Air Pirate and Firebender
|
It was a dark and stormy night, with cold winds and sleet was raining on the windows of the tavern. Smoke from pipes and the fire made a dusty cloud in the room, but no one seemed to care. There was a bar at one end of the room, and empty tables all around. There were a few people in the bar, and a girl sat alone in the middle of the long bar itself. She held a teacup in her hand, the steam from its hot contents, and she sipped it contentedly. Her hazel eyes danced around the room, lighting on the door, the fire, and the wood-grain before her. It had been a long time since she’d found any rest in any place. Life hadn’t been easy on the immortal, half-breed girl. She was part elf, part human, part air bender, part fire bender. It was hard for her to fit in anywhere. She was searching for her father right now, but he had been hard to find. He had an airship that carried him high above the clouds, and she couldn’t use her flight spell to fly for very long before her magic ran out. Right now, she was resting herself for the next spurt. Her mother was still in Preah for all she knew, and it was hard enough leaving her. Rose’s half-brother was gone too, and she missed him terribly. He too was with their father, and it was all she could do to not just erupt into tears or flames…either one was wrong. Her thoughts were elsewhere as she sipped on her tea, completely oblivious to the door blowing open and the gathering storm outside. |

Minutes turned into hours, and hours into days, and days, into nights. Romani Genoviana, A.K.A. Roni, had escaped from Blizzard Cove not only a few weeks ago, it was there, that he had hoped to be safe from the mysterious plague that had ravaged the land. Roni was particular to stay close to the shore, near the waters that he loved so much. In his short lifetime of 25 years, he had seen war, pirates, merchant and royal ships filled with gold and riches. He had also seen death, pillaging, and enough to make anyone's hair curl, thus was his old pirate life. His newer life, that of a spice merchant, aboard his own ship, the Spice Raider, sailing through the spanish seas, had ended with a storm, and a crash. This unfortunate event lead him, by the mists, to Avalon. He had since lost everything he had on that ship, his untold spices, and riches. Now, they were sunk under millions of gallons of water... Roni sighed, this particular night on the beach was cold, wet, and blowing with the torrent of the sea winds. No bird flew in the night, and even then, none would brave the gale of this storm. He had stepped lightly on the beach, the soaking water was quickly turning the it into a makeshift land of quicksand, ready to swallow Roni in it's hungry mouth that spanned over it's whole body. Roni skipped from stone to stone, as though the cold, wet sand, was instead hot, boiling lava, and Roni saught to keep out of this to-be deathtrap. He glanced up through the rain his tri-corn hat spilling the water off it like a gutter. His cloak was billowing furiously in the wind, as though wanting to fly off on it's own and live it's own life. His red shirt was soaked, and his black breeches and boots were the same. He was glad his rapier was in it's scabbard, it's blade would rust if left out in this weather for too long. Also greatful he was of his waterproof bag, wich held his tools and herbs dry from the on coming winds and water. Past his streaming hat, Romani saw a familar sight, the Open Air Market, now desolate of life, so it seemed, inhabited only by the rains and gusts. He made his way past the rocks, and leaped up onto the dock, his boots, though wet, got a good foothold on the wood, and he bounced one more, getting both feet safely onto the dock. He walked quickly now, not having a quicksand imposter slow his movements. His first, and main concern, even though it held his second, was to find a tavern, where good heat and ale would warm him up. His second thought was to get out of the rain. He walked to the closest tavern and looked at it for what seemed like an immense time, then, seeing as he recognized the place, walked in. The door blew open and the gathering storm outside, blew harder, as a flash of lightning showed Roni's shadowy form in the doorway, illumiated by the electricity. Roni immediately tore off his hat, water pouring on the floor, as his hair, neatly in a ponytail, but still wet, slid out of the hat, and down back to shoulder length. His boots made a slick squishing sound with it's thuds against the wooden planks of the tavern. He strolled up lightly to the bar, and sat down, removing his cloak, and setting it down on the seat next to him, showing his red shirt and rapier, previously hidden under the folds of soggy cloth. He smiled at the bartender, as he said "should I get you a room?" Roni chuckled lightly, and said in his Spanish accent "First, I would like a nice drink to warm my cold bone." The bartender quickly went to go collect a drink, one of his strongest, for the young, wet spice trader. Roni gldly paid for the brew, and a room, and sighed, looking down into the liquid before taking a gulp... |

Rose had heard footsteps on the floor, and glanced over to look at the newcomer, but her interest wasn’t piqued too much…he appeared to be the typical type to find in this area….shifty, though well kept, muscular from hard work on board a ship, and, above all, like a pirate. She smiled to herself, thinking how ironic it was…she was a pirate as well, but one of a different sort than those found around here. After all, how many could boast of being one of the last blooded air pirates in the land? She smirked, thinking about what she had left to do…nothing in particular. It was a slightly sad outlook on her life, but there really was nothing special TO do. She just needed to find something specific and special to live for and strive for. Her brothers were both missing as was her father and mother, but it was a challenge to find them in such a damned big place. With a small shift in her weight, her eyes sparkled and she cast a glance over at the attractive young man beside her. She wasn’t sure about what he was like, at least from the look he wore, bore, and managed to keep at a neutral shade. It bothered her slightly, because she was one who could normally read a person rather easily, but now…she was rather stumped. Without wanting to appear rude, she brought her eyes back to focus on the bar before her. |

He grunted lightly, more like a sigh, at the sting of the brew, it sending warm shocks through his brain and body. It was strong, there was no doubt about that, but it was good. IT tasted of alcohol and caramel, a strange mixture, but good none the less. He, despite the fact of the strength of the drink before him, was very level headed. He had spent time with pirates, and sea-men alike, drinking with them for sure. In his younger years he had often gotten drunk and passed out. He hadn't done that in a few years, knowing his limits. He sipped another bit more of the brew, swishing it around in his mouth lightly, and then swallowed it, feeling the sting, and relishing in the warmth. Even though he had his eyes on the brew, his vision out of the corner of his eyes were almost perfect. He had seen the girl, and even saw her eyes as she glanced his way. No, not his way, directly at him. He thought for a second. He turned lightly to the girl, he lowered his head, and smiled warmly at her, as she turned her head back to the bar before her. She was an interesting one, her auburn hair and her glittery eyes. She was quite attractive, by any standards, and her youth had given her the body to accompany the looks, a very nice combination indeed. Romani then looked about her, she was more than just eye candy, he saw, she was a woman who could stand up for herself, she was someone who was not among these witless crowds that so populated the lands and seas of Avalon, she was a unique individual and a prized person, just by her subtle nature. Roni looked at his brew once and then turned back to her, another smile crept upon his face, lightly, and inconspicuously. He leaned over to her and said, his spainish accent flowing with every word, like those of the waves themselves "Yes m'lady? is there something I, Romani Genoviana, spice trader, can do for you?" His brown eyes shone a light twinkle, and his words like butter upon bread... |

A warm voice, like the beach in June, spoke softly to the air between the two people. It was like being welcomed home again, like nothing wrong ever happened in this world…it was truly an amazing voice. She looked over at the man with a sharp, but not unfriendly glance. His face was handsome and kind, yet rugged from the hard days and life at sea. She didn’t be such marks herself, just a dark tan to show her time in the sun. Something about his face made her think there was more to him, yet that he was a simple creature. Rose looked harder at him, examining him with a keen eye, yet trying hard to not appear rude. She was merely interested in finding out more about him. The blade strapped to her side wasn’t glowing, so he wasn’t evil, but it didn’t matter anyway. “You can do little for me, good sir, except to be my company for a while. I am bored and need a person to talk to…perhaps its more lost than bored.” She told the truth. She was bored, and afraid of letting her own thoughts take over and make her miserable from being so alone. She took another sip of her drink, and glanced over at the fire, almost wishing she could head over there to warm up with more than just a stout drink. She was sore form her long day of travelling, and the old didn’t help with her stiff muscles either. She shifted slightly to find a more comfy spot on the worn barstools. The sleet outside had grown harder, and it didn’t appear that she would be leaving here tonight. |

Roni smiled at the thought of keeping her company, certainly an interesting prospect to indulge. Romani shook off the thought mentally, this lady was no wench he could coax into a room and convince her to have his way with her. He felt this was different, she was not just a piece of meat to rub against. He sighed mentally, still keeping his composure about himself. The rain outside turning cold and slushy, due to the mix of rain and sleet. He was lucky to get out of the incredible storm, and into dry housing, even more lucky, so it seemed, to stumble upon such a fine woman. He smiled again at her, his pearly white teeth perfect under his natural slender, yet full lips. He said to her, in the same tone of voice as before, using his alluring spainish accent he had no control over, "Why yes, my dear, I would happily enjoy the company of such an interesting woman of such caliber as yourself." His words sounded sincerely genuine, and his eyes still held that interested gleam. "And lost, are you? That is a pity, one of your such beauty should never be lost, and luckily I found you, too, for I would wish of no other person to, even though you would have little trouble dispatching any unwanted company, I presume," He made a glance at her blade, and smiled lightly again, his voice, at the times needed sounded concerned, then flicking in between the two sides like the striking of cords on a instrument. He returned to his brew a bit, taking a sip, letting the flavor flush in his mouth. He turned to her again and said "any what, by chance, would I call the lovely lady siting beside me? I would rather like to know the name, so I could better address you," Like honey, dripping with sincerity in his voice, unrecognizable if they were false words, or a trick. Roni didn't think so, it was just how he spoke, his linage had raised him as a gentleman, no matter how charismatic or flirtatious he was. He looked at her up and down once, subtly, so not to give her the impression of detailing her figure, though nice it was. He smiled, for he had finally found good company out of the cold pouring rain slush, and such an interesting one at that... |

There was no mistaking the small glimmer in his eyes; Rose had seen it plenty of times before, and she was no stranger to it. It’s gotten her into enough trouble in years past, and it looked like that same flame that sparked in each man’s eyes was starting up again. It was irritating, but in a way, also rather pleasing, for it made her remember just how good she looked for her age. A sly smile, that dammed adorable accent, and Rose lost herself in a moment of flirtation. He was a rather interesting character, and not quite what she had expected, but then again, once anyone got to know her, neither was she anything like what they thought. She had more facets to her than a finely-carved gemstone, and it was always an adventure learning about her. ”I’m not lost…not really. I have lost something though…plenty of things. And I do thank you for your company. When things are not right in someone’s world, its nice to have a listening ear.” She chuckled at his alluding to her having many suitors. She had her fair share over the years, and it was hard to forget her first love, but alas for times gone by and love faded and gone. It was a sad thing, but she never forgot it and the power it held. His eyes flicked to her swords, and she smiled as she sipped her drink. No, she had little trouble handling herself alone…even some of the foes that had taken on her mother had taken her on and come from the fight with more than their fair share of bruises and blood. “You may call me anything, for I answer to any name; my common name in the area, and to many people, is the Nightingale. But, if you wish for my given name, it’s Rose Xavier.” Why on earth had she told him her pirate name, and then her real name? It was a startling thing, even to her. She hadn’t been called Rose in a long time, and it almost sounded strange rolling off her tongue as it did…but it was nice to hear it again, nonetheless. And, liking th sounds of names...she liked his as well. It was different from what she normally heard, but it had an exotic sound to it. |

Roni watched her for a long period, his green glinting eyes never leaving the sight of her lips as she spoke, even though it was a short time. The lights of the firelight from across the room was lit in his eyes, burning bright as he evaluated the young supple girl before him. He smiled slightly as he carefully digested her words, filtering them through his mind. he smiled lightly and thought about how her mind worked, he wanted to, he wanted to dive deep down and find out what made this girl at the bar tick. He wanted to get inside her head and shuffle through the life, to look into the deep mindset of her and understand. Some of him also wanted to leave something in there, an imprint, a thought of him in her mind, a clue, or a command in her brain, but that was just a fleeting thought, he had no mental powers that enabled him to dive into this girl's head, he'd just have to do it the old fashioned way, through conversation. He told her, in a low voice, his accent rolling off his expert tongue "Alright then, let me hear your story, I'll be an ear for you to whisper, and a body for you to vent to." He knew he was going to have to really work with this woman, as he thought before, she was no regular tavern wench, no regular old pirate girl looking for fun. She, as he thought also before, was different, special, in a way, and confusing in another way he could not place. Yet his ability to sway words and charm was not wavered. He could almost feel her breath from her mouth and nose, it tantalized his senses, and sent his mind aflame. There was something about this woman that so took control of him, his mind, making him think of her. Was it her subtle style of how she was? or something deeper? Either way, he smiled again and said, with his voice in a bit of amusement, "Call you anything, then? Well, that is a call I will have to accept, and the name I choose is most fitting for you, I shall call you," He lightly placed his fingers on her hand, placing his hand down lightly on hers continuing, his voice barely more than a whisper, and even more, he held a bit of something else he could not place in his voice, saying it slowly, "Beautiful"... |

Rose knew his game, but for once, the first time in a very long time, she was more than willing to let him play it, and to let herself fall into his hands as he played. She was more than ready for a good bit of flirtation…after all, flirting never hurt anyone…though she had learned the hard way the last time, and it had been all the worse for her. She shut those memories from her mind for now and came back to the present. Roni was speaking again, and she winked playfully at him, taking another sip of her drink. “I will tell my story eventually…what happened in one’s life don’t need to be spilled out on the first encounter. Besides…if I told you half of what I’ve gone through, you would be more willing to stay away than to sit and listen.” She took another sip of her drink, nodding at the bartender to refill her glass. With a sharp, but subtle breath in, she looked up at the mirror behind the bar, a treasure in this area. The face that stared back at her was her own, but she never thought it especially pretty, attractive, or special in any way…she wasn’t raised to be a vain little peacock like so many other children had been. No, she just thought she was who she was, and yes, she might be cute, but pretty had never been spoken to her before. It was a bit surprising a the very least. There was something about this man that made her stop and take a closer look, in a sense of the word. She wanted to learn more about him, and she knew that in her own subtle way she would be able to. It was just a matter of time before he would let her inside to see what made him work. But, alas for fear of getting close…she was scared of getting to know anyone, for her last relationship had ended in a sharp and almost unfair way…he had disappeared, and she assumed him dead. It killed Rose, but she had to move on, and live her life…that had been more than a hundred years ago now, closer to two, and she was still as young and impetuous as she had been then. Only now, she knew what to look for and how to avoid any more trouble than necessary…and it had made it hard on her to find someone to be with because of it. The soft whisper of his voice made her lean in a tiny bit to catch what he was saying, and she blushed at his words, though she knew it made her appear all the more ready for the picking in his eyes…she was sure of that. Men took her easy nature to blush as a sign that they could move ahead and try anything they wanted…wrong. She wasn’t one to let someone inside her life just like that…no, she was far more careful about that. |

The storm outside played more across the battered docks and tavern. The winds blew harder, not letting up it's attempted to blow down the whole sea-port, and it was almost doing the job. The bar creaked as the sleet and storm barred against the windows and wall, much like that of a certain pirate girl that was currently sitting next to an ex-pirate spice trader. Romani straightened up at her blush, he had seen such a hundred times over, he knew it, and he lived it. No, no, this was different, Roni mentally shook the thoughts from his head. She was playing way to smartly for that to slip out, he knew. Or did she? Was that an actual reaction? Roni thought to himself, almost letting the question manifest into a raised eyebrow. Roni smiled and sat back casually in his stool, taking up the drink he had, and sipping it again, the strong brew hitting his throat and windpipe with a burning sensation. But the burn was enjoyable. He liked the taste of alcohol, and the sting and burn that came with it. unlike most people, he enjoyed the taste. Most drink to forget, or to just get drunk. Roni drunk for the taste, and the pleasure. He was a taster of wine, and good spirits. Roni smiled again, and leaned in again, resting his head on his hand, and his elbow on the bar. He looked up at her and said "Alright then, m'lady, what shall you tell me?" He did not resist the tempting smile that spread across his face, so fluidly that it just seemed to pour across like the waters he loved. His mind always wondered about certain things, such as love, and lust. Roni barely knew the line between the two, like most humans in the world who couldn't understand both. Roni could tell lust, very much so, but the emotion of love confused him. He had known that, a few times, or so he thought, but then again, he never was too sure about that. He just knew that he was enchanted by this young looking woman, and he desired to learn about her... |

A shriek of the wind outside and Rose turned to look at the window for a moment, lost in her thoughts. The tempest outside only reminded her of the tempest in her own life and how she would weather it. She had heard once that your attitude shaped you in this life, and she was more than willing to find a way to make her destiny her own. She wasn’t happy at her small slip up, but hey, what could she do but move on and try to save face for the moment, and move on. However, she didn’t miss the cock of his eyebrow at her falter. Winking at him, she took another sip of her drink, the sharp, and biting taste running down her throat. It warmed her belly and made her a bit sleepy, but she could handle far more than just two drinks…she had learned how to down more than twenty drinks and still walk straight…for a little while anyway. There was a glimmer in the spice trader’s eye that she knew too well…and almost was willing to give in to. Her face was blank as she looked back over at him, taking in his handsome face and his delicious voice. There was something about this man that she could get lost in, and she wanted to know what made up his life and his mind. What would it hurt to tell her of her life? Probably more than she would like to know, but is would be better to wait, she figured. After all, you spill your story and you lose any air of mystery about you. |

Roni watched her, looking up at her with his emerald green eyes. He cocked another eyebrow at her wink, then smiled at her. He knew she wasn't going to answer, he could feel it in her eyes. Romani sat back up, watching her, his glint stayed, he broke contact just long enough to take another drink of his brew, which was almost empty. The burning felt pleasent on his throat, and it made him a bit more confident. He smield again, and said, his mouth curved with a bit of smugness, "So, not going to tell me then, well," e leaned over to his resting position he had a moment ago, "How mysterious," He gave a wink, he knew what games she was playing, and he went along with it, for now. Roni took a bold step, and lightly lifting his hand, which had seen amny a sea battle, ansd storm, He placed it down on her's very lightly, and looked up at her, smiling very slyly. He looked into her eyes, with his green sparkling emerald eyes, he connected gazes with her, hoping to push past the tiny flirting, and move into a more familar area he knew. He was not tiring of the game, yet he would rather it be quicker than slow. He never looked out of her eyes, even as the wind blew harder than before, he did not break that connection. He lifted himself closer to her, never breaking hte connection, until he was as eye level with the girl, barely six or seven inches a part. He looked into her eyes, as though trying to study them, as he leaned in closer, he hand squeezed her lightly, as he moved to about two inches from her mouth, his face held a somewhat serious, slightly passionate look. He smilied again, and drew awat from her, lifting his hand off her's and reached fro his drink, taking another sip. He could not the the sight of her so close to him out of his head, her scent, her skin. He looked out the window like nothing had just happened, watching with his perifierial vision, to see what reaction she had... |

”Perhaps I will tell you something of me someday….mysterious or not.” Rose winked at him and gave a small giggle. He was amusing at the very least, and she was finding him more and more charming with every passing moment. She hadn’t had much to drink, so she wasn’t so addle headed as she had been with the last man that had tried this sweet routine on her…no, this time she knew exactly what she was doing. Those damned green eyes were so beautiful…she felt like she could drown in them. It almost seemed like he was trying to make it that way, for when she looked back over at him, his eyes were piercing hers, and she couldn’t break that gaze. Her amber eyes watched him carefully, and she smiled softly, a faint pink blush glowing on her cheeks. His scarred hand was so warm against her much smaller one, and she let her fingers slide gently into place around his, playfully intertwining and unwinding. The closeness of his skin and lips against hers made her want more than he was giving her, and, after he turned to get a drink, she managed to slide a bit closer to him. He was cutting a glance at her, and she grinned at him, before leaning in to whisper in his ear. ”You are very clever, you know….and altogether far too charming. But I suppose you already know all you need to about me…everything that is pertinent for now, at least…but, do you know what I think of you? Or, do you care?” In all honesty, Rose was thinking some rather raunchy thoughts, but she didn’t exactly care…she just wanted to continue flirting, but, it appeared that if he responded correctly, she was end up not being alone tonight after all. Not that she would have a clue what to do…after all, she still hadn’t been with anyone…ever… It made her feel like she was stupid, but it didn’t matter…in fact, it was all rather silly to be thinking of that at the moment…what would happen would happen and she had no control over it. All she knew was that she wanted it to happen faster than it was…. |

Roni turned as soon as she was done whispering in his ear. He moved in strongly, placing a hand lightly on her cheek, and leaned in. He moved closer to her mouth, and bypassed it, moving to her ear, and whispering lightly in it, barely making a sound, "I think, I have a slight idea of what you think of me, my dear, and I would care." Roni leaned back and smiled at her. He was thinking of a lot of things, and was considering, but this will have to do for now. Roni leaned in again, and whispered, "Lets see if I can guess it right." With that he drew back slightly, and came back in, sinking his lips onto hers. Romani wrapped his arm around and placed a hand on the back of her head, tilting his to get a better kiss. He pushed against her lightly, kissing her deeper. His head swam with the possibilities and ideas which stemmed through this action they were preforming, this kiss. Roni held the lip lock for a small bit, holding her a but tighter, then released her back to the world of the breathing. Roni released his grasp on her, sliding his hand off the back of her head, and removing the one from her cheek, replacing that one on her hand, slightly looping the fingers, he knew she teased him, and he knew that after this long, she wasn't going to argue or disagree with his action. He was just sure of it, as he smiled with triumph and passion, he sighed and looked back into her eyes, his mouth wanting to dive back onto her lips and to press them onto his, to feel the moisture between their interlocked mouths, the sensation it brought him, the feeling he was so addicted to. He controlled himself, hard enough as it was, being barely three inches from those rose colored lips, he could just lean in again, and... No, he resolved himself, he would wait for her to say it was acceptable, as if that ever stopped him before. He smiled, and said, his voice a but husky, but retaining it's regular suave, "so, was I close?" |

Rose smiled into his kiss, enjoying the way his lips felt against hers. There was really something to this man, but she wasn’t sure what it was. After all, he was charming and rather handsome, but why was she letting herself go so quickly into this man’s arms? The last time, she’d ended up drunk, and nearly let herself be taken by someone she wasn’t even sure was the kind of man she wanted to be around…and now…here she was again. But, this time, she figured this man out faster. At least…she thought that she did. He seemed to be better than the last that’d tried to bed her, and she actually liked this one. A soft whisper in her ear, and she smiled at him, winking slyly at his obvious desire for more than he was taking. She knew the feeling all too well, and was rather…intrigued by him and his passions. It amused her. “Yes…you were very close. But…you didn’t exactly hit the nail on the head there.” She winked again, then turned to pay for her drinks. It had been a long day, and she needed her sleep, and, for the sake of her head, nothing more to drink. She had planned on leaving early in the morning to go and find another adventure, but she wasn’t sure just how well that was going to play out. Something in her wanted to stay and hang out around here some more, and, it appeared that she would get her chance. A minstrel walked in, his flute dripping from the rain, and his clothing all drenched. Rose watched him idly, before tossing him a coin to get a song going. She wanted to join him in his little musical endeavor, but that wasn’t her place, but it was her desire. As the minstrel sang softly by the fire, Rose hummed along, singing the song of two lovers in the elvish tongue, wishing that the ballad would never end. |
