Methos stood impatiently. He was waiting were the road West into the Yseultes began. He had told the Arden and the other to meet him here. THey had many days of mountain trecking ahead of them. These mountains were also to be rumoured to be overrun with orcs, goblins and all of those inferior, idiotic creatures. He hefted himself into a tree off the side of the road and notched an arrow on the string. 'Just incase any idiots come...' He thought, pulling back a bit. He crouched on the branch, listening, watching, waiting. |

On her way to meet Methos and the apprentice Arden, Antigone heard the creak of a bowstring being stretched. She paused and looked around in alarm. When she realized there was nothing there, she shook her head to clear it. The major drawback of elf ears was that they heard everything, whether or not you were near the source when it was created. They were incredibly useful, but sometimes rather aggravating. She continued walking, now more aware of her surrounings. |

Arden trekked carefully towards the destination his master had given him. As he traveled farther and farther from civilization he grew more careful and checked his surroundings expertly, just as he had been thought. Even the tiniest movement was broken down by his careful scrutiny. After all, his master had thought him that sloppy observation resulted in death. He had been assaulted too many times by his master because he was too loud, or too quick or simply failed to notice the clues that were right in front of him. When he neared the appointed location he saw a stranger walking among the path. Arden hid behind a tree and watched the female’s movements. He noticed her long ears and how they twitched from time to time. Surely no sound went unheard by those long and slender ears, but that simply meant that Arden would have to be more careful. To prove his theory he took a small pebble and threw it toward another tree that in close behind her, but to the far right. |

He watched as Arden creeped up the road. Antigone had noticed him, but disided against investigating. Arden threw a rock at a tree a little behind the elf. 'What is he playing at?' Methos thought. He raised his bow and took careful aim. The area near the boys foot seemed apropriate. With a dull thud, ringing in his ears with a harmonic sond, the string snapped forward. The arrow was true to its mark. It landed barely an inch away from his foot. Not shaking any of the tree branches, he moved to the opposite side of the tree. He had about 3 feet of solid wood between him and them. He would play cat and mouse for a little while. |

An arrow sneaked silently towards Arden and landed near his foot. There were two targets now. One who had noticed him, and the other who walked around. Arden knew full well the meaning of the arrow, the games had begun and he and this stranger were the competition, their master was victory. Arden would enjoy showing his master how much he had improved since their time apart. Arden began moving swiftly but carefully. He pressed his body against the trees and waited. Once he was sure none were aware of his location he would move to another hiding place. He chose to take care of the competition first and then to seize the prize, when none could get on the way. He got closer to the woman using the aforementioned strategy. With her enhance hearing she could probably detect him, which is why he passed his hand over his robe and activated the invisibility spell. His whole body was covered by the enhancement and he completely disappeared from sight. Once he was invisible he grabbed a handful of pebbles and ran towards her, he threw them towards a tree, hoping that the noise would distract her to that he could pounce on her and bring his steel to her throat. |

Jumping slightly at the sound of stone on wood, Antigone spun. Before she could place the sound's origin, she heard a thud behind her. Twirling around she spotted an arrow dug deep into the ground near the base of a tree. She checked the angle of it and traced it back to another tree. Looking up, she thought she caught a glimpse of movement, but was distracted by a glimmer of magic by the tree. Suddenly another sound rang in the quiet unergrowth. She twisted her body around and lashed out in the direction of the sound, not giving it a chance to escape. Her foot met air, and she tumbled over, using her weight to roll back up to her feet, about 3 feet from where she had been. She pricked her ears. Knowing someone was toying with her, she began to get angry. Trying to keep her temper under control, she stood and listened. She kneeled down and touched the ground, trusting the earth to warn her of someone's approach. |

The girl was smarter than he had expected. But not to smart. Sure, its hard to spot cloaked enemies, but they can mess with ground as well, or they could be birds like himself. He watched on, as Arden moved stealthly around. He couldn't put his finger on what he was trying to do. A game of cat and mouse all the same, he thought to himself. He would watch and see if the girl could put her mettle to the test. Or if she was just another simpleton. He notched another arrow, not pulling back the wood. He feared it would creak, but he knew better. He had worn this bow to the limit. It did not creak. It bent smoothly and silently, all of the fibers used to being streched out. He scanned below. He had lost sight of Arden, but he would find him soon. No one hid forever. |

Antigone's head snapped up as she heard the stretch of a bow string. Twisting around, she looked for it's source. "Jeez, I hate being played with like this," Antigone thought. Searching for a sign of movement, she slowly worked her way up a tree, then pulled out her rat, Avoni. "Go search for whoever it is who's doing this. Don't get yourself killed," she told him, kissing him on the head. She watched him run out over the branches of the tree and pulled out her Ranger's bow, waiting for either his signal or a sign of movement. |

Arden was moving around carefully making sure to use other object to create as much misleading noise as possible. But he knew that with she scouting the earth for noise and his master scouting from above one would spot him soon enough. He began thinking about what to do, when he saw a rat move closer to him and smell the air. At first he dismissed it, but when he saw it scurry back towards the woman he knew that his position was compromised and that he had to find cover soon. He pressed himself against the tree and drew his sword. He figured two possible scenarios would take place, the woman would fire arrow in that direction hoping to catch him or his master would sink an arrow near him to give him out to the other one. He knew his master liked these types of games and would do anything to promote his entertainment. Either way it was the kind of situation that require him to wait and react according to the action that developed. |

And act he did. He quietly unscrewed the tip from 3 arrows and notched one on the string. He moved around silently, putting his back to the she-elf and giving himself a clear shot at Arden. He then paused. He raised hir right foot and stomped it down. The brach fell down. Now that they were both most likely looking at that spot, he dashed to another tree. He broke off a branch and hurled it at the girl and then firing the blunt arrow shaft at Arden. He struck right in the calf, an inch or so below the knee. It bounced off and landed on the ground next to him. He took the next two arrows and notched them. Using a little trick he learned, he fired above the elf. They skimmed the tree and rode around the truck. They then shot out and buried themselves in the ground near the elf, pointing form the opposite dirrection. He stopped himself from continuing and waited to see what they'd do. |

Antigone smiled as Avoni made his way back to her. "What have you to tell me, precious one?" she whispered. Avoni looked back the way he had come and squeaked. Antigone heard the soft hiss of metal being pulled across leather. Fast as lightning, she snapped her arm, sending three knives at the source of the sound. Before she could see the results, she heard a stomp, followed by a crash as a branch plummeted for the forest floor. Her head snapped up in response to a new thud, and she turned to see one of her knives had found its mark, pinning something to a tree. Hearing the sound of wood on cloth as an arrow hit near her knife made her sure she had caught someone... or something. But before she could revel in her success, she heard the wind whistle and ducked just in time to dodge a flying branch. Antigone jumped down, landing in a roll. Dashing over to where her knife was gouged into the tree, she unsheathed her sword and moved behind the trapped figure. "You may as well release that spell," she whispered. "Once you're caught, you're caught. Wanna help me catch the other one, or are you going to be difficult?" |

Arden released the spell; it was useless he had already been caught. Pain filled his mind as he scanned the area where the blunt arrow had struck. Their master was testing them and it would be impossible to impress anyone if he was up against two enemies. The best thing to do was to try and work together with the elven woman, perhaps her keen ears would help them find their master and give him a taste of his own medicine. “I’m Arden. Sorry about before… I think he wants us to work together. He thinks we can’t take him on. But I think that you and I can… you and I can prove him wrong!” Arden whispered taking out his dagger-sword. It felt good to have the old blade by his side; it was a constant reminder of the strength he had gained and the goals yet to be reached. “What do you say? Should we work together, or...” he asked preparing for any funny business from the elven woman, after all she could very well chose to attack him and deliver him to their master as a sign of superiority. |

Antigone smiled triumphantly. One down, one to go. She considered using this one, Arden he called himself, as bait, but she decided against it. If this other person could handle them both alone, she needed all the help she could get. Besides, it could be fun, having someone to help. "I'm Antigone," she said, dropping the sword from it's guard position. "Working together is the best idea we can use right now, cause we definitely can't take him alone. Do you have anything in mind?" |

Arden thought about their predicament for a while. He knew that the stranger was sure to be his old master, because he was just the kind of guy to call you up for a meeting and start shooting arrow from the darkness. Besides who else would be shooting blunt arrows, but someone that wanted to train them rather than harm them. The real question was, how to catch him without taking too many hits, after all the master had a temper and if they failed, they were likely to be at he mercy of his cruel punishments. Arden didn’t want to reveal his ace yet, so he had to stick to short range for now. However his master was dominating them from afar and to move around in order to get closer, would only lead to exhaustion and the master could possibly find patterns in their movement and eventually strike them down. However they couldn’t just stand around either, arrows would beat them to the ground without mercy if they did. Antigone as the elfin woman had named introduced herself, was fast and she could hear the arrows before they struck. It was very likely that she could use her ears to pinpoint the location of the master, however they had to strike quickly, because he wasn’t dumb enough to stay in one place waiting for them, he was probably getting ready to move and strike again, right about now. “We have to keep moving. Find any areas that would hinder his master’s aim. Stay low and take only swift and calculated movement. Running around aimlessly is a waste of energy. Find a place to hide and try to find him, if you can’t move to another place and try again, for surely by then he’s already found you. I’ll keep moving, drawing his attention also trying to find him. I don’t have a range weapon, so you’ll have to take him out. If I spot him I’ll yell the eagle flies and the direction he’s currently at. Good luck…” he said running away from her and rolling swiftly in a thick overgrowth of bushes. His eyes scanned but he couldn’t see the master, so he kept moving, doing his best to camouflage himself and scout for his master at the same time. |

Finally, he saw results. Rangers, unless celestial, were weak on their own. Groups of rangers were something to be reckoned with, especcially if they were friends. He smirked to himself as he set up the next trap. Something he had gone through considerable grief to make. It was a set of boots propelled by force to make it sound as if someone was running. He set it on a branch, notched an arrow and shot the plate, sending the thing boots in motion. They made a quick thumping noise as he quickly hoped the ten foot gap in between the trees. On the way over, three arrows found themselves attached to the string. He pulled back and as he landed, he pivoted on one foot and let loose a storm of blunt wooden shafts. They all wizzed and hissed in the direction of the two apprentaces. He sprinted across the thick branches into a thicket of leaves and aimed carefully out into the open road and beyond, looking for their movement. |
