He chuckled softly at her response. Xain had found that she was rather nice company seeing as how she lightened up a bit since he first ran across her. Of course he cared little that she was vampire, even if somewhere in the back of his mind he couldn't help wondering how his blood would effect her and if she had any soul to affect him. Though these were merely musings, not something he was actually going to act upon. Incubus or not, soul stealer or not, Xain still had his manners. "Well, you could try." He jested, seeing little harm in it. "I am here because I find you to be the best company I can find at this point in time." In that he gave a little wink, if not just to see her reaction. |

Olivia liked his laugh, something about it amused her as well. For some reason she had lots of trouble believing that two people could laugh together…it was always one person, and they were always laughing at the other. A shared joke always had a hidden bite to it, someone was being mocked and that was what made it so funny. The vampiress was glad that she had decided to lose her sad and reflective mood; it really brought down the quality of the company when you thought about it. It was much better to leave the serious stuff for later, when you could devote actual thought to it, without being interrupted by conversation. “What? You don’t want to go seduce some pretty young lady? Steal her away from a man? Show her a good time, even,” she laughed darkly, but seemed flattered. So, she was good company, sometimes. That was news to her; she had always figured that people found her extremely boring. That was why she tended to make herself scarce during the day (other than for the obvious reasons) and avoided social situations. It came with being extremely isolated and traveling alone for weeks at a time. |

"Ah, I could do that anytime. Besides I'm a bit more subtle than that. Make it seem like the woman's idea always seems to work out for the best." Xain usually didn't go after people who were 'taken', so to speak. Things usually worked out better for him that way, after all he wouldn't want to be refused entry to his favorite hunting grounds due to starting to many bar fights. Even if he did have the ability, he could take care of himself well enough. "Anyway, I don't think about finding a meal all the time." Yes, she was good company, by his standards anyways. Xain was rather tired of how dull nights spent in taverns could be. He did enjoy more civil conversation from time to time. And the vampiress had easily proved a welcome distraction. |

Olivia laughed. “You are awful confident in your abilities, to say that a meal comes easily,” she said, winking at him. Though, he did seem as though he would be extremely successful at ‘hunting’ as the pair of them probably called it. Olivia herself was quite good, but she hunted simply by necessity, and while blood was beautiful for her, she regretted the times when she was so overcome by lust that she took the innocent or the young. Instead, she fed upon the old and the greedy; the beggars and thieves. Those who would do badly upon the town, and in that way, she felt more like one of the worlds cleansers, and less like a monster. She was forever questioning her own humanity. “Well, I’m glad to hear that you don’t allow your feeding habits to take over your life. So many that I know have, and it’s a pity really,” she remarked, thinking over her life. And what a long life it was, and it likely would be. Longer than any mortal could conceive, she’d seen the rise and fall of many great empires and many gods and goddesses. “In a game like ours, when lust for the prey overcomes the hunter, who has really won?” It was a confusing question, once you thought about it. Olivia did love her conversations, ones that actually meant something and perhaps someone could take something away from them. She had never been a fan of idle chatter. |

"I never really cared. Victory is a night having slept well fed. I'm afraid I'm rather lax when it comes to a ... moral compass. " So he differed from her in that. At least he wasn't lying about himself. If anything Xain was honest, even when after prey he never lied to trick anyone into bed. Like he'd said before, he waited till his prey thought things were all her idea. "But I only eat when I'm hungry. I don't do it just for the thrill of it as others have. Though in my case it is often difficult to figure out whether it is cruelty or kindness in killing my own prey. I could let them live, but, humans do seem to value having a soul. Without it they tend to go rather ... lifeless." This was all things found in personal experience. His kind were not as easy to find as vampires seemed to be. Though Xain figured his kind would be too territorial for their own good should they meet up. |

Ah, morals. Who really said if people had them anymore or not? Olivia hardly paid attention to her own beliefs, though she did have a strict set of guidelines she unconciously followed, though many were simply part of her upbringing, or instinct that resonated down to the very core of her soul. She killed, that was very true, but a part of her justified her actions by thinking of how merciful she was being. They had no chance, those who opposed her. Nature had gifted her with advantages they could never hope to overcome. Try as they might, perhaps her chosen mortal for the night would escape, but Olivia wasn't alone. There would always be another creature waiting in the dark, always waiting for another meal. "To each their own--I hardly came here tonight to lecture you about your morals," she said with a shrug of her shoulders. It was much more reassuring that he noticed his absence of some form of morals, because then he knew his own faults. "Souls. What are the use of them? It is argued, always has been argued that I don't have a soul anymore than the humans do. That it died long ago, during the three days I slumbered, because for my mind to live on, bits of it and my body had to die," her nonchalant way of speaking seemed to be darkened at that sentence, and her eyes flashed momentarily. Obviously it was a rather touchy subject. "But, yes, mortals do seem to like their souls, it's one of the things they try to 'save' in their various prayers to all sorts of gods..." Her voice trailed off as her crimson eyes studied the sky and the land surrounding her. "I despise those who waste unnecessarily. Feed only when needed, that is what I was taught," her anger was reflected in her voice, and the tension in the air thickened. |

All this thought and pondering morals, the thoughts of waste not want not. It wasn't his style. He was not a particularly contemplative sort, his way of living didn't exactly recommend it. Still, he had his manners. Anyways, the vampiress was pretty. Xain never left with harsh words to any woman. Even though she had no soul, he was sure it was the same with him. After all, if he did have heart and soul he would have felt at least something for those he killed or, stole from. "Well, any act of gluttony rather through lust or hunger will only provide with nothing in the end. I know better than to waste a food source." And if there was anything he knew, it was lust and hunger. Speaking of which, he was beginning to feel the hunger now. Though he knew better than to try anything with this vampire. She could cut something vital off on a whim. That was something he had no doubt about. With a deep intake of breath he closed his eyes for a moment. After giving the vampire a side wise glance he stood. "Well, if you ever need an ear to chew off I'm usually around. Any tavern or inn will do." He winked briefly, it was obvious what he'd be doing in any of those places. With a stretch, he adjusted his belt before glancing off down the hill. "Apologies for just leaving you. But we all have our own hungers to attend to, yes?" |

Olivia could compare nothing to the experience of being starved of blood. It took over your life, causing you to go mad almost, with rage and the lust to taste the rusty tang of blood sliding down your throat. Nothing compared to that, it was an unpleasant experience as a whole and that was part of the reason why she was careful to feed only when she needed to- and she never skipped a meal. "Well, any act of gluttony rather through lust or hunger will only provide with nothing in the end..." His words made sense to her and she nodded to show that she understood. She could slightly feel his hunger rising, but ignored it as she knew that she was more than a match for him. She wasn't so easily tempted. After so many years on this earth, sex meant nothing. Mortal pleasures, to be sure, but she was past that point. "It was nice to meet you," that was not a lie- tonight had been interesting. At first it had been a sad occasion, but that had changed. She always enjoyed meeting new people, no matter how forbidding she appeared. Olivia liked Avalon, with it's diversity, and she sincerely hoped that she would see Xain again. Perhaps under different circumstances- for some reason, she had a sick and twisted want to hunt with him some time. His way seemed ...interesting, and she would enjoy seeing him do what he did best. There was an element of cruelty to what the pair of them did, but it was all to survive. What could be wrong with that? Giving him a small wave, she favored him with a true smile. "I hope to see you again, Xain." Waiting a moment, staring at his retreating back, she too stood and wiped the grass from her dress. Turning around, she walked in the opposite direction, humming to herself a little song. Oh, what a wonderous night it was. [Fin. :)] |
