A horrid gurgle was all that escaped the orc's open mouth as the massive sword was rammed down into its chest cavity. The little beastie's miscolored blood dripped down between the cracks in the rock and began to form what looked like little rivers spreading across the landscape. With a vicious tug the sword was pulled from the orc's body and slung into the air, blood flicking off its edge before the heavy weapon came to rest on the warrior's large shoulder. Several other bodies littered the mountain side as well. Their bodies were practically torn to pieces. The hunk of metal lacked cutting power. It wasn't designed to be able to slash effectively. It was made to fold opponents under its weight and power. With a demon's muscle behind it, it had enough force to tear into creatures. Such a pain would come from actually being 'cut' by such a weapon that most would hardly be up to being struck a second time if they even survived the initial attack.

Codrus huffed, annoyed with the sudden ambush...and at the same time it announced his boredom. Falling a few orcs was no difficult task. A man that had once been a god found no challenge in that small a party. Even without his immense power anymore, he could still find more...many more. That was his reason for being here. To fight...to take his mind off of things. All he wanted was some sort of challenge...hell...the thought of dieing was even a tad comforting. It almost seemed like he didn't feel up to living this long life of his anymore. There were no more burdens on his conscious. No longer was he a god and had to take care of his responsibilites and no longer was he a vampire, needing the blood of others to sustain him. Once more he was the same man that had traveled from the far north in pursuit of something more grand that years of battle with weak foes.

The chilling wind bit through the warrior, tearing his attention from the bodies that surrounded him and back to the harsh landscape that he stood upon. The Yseulte was a difficult mountain range to tranverse. He had kept relatively close to the bottom. Large, jagged rocks littered the land and made traveling treachorous. With the icy wind, it was a difficult to make good time. With his cloak wrapped tight around his body, hood pulled up and a scarf covering the lower half of his face, he continued on. Using Eversor as a walking stick of sorts, Codrus moved forward. "Tck," he spat as he tried to find some sort of firm footing. The ground was loose and he was at a bit of an incline. Not ten yards ahead was a level piece of earth jutting out from the mountain side. There wasn't much below him however, just more rocks. A fall down would of been a tad painful slide until the ground flattened out.

Slowly he walked towards his safe haven. Being his size, it was difficult for him to move with much grace. His foot steps were heavy, his boots making walking with ease difficult. Several times he had to ram Eversor into the rock to catch himself. It was five yards away now. "Shoulda' picked a nicer spot to croak," he groaned as he drew close. Codrus placed a foot forward, trying to close the remaining gap with one step. However, he'd have no such luck as the loose rock and dirt beneath his other foot gave way. Suddenly he found he had no footing and he was falling. The sword handle had slipped from his grasp and as he hit the rock he began to slide. "Shit," he shouted, bringing his left arm across his body. The gauntlet covering that hand brooke away as his hand shifted. The flesh turned black and rock like. His nails became like stone and he jammed them into the rock. Codrus stopped abruptly, his hand holding the ground firm. "I hate this place..."

The wind blew fiercely against a shadowy figures back. The cloak, dark burgundy, bundled tightly around the small body, as it made its way up the side. As the figure made its way along the unpacked earth, its brown leather boot slipped deep inside a pile of rocks, only to reappear a second later. It was difficult finding footing on this mountainous terrain. The wind picked up and changed directions, and suddenly the foul smell of orc blood reached the shadowy figures vampire nose. It stung and almost made the seasoned vampire gag...almost. The hood slipped back to reveal a pale young woman with jet black hair and electric blue eyes. Aria hated the smell of orcs, foul beasts, just as bad as giants. Giants...that brought back memories...old memories. She sighed and lifted her hood back up and tightened her arms around her body. Even with all her layers of extra clothing the wind bit her to the bone. Even her vampire blood couldn't block out the chill she felt here.

Shivering she continued up the mountain, she had been told that there was a cave...somewhere that she could stay at during the night so she didn't freeze. Not like she'd die, she had already fed, the blood would keep her alive, but being keep in a frozen state, unable to speak or see or hear, but able to think is far too much of a punishment to fathom. She sniffed the air now that her nostrils were accustomed to the stench of orc, and smelled a scent that she at first thought she dreamnt. All that remenicing had led to the hallucination of smelling Codrus...the warrior whom she had fought with when they attacked a cave full of giants. She felt her whole body tremble with excitement...could he be alive? Someone she once had known! She bounded forward, and then suddenly stopped. She was actng silly, she didn't need this kind of thought...where her heart would break when she learned her had imagined his scent and he was no where. She lowered her head and slowly trudged through the rocks, lost in sad thoughts when a familiar voice cursed intot he wind and a smile lit her cold face.

Codrus was alive.

She rushed foward in time to see him loose his footing and start to tumble, she wasn't fast enough to get him, nor did she have the footing to help him. But she watched with wide eyes as his skin became rock-like in color and he stopped his fall by locking his fingers into the ground. She heard his familiar gruff voice huff out "I hate this place." She smirked wide and slowly made her way to him, her hood behind her, resting on her back, her face nearly freezing-more pale than ever- her hair flying behind her as she moved towards him with a smile.

"Ah,but don't we all Codrus....don't we all."

The warrior had many, many memories. So many that he couldn't keep track of them all. There were those that had been forgotten, and others that had been etched into his mind to be remembered forever. Always he kept the thoughts of those he deemed important alive. That way, even with the years, he could at least hold onto them. Having lost many friends over the course of time, Codrus, despite the brute he was, still felt a bit of sorrow. It was not something he acknowledged, but it was there. In a way he had become a tad lonely. There were people waiting for him somewhere though, he knew that much. So, one way or another, he'd continue on, just for their sakes. Honeslty, he felt his life had gone on far too long, from a warrior's stand point. The greatest death was that on the battlefield...to be slain by another's blade. That was how he invisioned every great fighter's end should be. Codrus, though, just never...died.

His teeth gritted as his fingers dug into the dirt. Codrus laid there for a moment, annoyed to no end. With his trouble he didn't take to noticing anyone else's presence. Though, even if he was paying attention, he was never very good at it. With his sense a tad dulled again, he couldn't really pay attention to smell either. Codrus was just a man ready to be ambushed...but that did make things a lot more exciting from his point of view. It wasn't until he heard her voice had he known someone was there.

"Eh?"

Confused, he looked over his arm at the cloaked lass. For a moment he was silent, blinking at her before it clicked. "Ah, Aria!" A grin spread across his face upon remembering her from so long ago. Her face was a difficult one to forget...for he didn't forget pretty faces easily. Though...with his little situation, he felt a tad embarassed. Here he was, having to cling to the mountain side just so he didn't go tumbling down a ways. "So...nice lil' place here, eh?...While yer standing ther'....Wanna help me up?!" Codrus wasn't so sure he could get up on his own without the rock just giving way once more. This place was hazardous to someone like him.

Aria smirk grew until her almost frozen face was in pain. She sauntered over till his arm was only a few feet from her legs and looked down at him with humor in her eyes. She licked her lips of the dryness from the wind and laughed lightly as she held out her hand. Both her feet were on solid ground and if she fell, she'd probably survive. Her cloak flew back as another gust of artic air ripped through her and she shivered violently, her clothes arms sprouting goosebumps instantly. She reached to his wrist, hard as stone and stared before pulling with all her strength. She knew he could regain his footing soon, but she was too cold to sit around and small talk in the icy cold. She might be of the undead but she was damn tired of being tossed about in the cold like and iceburg. She made a grunting noise that sounded more like a kitten purring in comparison to some she'd heard from the ohf clinging to the mountain side. She lifted his weight with her inhuman strength and lifted him practically on her back. She changed her mind and let him stand in front of her, letting him gain his own sense of balance, before slamming into his warm chest and wrapping her cold arms around him.

"Oh how I missed you my friend....

She felt icy tears starting in her eyes and fought them back with a smile, and looked up at him, seeing now that he no longer was the creature he had been. She kept her mouth shut and pointed to the cave. Then smiled wickedly before grabbing him firmly and throwing him onto her back. She took off, finding her footing quickly and without too much problem. She landed with an unladylike thud and collapsed onto the ground inside the doorway of the cave. The cold was in her lungs now, deep, and she shivered now without care. She looked up at his face and grinned, a little weary now.

"Forgive me, I don't like being cold."

She coughed a few time and lay her head back onto the stones, it was hard to catch her breathe...she needed a fire...or something.

Codrus looked sideways, feeling a tad idiotic at the time. For such a warrior, he sure was helpless when it came to things of delicacy. No matter, as Aria had happened upon the brute and was going to help. It had been some time since he had seen her last and she didn't seem any bit different. He couldn't say the same for himself. Several changes he had been through, all to end up like his old self from so long ago. At least he still had some power coursing through his veins. Looking back at her, he couldn't help but grin. Despite her size, she was strong. Easily she helped him to his feet. The icy wind was actually starting to bite at his flesh. Usually such cold would hardly be a burden for the warrior, given where he had come from. But being away from home for so long weakened his tolerance it appeared.

Not as soon as he had his feet set as he gotten a tight hug. "Aiyaaaa," he grumlbed, nearly falling once more. Codrus looked down at her and returned her hug. "I missed you too." Seeing old friends always made him feel good. At least some had the same gift of life and were able to survive the unforgiving world. It was always just a matter of time before he'd run into them again. It was just a tad surprising he found her out here...or she found him. If it was left up to him, Codrus wouldn't of been able to track anyone down. He'd just be left wandering about, leaning on fate to do the work.

Aria pointed to a cave, one that had avoided his sight, but it wasn't too far. Feeling her lift him up caught him by surprise...being carried was....unusual. They reached the cave's safety from the wind quickly however. "Don't like the cold, eh?...Ya should be used to the cold by now," he said with a grin. Codrus sat down next to Aria, not taking notice at how he had forgotten his sword outside. No matter...he could always get it later. It was jammed into the rock and would stay there till he attended to it. "If yer a cold, c'mere." Codrus removed his breatplate, dropping the hunk of metal to the side. He held up his arm, cloak opened up for her to rest against him. At least he was warm once more. That was something he found comforting, feeling that his body didn't seem so lifeless anymore.

"What have ya been up to all this time, hm?"

She smirked lightly and tucked herself into his arms. He was alive again, which in a way benefited her. His heart still beat strong, like a warrior's should. She leaned her head onto his shoulder and felt the body heat flow to her. Many things had happened since their last meeting. The last time she saw him, if memory served her correctly, she had made him into one of the damned. Now he was human...not like she minded, she was happy he was alive again. It was a better life. She sighed and used his cloak as a blanket before speaking again. She leaned heavily into his body and tried keeping her voice steady.

" After my daughter disappeared, Conar and I had twins, Cormac and Artan. Cormac was a vampire like me, but Artan became a paladin. Artan died of old age, but Cormac....he should have lived as long as me, but he fell in love with a human girl who aged like any other human and died. Cormac was so...distraught he walked into sunlight. Conar died soon after.

She stopped talking and closed her eyes, burying her face into his shoulder. The tears never seemed to stop, it cut deep how close she'd come emotionally, even when she knew she shouldn't. All the one's she knew, her own children were dead, as was her husband. She sniffled and opened her eyes again.

"I moved to an island far away from Avalon and just...remained there till a year ago. I missed Avalon, I wanted to see if I could find my old friends...perhaps I hoped I'd find myself again." "But how is it that you are here. I feel that you are human....how, when, and how are you able to be become part rock?"

Codrus chuckled, feeling her huddle up against him. Her flesh was cold to the touch. With such a low body temperature, freezing would be rather easy out here. It would of probably been a tad worse if he was still one of the undead. He found life once more and it pleased him to be that way once again. The feeling of her cold skin aaginst his was another reminder of things he missed. Just the sensation of warmth again...that made him grin. Such a simple thing was satisfactory enough. Outside the wind started to blow harder. It was such a harsh land out there. It wasn't somewhere people could easily survive. The threat of orcs still lingered as well. There was sure to be many more out there...somewhere. With the day growing old, the warrior prepared to be more cautious of the night and what trouble it could bring.

For the time, though, he paid heed to Aria and her troubles. Seems she understood all too well what it meant to live so long. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said softly, trying to comfort her. Codrus didn't know what else to do. Trying to console another on how they were feeling...not something he was exactly keen at. All he could do was lend her a shoulder to cry on and hope she'd feel better. "Seems ya've dealt with yer share of trouble with these years..." The warrior sighed softly, looking down at her. Codrus pulled his cloak around them tight, keeping off the cold the best he could.

"Heh..." With a chuckle he stalled, trying to think how best to explain. "I'm not wholey human...I am as I was when I first traveled from the north...That rock you speak of," he humored as he held up his left hand, "wasn't really rock, ya see." For a moment it was normal and then shifted again. It once more became black and of a rocky texture. "It's my demon form...or a part of it. I had buried the power for some time but when I got rid of the vampirism I called upon it once more, aye aye..." Codrus let his hand shift back before hiding it beneath his cloak once more. "I had gained some...'powers'...and was able to become living once again...And now...I'm just how I was...A bit less naive, though, if ya can believe it." The warrior laughed, looking off for a moment. Indeed, in the many years, he had changed. Not so much a mindless brute anymore...it seemed he had learned a bit since then.

"I'm not entirely sure why I'm here though...just...wandering as it is..."

Aria sighed and looked as Codrus showed her his hand now with and explantion that seemed to make more sense then him being part rock or Earth spririt. She still couldn't seem to fit the pieces together of how he had become mortal again, but some things were best when not known, and she really enjoyed her super speed too much. looked back up at Codrus and saw his guarded expression. She sniffed the air and knew instantly why he was being so cautious. The orcs that she had smelled earlier aparently had friends. She stayed inside the circle of his arms, but twisted slightly to look out into the barren place that was the face of the mountain. She looked back at him, her eyes teaming with more questions than before. She knew the feeling of wondering...it wasn't always as relaxing as it sounded.

"I don't know about you, but I appreciate you being human again, the warmth is very nice. I'm sure my skin isn't helping your comfort...I do happen to have a few more charms if you would like a small fire inside the cloak. It won't give our postion away, considering the orcs seem to have friends...correct?"

She shifted in his lap till she faced him and held his hands to hers, it was risky, considering the cloaks were made of materials that could easliy catch on fire. She flexed her cold fingers and then used what little magic she had left to warm herself and Codrus. She moved the warmth through him first, then back to her, she let it circulate for as long as her magic held out. Her eyes fluttered and she lay against him again. With an apologetic grin, she closed her eyes and nodded off.

"I guess I never can stay away from good memories eh? Its odd, you always seem to make me sleep."

Codrus hummed, taking what she said as a compliment of sorts. "Being human again...it's more comforting than I thought it'd be." The warrior had gotten used to being so cold and feeling so lifeless for all those years. Once more he felt his blood coursing furiously through his veins and his heart thumping with such a rythm. It was all a relief for him, especially now that he didn't need to feed to stay alive. It was true he wasn't as strong as before, but he made up for that in other aspects. For the most part he was smarter now and that could easily make up for a bit of lost strength. More importantly he could use his demonic abilities freely again and they would come in handy in the hours to come.

The fire was nice...warm...soothing. But even as she fell asleep, he could not. Being tired wasn't a problem. The warrior felt like he could sleep for a few days. Exhaustion took hold much easier than it had before. He couldn't doze off though. Codrus watched the entrance of the cave. The light was failing and he heard the growls and grunts of orcs gathering outside their hiding spots. They'd come upon the corpses of their fallen soon enough. They'd find the two of them soon after...the only question was exactly how many of the little beasties were there? Without his sword he would be left to dealing with them one at a time. They were bigger, stronger, in these parts. More trouble than he truly felt like dealing with.

"Sleep up," he whispered, eyes glued to the harsh enviroment outside. "I'm sure yer gonna need it."

This sleep was deeper than any sleep she's ever felt since the deaths of all the ones she had once held dear. No nightmares stripped her of her comfort, no images, no memories, just deep sleep. But that didn't keep out the nagging feeling of caution that her companion was giving off as she slept. She knew he was watching out for the cave, but one man with a sleeping woman, even a vampire, was an easy target for an attack of revenge. She knew the orcs were going to show up again. Deep in her unconscienceness she pulled herself out of sleep and moved slowly, keeping under the warmth of the cloaks. Her neck was stiff and she moved it from side to side before stretching her back out and smiling at Codrus, who's eyes were still weary, but alert. She whispered lightly, sligthly fearing her own voice if the orcs were near.

" How long was I out?"

She looked around the darkened cave and sniffed the air. The temperature had dropped another 10 degrees at least and the wind had picked up. God what a terrrible place this was... She looked at Codrus again and noted his weary expression, but she knew better than to ask him so sleep and let her guard. She knew him a little better; he'd say no, or tell her to go back to sleep and let him guard. She sighed lightly and listened to the sounds of orcs trampling along the rocky pathes. For being so big and stupid they moved gracefully along the uneven ground. They were close, but they weren't quite close enough to worry....yet. She felt her hip and remembered she no longer had a sword, only her dagger and her old whip. She remembered a few spells, but they weren't as powerful without the spell book....damn. Well, at least Codrus had his sword. There was a slight sinking feeling in her stomach....no...no he didn't. She hadn't gotten when she carried him back. Damn.

"Well, lets see..we have to fighters both with out swords; one with a dagger and a whip and limited magic against a bunch of revenge thirsty orcs who sound larger than their brothers....this should be fun. Would you like to wait around for them to corner us or do you want to surprise them? I can get your sword if you distract them a second...I am still faster than you.
