The moon light reflected off the murky pool of water by which the elfish vampire stood, her strange purple eyes surveying the surrounding lands. The flat grass plains where eerily quiet. Something about this place made her feel more aware than she usually was. Usually being surrounded by nothing but vast expanses of wilderness brought a smile to her face and made her feel at home, but not now and the reason still eluded(sp?) her. Her elfish ears took in what ever rustling sounds or noises that where made both by the gentle breeze that caused the knee high grass to sway slowly. Quietly and cautiously she walked on through the grasses. She could have flown out of this place, but her wings had cramped and hurt her slightly. They where more of a trouble than a gift, even though it was always nice to know that she could get out of tight situation just by flying out of it. The girl was rather confused about life at the moment, and perhaps it was because of this reason that she was feeling so uncertain about her surrounds.

After walking for a while she stopped and looked up at the full moon. It was so peaceful, and enchanting. Drievaz looked about her once more before making hr way over to a lone tree that grew in amongst the grass. It looked so out of place and lonely; rather like she was at the moment. She was not sure about where she stood in this world anymore. Freaks rarely made it in this land, and those that did often did not survive for much longer after that. She walked up to the tree, and placed her hand gently on the bark, feeling its rough texture. It brought a smile to her face for some reason. "You and me are in the same situation old friend” she whispered to the tree, not that there was any point in it. It comforted her some how. Drievaz took a seat under the giant in the middle of no where, resting her back against the hard tree trunk and closed her eyes, breathing in deeply so that her lungs where filled with the fresh cool air. "No point in asking this, but what is the point in living?" she asked no one at all. She laughed suddenly. It was strange, she had be deprived of contact with other people for so long that she had taken to talking either to herself or to things that could not even reply. Her life really was a mess.

"Oh?" a voice said behind Drievaz, "there are many points of living, most of which I enjoy." It was the deep voice of Cyrus Shadow. After seeing the puzzled look on the Elvish vampire's face he smiled. "I am a wanderer. I come to places like these a lot," Ludo said, "although I do not enjoy them." Then he quickly added, "I am Cyrus the Wanderer. Call me Ludo though."

He edged toward the strangely beautiful Elf. She did not look arrogant, like the other elves he had met. He did not have a weapon though, so he kept some distance. Then his face formed into a frown. His entrance had been sudden, and maybe this woman did not enjoy his presence. But she also had started talking to trees, which was never a good sign.

He glanced around. It was surprising; rain had not poured down for about three days, which was extremely rare. There was a big, crumbling monolith which stood impressively in the far west and a bog surrounded them. Occasionaly some drops of water from an extremely heavy downpour three days ago slid off of leaves and plopped on his boots. The smell of lush vegetation filled the air.

"Anyway," Ludo continued, "do you wish for me to leave? Is my presence bothersome to you?"

The last thing she had been expecting was a reply, and the deep voice that answered startled the girl and she spun around quickly; and in such a way that she was on her knees, to look for the person who had spoken. Her face showed the surprise and unease she was suddenly beginning to feel but after seeing the smile on the strangers face, she began to feel less edgy. How she had not sensed his presence she was not sure, but a small part of her sparked with excitement at the thought of perhaps getting a chance to talk to this man but the other part of her was telling her to watch her back. The feeling was stronger than the urge to start a conversation, but only because she had no weapons with her at the moment. The elf introduced himself as Cyrus, but said that he would prefer to be called Ludo instead, and Drievaz nodded her head in acceptance. He seemed quite a friendly fellow, but that was just a first impression, there was still plenty of time for her to change her mind about her thoughts of him.

Keeping track of his movements, she introduced herself to Ludo as he had done to her. "It's an honour to meet you, Ludo... Name's Drievaz Thuveir, but you can call me Slytha if you wish." The tone in her voice was a rather friendly one, unlike it usually was. This was the first time in a while she had been able to talk to a person and she was not going to mess it up for herself, well, she'd try not to. Her purple eyes followed the gaze of the stranger as he looked towards the west and towards the swamps. The smell of the crisp night air was wonderfully relaxing, and put the girl in such a mind set that she did not really mind if the man sat down and talked to her, or left.

The next words he spoke brought a slightly rosy colour to her cheeks. She did not mind him staying around her; in fact, she would rather enjoy his company. "There is no need to go, your not bothering me at all. In fact it’s quite nice to have someone around... other than the tree that is" she said, laughing quietly, the sharp tips of her fangs sticking out behind her upper lip. She turned around again, and once more leaned back against the trunk of the tree. "Wonderful evening, isn't it?" she asked, not really sure on what to talk about. It usually went in this manner. The moment she finds someone to talk with, she lost almost all ability to find an interesting topic to discuss. The usual wave of embarrassment swept over her and she began to fiddle with slit in her dress. It was a nasty habit, just like biting her lower lip was. She could not really help how nervous she was, especially since she had little experience when it came to interacting with people.

Ludo smiled in amusement as the girl's head went down in nervousness. He walked closer and lifted her head up with his hand. Woah, thought Ludo, I'm getting too close to her. Maybe it was the air. Was she some how unpurposely tempting him? He walked backwards.

"There is no need to be nervous, Slytha. And it is indeed a good evening," Ludo said, but his face formed into a worried frown. "Time will not wait for any creature, and we are no exception. Darkness is falling, and we must leave this place. The beasts out here are already beginning to hunt."

At that moment, a ghostly howl resounded through the forest. "Exactly my point. Although, we can stay here for half an hour." He looked into the distance. The source of the howl was a wolf, baying melancholy howls from the top of a looming cliff. He shifted his gaze to the west, where the monolith still stood. A pack of four-legged creatures had found refuge in the ancient reminder of the tribes that had lived here long ago.

The two talked for a good twenty minutes. Then Ludo looked up and saw the fat sickle of the moon hanging down. A series of ravaged puddles lay still and the two loners' faces reflected off them, slowly being marred by natural ripples. Slow drops of water plopped on Ludo's head. The drops were from a heavy downpour three days ago. They were slowly sliding off from a funnel-like leaf. There were about ten-second intervals between every plop.

There was no time for observing though. Creatures advanced toward the bog that surrounded this clearing, and soon they would reach Cyrus and Drievaz, and then all this admiration would be useless. Ludo bent down and grabbed a particularly sharp stick.

Without question, he grabbed Slytha's arm. With quick strides, he advanced through the maze of trees, still clenching onto Slytha's arm, maybe a bit too tightly. This girl didn't look fragile though, like most of the women he met in the villages he had seen in the course of his time as a traveller. He beat flies that were attracted to the salty sweat that clung onto the back of his neck.

Suddenly droplets fell from the heavens. It was rain. Ludo groaned. "Great time to rain," he complained. He put the stick in his belt and used his free hand to shield his head from the rain which was now falling in a rapid downpour. He turned towards Slytha. "There's a cave nearby. I passed it before I met you."

Suddenly, there was a path. It wasn't actually a path, though. People had walked this route many times, and now the grass was crushed into submission. "Yes, I remember this path! We're close, only a few minutes away!"

His quick gait slowly turned into a run, and in a few minutes, the mouth of a cave was visible. There was a little portion of rock on the top and bottom, which looked like lips, and stalagmites and stalactites formed at the entrance of the cave, resembling sharp teeth. The whole cave which was smiling menacingly.

Ludo walked hesitantly into the cave, still clutching onto Slytha's arm. There were a few logs, and a fire pit. People had been here. "We'll be safe here," he said softly and sat on one of the logs.

She lowered her head in a pointless attempt to hide her unease. She sensed him moving forward and towards where she was seated, and when she felt him lift her head with his one hand, she turned a slightly pinker colour. Drievaz let the breath she had not realized she had been holding out and felt relief when she noticed him backing away again. She listened as he spoke after putting some distance between them, and saw the look of unease that crossed his face. Apparently this man was not too fond of being out on the plains at night. Was he afraid of the creatures, or the thought of being surrounded by them? It was not really her place to be curious about his feelings, so she pushed the thoughts about of mind.

The eerie silence of the night was broken by the lonely howl of the wolf, and the glowing eyes of a pack that lived by the old monolith shone in the moonlight. The beasts of the wild had never bothered or frightened her. She had been in many dangerous situations involving wolves and bears, and had always got out of them intact. She had respect for the creatures. For the next twenty or so minutes the two people talked, but the subjects which they discussed changed repeatedly. Drievaz was rather glad that she for once had some company. The moon shone brightly in the dark night, and the cold was beginning to set in for the night. The few clouds that hung in the sky where slowly beginning to block the moonlight out, making the moor lands have a haunted look about them.

She looked up through the branches of the tree she sat beneath as the dark blackened clouds gathered over the large expanse of land. The hoot of the owl that perched in the branches above Ludo and her, sending a tingle down the vampiric elf’s spine. She noticed Ludo getting to his feet and grabbing up a sharp sick from the ground. It amused her that he could be so afraid of the creatures that stalked the plains. There was plenty of other wildlife for the carnivores to feed on. She felt him grab her up and begin to lead the way through the night. He had gripped her lower arm tightly and it was beginning to hurt her slightly, but not to the point of being unbearable. She did not protest at being dragged off away from the place she had been resting. What puzzled her was why the man would want to drag her off away from the place she had settled. She was a complete stranger and neither of them knew each other well considering that they had only been talking for twenty or so minutes.

Thousands of drops of water began to fall from the dark clouds above them and Drievaz heard the man grown and mumble about the rain. She could not help but think that the man complained too much. By the time that Ludo had lead her to a path that lead up through the dense trees and undergrowth, both she and Ludo where soaked through to the skin and small streams of water ran down the path on which the two where travelling. Water ran down Drievaz’s wings and her long dark brown hair stuck to the sides of her face. Ludo’s voice broke through the sound of the rainfall and thunder and she saw the cave he had been talking about come into view through the thick curtain of water. It looked like a great monster sleeping; its jaws wide open and it sent a shiver down her spine. She felt as though she would rather brave the night with the wolves than enter the darkness of the cave, but it would be foolish to stay out on a night like this. When Ludo had entered the cave she entered as well, being as careful as possible so that she would not snare the thin membrane of her wings on the sharp edges of the formations that looked like jagged teeth.

She looked over to where Ludo had seated himself, still clutching her arm and nodded when she heard his words. “It’s colder in here than it was outside” she said, beginning to shiver slightly. She felt the cold, like she felt heat and pain, but only because of her elvish blood, if she had been a pure vampire, the cold would not have bothered her at all. She took a seat near to where Ludo sat, and after prying her arm out from his grip, rubbed her hands together to produce some friction to warm herself up. The cave was damp and the logs on the ground where moist from the water vapour that they had absorbed. She reached out and felt the pile of wood to check if it would be possible to light a fire with. “Shit, the wood is too damp for a fire.” She said a frustrated tone in her voice. Drievaz stared out of the cave, through the thick curtain of water than ran past the entrance.
