The rather large town had little in the form of entertainment, and the people who lived there where not the most exciting lot. The thief sat in the shade on the corner of one of the buildings, watching the people pass by. Casi was not sure whyshe was out in this dreary place. Perhaps it was the fact thatshe could find some other poor unsuspecting soul to nick stuff from. But very few people had things worth stealing in this town. he remembered forcing herself into coming to this town to find a job, but whenshe arrived, all willingness to walk the right road was lost.

The young thief let out a sigh of frustration and her green eyes scanned the few new people who passed her by. Watching as two of the people skated on down the street; their backs to her. he noticed that they where quite well dressed and wealthy looking, and perhaps her string of bad luck was to be broken by these two people. Casi got to her feet slowly and began to trail the two people, keeping a safe distance. A small smile crossed the thief's face asshe skated slowly behind them. he would make this work, or at least try to make it work.

Casi followed the two people for sometime before deciding that it was time to act. he had watched and surveyed them for long enough and had seen how they reacted to certain situations and could guess how they would react towards her. It had been some time sinceshe had stolen something andshe had to admit that it was going to be harder than it usually was whenshe had been living in Avalon City. The girl took a nervous gulp before moving forward at a slightly faster pace, towards the two people, but not in a way thatshe would look suspicious. Casi looked them over one last time to spot anythingshe could grab fast. There was a small pouch of gold coins hanging from the one man's belt. It had been a long time sinceshe had got her hands on gold coins, and began to think of whatshe could do with the money. One thing was for sure though, a meal was the first thingshe would get.

Her face became expressionless asshe skated past a few other people, the distance between herself and her next victims growing smaller. Eventually the young thief was right behind the two men. he skated slightly faster, and pushed between them. Using the slight shove to her advantage, he took the pouch of gold with little trouble. he continued walking as the men mumbled about how rudeshe had been to push between them, unaware of the fact that they had been robbed.

Beast sat in the alleyway, covered in a travellers cloak, just on the wedge as to look out into the crowd. Those who walked by thought perhaps that he was an extremely large begger, or possibly a thug. It was not their place to ask questions in this part of the world, where the rule of law was a bit harsher, the dangers more wild. It was what had lured Beast here in the first place. However, he was meeting the smae dificulties he now faced to the north. While people didn't react as volitile as they had done in Avalon city, they were very hestitant not to slightly panic a first glance. In addition to this was the new problems he faced since the inroduction of his other half. Society wasn't quite as bareable as it once had been, now that he endured the sensations and pull of instinct quite strongly. Even now, the aftermath of what he had done still effected him, his eyes and ears open so that he could hear and smell every footstep, every heartbeat, more intensely then he had in the past. By whatever magics lay in this body of his, he could even feel the fear, anger, frustration almost like waves of heat from the crowd. It was a fine line he walked now, a fragile balance between the man and the animal he was.

He neither saw nor heard her first, it was the smell that first caught his attention, carried on the slight breeze amoung the combined scent of warmth and bodies. It was a scent he could never forget, because it was the scent that had almost cost him everything, his first real hunt. His first betrayal of mind. After that, it was as if his mind zeroed in on her, he could hear her heartbeat as she walked the street, felt the growing anticipation as she stalked victims of her own, and the satisfaction as she lifted the pouch from the belt. She was walking this way, and he realized his heart was pounding, perhaps a relapse of the guilt he felt for... But that was behind them now, when they had last parted it was on good terms, dispite what had happened.

As she drew near, he let out a wisper, his voice, he knew would carry to her on this breeze, so the words would be lost to the rest of the crowd. "Not quite the line of work I would choose," he said, "But then, I'm not the type who can so easily walk unnoticed in a crowd."

Casi was thrilled that she had not forgotten how to go about her 'job' without too much notice. She could not resist the sly smile that crossed her face. She was going to enjoy these few coins... She was going to really enjoy herself. She could just imagine what she would do. It was not much money, but it would surface, especially for a pint of rum or ale and a warm meal; a truly rare treat for her. She let out a sigh and smiled contently, walking past a few alley ways that lined the street she was on.

As she passed the one alley, she felt the hair on the back of her neck stand on end and she stopped dead in her tracks. It was not normal for her to feel so nervous in a town, this was her domain. A faint whisper caught her attention from in the alley way. The voice sounded familiar, the same as one she had heard before. Curiosity over came her nervousness and she turned to face into the alley way, taking a step into the shadows that shrouded the area. Then she saw him. He was bigger than any human she had ever laid eyes on, and he looked rather out of place. Realizing who it was Casi took another step forwards, leaning her back against the opposite wall to that that Beast was resting against. The smile returned to her face as she looked at him. "It was not my choice of profession. I have my parents to blame for that... How have you been as of late, Beast? It's good to see you again." she said in a quiet voice, pocketing the coins, and forgetting what she was going to do with them.

“I’ve had my ups and downs since we parted,” said Beast, “At least this time we met in less harrowing circumstances.” His time since their last encounter had been spent trying to level out his emotions. Like it or not, his new instincts had forced him on quite a few hunts, an activity he engage in as far away from people as he could. He did not think Casi would approve of this activity, all things considered, as much as he did not approve of stealing from people. Still, it had become a necessity to balance out his primal urges. He had tried going cold turkey, only to find that it made him more antagonistic and subject to outbursts of animalistic behavior when faced with lack of company to keep him in a human mindset. Simply put he needed a way to release his pent up animal instincts or lose himself to them. And he’d rather a controlled hunt then a repeat of the nightmare that had occurred once before.

“Have you been well?” He asked, noting that she looked a little rough around the edges. The fact that she was stealing also seemed to indicate that she had fallen on harder times.

Casi crossed her arms across her chest and sighed as she listened to what Beast said. She was glad to see him again, that she could not deny, and her smile grew slightly as he spoke. There first meeting had not been too good an experience, especially after only having escaped narrowly. She had had many months to think about it all as she went on about her own life, and in between tackling the problems that came with each new day.

"I’ve been better... "She said, in reply to his asking how she had been.”Times are getting rather hard as of late, jobs few... So yet again I’ve been reduced to me old ways." Casi retrieved the small pouch of coins from her pocket and bounced it on the palm of her hand. Her usual rather scruffy appearance was slightly more so as of late. But at least she was still alive, and well. Well, better than the average person in this place. "This place is depressing, but I ain't finished in this town yet, so I’m stuck... So, what you doing in here?" she asked, sliding down the wall and taking a seat, her back resting against the wall.

“Falling back on my old ways, I guess,” said Beast, a little downheartedly, “Searching for that elusive place where I fit in. Searching for cures and miracles. I met a mage, and found out that magic won’t change me back. Or into anything else to be specific, he was trying to turn me into a toad.” He gave a low chuckle, though as disheartening as the news had been, it did ergo some humor. “I afraid I’m back to square one, with the additional discomfort of having a wild animal inside me.” He guessed he was perhaps being a little depressing, though that was partially due to the atmosphere this little city gave off. Clouds hung in the sky, making the day seem much darker then it usually would. The damp smell of impending rain seemed to hang in the air, making it seem dreary and dull. “At least I can brighten one of our days.” said Beast, rummaging in his pack for a small pouch. He glanced to the side, looking out of the alley for prying eyes, before carefully emptying the content of the bag onto his palm. It was immediately obvious that doing so was difficult for him, his hands not dexterous enough to handle such a small object, but he managed.

Out of the bag spilled a small pile of tiny diamonds, which sparkled even in the dim alley. It was clear from their size that they would not bring a huge price on a market, but it would surely buy a weeks worth of food and descent bedding. Beast quickly poured the diamonds back into the pouch, tightening the loop before handing it to Casi. “I believe I still owe for my behavior that night.”

Casi listened and her mood which had improved slightly now dropped again as Beast spoke. The tone in Beast's voice was a depressed one, one that matched the general feel given off by the town and its people. He said he was looking yet again for a place he would fit in, and as he finished speaking, he chuckled in almost the same way he had spoken. Casi smiled weakly, realising that she and Beast where in similar situations, searching for a place to fit in. She had less trouble with that though, until people found out what she was, and then they turned on her. The life of a thief was not an easy one, but slightly more pleasurable than the one that Beast led. "I’m sorry to hear that." she said, quietly, the same weak smile on her face.

When Beast spoke again, his words caught Casi's curiosity and she wanted to find out what he meant. She leaned forwards as he produced a small pouch of something. When he emptied the small bag, Casi felt her jaw almost drop. She had never seen diamonds before, except for those worn by the rich and important, or lucky of Avalon City. She found herself just staring without blinking at the small stones. When Beast poured them back into the small pouch and handed it o her, saying that he owed it to her, she shook her head. Whether she wanted them or not, she could not accept them. She sat up straight again, and looked down into her lap. "I can't accept them... Keep them, please. You owe me nothing. What I did, well... I think of you as a friend, even after all that happened. It would be like stealing them, and well, even though I’m a thief... I know stealing is wrong. Keep them. Please?" She said, sure of what she was saying. It made her almost feel guilty for having stolen the coins from the two men passing by.

Beast chuckled again, "My young friend, their is a world of difference between what is taken and what is offered. This is a gift to a friend to helped me out in a dark period of my life. Besides, I have no use for them, I cannot sell them, no one will tolerate me in such places of high establishment, so they are little more then pretty stones to me." He had tried selling the stones, but had been rejected before he could even take out the bag. Those he did manage to show them to had simply called the guards to try and have him arrested for stealing. That didn't end well. No, the stones were useless to him, so it seemed to him that Casi would have a far easier time finding somewhere to pawn them.

Casi rubbed her arm as she listened to Beast as he chuckled and spoke. She looked idly at the small bag holding the precious stones. They could have some value, but just the thought made her feel bad. "I... I still feel guilty." she said, her expression a rather uneasy one as she took the pouch from Beast's hand. She looked at it for a minute, and a smile crossed her face. She looked at Beast, the same smile playing across her face. "I'm glad that you consider me a friend... and thanks." She put the small pouch away in one of the pockets on the inside of her cloak where they would be safe. She had never been so close to another person, and enjoyed how happy it made her. "Would you like something to eat? There is a stall that sells some brilliant bread and cheese not far from here."

"I would be glad of it," said Beast, rising to his feet, "Perhaps you would like some fruit to go with that? I know where there are a few peach trees close to here." It was almost an imperative that Beast find sources of edible food in a city, as it was hard to comeby for him. Many times he wouldn't be sold to on base appearance, so he had to know where an alternative was so he didn't have to leave town every time he needed to eat. Of course peaches were not in season at the moment, which Beast knew perfectly well, and he guessed Casi knew it too. He let the mystery hang in the air, for diamonds were not the only thing he wanted to show Casi.

Casi scrambled to her feet as Beast got to his. She dusted off herself off and felt her pocket to make sure that the coins where there still. She looked at Beast as he asked if she would like fruit with the other food that she would be buying. "Alright." she said, as he mentioned the few peach trees just outside of the village. She realised that she had passed the trees when she had first entered the town and had not seen a single fruit on them. She lead the way out of the alley way, a rather puzzled look on her face, "Peaches... at this time of the year?" she thought, her eyes scanning the streets. They where rather deserted and quiet. Under normal circumstances this would be awful for business for the girl, but she did not need anything at the moment apart form food, so all was well.

Casi lead the way down the street and to the stall she had been talking about, she hurried on ahead and bought two loafs, as well as half a wheel of the best cheese they had, which she had cut in two. This was what she considered to be a good meal, but then, it was all she ever got and knew no better. "Now, those peaches..." she said, handing Beast his loaf and cheese, "Where are we supposed to find peaches at this time of the year?" she laughed slightly as she broke some of the bread from her loaf and ate it.

Beast did not start eating right away, waiting until they had left the more populated area before he had began eating. Casi had seen him eat before, and in a much worse way then he normally had to. In only a few bites, He finished off the loar and cheese, the sight of which was a little disturbing, as his jaw was not designed for chewing, revealing his sharp teeth. Licking the crumbs from his hands, he walked up to one of the peach trees. "Since... what happened, I've been going through some changes. I can feel things, feelings, people, things. Recently, I've been able to tap into that," he brought a clawed paw-like hand up to one of the trees branches, curling it arond it, and closing his eyes. He focused on the branch, until he could feel it, and then, he pushed. A green glow seemed to eminate from the branch, and Beast felt the familiar flash of animal instinct. He did not do this often, even if only a moment it tapped into that part of him that was animal.

The tree branch suddenly began to change, flowering until it began growing fruit, and ripened peaches began to form swelling into ripeness until finally, it stopped, and a single branch of the tree was filled with beautiful and unblemished peaches. Beast picked on, pulling it easily from the branch, and offered it to Casi. "I can change things, push them along their natural course."

Casi ate her fill of the bread and cheese and put the rest away for later as she and Beast made there way to the outer limits of the town where the trees grew. She had grown curious about what Beast was on about. When they reached to orchard, Casi watched as Beast took hold of one of the branches, and listened as he spoke. The girl watched in disbelief as he closed his eyes momentarily and was utterly amazed by the change that the branch went through. It was spectacular to watch and she could not help but stare incredulously at the ripened peaches. "Wow...” She said, the only word that she could think of. "That was amazing... Thanks"Casi took the peach that Beast handed her and looked down at it, still not sure if what she had seen was real. It was very real, however, that was the only conclusion she could draw as she took a bite from the fruit. It was very succulent and sweet; perfect. She looked up at Beast and smiled, "So, that creature in you has opened new abilities to you." she said, very curious about what else he could do. She was having trouble finding words to say. "Doesn't this however upset nature's balance in some way?" she asked, taking another bite from the fruit.

"I don't think so," said Beast, looking back at the branch, "It's hard to describe, it's like simply moving it along it's natural course," he picked one of the peaches and bit it in half, exposing the hard pit in the center, "A seed becomes a tree, the tree bears fruit, the fruit produces seeds, and thus the cycle renews." He picked out the seed, planting it in the ground. "It is the same with the seasons themselves, a circle of life, no beginning, no end. I don't think something like that can be so easily unbalanced." The tree itself looked perfectly normal, besides the fact that a single branch was laden with peaches. Beast finished the rest of the peach with one bite.

She took another bite from the peach as she listened to what Beast said. She looked at the branch of the tree as he spoke, it looked rather strange; all the rest of the branches bare where as the one that Beast had cast his spell on bore fruit. Casi nodded as she finished the peach, "suppose so." she said, taking a seat on the grass in the shade. “It looks odd, doesn't it?" she asked, laughing slightly as she again looked at the branch. “Magic is amazing, but I only know how to perform one spell, and it’s rather destructive unfortunately, but at least it comes in handy in difficult situations."
