Kael looked to the sky. The clouds were thick and heave, and unless he was mistaken was going rain any minute now. Though at this attitude it was just as likely snow. Turning back down Kael picked up his pace and started heading for the small cave system he knew existed on the other side of the mountain. Even he, in the tiger form he had currently taken, protected by his thick coat of fur, wouldn’t like to be caught in a snow storm.

With in minutes of setting out for the caves the wind picked up carrying with it the icy promise of what he had dreaded. There was indeed a snow storm on the way. At this rate he would not make it to the safety of the caves in time, so without a moment he began to run. In the minutes it took him to reach the caves the snow storm had become a blizzard. Half frozen, completely exhorted, on the brink of unconsciousness Kael managed to push himself into and round the first corner of the cave system before collapsing in a pile of snow covered fur.

))Nah, its good. No worries.((

It had been a long time since she had left her shrine and taken a little adventuring in the various realms of Avalon. Few people ever came to her little shrine in the oasis and so it was that she was growing rather bored. Even if there was plenty of animals around for her to talk to and she was even an animal herself, Alezra's time as human had made her feel things no animal ever would. She had emotions, though most were confusing to her, and she had all these desires and feelings and she really didn't understand it. Not in the least bit, but one thing she knew was that she rather did like meeting people. sure she got into her fair share of fights, but Alezra had never back down from anything before and she certainly wouldn't start now. Her aimless wandering was what brought her to this mountain, and what with her element and all being Earth she couldn't help but make her way up the mountain peaks. one thing she didn’t count on though, was the weather, and though she could control the earth at whim, ice and snow were another matter entirely. Those elements were left up to the Water Guardian’s control. And Alezra was no Water Guardian. While she was stronger than most people or animals, Alezra's time in the deserts had left her with a particular disliking of the cold. She had been traveling as the Chimera for awhile, but once she had gotten to these mountains she had opted for the human form.

However as tine passed and she trudged barefoot in the snow and with little in the way of protective clothing other than the fuzzy hooded cloak tossed about her shoulders, Alezra soon found that in her little testing herself against the elements, she had tired herself out enough so that she couldn't shift back. so it was that she had been forced to take shelter and just when the ice clinging to her had her shivering madly and her feet probably getting frostbite she had made her way into a cave, finally. Shivering, she moved deeper and deeper into the cave and after some time her ears twitched at the sound of something very similar to a heartbeat. As the chimera-turned-girl tilted her head up, she caught scent of something that smelled definitely feline. Alezra was well familiar with the scent for part of her was tiger, just as much as part of her was wolf and dragon. At any rate the cold was near forgotten now and though her feet burned slightly from the formerly numbing cold she moved onward in curiosity. It didn't take long for her to stumble across the white tiger lying out in the cave floor. Kneeling she reached out a tentative hand form the folds of her cloak and lightly ran a hand across the great cat's head and between his ears. "Eloo?" At the moment Alezra could not decipher if the tiger was a real tiger, or some sort of shapeshifter, and she knew nothing of weres.

All around him the darkness was closing in, the feeling in his extremities was leaving him. Yet a small gust of the blizzard winds, managed to bring about an almost searing pain to every fibre of his being. If he couldn’t focus his mind and will his body to move forwards, out of the chilling wind, he would shag die.

A warm sensation began moving from his lower forehead up, and between his ears. “Eloo?” a voice sound, close yet distant. Could it be, some one else in these isolated parts of the Cloudsweep Peaks. It was too much to hope for but hope it was. Clinging to this slither of hope Kael forced himself to open his eyes.

At first all he could see was a blurred sillowet but slowly, as his eyes focused, details began to form. There was someone else, a woman… probably in her late teens… black hair… wearing a fuzzy cloak… with ears… like a cat!!! Staring at this face Kael wondered, could this be another lycan?

The pain and cold temperately forgotten, Kael forced himself on to his paws for a better look at his could be kin. Standing Kael could now see some of what he had failed to notice, apart from the cloak the strange wore nothing in the way of protective clothes she was even foolish enough to be out bare footed. Another gust of the freezing winds brought him out of his shock. If they didn’t move now they would both die. Focusing his will power Kael shifted to his hybrid form. As soon as he had shifted form enough to allow, Kael spoke, in a voice more befitting to a tiger than a human, broken and fragmented by the cold and his lack of strength “You must… be frozen to death.” With that he moved to grab the woman’s wrist with his clawed hand, to drag her away from the deadly cold. But into the darkness of the waiting caves…

Shapeshifter, yes, but not a lycan. While both races had the ability to change forms, shapeshifters were different in many ways. For one, well for the most part, shapeshifters only became such through birth or by a certain spell and they had control over their abilities. Lycans were much more instinctual, and control only came with a good amount of practice. Alezra leaned back a little, and rubbed her hands together in an effort to get some warmth back into them. As for why she was barefoot in the snow, well with the whole shapeshifting thing clothing would only tear and then if she because human again, well not even she would much like to run around without a scrap of clothing to her name. So she wore only a shirt and pants, as for the cloak, well that was slightly more complicated. The cloak was not really made from cloth or anything, it was part of her own fur and feather s that had altered with her as she changed forms. That was the reason for the cloak being made of fuzzy white and black scraps of fur with a ring of black feathers surrounding the wrists and bottommost portion of the article of clothing.

Alezra had only seen very few shapeshifters in her time spent in Avalon, or any place else for that matter. And she had yet to run into one of the lycanthropes. In fact she didn't even know what they were, which lead to her being more than just a bit surprised as the tiger laying at her feet suddenly altered forms. While not afraid or anything, for he so much resembled something animalistic still that Alezra couldn’t be afraid. She was definitely curious though. "Not so bad. You were the one unconscious." Not resisting the tug at her arm, she followed. For one thing Alezra trusted just about anyone, and for another she could always fend for herself well enough.

))Nah, man. It’s cool. You're doing well ^^((

With some effort Kael smiled at that remark, but said nothing, remaining silent for the rest of the trip. He had blacked out and if this woman had come just a few moments later he would have with out a doubt crossed that line to unconsciousness and in gratitude for this, Kael was going to lead her to relative warmth and safety.

Kael continued to lead the stranger deeper in to the pitch black tunnels of mountain’s temperate heart. As his cat like eye searched out the correct path through the darkness, his exhort lowly leaked away as the warmth, that had all but left his body minutes ago, graduly returned.

During his life Kael had spent many hours exploring the cave systems of the cloudsweap peaks and new almost every one of them inside out. At time they could be more dangerous than the blizzard out side, but the ever present darkness that kept most creatures to the edges and the fact that the temperature never dropped below freezing as the surface so often did, made them one of the safest places to sleep and make camp, as Kael so often did. It was one of these hidden camps that Kael was leading them to.

At last Kael found the cavern that he had been looking for. “Wait here” he instructed in his tiger like voice, before releasing his grip upon the strange woman’s wrist and moving to the center of the cavern. There he found the remains of his last visits fire pit. Upon relighting the half burnt log and branches, he had assembled the month before, the campfire bathed the cavern in its flickering light, revealing a magnificent sight. The moisture seeping in from the melting snow above made the cavern walls glittered, while the moss that thrived in the damp and dark gave it a green tinge. But Kael didn’t give the magnificent cave a second look, instead he stared circling and examining every inch of the strange.

Immediately in the light of the fire Kael distinguished what he had failed to notice earlier, not only did she have cat like ears but she also had a pair of odd wings and two tails. With I sigh he accepted that she was no a lycan as he had first thought.

“We will be safe and warm here for the night. I am Kael Honourkill and if you don’t mind me asking who and what are you? And what drove you to trug barefooted through a blizzard?”

There wasn't anything for her to do really, other than just follow him. For one thing he seemed to know where he was heading, and another he did have Alezra's hand held so it wasn't like she could stray off the path. Her own eyes were rather cat like, and she could see in the dark quite well. As her gaze shifted during their journey to the heart of this cave, Alezra took notice of the rock formations and noticed that the ice that had previously coated the cave walls was starting to thin out until it vanished entirely, leaving nothing but dirt and stones. Having never been to this cave system and not even knowing it had existed until now, Alezra probably would have gotten lost if she had been here alone. Of course she would have made her way out eventually, but it probably would have taken a much longer time than she would have liked. So it was a good thing she had stumbled across this person, for both their sakes.

She did stop when instructed to, and looked over curiously as the tigerman went off into the depths of the cave. Her ears twitched at the various noises of him going about making the fire. Alezra wondered why he had told her to stay here. She could have even made the fire herself. Even though she was the earth guardian, she had learned one fire spell long ago. A friend of hers, a demon, had taught her the ability. Not that she knew where he was now, but she did remember the spell he had taught her. The ring of fire spell had been the first thing she ever learned, other than the shapeshifting bit. Alezra took a brief glance around the place as the fire grew and made the place brighter. If she had been human, she probably would have commented on the beauty of the place. Since she was animal more so, she only saw the place as a safe haven from the winter storm that brewed outside.

Watching as the other circled her with a curious intent, Alezra could only smile slightly in amusement. She was accustomed to people to knowing what she was, but not used to people actually taking the time to really study her. Nodding slightly at the 'introduction', she looked the man over quickly before responding in kind. "Alezra." She didn't know the latter portion of her name, just the one that her creator had always called her by and that was the name she gave out to others she had met. "I'm a chimera. An I'm always barefoot. Shoes do not fare so well with the shapeshifting."

Kael stopped his circling. “I understand that situation all to well,” Kael replied after a burst of heart felt laughter, “My mother once told me about chimeras, though it would seem that she was wrong for the most part.”

Moving towards a wall of the cavern Kael leaped onto to a small moss covered ledge before stretching out along it. “Well Alezra, feel free to make your self at home. It isn’t much but as I had said, it’s warm and safe.”

From his ledge Kael continued to watch Alezra. She’s defiantly nothing like how my mother described a chimera. She seems a lot smarter and more aware of her surroundings than what I was told a chimera should be.

Leaving his train of thought there Kael asked “So what brings you to these mountains? Rarely do I have two legged visitors. Other than the occasional orc or goblin,” grinning and flexing his claws he continued “though they seem to leave very quickly for some reason, I have no idea why”

She laughed good naturedly in response, Alezra was generally one to pick up on other people's moods quite easily. After she had gotten a good enough look at the man to see what he was, she had studied him in a curiously analytical gaze. There were still many races that Alezra had not much encountering with, but it had been her purpose to learn about the world around her. Though she wasn't aware of it, her very creator had brought her into being as more than an experiment or just an odd pet, Alezra may have been still mostly just attuned with her animal side but she learned things far beyond some more beastial understanding.

"Can't say I actually know anything about my own race." Alezra had only heard from few people that she had met in her time of living in Avalon, about her own race. She had never met one, and the people who had before always told her that she was even unlike the chimera that they had met. "do you live here, alone, all the time?" Watching him still, Alezra was just as curious as ever. She shrugged lightly, at the question asked of her. In truth, she was just passing through. "I'm from the desert, and haven't been back to explore the rest of Avalon in awhile so 'm just wandering."

“The desert now there’s a place I’ve never been, all the sand and the heat of the day would be a large change from the mountains,” Kael said thoughtfully, more to himself than to his guest below.

“As for your question, if you mean here as in these caves than no, I prefer to wander. But I have lived all over this mountain range for the last seven or so years and know them better than many know the back of there own hands. As for living alone, I haven’t had lasting company since my mother died about ten years ago.” Quietly his face saddened as he reminisced. “But I don’t mine the solitude,” with a somewhat forced grin he continued, “The animals keep me company, they’ve seemed to have learnt to come to me when they’re hurt or injured. Apart from them I do speak with the occasional travellers through these mountains, lending what aid I can, when I can.”

Suppressing the memories of his long dead mother, Kael once again looked down upon Alezra from his vantage point on the ledge, and watch as the fire’s light dance from her uniquely green eye’s that seemed to study him in tern. “I must admit that this isn’t much I know about what I am either. If you wish to be technical I am actuly human, and know as much about myself in that regards as anyone, but my mother contracted lycanthopy late in her youth, which was then passed on to me when I was born, it is in this regards that I know very little about my self or others like me. I would show you my normal form, but that my not be the most polite thing to do considering.” Finishing this statement with a grin. “You said that you’ve been in the desert for some time, if I may ask what was it that you did there?”

”I’ve been … everywhere. Except the volcano, I think. I lived on an island and then got put on a boat and went across the sea to many places ... Never saw the ocean though until a lot time later. Don’t like towns much, too loud and confusing in scent. I usually travel through forest but decided to try mountain this time. But yeah, live in the desert now.” She crouched next to the fire at that, getting herself warmed up a good bit and aimlessly playing with the feline of her tails. ”In desert, I guard. A shrine and the animals in the oasis. ‘S my territory.” She grinned at that, showing off small cat like fangs in doing so. ”I help people too. Though sometimes people come and try to hunt me and other animals that live there mostly just me and the other animals though. Lots of creatures there.”

Slowly the grin was washed off Kael’s face. Soon replaced by a look of startled shock, as he put two and two together in a severely slow and drawn out voice. “So you guard a shrine… in the desert. A desert shrine… I mean the desert shrine. But that would make you… a guardian.” As soon as his thoughts came together and comprehension of the strangers words hit, Kael throw himself into action.

Rolling off his ledge, he busied himself with removing the clumps of moss that stubbornly clung to his fur before even landing. Seconds after his feat hit the ground Kael awkwardly dropped to one knee, with his arm across his chest and head lowered, vaguely in the form he had been instructed to take if ever he were to meet someone of great importance. And few, other than the gods themselves were more important than a guardian.

“My apologies my Lady Guardian. Please forgive me for any lake of respect my Lady Guardian. I… I didn’t know. If there’s anything you want anything at all I’ll do my best to get it for you my Lady Guardian. I know, you must be hungry, it may take a while, but there’s shore to be some small game sheltering from the blizzard in these caves, my Lady Guardian. Once again I beg of you to forgive any disrespect I have shown you during this time together, my Lady Guardian. I had no idea of what you were.”

Kael tried to force his heart to slow its beating and to steady his breathing to no avail. I’ve forcibly dragged her through these pitched, ordered her around, and… and… now I find out she's a guardian… What a fine mess I’ve gotten myself into.

Well she hadn’t quite expected a reaction such as that. Then again Alezra wasn’t exactly the most well traveled sort, so she didn’t get to tell many people about who she was. Not that it mattered much to her, she may have been a guardian but other than her control over the earth element, she was no different a chimera than she had been before gaining guardianship. Her ears quirked as she watched the other, a curious expression taking over her as she watched him jump up and seemingly clean himself up a bit. And then he actually went to one knee before her and spoke of her guardianship in a manner moiré suited to kings and queens than the mere beast that Alezra truly was.

A soft laugh that sounded more like a mix between a growl and a purr than true laughter was given as she leaned forward slightly to match eye level with the now kneeling tiger lycan. Alezra shook her head slightly. ”Ya-huh, I ‘m guard of earth. But you can still call me Alezra. Is my name. An don’t have to start acting different cause of me being guardian, so don’t worry none about that.” She gave off a small grin revealing her own catlike fangs, small and sharp.

In his years living within these mountains Kael had learnt that an animal would always show its true feelings and as such the animalistic nature of Alezra’s grin and laughter set Kael at tentative ease. “As you wish my La… Alezra. As I have said I’m not at all that used to visitors, let alone ones of your prestige. So please excuse my reaction.” Realising that he was still kneeling, Kael’s former grin slipped back onto his face as he lent back into a squat in front of his most esteemed guest. “And I stand by what I said if there’s anything you need just ask. I own you my life, if you hadn’t shown up when you did I would still be at the cave mouth frozen to death.”

Despite her usual abode being within a desert, the warmest place in Avalon next to the volcanic home of the fire guardian, Alezra was not much bothered by the cold and snow. Then again, she wasn’t human and she wasn’t any ordinary animal, so that might have attributed to her being little effected by the elements.

”Well, I saw you, so I helped. I always help. Like at the shrine sometimes people will get lost in the desert. Not all of them are good though…” She scratched an ear before seating herself comfortably and letting her tails curl about her feet. ”It hard though. Cause I help people and then they run off and try to catch animals at the oasis and take them off wherever it is they take them. So I have to fight them and send them into the desert again. Never know if they make it back to wher ever they came from.” She was starting to ramble now, which was an odd habit she’d picked up. Especially odd since she didn’t converse much or even have a full vocabulary.

“I understand your burden well. Too many times have saved some travellers from the mountains, only to find out what they are really here for then have to send them off to what ever fate the mountains hold for them.” While speaking Kael had begun to absentmindedly make various forms and shapes of frost dance upon the stone floor before them. “And I wish I could say they were the few exceptions, but…” noticing the five or six degree drop in temperature Kael left his frost to melt away. “What ever happens it’s for the best, I’m sure. If we didn’t fight to protect our homes and its inhabitants they wouldn’t remain as our home for long.” Rising with a feline grace Kael moved out of the fires warming glow towards the entrance of the cavern.
