Everyone knows of the lost land, a dangerous place where dragons roam, and only the brave, or very foolish tred, however, there is a legend. Dragons live to be thousands of years old, their bodies pillers of strength and endurance, fangs and claws become as strong as any armor, the scales more inpenatable then platemail. A weapon carved from a dragons bone is said to become legendary, carrying the strength of the dragon it was once part of. These fierce creatures are perhaps the most dangerous, but what happens to those that grow to old to continue? Legends speak of a secret place, where old dragons go to die, where the sky is alway caught in the crimson glow of twilight. There is said to be a wealth in dragon skins and bones from the most ancient of the species. Still a place like this is said to be unreachable by men, and only dragons can find the way...

***

Draco flew through the sky above the lost land, amazed at how desolate the place seemed in comparison to the other parts of the world he had seen. He wondered why he did not see many towns about these parts. Of course the reasons he had been told he found hard to believe, fear of dragons? While he hadn't actually met any real dragons yet, he could say he he didn't find anything scary about them. Well, that was because he was a dragon himself.

His travels had lead him about the lands, where he had met a few interesting people, and made a few friends, but his curousity was pulling him to the biggest questions of this life, namely, what were dragons like? All he had knowledge of were the stories he had been raised on of knights and dragons fighting, tales that he believed every word of in his innocents, but the more people he met seemed to have a very different opinion of dragons then the stories suggest, and he wished to find out exactly what real dragons were like, and so, he had been making his way to the lost land, where people say dragons live.

***

He had been flying for hours, and was starting to feel a little worn out and thirsty. Spotting a small creek, he came in for a landing, folding his wings as he bent to drink. As he did so, something caught his attention. Or rather, he felt something that sent a tingling sensation up his spine. It was not something he could see, nor exactly something he could hear, but something he felt in his entire being. It was an unfamiliar feeling, almost a tugging sensation. He knew there was something out there, and it was something that seemed to call to him.

A shadow fell over the land, moving at speed as it glided effortlessly over the rough terrain. The shadow belonged to a dragon by the looks of things though appearances could be deceiving for in reality a draconian flew over the land though right now she was in her largest of the three forms she could take and that was of a huge glistening blue ice dragon, her wings beating rythmically and blocking out the light from above as she moved.

This dragon was Istelle and she was here in order to get away from the pressures of life as it were. She often did this, taking to the air in order to fly and think for a while for when she was alone she could allow her mind the freedom it needed to think which was ultimately to the benefit of the tribe and Preah as she was able to focus on important matters. Today however she just wanted to clear her mind and enjoy the cold of high altitudes against her frosted blue scales.

However, it was then that something caught her attention. She was flying today over a part of Avalon that she had not been to before and she had to admit that even at this height there was an eerie feel to the place that made her for some reason want to fly a little lower. As she did however she caught the scent of something on the wind.....another dragon by the smell of it and this of course aroused Istelle's curiosity, her keen mind already working overtime trying to see if she could place the scent. She couldn't of course as this dragon was a complete unknown to her and circling lazily she drew lower untill she could see the dragon below, her pale glacial blue eyes taking everything in as she prepared to land nearby, a low roar escaping her maw announcing her presence as she did so.

Draco was so entranced by the unfamiliar feeling, he did not notice the dragon approaching until the roar passed into his hearing, in which he shook his head, trying to clear it to focus on what was in the immediate vacinity. When he saw the blue dragon landing a tingle of excitement rand from the pit of his stomach to his heart, his tail twitching in agitation, and Draco reacted the way he did when ever such a mood took him.

"OH MY GOD, A DRAGON!!!!!!" Draco shouted, bounding up to the ice dragon as gleefully as a puppy does to it's playmate. "Are you a REAL dragon?" He asked curiously, "Case I thought I met a dragon once, but it was actually a woman who could change into a dragon, she said she was half dragon, and that's' why she could change so I don't really think that she counts as a real dagon. You have pretty scale, they're all sparkly. I've always wondered, does dragon scale color mean anything? Can you breath fire? I haven't figured it out quite yet, can you teach me? Do you know anything about knighs and princesses? Cause all the stories say that dragons kidnap princesses and fight knights and I wanted to know why a dragon would want a princess in the first place? Do dragons fly south for the winter, cause I've seen birds do it, but I don't know if a dragon counts as a bird. Are a group of dragons called a flight, a pride or a herd?

Now, anyone who had met Draco could tell you that he was a very niaive young dragon, which was expected considering his upbringing, and the questions the asked rolled into each other as he excitedly asked te new dragon everything and anything that came to mind.

Of all the things Istelle was prepared for she certainly wasn't prepared for the headlong rush of a whelpling the moment she landed and as such it took Istelle back a little as almost instantly she spread her large blue wings and took off for a second hovering just above the ground for a moment before landing again, tossing her head and snorting a little as two icy vapour trails slowly rose from her nostrils and she looked at this young one trying to take everything in as she did so.

"Calm down!" Istelle said loudly, her tone glacial as she spoke. "It is impolite to rush upon someone with questions like that. Give a dragon a chance to land first young one and maybe you will find that your questions will be answered!"

With that the great ice dragon folded her wings neatly against herself and took a deep breath as she looked at the young dragon before her. "Hmmm....obviously not an ice type.....not the right colouring and not draconian either by scent.......young but healthy not even out of first shedding yet I'd say....less then a century certainly.....interesting..." Istelle was musing more to herself now as she took in everything about this youngster going by scent, sight and sound as she went on with her appraisal for a moment longer before falling silent and regarding the young dragon with a stern look.

"Young one, you seem to know little about dragonkin. How so? Someone seems to have been woefully ignorant regarding your education. My own son not even out of his first decade yet seems to know more of dragonkin then you. Fortunate you are however that I am here and might teach you a little something it seems."
With that Istelle let out a large sigh of ice breath. "First of all, I am not a dragon, I am a draconian. There is a difference. The form I am in is my dragon form. however I can take two other forms one of them being human, the other my hybrid Draconian form...the form I hatched in. All three forms are natural to me and I am as much dragon as human......I am NOT a half dragon however and would deem it a great insult to be referred to in such a way." Istelle nodded slightly in order to get her point across, the snowflake at her neck sparkling as she nodded. "Secondly, we dragonkin are elementals...You most likely be the looks of you have some fire within you. I however am an ice dragon hence my colouring. there ore other types as well but I will not go onto them right now. you will learn in time".

Istelle paused for a moment here in order to let the young dragon digest the information she had just given him before she went on.

"As for the whole princess thing......myth and rumours. humans do not like the dragon flights very much. they fear us for the most part and often relay these stories to villify us. you will learn this in time and will be wary of humans. I at least escape this by assuming a human form but no, we do not capture princesses though some dragons have in the past....usually with their own reasons."

Istelle paused again then wondering just what she had flown into. gone now were her hopes of a nice quiet flight before going back home to the hidden castle she loved so much within the mountains. Instead here she was acting the teacher to an overexcitable whelp. "And as for your question about what a gathering of dragons is called.....it is called a flight of dragons or dragonflight...whichever you prefer. the same applies for draconians, and now curious one......what is your name?"

Draco watched in awe as the blue dragon puffed mists of icy vapor, thinking to himself that it was extremely cool as he listened to her explain herself and answer his questions. He was alittle disappointed that she was not a dragon, but a draconian sounded like the next best thing, as she was able to answer questions that Narina had been unable to when he was with her. He was especially pleased to hear that he may have some fire in him, and wondered if she could teach him how to pull off the feat of breathing fire. He sat down as he listened to her, his tail twitching from side to side as he watched and listened carefully, though stil excited, the initial rush was over, and he was gradually calming down, so by the time Istelle had finished, he was in a much less overwhelming mood.

"My name is Draco, and your the first dragon.. well, I guess draconians arn't specifically dragons, but still, your the first very close thing to being a dragon I've met. My parents didn't know much about dragons so I don't know much about them. Well they're not really my parent parents, they were human, but they raised me so their close enough. Anyway, I wanted to learn more about dragons, so I came here, people kept on saying this is where dragons live, and since I found you, that must mean that they were at least partially right, since draconians are sort of dragons, or at least look like them sometimes..."

Suddenly Draco's sentance trailed off, as a strange sensation went off in the back of his mind, distracting him from his train of thought, it was like a whistling music, but he wasn't sure it was music at all. He could feel it, it was almost pulpable, and it seemed to be coming from the direction of the mountains. "Do you hear that?" he asked, not sure if it was just him or wither his strange sensation was an actual sound. Strangely, it was familiar, though he couldn't recall ever hearing it before in his life, and it seemed to stir a sort of warm feeling in him.

Istelle sat as the young dragon spoke, curling her long barbed tail around her neatly like a cat and looking at the youngster with interest in her glacial eyes. He truly was a strange one and what he said about his upbringing made Istelle see why he was the way he was. Brought up be humans...the travesty! No wonder he was woefully ignorant about the ways of dragons or he wouldn't have dismissed her as being near dragon. In the form she was in, Istelle was all dragon, everything about her. Despite being a Draconian she was just as much a dragon as he was and anyway, she was proud of being Draconian. She was part of a great warrior race, strong, vibrant and immensely powerful. Istelle if she had the choice would be nothing else but who she was and it showed.

"I am easily as much a dragon as you....Draco, only I am also more then a dragon. That is a Draconian's gift. You will understand one day perhaps but it is a complicated thing to explain and so I will not right now." Istelle's voice as she spoke was cold as ice though there was no malice. It was just the way she was, her element being so strong within her. As for your being raised by humans....no wonder you know so little of your own kind. That is truly a shame. At least I have remedied this a little."

It was then that Draco seemed to lose interest being attracted by something else, an odd sound that had also caught Istelle's ear as he asked her if she heard it.

"Yes I do. Strange.....I don't know this place well so I don't know what it is." Istelle got up then and changing form, she took on her draconian form, standing upright like a human and smaller then a dragon yet she had the face of a dragon and was still covered in scales as well as having wings and a long powerful tail. Only now she wore clothing, a pale blue dress the same colour as her eyes slit each side to the hip so that she had ease of movement. Also a wicked looking scimitar appeared at her side in adittion to her wicked teeth and talons. "Stay behind me Draco. Who knows what it is and I am better able to fight off trouble then you if there is any. That being said....do you want to go look?" Istelle looked round as Draco as she spoke, a slight enquiring tone to her glacial voice.

"Wow, that's cool," said Drake as he watched Istelle transform into a draconian, "It must be handy being able to walk into buildings, I tried once but the people didn't like it so much, and I kept knocking things over. Mom grounded me for a week for that insident. Of course it was during their party so I think I can understand why they were upset." He thought it must be nice to be able to change like that, of course Narina could change too, but she turned into a human, and not a draconian, and the draconians could fly, so they had a bit of both worlds.

"I don't think it's something bad," said Draco, stepping in the direction of the sound, "It's like... " he tried to think of a way to describe what he was feeling, it was like a feeling of comfort, it almost reminded of when his human mother held him in her arms, of course he had long grown to large for that, but it was a feeling that stayed with you, a feeling of security. "I think we should check it out," said Draco, about ready to leap into the air. "Oh by the way, do you think you could give me a hint about the whole fire breathing thing? I do want to figure that one out at least. I know it's probably not the same as breathing ice, but I imagine it must be somewhat similar." Even though he wanted to find out about the music, Draco was still Draco, and fire breathing had been a curiousity for him since youth, and since Istelle had said she was a dragon, he guessed maybe she could give him a few pointers on the way to their location.

(( Sorry about the delay))

Istelle looked at Draco as he reacted to her transformation. she had forgotten in truth how spectacular it could look to someone who had never seen a draconian change before. After all, back home within the Valley everyone was used to the changing shape of the dragons and draconians there and no one really batted an eyelid. It therefore surprised the icy draconian a little that Draco should react this way untill she reminded herself that she wasn't at home right now.

"The change of size does I admit have it's advantages", Istelle allowed as she gave her scimitar a quick practice swing listening with satisfaction as the blade sung in the air. It felt good to have her blade in her hand being the warrior that she was. "I can get smaller still however....when I become human of course." The icy tones of Istelle's voice sounded matter of fact as she spoke forgetting once again that not all dragons could shift form like she could.

Draco piped up again then, voicing his opinion on what was nearby. Istelle looked at the youngster for a moment. It was true. She wasn't getting any bad vibes either from whatever it was that was near them. In fact, she didn't really know what she felt. It was certainly something she hadn't felt before though that in itself was normally enough to put the icy draconian on guard. "Oh yes, we should certainly check whatever it is out which is why I asked you to stay behind me. It is safer for you that way. As for fire, I can't help you there. I am an ice dragon and breathe ice. If anyone can help you however, it would be my mate, Sujin. He is a fire dragon and knows pretty much all there is to kbow about breathing fire."

"Cool," said Draco, in response to being told that Istelles mate could breath fire, "Or should that be hot in this case? No cool sounds more appropiate. But anyway, lead on, I want to see what is making that sound." With that Draco spread his wings, taking a running leap to take off and rising into the air, he circled Istelle, waiting for her to take lead, she was older then him it only made sense for her, wih more experiance, to take charge of the adventure.

The sound seemed to reverberate in his mind, he knew he had heard it somewhere. To him at least, it sounded somewhat musical, like someone was singing in a strange language. At the same time, he knew he had never heard it while he had been with his human parents, nor after he left them, so where had he heard it before?

Istelle rolled her icy eyes a little at this young one's impetuosity. Taking off straight into the air like that....honestly...no finesse at all. She of course would have preferred to stay on the ground on this occasion moving silently and keeping young Draco at a safe distance untill she was satisfied that everything was all clear. That way if anything was wrong then Istelle might hopefully still have the element of surprise to her advantage and being the warrior that she was, she couldn't help but think strategically. It was in her very blood. She was a warrior born of warriors. Hell her whole race was a warrior race and not for one moment did Istelle ever in her life pretend to be otherwise.

"Hmmm.....well, if there was anything dangerous about you have certainly let them know we are here..." Istelle said with a loud sigh. With that, scimitar still in her hand for she saw no point in changing form again. After all, her Draconian form was smaller and more agile than her dragon form, and unlike her human form allowed her to fly, she spread her huge blue frost glittered wings and with one powerful flap was airborne.

"Well, come on then. Any cover I would have liked to have had is blown now so we might as well just press on...", and with that Istelle began to fly slowly towards their destination.

Draco of course was a bundle of energy at the moment, diving and circling as they traveled to their destination. In his mind, there was nothing wrong, and Istelle seemed to be a little uptight. He wondered if that just came with age. Or maybe it wasa dragon thing he didn't know about, or a draconian thing. However, he was sure that even if there was something up, that two dragons could more then handle it. After a time, Draco pulled up beside Istelle, "So, what is it like to be human? I've sometimes wondered about it, but I wanted to see how it compares to being a dragon, I mean, my parents were human so they could tell me, but they couldn't compare it with what it was like to be a dragon since they couldn't change. So what is it like?" As much as he wanted to know about dragons, Drake was still curious about the draconian, as she said she was equally human and dragon, he had questions that he might only get the answers to while Istelle was around.

Draco it seemed just couldn't stay still for a moment as he performed all sorts of little acrobatic stunts in the air as they flew. It was typical whelp behaviour of course but what with the troubles in Avalon lately and the weight of responsibility that Istelle had shouldered lately......well, young as Istelle was she was definitely feeling a little old right now.

She continued her flight, her wings flapping gracefully as she moved slowly while Draco asked his question. Istelle stopped at this. In truth she never thought about it much other then it was natural for her to become human and gave her many advantages that her other two forms couldn't. Therefore in response to his question Istelle paused for a moment in thought before answering.

"Hmmm.....its hard to say. My human form had it's good points as well as bad ones. It is physically my weakest form yet my most agile and I certainly can't fly as a human. Still, in that form I am still far stronger then the average human." Istelle paused for a moment then. She was going off mark a little and Istelle wasn't one for idle chatter when she could say something simply and concisely. However that was not the case with this question as she stopped mid air and spoke again.

" It is oddly enough the form I spend most of my time in. I think that it is because it is the least threatening to other races and due to size it makes it alot easier to get around There are only so many times you can hit your head on door posts"

"Yeah, I think I get where your coming from, it was never fun banging your head on the door frames, then my Mom would get mad when I started leaving dents." Said Draco, rubbing his head where the said incident had happened. The mountains now lay below, and a small inlet seemed to open up in the center, a small chasm, tough it was still quite large by dragon standards. He stragne sound seemed to be eminating from within. "It's strange that it can carry so far out here." said Darco, almost in a hazy tone.
