In all his time at sea Learghaoth had never whitnessed such wrath from her... She showed no mercy, and he understood that, but that didn't mean he had to like what he saw when he looked about... To an older salior it might have brought rater deep dispair, but Learghaoth only saw the challenge... He was already making his way to the rocks, the storm dieing down... "We need that wood..." was all he muttered as he took an axe from a man to confused to know what to do with it... The boy had guts, if not had lost his mind as he started from one rock to the next, trying to land so that the jagged edges caught the soles of his boots and not him... What'd he have to lose?

Looking around, Jade could see that there wasn't much hope of getting wood from the island. It wasn't very heavily vegetated, but where it was the trees were not of any possible use for raft-making. He looked down and shook his head, knowing the only other course of action they could take. He barely registered the simple comment made by the young captain, and when he looked up, the young man was already starting to make his way over the rocks, axe in one hand. He shook his head in disbelief. The fool was going to get himself killed.

Jade turned to one of the sailors that actually looked like he was with the program and spoke to him. "Is he always like that?" The sailor looked over to where the ronin was pointing to see who he was talking about, then responded. "You mean captain Learghaoth? Well I'm not really sure. This is the first time I've sailed with him, but he's got a kind of reputation for being impetuous, if that's what you mean." The sailor then turned back to the waters, continuing to help gather in the little driftwood there was to be had.

Jade turned in the direction of the rocks and sighed. There wasn't any other way off this island, so he may as well risk going out there and dying. Hell, if he didn't he was going to die a slow death in this place anyway. Those thoughts in mind, he mounted the slippery rocks, making his way cautiously over them in Learghaoth's wake as waves crashed against their sides.

Learghaoth glanced over his shoulder... It seemed Jade had decided that this fool's errand was suited for him as well... "'Ey there, watch that rock... 't moves!"
Learghaoth was nearing the main wreckage and hefted the axe and leapt for it, slamming the axe deep into the wood he found himself hanging from the side, laughing like a madman. "Well not exactly what I was aiming for...!" He leapt up over what remained of the railing and started hacking to make sizable pieces as one raft was already setting off... Amusing...

Jade watched as the crazy captain jumped at the ship and swung the axe deep into it. He couldn't believe how reckless this guy was. Jade got as close to the ship as he was able, then made sure his footing was solid and jumped, catching the railing and pulling himself onto the deck just as Learghaoth made it up onto the ship. He looked around for something to help him dismantle the ship alongside the captain, and found a smaller axe and a saw hidden in a closet with some other tools. He came out and between the two of them they began to make short work of the small ship's deck and cabin. They tossed the wood as close as they could get it to the shore, trusting that the waves would carry it the rest of the way in so that the sailors could keep hauling it in.

After a little while they had both broken quite a good sweat. Not that one could tell, though, as the rain was still coming down. It wasn't nearly as heavy now, but it was rather steady nonetheless. Jade looked around for a moment, trying to figure out how much more they were going to need to tear off before they would have enough. They had already taken down one whole side of the cabin and were well on their way to getting through a second. Not to mention the deck they had stripped apart at the stern of the ship at the beginning. He looked at Learghaoth. "How much longer do you figure, Lear?"

The young captain made a show of judging the weather with what remained of the boat... "Any luck... and this rig 'ill slip right out under us before we get all that we need... We have enough for mab' two, thre' rafts to get afloat... But as you can tell... they won't get us all over..." Learghaoth simply worried that he might have to swim... the storm may have lightened, but there was still a lot more to go before the day was out... His arms felt sore as they would when he tended oars and the like... But something else burned in him, the need to survive...((posts may get short school coming to a close and things getting hectic.))

Any luck? Jade wouldn't exactly call what Learghaoth had said "luck". Having the ship dislodge from the rock face and drift out to sea would be disastrous for the pair of them indeed. They would be at the mercy of the sea, until such time as the waves found their way into the broken hull and sank the vessel permanently. They would just have to work a little harder, and a little faster to get the wood they needed for the rafts. Jade had no intentions of dying at sea like this, and made it quite apparent when he increased his working pace. He was now tearing through the wood of the ship with the sawblade, sending pieces of wood flying over to the beach. He hoped that the sailors would have the sense to leave enough wood for he and Lear to build a raft as well. Otherwise they would be in quite a jam.

((Sorry so short. I'm starving and a little uninspired at the moment.))

Learghaoth added to the man's hastened mode of deconstruction... The whole time he muttered about all the love and compassion that must have gone into the making of this old ship... He glanced around as he worked, tossing a piece after piece... A few were left in a pile with an order that they were not to be used unless all the rest ran out... He was not dieing out here without seeing to his crew first... "Tis an intersti' lot aye... aye..." he said it more to himself then anything as the second raft, hasitly built, shipped off to the next island...

A short while later, Jade stood up from the hard work the two of them had been doing. He needed a quick breather to get himself back to normal. He reached down to his traveling bag and pulled out a water skin, opening it up to take a drink. The cold, fresh water was just what he needed to refresh himself. Before he put it away, he offered it to Learghaoth, figuring he might be wanting for something to drink as well.

As he stood, he looked down to the beach at the pile of wood that had been created through their deconstruction efforts. It had gotten to a decent size, owing to their fevered pace. Most of the sailors, and all of the merchants had already pushed off to float on to the next island, doing as they had been instructed to do, hopping from one to another until they reached land.

He turned to Lear once more, voicing his thoughts aloud. "I think it might be time we abandoned this wreck, my friend. Looks like everyone is ready to push off to safety, and there's just enough wood down there to make a raft for us to make it out of here on. Let's hit it." He cocked his head down in the direction of the shore, and moved to the rail of the deck. Looking down, it was a pretty bad idea to jump, so he sought about until he found the anchor rope.

Drawing his sword, he sliced through the thick line, then attatched a heavy piece of wood to it so he would be able to throw it. Tossing it into the rocks, he tugged until it caught hold of something. He looked over to the young man beside him and nodded, then made his way down it.

Learghaoth, being a bit less timid with the sea jumped right in at the idea of getting off the ship... Moment the chilling water caught his skin he felt truely awake, even after the hard work's excertion. He swam, gald that he missed the rocks, and made shore before the swordsman. "Come on now!" He was already ambling up the way, tossing his soaked shirt aside. His arms grabbed up a sizable amount of wood and set to work before his mind registered what he was doing... Raftmaking, unlike true ship making, was no art... you just had to make something you were sure would float, and Lear was good at that... He watched for Jade, two other saliors remained with them, the were the only two that knew anything about sensible rafts as far as the other crew members went... the sun was setting and it seemed with poor luck they might spend the night on the island.
