. She fought back tears, h-h-how did you know i lied? she questioned with a trembling lip. Eva usally got away with most lies; orphans were good at lying but Eva was the best liar at the orphanage she stayed at. She hated getting caught red handed with a lie.

Eva Lynn thought about running away but then she looked at her plate, there was still some food left. She quickly made a plan to finish the food then simply run away and get her can later. WHAT IF HE STEAL MY CAN! she thought. Good tin cans were hard to come by these days.

A Paladin? she asked confused.

"Yes", responded Sid patiently, "A Paladin. I'm a Crusader against Evil. We hunt and destroy it wherever the Taint is found and purify the area to heal the world. However, with things the way they are, I don't know how well we can heal this land."

Sid's mind stretched back to the devestation he'd seen in his time since returning to Avalon. He'd missed a great war waged by the Goddess Kioku that had turned and maimed the land to the extent his own father, Reman Monotheril, had wreaked upon the Elven Kingdom of Elune.

"However, if you must know why I was able to tell you were lying", snickered Sid, "Lets just say I have a knack for identifying liars, and leave it at that." Sid patted the girl on the head softly to convey his lack of hostility.

"Don't worry, I won't hurt you. I just don't really like it when people lie to me", he sighed, leaning back in his chair a little more.

Eva was half tempted to run over and push the chair the rest of the way over. Sid just kept leaning farther and farther back. She was just waiting for him to fall back. No matter where you go, people will always lie to you. Thinking while she ate the rest of the food...

Eva knew that alittle to well for her age. her mother would lie to her all the time, saying "Oh hunny i will be back in a couple hours!" but then she wouldnt return for days. She was sad when her mother died, but even sadder when she was put into the orphanage. Everytime somebody said they wanted to adopt Eva Lynn, just left after the second visit and never come back. When she was younger she would cry everytime that would happen but now its just apart of life. because of all of this she plays alone, distant from all the other children, afraid that if she gets to close to another person they to will just leave her alone.

Not liking the seriousness of the conversation she quickly changed topics. she looked down at her empty plate then asked, Want to go kick my can around with me? she asked eagerly.

Sid leaned back forward and plopped his chair's elevated legs back onto the ground. Raising his eyebrows in sort of a confused inquiry, he found that her mind was honest when she'd asked him to kick her can with her.

"Uhhhh", he started, unable to come up with a witty rejoinder or some sort of dismissing remark for so simple a request, "You're very obsessed about that tin can......I know you're young, but why're you so focused on a small piece of tin? I mean, you hid the can and then you threatened to cut my toe off if I revealed the location to anyone else, and now you're asking me to kick it with you......Why are you so obsessed?"

(Dammit, STILL the wrong account)

how could you asked me that! she cried, as she suddenly stood up. Tears filled her eyes, it was the only friend she had, she outcasted herself fromthe rest of the childern. IT'S MY ONLY FRIEND! She quickly ran out of the resaurant, to the bushes across the street.

She fell to her knees and crawled under the bushes. She felt around for the can, tears streaming down her face. She couldnt find the can, she couldnt find HER can. where are you? she quietly said as she continued to search for it. She pushed herself farther into the bushes to see if it rolled back. But is wasnt there. She kept looking for over five minutes, then she gave up. She pulled herself out of the bushes empty handed, and covered in dirt.

Sid's eyebrow shot up when Eva ran outside the restaurant to find her can. Watching her frantically scramble and scrounge for her can, Sid rose and followed when she'd emerged tear-faced and desperate.

"It's interesting how a young, sociable girl like you is unable to make some decent friends", slithered Sid sympathetically, looking down at his feet and spotting Eva's tin can, her 'only friend.'

Kicking the can upward and catching it in his hand, Sid spun it on the tip of his gauntleted finger a few times before tossing it and catching it.

"Here, I believe this is your's", spoke Sid as he tossed the can at Eva, "and now, I have things to do and I must take my leave of you. Farewell, Eva Lynn, perhaps we will meet again."

Sid sank into a graceful bow before setting off down the pier, continuing to try and find someone who might know where Sid's dragon had gone off to.

She wiped the tears from her face when she saw that Sid had her can in his hand. she watched as Sid spun it on the tip of his gauntleted finger a few times before tossing it and catching it. Then he tossed it to her. Then bid farwell and walked away. looks like you made a new friend she told the can, then her eyes filled with tears again. sobbing she said I GUESS YOU DONT NEED ME NOW! then she dropped the can and kicked it as hard as she could, then ran in the oposite direction.
