Olivia was not here with a lover, nor with anyone she wanted to do anything with. She was here to hunt, the smell of blood coursing through her veins making her almost mad with bloodlust. It had been so long since she had eaten, and in their current occupation, the mortals around here were easy prey. They were such fools sometimes. In her current state, she was numb, no longer feeling as they did. At the beginning of her rebirth, things had mattered. She had morned every life that she had taken, refusing to feast on the young and healthy, instead taking only those near death. Now, it mattered little who she took; each life was worth nothing in her eyes. To be honest, she needed a reality check, and she realized that as she stared out at the setting sun. A long time ago, she would have noted the beauty of the place and basked in its calmness. Now, she was searching for her next meal, feeling nothing. Olivia found her mere existence disgusting. Of course, that didn't lead to her death; immortality had grown quite boring centuries ago as the years crawled by. Wiping her lips of the blood that was stained, she let the man she had been draining drop off a cliff, watching him fall with a coldness that could only be described as detached. Then, she returned to her perch on one of the many grassy knolls, listening to the distant strain of music. It was just like her to begin to sing a wordless song, feeling the notes slide out of her mouth with charming clarity. They echoed into the night, full of loneliness and the pain of watching one you loved die. It had been so many years since him and yet, she could never let go. He was always with her. |

Something drew him to this place, he did not know what, but it was not a thing to be ignored. He too, was a hunter, different from the vampire, but predator none the less. She took blood, he took souls, but it didn't really matter since none knew of the other's existence. This place though, it was different from his usual routine, he usually stuck to taverns and inns, luring unsuspecting ladies to bed and ... well giving them a good time before stealing their souls and usually killing them. Their life for his, that's all it ever was. Xain was no different from any wolf or great cat that stalked the woods, one simply did not feel guilt for taking their prey. He could feel the love here, such an amusement that it was. Just because he didn't love, his race couldn't, or else they would start regretting their prey. Regretting prey meant death, it was simply the way of things for his kind. But he could pretend, it was required of him, at least in the case of the more innocent souls he took. They fueled him like no tavern wench could, the innocent ones. But that was what brought him here, he supposed, it would be easy to find some lone soul in search for that piece to her broken heart. And he would give it to them, for a time. Ah, but first he had to find her, find 'the one'. So he set to searching, which involved a mere troll across the beach. The man, young man he appeared, looked like any rugged traveler. The sword across his back and worn clothes, blonde hair unstyled and eyes of a deeper green than the ocean off to his left. Yes ... just another aimless wanderer, surely not someone to be wary of. He didn't even look so travel or battle hardened, just a young man setting his first steps away from home. Of course, it was all such a facade, and there were certainly more handsome appearances he could take, ones to make ladies swoon and men envy. But Xain preferred it this way, he'd lived so long because of it too that he had no need to change. Xain had the ability, but not the need. Regardless he searched, ignoring those with couples and passing by as if they didn't exist. For a few moments he was beginning to feel slightly disappointed. Finding nothing he was just thinking of turning around and heading back to a city. But then, he saw her. The woman atop the hill, and with the wind's shift he could tell. Vampire. interesting. And there was the scent of blood, light still; mixed with the scent of salt. If nothing else, Xain was intrigued. Maybe he had a reason to be here after all. Food could wait for the time being. A few steps more, and he was at her back, weight shifted to one foot and his gaze resting against the back of her neck. "Lovely song. It have a name?" He had no need for formalities and such, after all he wasn't so bold as to try and lure in a vampire. |

Hearing footsteps and smelling the blood long before she could see him, she turned her head in that direction. He was no one, and her crimson eyes assessed the danger. There was nothing special to him, or so she could see. One of the many handsome young men she had seen in thousands of years, he was no different from the rest. Her song broke off as she waited in silence for the words that seemed to be forthcoming. "Lovely song. It have a name?" She was not disappointed, and instead of answering right away, she surveyed him with unreadable eyes before standing and facing him. "No, it doesn't. A song born out of randomosity is not often gifted with a name," she said, after a moment. She smelled the blood of a incubi, but at least he was no halfbreed like the people she had been meeting in Avalon. His blood was special; incubus were rarities, and it wasn't often that you got to taste a drop of that. Of course, not special enough for her to have him right then and there...no, never that special. "I suppose there is a reason you are here, love? Out with it then, and it'd better be good." The term of endearment came naturally to her. She was not social, preferring to hunt in solitude and live in solitude. It was her punishment for allowing the one man who could fill the loneliness in her heart be killed at the hands of mere mortals, and she accepted it gladly. Even before she had been reborn, she had never really fancied crowds. This new mans company, while not unwelcome, was not exactly begged for in the least. Instead, she eyed him while straightening her skirts on her overly revealing dress. There was no need for modesty; after thousands of years, it doesn't matter anymore. |

))*Dies* Too much Admin-ish stuff attacked.(( Some people were just so antisocial. Even if he did often put on an act whilst on the hunt, at other times he still was a nice, gentlemanly sort. That part of him wasn't a complete facade, Xain still liked socialization. He thrived on it, in a small way. But he was also a curious creature, one to poke and prod at something until he was satisfied. And yes, he knew that such a sentiment if put into those words could be taken on so many different levels. He watched her, his gaze careful not to stray any further than her neck line, but usually his eyes remained against hers. After all, he was far from being intimidated. "Ah. Lovely still however." Oh no, he was not put off by her vampirism or that unfriendly attitude of hers. "No doubt the same as yours, just different sorts of prey is all." He glanced around momentarily, his stance still casual. Modesty mattered little to one such as himself, in fact he didn't even seem to notice her style of dress. That was because it didn't matter, not at all. "Well, love." He smiled just slightly, returning her own pet name to her. "I don't suppose you care for company?" He sat down either way, after all it wasn't as if he needed her permission. Of course, if she just left, he would follow her. Just because, it had been a long time since anyone had gained his interest. |

ooc; No problem. ^^ Olivia realized the way she must seem, and at the moment she was satisfied. There was no reason for her to be a cranky vampiress; her bloodlust was no longer driving her mad, she was well fed, and she at least had a food source. There was nothing worse than being cut off from blood for an extended period of time. It drove her mad, literally. Be polite, be respectful, might as well accept the company. She thought, gently reminding herself that sometimes being social could help her. Olivia figured there was no harm in talking to him, and perhaps some good would come out of this day. The sun was slowly setting, though, and everyone knew that vampires were more dangerous at night...the real question was, did he care? "Is it really? Well, I suppose that gives us one thing in common," she said, her voice a bit more gentle, an actual smile playing on her lips. At the return of the pet name, her smile twitched a bit, as though she actually wanted to grin but wouldn't let herself. "I don't mind the company, truthfully. On such a night of beauty, it wouldn't do to be alone." Sitting back down on the grass, she carefully watched the sunset, still humming along a bit to the music that was straining to be heard. It was a nice night, and there was no point in spending it alone; Olivia had answered truthfully to that question. "Do you have a name, lovey?" She asked, after a moment of silence. "While using petnames is oh so fun, I think you will tire of it eventually. You may call me Olivia, if you like." The vampiress was trying as hard as she could to make the words sound less stiff and more ...polite. And failing, rather. |

He didn't care. There was no person, vampire or otherwise, that he was afraid of. Despite the facade of a boy just having left home, Xain was as battle experienced as any old soldier. Being a demon helped too, all in all he was not so easily killed off that he had reason to fear things. "Indeed, it would not." If she had smiled, he only would have laughed. After all, it wasn't every day that one made a vampiress grin. The incubus stretched, reaching to his back and withdrawing the sword only to rest weapon and scabbard down the hill at his feet. Leaning back with palms behind him, spread against the earth, he tilted his head skyward. "It is always better to view a sunset with company." It wasn't just a line, he meant it too. Xain was always truthful, after all no one asked him if he was out to steal their souls so he didn't have to lie. All the tricks of his 'trade' required no questions. "I've never met a pet name I didn't like." He smiled, ah yes there had been many little 'nicknames' he had gained, just like he had given so many away. It came with the game, and was especially useful since he didn't remember the name of every meal. "So many years and so many names." Truth be told he could not remember his 'true' name. He had only gone by the current one a few years ago, and even now he did not recall what his former name had been. "It is Xain, for now." He smiled slightly, for now, yes, he went by Xain, and he would never know when he might change it again. Not for a long while at least. |

Olivia found, that once she had tried, it was a lot easier to relax on a night such as this. Technically, she was dead; her heart was only beating out of habit and the same went for breathing. When naught much could kill you, what was the point in being so uptight? That, and that alone, was why she liked drinking so much. She could not die of 'alcohol sickness' [as the sailors called it], and it took so many drinks to get her drunk that by the time she was, everyone was already feeling an extreme buzz. Plus, in drinking contests, she always won. Gotta love the special abilities. "That it is, Xain," she said after a moment, testing out the name on her tongue. It felt odd, to actually be calling someone by something other than a pet name. Not unwelcome, just odd. Olivia didn't often stick around to get names, in any case. By then, she was gone with only a memory left behind. "I'm surprised that I've been able to retain my given name after so many thousands of years," she admitted after a moment. "I could shed this name and recreate myself, but I hold onto it for sentimental reasons. When the years pass in what feels like days, you hold onto what you can." There was no use in getting attached to humans; they died so easily and caused more pain than they were worth. If she was to find anyone to compliment her, it would have to be an immortal. But, her heart was bruised and there was no point in trying until it was healed a bit more. Just a bit longer; as though a thousand years hasn't been enough time. "Lovey, you may learn this as you grow older, if you ever do, that sometimes holding on is good...and other times, it will be the death of you," that was punctuated by a sigh and a wistful look at the sunset. "Immortality is all well and good, but the real trick is mastering what to let go and what to keep with you forever." The remainder of the sun was fading, but it felt too soon, too quick. |

It was always easy to relax, in calm little places like these or out in the city. For him, it was a natural thing to do. Calm down, have a drink, and meet people. Of course, he had no qualms with meeting a single vampiress out in the middle of nowhere, just like he had no problem meeting a tavern full of drunken ramblers. To him people were people, and that was pretty much all he needed. He wasn't so much affected by drink, at least not enough to cause him to think on it. Really to him a drink was taken just so he could make his prey think that they were not the only ones drunk and with no capacity for remembering. But he never felt any effects from such things. "Perhaps. But I shall just have to wait and see if there is anything worth holding onto." He didn't really care to tell the truth. Xain wasn't even sure if he, one of his kind, was about to love or care about anything that was not his own survival, pleasure, life. With all the power, the price one paid for being a demon. Oh well. He couldn't let things bother him. If he let such a life and things like his race (which were beyond his control) affect him, he wouldn't be as great a predator as he was. A predator of souls maybe, but still, he did need to be in good condition in order to hunt. |

Like most creatures who dwelled mostly in the darkness of evil, night had a special meaning to her. Evening was a time of safety, and after the sun left earth for it's resting hour, that was when they really came alive. Olivia was no different; her crimson eyes already glimmered with the promise of night. It was also a sad time, a lonely tme. A reminder of the sleep she would never get to experience as she walked this earth in eternal awareness of her current status. In any case, even after the sun finished its slow but careful ascent, she would still be active. She supposed that Xain would be active as well; while having not met many of his kind, Olivia knew enough. "Oh, there will be something," she said, almost gently. She wasn't around to baby him and tell him that he was right and that he would never hurt in this world...immortality was a bitch, if you pardoned her french. Your mistakes were remembered and repeated every sleepless night for well...eternity. There was always something on her mind, something bothering her and she hated herself for tormenting herself in such a way. Whoever said that being immortal was good? Sure, there was the whole living forever part, but no one had ever mentioned that your mistakes came with you. It took a special kind of person to just forget about those things. Olivia was tormented, but at least she tried to hide it. "So, tell me about yourself, Xain," she said after a moment. "Anything at all, I am curious." |

Evil, ha, he didn't see anything as evil. No, there was simply life, his, and that was the main thing. Sure, he did manage to have fun while on his hunts, but it was a predatory need that drove him in the first place. The incubus did not delve into lust just for the fun of it, his sole purpose was to consume those souls, in the only way he knew how. It was not a thing that had been taught to him, it was simply an instinct, something he knew from as long as he could remember. As long as the night ended with him alive, and well fed, that was the basic purpose of all his nights. ”I just have to wait.” Of course he had plenty of time. After all, immortality and all that. But if there was anything his hunts taught him, it was patience. He smiled slightly, in spite of himself. ”Plenty of time to wait.” What was the hurry anyways ... Xain figured if he hurried to find tat something then what he found wouldn't truly be 'it'. Because he'd be in a hurry to find it, he wouldn't take time to think over whether or not whatever he found was worth it ... or not. And that made perfect sense to him. Xain, of course, being what he was, did have a certain sense of empathy. He could tell, this vampire was not truly acting the way she usually did. He wondered if it was an act to fool herself, or just for his sake. He laughed inwardly at the prospect of the latter. ”Ah, what is there to say. I'm an incubus, steal souls for a living after sleeping with humans, elves, whatever falls for my ... heh charms. And move on. I don't exactly have grand adventures.” |

And so he would wait. And wait. Until there was nothing left and something was bound to go wrong. And when it did, he would remember this night, she was sure of it. He'd remember what she said about regret and it would haunt him every waking hour. Or so she hoped; regret could change a person, perhaps for the better or for the worse. It drove men mad, humans and immortals alike. In a guilty and regretful mind, peace is always far and madness is separated from conciousness by a thin line that often grows even more blurred by the moment. "Grand adventures are in the eye of the beholder; treat life as a gift and all of a sudden every day is a party," she quoted, remembering the original speaker of these words. It had been so long ago that he had said them, but Olivia could still remember how his eyes softened when they looked at her and how he had told her once that he was proud of her. And she was day-dreaming again; the ghosts of her past flitted before her eyes in a remind of a magic night that had forever changed her and how she viewed the world. Then, she shook her head and they disappeared. Nothing more than fantasies in the eyes of the tormented and tortured. "An incubus you say? Your blood, as I have tasted the blood of one of your brethren, is rather unusual, might I add," she only felt it slightly necessary to comment. "It has an odd taste to it, though not unpleasant. Odd, in a good way. I am, as you may have guessed, no mortal. A vampire is what they would call me, but I prefer a more dignified name..." |

Maybe, maybe not. Who knew? He sure didn't. Xain was not one to think much about the past, just like he wasn't one to worry about the future. All that he had ever seen as important, all that had ever mattered, was now. The present was the most important thing to him, not only because of what he was, but who he was. He could not help that he was a creature who thrived on pleasure and enjoyment, and what better way to enjoy life, however long it may be, than to live for the moment. Perhaps it was difficult to understand how one with a lifestyle that left little room for attachments and a method of living that meant killing others. But for Xain, it was the simplest thing in the world. ”I wouldn't doubt it.” He didn't care if she had taken the blood of his kind before, such things were of little consequence to him. Xain didn't even flinch at the comment, maybe because what he did could be considered so much worse. At least when a vampire drained someone of their blood, the soul would go wherever souls went. But Xain consumed the souls, leaving nothing but hollow shells of what were once human beings. That was the only reason he killed them, his own little bit of 'mercy'. ”Dignified, eh? And what would that be?” |

Dignified? She had been given so many names over the thousands of years of her existence, but sentimentality had made her hold on to her birth name; Olivia. Her name meant 'Elf Army', in a nod to her pure elven blood and her former position as an ambassador to the mortals. There was vampire, half-blood, love, Gray Lady, creature of darkness, seductress...She had lost count over the years, and most were simply names she gave mortals to keep herself unbound. She had forgotten most of those too. He could use his imagination and throw a pin on any name he chose and at some point she had probably been addressed as that. So, she shrugged. "Say what you will, I have many, many names," there was no point in telling him her favorites, for they were just sentimental things. Olivia had asked him earlier that night (for now it was night) why he was here. Obviously, the reason had changed, for he hadn't been finding any prey he had been talking to her. So, why was he hanging around, talking to her. She was not so special that he would want to find out things about her. Perhaps this was part of a trap that she hadn't been thinking about earlier. "The sun is gone, and yet you are still here? Do you trust me with you?" She found it necessary to comment, her voice unreadable. |

"Ah. In truth Xain didn't care anything about names, he would call her whatever she introduced herself as. He was just going along with the conversation anyways. It didn't matter if it was a conversation that would be forgotten sometime in the future, or even forgotten simply just moment's from his departure here. Xain had come up here to alleviate his own boredom and to sate his curiosity, but just because both were fixed now didn't mean he was ready to just up and leave. No, he figured he'd stick around a little longer, besides the vampire sort of looked like she needed a break from the solitary lifestyle he could already sense from her. Slowly he sat up, brushing sand from one shoulder before looking at the vampire. "Trust? Why not? If you were going to try and eat me you would have done it already." No, he wasn't worried about a thing. |

She couldn't really think of much to say- there wasn't much about her that he would find interesting. She was your generic vampire, or so it appeared. Underneath the surface, her human personality was still there, but it had long since been buried under bloodshed and death. The girl she had been had died long ago, but the memories remained and were simply buried. Olivia knew she could think of them, but there wasn't anything there that Xain would find interesting either. "You fool," she laughed before saying, "I should eat you just for that." She winced slightly at the word 'eat'. It was essentially what she was doing when she drank the blood of another- but it sounded so coarse and undignified. When you thought about it, she was nothing but a parasite- she fed off the blood of humans to maintain her existence, and without humans she was nothing. Olivia would wither and die without blood, eventually going mad with blood lust. There were other ways to kill her, but being cut off from her food source would work in the long term effect. If humans ever died out, as well as other races, the vampires could turn on each other. But, what then? Survival of the fittest, she supposed. "Why are you still here, Xain? I'm sure one such as you has better things to do than hang around with an old maid like me," her voice was resigned and calm. |
