The wind blew across the mouth of the Hole of the Husin, as a single entity stood looking into its depths. Dark Storm clouds swirled and lit up the sky with lightning, its thunder causing the World beneath the travelers feet to rock, rocks tumbled down the open mouth of the Hole, which was open, ready to devour any foolish enough to step inside. This was a place of dark secrets, and horrifying memories to any who had been there when the Hole was bored into the earth, and why. Rahvin had only heard legends and stories of what lay for those who had found their way through the ever twisting labyrinth with out going mad, and animal like. This place knew not the touch of any holy power, it vomited darkness into the sky, and leaked its vile power out across the landscape.

Rahvin turned, taking in said land scape, as far as he looked the land was rotten, the ground would take no water, any rain that poured from the eternal thunderstorm above was ignored, it was like trying to give a dead man one last drink. The trees had wilted, rotting through and stank of mildew and rot, carcasses on display. Any streams in the area were unfit to drink, having spoiled at their sources long ago, and now were either dried up, or poisoned. It went with out say that no game touched the land, many had gone insane long before Rahvin had had left the world. He could not remember how long ago that was, five, maybe ten thousand years ago, forced into a realm that fed off of demons, only to rise up and conquer, turning all the planes into one single glorious demonic empire, that held no equal.

But he did not move.

This place was more vile than the Abyss, more monstrous than Hell itself. If the rumors were true, the being at the end of this excursion would be more than any mere God. An eternal evil, that did not see any as fit to be its equal. Rumors of its past deeds had startled even the Son of the Creator of Hell and the Goddess of Suffering. Even from his vantage point he could see the glittering eyes of those long since insane, twitching and blinking just at lights edge, ready for any person to make a wrong step and become devoured by the Kings, Sorcerors and Knights that had attempted the very thing he was going for and had gone mad before even reaching the Temple itself. A look to the horizon and his hazel eyes could take in the mountains, how far? A fifty miles, or sixty even?

He pulled his robe tighter around himself. He held no weapons to go in with, as the ancient scriptures spoke of. They said magic would be useless, and weapons would provoke the wrath of the Beast within. His eyes narrowed, could he take the Beast? Could he set himself as the Dominant demon in the Abyss as well as on the Material Plane, defeat the Dark One who's name was unmentionable and pray that at the end of all of it he would still have his life, and not just more power? He halted, footsteps were approaching, seemingly coming from two different directions. His black hair swayed behind him, as his pale, soot covered face looked around the decaying fields, wondering if the fight would start even before he made his way into the first trial.

The Darkness Within
Dry ground crunched under the slight weight of the cloaked figure that crossed the lifeless fields. Dead plants reached out to grab the end of the black cloak as the figure passed. Pale hands reached out as the figure stopped and bent down to inspect the ground. The fragile plant snapped easily as the figure’s hand gently grabbed it and bent it close to the root. The figure slowly raised the broken plant to its face as if studying it. With a flick of a wrist the figure discarded the dead twig and rose from its squatting position. Pale hands once again rose from the figure’s side. This time instead of reaching down, the hands reached up towards the hood. A gentle tug removed the hood revealing a face just as pale as the hands.

Light green eyes flecked with gold rose with a pale yet elegant face towards the sky. The stormy winds blew the long black hair out from under the cloak to frame the woman’s curious face. Every now and then a glimpse of her deep purple dress could be seen as the wind whipped her cloak around her thin figure. One hand played absentmindedly with a small dark crystal, its usually twinkling appearance seemed dull due to the swirling rain clouds. A crash of thunder rocked the earth under her feet as her soft glowing eyes watched the clouds momentarily.

She had heard the stories of where she was headed and what she was expecting to fight. It was said to be a demon so fierce that magic was useless and weapons only annoyed it worse. It was said to have been hidden rather then killed by the past Kings due to their fear of it. Those Kings had no right leading the land and its people if they had not enough courage to slay the demon themselves. Those Kings were cowards.

Glowing eyes turned away from the sky to look to the horizon. It was times like these she was thankful for her heighten sense of sight. Her green eyes could just barely make out the lone figure on the horizon. The figure seemed to be a bit apprehensive of what he stood in front of. This could only mean one thing; she had reached her destination.

A soft sigh escaped her lips before she once more started to move through the rotted land. The dead plants and dry ground cracked under her light footsteps as she steadily grew nearer to the figure standing by the shadowy hole. Olive eyes studied the man as she grew closer, now able to clearly see him. The woman took the time to study the man carefully, his proud yet somewhat restless demeanor, his long black hair, his lean but muscular body. Slowly the woman approached the man; light green eyes meet with his hazel ones as she nodded briefly in welcome.

Softly glowing eyes shifted to gaze into the black abyss that stood in front of her and the man. So she had made it this far, but the dangers had not even begun yet.

Silence builds an awful wreckage of a girl.
It feeds on loneliness and creates a void.
Gray shadows haunt and torment and torture,
A woman stricken and destroyed.
Confusion feeds like a savage inside her,
Leaving nothing considered worthy remains.
Destined to walk through life less ordinary,
Alone, exiled, different and disdained.

Being in places like these was so unfit for the girl. She was from town and forest not death and decay. Her skills in battle were mediocre in comparison to those who had adventured here before. Koralle could not find herself as being more out of place. But she supposed she owed the man something. He had no doubt saved her life, and prevented her from becoming some sort of cripple. The fight had been as frightening as it was brutal, the black dragon had come from out of nowhere in the mist. Subconsciously Koralle rubbed her arm where the dragon had bitten her and lifted her clear off the ground. If the case had been anything different, her first encounter with the demon would have been the last. Instead she found herself following him for no reason other than just because she felt she had to pay him back for saving her. Perhaps such honorable intentions were even lost upon him. But it didn't matter, Koralle had her own resolve.

Having moved ahead of the demon aways just to have some time alone, well not alone. Koralle had the hound with her, the hound was there because she was and that was all. Levi felt no ties to the man just because he had healed his wounds too. The hellhound was an ethereal creature to be sure, with his curved pearl horns and armored fur. Certainly a creature not of this plain and yet it followed none other than she. Koralle was human, only thus, she had no special capabilities no hidden strengths. Both her company of the hound and the demon seemed completely unsuitable for her.

She turned away from the scenery before her, pulling her jacket tight. This place, it made her feel ill, not to mention uneasy. Her hand moved to pull the edges of her coat away from her sword, leaving the hilt in easy access. Giving the hound a scratch behind the ears Koralle back tracked to where the demon stood overlooking whatever kind of place he'd brought them to. Both she and the hound stopped however, as they came back into view. There was someone else there. Were they an ally? Koralle continued on after a moment's hesitation, the hound giving an unpleased growl beneath his breath as he followed. Walking up to the demon's opposite side she peered around him to see that it was a woman who had stopped by. She waited a moment, making sure there was not some sort of confrontation going on. But then her feet shifted and she decided to be the first to speak, for once. "Hallo." Her nod was brief and merely for courtesy and a a sign of acknowledgment.

The Demon Lord stood looking down into the vast pit of darkness, he could literally feel the power being exhumed through the hole, threatening to knock him back by its shear intensity. His black cloak flew around him in the rotting wind that blew out from the north, carrying with it the scent of death and decay. Lightning flashed in the dark clouds over head though still no rain fell. The massive boring labyrinth stretch on for who knew how long, and the creatures inside where no laughing matter even if they were just the welcoming group and not the actual problem in itself.

A new scent crossed the wind however, a woman. His eyes turned to look at her, she was getting nearer, obviously coming for the Hole of Husin, and whatever lay hidden within. He knew that over the years many had tried to enter, only to be driven to insanity by the madness and evil that lurked within. It was a rage that few knew of, and now these kings and mages, warlords and warlocks were held inside, driven to the edge of insanity by the very power they had attempted to seek for their own uses. The demon within could not be summoned to this world, his power defying those of the average being. What exactly he was no one knew.

His ears twitched at the sound of a growl, and as he nodded toward the elven woman who had approached, his eyes darted to the human quickly arriving. So, Koralle had decided to show up. Perhaps she would take him up on his offer of teaching her what he knew, truth was, after this event, there was no way she could go back to being a mere Knight's daughter, who got attacked by dragons and ran from trouble, to a warrior in her own right, a being who would spread fear through those who would once have done her harm.

"Greetings, Lady Koralle, it is good to see you again." His head turned back to the elven woman. "I am Lord Rahvin Von Daemondread, Emperor and Master of the Abyssal Planes, and who might you be?" His eyes narrowed, enemies had spies everywhere, and this could be no different. He held no weapons and would be believed to be an easy target for anyone to take out, if only that were true...

Tremble Avalon...for Sir Annoying is here...
A lone figure trudged through the wasted landscape, braced against the wind as he stumbled over rocks, his back bent below the darkening sky. He clutched a threadbare gray cloak tighter about him, struggling to keep himself wrapped up against the chill, his free hand outstretched to steady himself as he navigated the treacherous rock-ridden ground. His voice could be heard faintly between the deafening peals of distant thunder, a broken song carried on the howling wind:

“And she said that I might win her
When the snows have grow’n thinner
And the sweet scents fill the air
Of white flowers in her hair…

I walked more’n many miles
Sailed in and out of years
To lay down in the arms of she
Who stole away my tears

And I brought her all the treasure
That by counting could be measured
And the only ones I wouldn’ share
Were her eyes and golden hair…”

The lanky man trailed off amidst his song, the gentle clinking of the weapons and tin cookware strapped to his back taking the place of his wavering melody. He glanced around nervously, his gray eyes flicking back and forth between every shifting shadow and withered tree. Returning his gaze to the ground in front of him, he started singing again, forgot the verse, and skipped to the next one as he surveyed the land before him; a barren plain, littered only with jagged boulders and dead brush stretched as far as the eye could see, the dark shapes of the Cloudsweep Peaks looming to the west, deceptive marshes, unseen to the east.

Here, the air was filled with an infectious undertone of dread, one that only seemed to grow as Elias drew closer to his destination. Every forward footfall was a battle in itself, the alleged nightmares to come already haunting his thoughts and steps. Still, Elias couldn’t shake the feeling that even his mind’s darkest conjurings were nothing compared to the real horrors that surely awaited him. He would have turned back long ago had he not heard the rumors of the priceless treasures contained within the Hellhole, as well as tales of the creatures that guarded them. Glory and gold…the only thing that kept him going, the only force that stayed him from stopping in his tracks and running to safety, back the way he had come. Besides, if he didn’t take the loot, someone else surely would, and then he’d never hear the end of it.

Suddenly, the monotonous landscape was broken by three figures on the horizon. Elias froze, ducking behind the nearest boulder to get a closer look. He peered through the dim haze, torn between wanting to run to them for fear of the unseen danger following him, and the urge to run from them- They might very well be dangerous themselves. He crept from rock to rock, staying hidden as he approached the company, satisfied the strangers were at least seemingly mortal, and of this earth. His rising anxiety heightened as he realized they were standing beside what could the Hole of Husin itself, obviously intent on descending into its depths, with no plan to leave anytime soon. See?? He knew he was certainly not the only one brave enough to seek the riches in the caverns.

He bit his lip, amassing the courage to go out and introduce himself- If he couldn’t beat them, he’d have to join them…Or he could join them first, and maybe double-cross them later, whatever worked. He knew he had no choice but to press on…He’d made it this far- he could at least see what was inside before deciding to go on. He stood up, striding towards the strangers as upright as possible, clearing his throat as he entered within earshot of them.

“H-Hello!” he called out weakly, his hoarse voice echoing through the empty air. “This is it then? The Hole of Husin…I presume?” He watched them with uncertainty, poised to run or fight at the first sign of trouble. The man nearest the gaping cavern was an imposing presence indeed, a tall robed figure with jet black hair and ashen skin; Elias swallowed, overcome by the compulsion to look anywhere but at the man’s face.

“Evening sir…or is it…afternoon? Can’t be too sure with this all this dodgy weather,” he said, laughing slightly. He soon forgot about the strange man altogether when he noticed the two women standing beside him. He didn’t even try to hide the smile that spread across his face as he looked the black haired, blue eyed girl and the stately elven maiden up and down.

“Such lovely ladies,” he began, his tone significantly more cheerful, “Name’s Elias Devlin- I’m pleased to meet your acquaintance.” He gave a little bow and a crooked grin he only hoped might charm them, shooting a suspicious glance back at the man before returning his attention to the young women before him.

“Are we all going then? Into that…dark…cavern there?” he asked, taking up a gallant stance and resting his hand on the hilt of his sword.

She crouched next to the hound as he growled at the thunder. The hellhound did not like the rain, he did not like large bodies of water and he could not swim. He wasn't scared no of course not. But he did have a distaste for the element in general. Then again, he had a distaste for this place in general, it smelled of death and blood, danger and creatures the likes of which he had never seen before. "Koralle. Just Koralle." She wasn't used to formalities, they were unsuitable to her, she was just a commoner at heart, no great warrior or grand traveler was she. Being spoken to as if of higher status made her feel even more out of sorts, and being in a place like this too. Well, she didn't feel like she belonged her, of course she never would. She glanced up towards the woman as it seemed greeting were taking place. "Koralle. The hound's Levi. Can't call him friendly but he's harmless enough as long as he's without provocation." Koralle could not help but glance off towards the caverns at this. She felt as if she had to give some explanation though, as most feared the hound simply for what he was.

Koralle calmed the hound by feeding him a scrap of food taken from a coat pocket. He lay down in the dirt and gnawed of that for awhile. It was not until the hound took notice of another presence that he stood up again, a snarl on his maw and a growl beneath his breath. Koralle stood too, but upon seeing it was only another traveler heading this way she gave the hound a command to take a seat. It was okay, the only things to fear in this pale were down there in that hole. Koralle brushed the dirt off her hands and shoved them into her pockets at the man's approach. She ignored his flirtation or compliment, whichever it was she didn't care to reflect upon. "Against all good judgment no doubt." Koralle wasn't so sure they should be going down there. But, well, t wasn't as if she had anything else in this life going for her. All this life of wandering around in circles with accomplishing nothing put her in a more depressed state than anything. A wasted life ... by her reckoning one was better off dead.

The Darkness Within
A low growl in the wind caught Tári’s attention; she turned her head to study the approaching woman and hound. The hound seemed unhappy to be either around people or near the Hole of Husin. Tári had never much cared for dogs, it wasn’t that she was scared of them; she simply didn’t like them. She gave a brief nod to the woman that the man had called Koralle then turned back to the darkness in the ground. Green eyes narrowed at the man’s introduction; sociability wasn’t one of Tári’s strongest suits. She preferred to enter the hell hole without knowing the names of her companions. After hearing their names she felt a connection to them and she would feel a responsibility to protect them, unlike if she didn’t know their names, then wouldn’t matter what happened to them.

“Lord Rahvin Von Daemondread, Emperor and Master of the Abyssal Planes.” His title seemed much more official then need be. She had never seen the use of titles all it did was make some feel as if they were better then others and give them more power over the ones with weaker titles.

“Tári Linwëlin, of the Melairkyn clan of Drow-elves.”

The urge to smile swept through Tári, not to be friendly, but because the Drow-elf part confused many. Her looks screamed Moon-elf, but she had been raised with the Melairkyn clan that her mother belonged to. Pale eyes rested on Rahvin’s face for a short time until the ruff cry of greeting rolled over the wind into Tári’s sensitive ears. Her unreadable face turned towards the stranger that approached the small group. Narrowed eyes studied the man in front of them. The tin cookware on his back clanged together in the wind creating an annoying wind chime. Tári watched silently as the man attempted small talk with Rahvin, his slight laugh was oddly out of place among the solemn demeanor of Tári and the other two.

It was when the man shifted his attention to Tári and Koralle with a demeaning look on his face that the urge to push his into the hole and force him to go ahead of them crossed her mind. A small smile tugged at the corner of Tári’s lips at the idea as she diverted her eyes back to the hole in front of them. Tári agreed greatly with Koralle, but she couldn’t help but want to go down into the darkness. She had been in this situation before, a dark hole in front of her and its mystery pulling her in; her good judgment being ignored by curiosity.

Elias sighed wearily, leaning more of his weight onto the foot he had propped up on a boulder, looking uncomfortably between the three that hadn't bothered to introduce themselves to him. He waited for someone to say or do something decisive, wondering what the relationship of the group was exactly. Strange that they should all arrive here at the same time- must be a traveling party. He already felt out of place here, but he'd no intention of turning back, at least not because of some unfriendly strangers. He was a little put off by the womens' negative reactions and the man's intimidating silence, but he was used to being ignored- He was not about to give up so easily.

He drummed his fingers absently on the hilt of his sword, softly humming snippets of his tune from before while he surveyed the landscape for the hundredth time, as if intensely interested in the scenery.

As much as he hated this place, he knew he had no choice but to remain here. From birth, society had taught him he would never amount to anything, could never hope for anything more than mere survival, just scraping by off the scraps from the streets. He’d never had anything to call his own, save the hands that were dirtied and calloused from countless hours of hard labor fit for beasts, his skin chapped and cracked from the ceaseless cold. For six whole years, he had been deprived of even what he taken for granted, blind to the fact that it was the greatest wealth he had owned until it was gone- his freedom. He’d escaped the prison by his own inner strength, his prevailing intellect, and that was what would guide him through this.

Passerby had seen him in rags, looked at him like these people did now as if he was unfit even to be spat upon. Those who were unable to look past the filth surrounding him would see him in riches soon, boasting the fabled trove of the Hole…They’d welcome him as a hero, a conqueror of the greatest fears of men, finally fit to receive the respect he so rightfully deserved. Just like before, he’d plunge into the cruel, dark unknown, but this time he’d emerge with more than just his life; it was as if some divine power had guided him here, had given him a second chance to win back everything that was taken from him, to finally get everything he’d ever desired, and he would not pass it up.

With people popping up all over the place Koralle was beginning to wonder how infamous the place really was. Did random adventurers always go to places like these seeking their fortunes? She was just here for payback, someone saving her life was not something she took lightly. Even if the man was a demon who'd done so. Koralle was not much for big crowds, and she was getting rather tired of having to introduce herself over and over. She didn't want to seem rude or anything, but this place just put her out of sorts altogether. Her feet shifted uncomfortably as the stood around near the gaping maw of Husin. They did seem to be a rather motley crew if anything else. Certainly not the stereotypical band and adventurers and treasure seekers. The hound gave a sigh of what could only be called annoyance before laying in the dirt again, eyes cautiously looking the various people up and down.

Koralle glanced to the woman who introduced herself as partially a drow elf. Well, she didn't know the difference, to her elves were elves no matter what the subcategory. If it had been under any other circumstance she would have given a 'nice to meet you' for manner's sake. However the current living conditions rendered all that as rather stupid additions to conversation. Pulling her jacket tighter around her, Koralle then at the risk of sounding repetitive she gave her own name again. "It's Koralle. Again." She sighed, crossing her arms as she looked back to Rahvin for a sign. "I guess its up to you to lead the way since this thing was your idea and you seem familiar with the place?"

She would have just followed the demon anyways, since she at least knew him more than the other two. Besides the elf didn't seem to be very social whether out of distrust or just general dislike. And that other guy looked rather shady by her opinion. Koralle didn't trust people at first meeting anyways, and though he was a demon at least Rahvin had proved that he was of no danger to her. Koralle doubted he would have saved his life and put his own in danger otherwise. Not that Koralle fully trusted him either, since she barely knew him. But a little familiarity was better than none.

The Demonic Emperor looked at the people who had gathered, a lecherous man, a drow elf, and the girl and her dog. How he hoped the group wouldn't get much larger than this. He knew the way was dangerous, monsters beyond imagination lurked within the budding darkness of the Hole, and he knew well the horrors that could have been withheld from the Light. The lecher had tried at a joke, he knew it, but his hazel eyes remained impassive, cold and distant, as if they never knew happiness in their existence. Rahvin was a conquerer, not a clown to amuse others, his sole purpose in life was to lay claim to thing he wanted, and so be it.

His black cloak ruffled as he moved out of sight, giving off the air of not wanting to be followed just yet. His black hair shimmering slightly in the lightning scarred air, as he vanished into the darkness of the Hole. His eyes glared at the darkness he stepped into, and did not hesitate to reach out into the void of light, and snatched the creature that was once a Half-elf half-human from the cavern's trenches. He could feel them, as if he was tied to their dark and twisted souls. He dragged the creature by the skin on the back of its neck, he hadn't been certain if the shirt it wore would hold, and now he was wondering about if its skin could.

As bad as Zombies, but twice as fast, these creatures were people like them, having wandered into the Hole of Husin looking for riches and treasure, and this had been their reward. The creature, male by the smell and lack of breasts, thrashed with its claw like nails, as he dragged it back to the surface, its scream echoed into the wasteland around them as it was brought into the little bit of light that shined out here, its eyes clamping shut against the horrifying sight of what it had become in the years since he had entered the Hole.

"This is the fate of nearly all who enter this place. This is the reward for failure." He tossed the creature into the center of the small group, its thin body lashing out like a feline in a cage, trying to get them to step back and open its way up to the Hole once again. "These are former men, women, children, Kings and Paupers, Magi and Knights, none of them were successful. This is not a trip to undertake lightly." He looked down on the starved, crazy individual, its Elven Immorality now a curse of its Madness. Where its clothes hung from its body, bones tore through flesh at its every movement, the ribs shaking with each beat of its heart. "Man or Elf, both as the case is here, the Hole will swallow you up and spit you out." He turned to take in Koralle and the Hound. "We will spend the night out here, and start fresh in the morning, when we are rested and have eaten. You other's I suggest run along, or stay and enter with us. Entering now would certainly escalate in your madness or death."

Green eyes glanced at the hound as it let out a sigh before lying down in the dirt near the hole. Part of Tári wanted to leave then and there, not because of what awaited her in the darkness, but because of her dislike for dogs. She would rather be as far away from one as possible then to go into a pitch black hole with one, but she wasn’t about to give up the untold wealth and glory that possibly awaited her just because a dog was in the company. Tári let out an annoyed sigh as Koralle introduced herself again to the man. ‘Formalities, what a waste of breath,’ she thought to herself as she opened her mouth to tell the man her name, her eye flickering to his face then back to the darkness.

“Tári”

Her voice was flat and unwelcoming, but not much more could be expected from her. She quickly fell silent as Koralle addressed Rahvin. Tári had not per say followed anyone here, she had heard the stories of this place her whole life, but recently she had heard rumors that a few people were going to bear the elements and attempt to regain the infamous treasure that lay in the depths of the darkness. Not being one to pass up an opportunity she headed for the Hole of Husin and low and behold she had stumbled across Rahvin, who according to Koralle had set this whole thing up.

Tári wasn’t stupid; she knew it would lead to her death to enter the hole by herself. Therefore she had every intention of going with Rahvin and Koralle, and if Elias went with them, so be it. After all, one never knows when a traveling kitchen might come in handy.

Curious eyes watched as Rahvin stepped into the darkness, obviously not wanting to be followed just yet. Tári waited patiently for him to reemerge, but it wasn’t long before he surfaced from the darkness, an odd creature being towed in his wake. She watched Rahvin throw the creature into the small circle the travelers made. Its skin thin and gray, eyes clamped shut against the pale light the lightening gave off. It thrashed blindly at its capturers, trying to get them to step back and let it run back to the darkness. Tári watched the creature impassively for a few moments before raising her eyes to meet Rahvin’s.

“I will stay if you let me. I have no fear of what the darkness holds for me.”

“Ah,” Elias said in acknowledgment as the girl with the pet hound introduced herself as Koralle, the elf as Tári. He logged their names in his memory, trusting he’d soon find out how the man here should be addressed, not that he was too eager to know more about him. He already suspected the man didn’t think too fondly of him, which was troubling, considering he seemed to be the leader of this operation, an authority figure that could easily exclude an outsider like Elias. No matter, he knew how best to appease them and prove himself valuable; he’d show himself as capable in their eyes…though, not too capable; it was best he remain a follower in the group, neither a dissenter nor someone that could be held responsible for any mishaps that might bring mutiny and discord upon him- He’d get in and get out, nothing more, nothing less.

He watched in fascination as the cloaked man strode up to the Hole itself, reaching into the endless pool of shadow, the contents of which were hidden from Elias’ vantage point. He gasped as the man pulled a haggard figure from the cavern’s depths, a writhing creature that had long since lost all semblance of anything close to human. The thing gave a bloodcurdling wail as it was dragged into the light, the sounds of a tortured animal spewing from its maw in place of a voice. It lashed out at them with its sharp, curling nails, its skeletal arms reaching desperately for the hole from whence it had come.

Elias barely heard the man’s warning, transfixed on the horrifying creature that was now etching deep gashes in the earth with its claws as it struggled to escape, contorted as it pulled against the man’s grip with all its might, a starved dog on a chain striving for a scrap of meat that lay just out of its reach. He didn’t even dare to imagine himself in place of the wretched thing, although it was now painfully clear he very might well become like that, his body withered, his eyes bulging, less than a beast, living only for the darkness.

He finally pulled his gaze away, realizing he’d unconsciously backed up to stand a few feet behind Tári. He cleared his throat, a heated blush overtaking his pallid face as he gave her a quick smile, relaxing into a stance that was no longer one of utter terror and disgust. He crossed his arms over his chest, puffing it out as he waited for a word from the others, trying his best to ignore the screams and thrashing coming from the ground before them. He glanced furtively at the other travelers, studying them for their reactions-
The man had retained his stern countenance and Tári was unphased.

“I have no fear of the Hole either,” he piped up, his tone betraying him. He cleared his throat again, speaking again with true conviction. “I’m well aware of the danger ahead, but I intend to go on.” If failure was not an option, then he would not fail.

“Good idea,” he exclaimed loudly in response to the man’s last statement, chuckling nervously as he shied away from the Hole, brushing the chills from his neck. “No need going in there just yet. Besides, it’ll be nice to have time to get to know each other a little better don’t you think?” he asked to no one in particular, giving the elf maiden a wink as he passed her. He walked away without another word, humming to himself as he set off to gather firewood.

Rahvin's eye felt like twitching as he listened to the others speak of how they would continue on, and stay the night with him and Koralle. This was highly unsatisfactory to him, especially that little guy. The one who seemed terrified by just one of the creatures. If he died in side the Hole, or the world beyond, he wouldn't bat an eye. In fact, he was sort of hoping he could cause it in some way if not out right kill the little bastard himself. His hazel eyes narrowed as his hair blew in the stagnant wind of the Hole.

He lifted the creature by the skin of its neck again, placing a hand just under its jaw, careful not to be bitten, and proceeded to twist and pull, snapping its neck and ripping its head from its shoulders. The body fell with a thud, as Rahvin tossed the head at the man who was walking away. " Here, have a present." As the head moved through the air, blood flew from its neck and mouth in all directions, splattering the dead ground, which quickly soaked it up for any taste of nourishment.

Rahvin's cloak fluttered around him as he made his way away from the Hole of Husin, not far enough to let it out of his sight, but still a fair distance so that the creatures didn't feel frisky when night fell. He held no weapon on him, but he was still certain he could take care of himself, and with the Hound around he was certain to get any warning should anything decide to move in their direction.

He walked to a nearby dead tree, and began breaking off the limbs, tossing them into a pile at where he had decided camp would be, before grabbing the tree's trunk and kicking the base. The rotted dried out wood gave way easily as the trunk gave way, allowing him to twist it and break it off from the roots. He ignored the maggots that fell to the ground and carried the twisted gnarled tree back to the spot and tossed it down. He proceeded to do this four times, ripping branches and breaking trees, until he had a good stack of fire wood and four 'benches' for the people to sit on.

He looked around at the assembled group, his hazel eyes searching for something. Unable to locate what he was looking for he sighed, "Does anyone here know any fire spells or anything? We need a fire, I'm certain this land gets cold at night, and the light will help ward off the Hole's prisoners from trying to eat us as we sleep." His speech was not meant to bolster confidence, but once again scare off the two stragglers to make sure that he and the girl he had chosen as a student would get most of the treasures that the quest would put forward to them.

More than carbon and chemicals.
The hound was not a happy beast, there were people here who could prove a danger to Koralle and down in that hole were monsters far more dangerous. Oh how the hound sometimes wished he could speak. He would tell Koralle to stay away from these people and to stay away from the journey they were preparing for. Levi would say whatever it took and do even more if it meant keeping the girl from danger. The hound was much more than just some dumb beast, sometimes Koralle wondered if the hound understood things far beyond the capacity of most, whether they be human or otherwise. Of course she had a certain fondness for the hound, he was much more than a pet or even a guard dog. The hound was friend and companion, the only living link to the family she once had and he had saved her lie so many times when any other dog would have turned tail and ran. There was just something about the hellhound, that set him apart from other animals. Sometimes Koralle would catch herself referring to him as if he were another person.

Koralle watched on as the demon stepped forth into the dark recesses of the cave. She didn't know what he was doing but he seemed to have some sort of plan in mind. And Koralle was beginning to think that perhaps she shouldn't be here after all. When the demon dragged a screaming, snarling, mess of what had once been a man out of the darkness and into the lightning strewn outside, these were thoughts which grew all the stronger. The hound was quick to gain his feet as the former man was tossed into the middle of the group. Koralle grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and took a step back with him. She stared at the creature in a mixture of both fear and pity, and could not comprehend why such things could happen to people. When the two strangers spoke up about their feeling on the trip or just the writhing creature at her feet Koralle only shook her head. Scared? Well they might all have been adventurers and warriors but she was neither. "Well I am." She wasn't afraid to admit it, and she didn't think she should be. Exercising a little extra caution was for the best and she knew it. They all could think what they wanted of her, she didn't care.

Her hand fell to her sword and she shifted her stance as the creature rolled and cried out in the dirt still. Human once ... no longer... would she really turn out like that too if she got lost in that place? Koralle shivered to think about it. It turned to a wince as she watched the demon lift up the poor creature and snap its head from its neck. Shaking the image from her mind Koralle turned and walked away, the hound following at her heels. Maybe it was a blessing for the now dead man, for him to be free of the torment he one suffered. Or maybe the demon was just a heartless bastard and Koralle should leave here as soon as possible. She didn't know, she didn't know what she really wanted to do. Koralle had never said she would be the demon's student, not of anything, and she could always just change her mind when they left in the, morning was it? For now Koralle would just stay here because the weather made it too dangerous to go out into the night alone.

Standing with her hands shoved deep in the pocket of her jacket and her gaze drawn towards the hole Koralle only looked away as the hound sat next to her. She looked up just in time to see Rahvin throw the creature's bleeding head at the other man. Koralle sighed, before muttering foreign words to the hound. "Wird, eine lange Reise sein." She could not help but wonder if such a long journey would be worth it. Or if the dangers ahead would be any less stressful than the incapability of its participants. Crossing her arms Koralle watched the goings on with little interest. There wasn't anything else she could do, and you only needed so many people to gather firewood. She wasn't even good for starting a fire, even if she had such an ability she would be too scared to use it. Pulling her jacket closer at a peal of thunder overhead Koralle took it upon herself to take a seat on a fallen tree.

The Darkness Within
Tári crossed her arms as she stared at Elias with narrowed eyes. She was not amused by his lack of courage; even the girl who admitted she was nervous did not try and hide behind someone. Tári found it weak, if scared or nervous, one should admit so instead of blatantly lie while hiding behind someone. A troubling smile crossed Tári’s face when he winked at her, her mind drifting off to the joy it would give her to simply put the man out of her misery right here and now; after all it might be better for him if she killed him now since he was so scared of the creature they all had a chance of turning into. An annoyed sigh crossed her lips as she realized the other two might turn on her it she simply killed the man now.

Amused eyes watched Rahvin rip off the creature’s head and toss it at Elias. The blood spilling from the severed head as it flew through the air splashed a few drops of the dark red liquid on Tári’s deep purple dress. She wrinkled her nose in slight disgust before turning back to the hole. The darkness called to her, never had she felt more at home then she did while surrounded by darkness. The monsters that lived in the hidden abyss were legendary and anyone with good sense would never even think of stepping one foot into the black chasm, but Tári never claimed to have good sense. She followed her greed for power, fame and riches. She didn’t care what she had to sacrifice to get her glory.

It was then, while staring off into the black abyss that Tári took a startled step back. It wasn’t so much that she was scared, but the blood red eyes that had flashed at her in the darkness seemed to have penetrated her very soul, reading her mind, studying everything about her in that single second before they disappeared back into the darkness. A soft humming began to emit from her pocket and Tári quickly stuffed her hand into the folds of her dress to calm the annoyed stone. It was the very same stone she had found in the cavern under the Antioch ruins just weeks ago. She had had time to study it and test it, but it seemed to only show it powers when it choose to. It didn’t protect her and it didn’t intensify her powers. Every now and then it would help show her which way to go or tell her if there was danger or if Tári got angry, but now always; it always worked when it wanted to work and there was no way to shut it on or off.

Slightly nervous eyes glanced at the sky, what little light there was was fading and the already cool air was beginning to have an icy feel to it. Tári pulled her cloak around her more firmly with one hand, the other hand was still holding the small black stone that hummed faintly against her skin. Giving the dark abyss one more glance she made her way over to the fire pit Rahvin had made. Being of no use when it came to fire magic Tári sat down on the fallen tree Rahvin had provide across from Koralle.

Silence builds an awful wreckage of a girl.
It feeds on loneliness and creates a void.
Gray shadows haunt and torment and torture,
A woman stricken and destroyed.
Confusion feeds like a savage inside her,
Leaving nothing considered worthy remains.
Destined to walk through life less ordinary,
Alone, exiled, different and disdained.
