The Land of Avalon is a freeform medieval/fantasy roleplaying site loosely based on Arthurian lore. This island is mostly ice and virtually covered in a network of caves, and high cliffs oversee all but one side of the ocean. It is a small and nondescript place; mostly hidden from prying eyes due to the fact that this is one deity who does not care for worship or followers, and so it is that she keeps herself hidden. In fact, the goddess of vengeance and retribution would prefer that her own existence isn’t even known. Within a snowy cavern, (which is just like the surrounding caves and tunnels hidden beneath the ice) lies a barely noticeable sort of warmth that alerts travelers to at least some small sign of life. If one treads further they would soon come across a light, however this little bit of illumination isn’t anything brighter than a fading torch. Still … this light is adequate enough to reveal the pathway ahead. The walls are constructed of a mixture of gray rock and blue ice, but the most noticeable thing about these walls is the fact that they are lined with a thick red substance; it is an element that can only be blood. The blood trailing across this path appears to be both fresh and ancient, though who or what it belongs to is indeterminable. While such things are generally enough to scare off those weaker of heart, if the ‘explorer’ is brave enough to proceed they would stumble across the lair of some old predator, one that has been gone from this cave for quite some time. The bones of both prey and predator lie in a destroyed and forgotten nest which is strewn about the cave. Behind this mess of fur and bone is another path and another muted, orange light. Yet again, the walls here are marked by a trail of blood; and the source of light is never actually seen. It is not much farther than this, that the cave ends in a vast open area that seems to contain nothing of particular interest and no items of value. What is there is, is a crack in the floor and twin dots of ruby low to the ground. Though before one can even figure out what the strange pinpoint of light is, the crack in the floor becomes a hole and the ground caves in. The fall is a short one; however the landing is far from soft. Once the dust settles and one’s vision clears, the goddess shrine is obvious right there. Built directly into the ice and stone is a somewhat plain but no less unusual staircase carved from black marble. There are stairs that are about equal in height to an ordinary man and they appear to lead straight to the roof of the cave and disappear. By architectural standards, the shrine is a pyramid; though whether or not any such pharaohs or ancient kings lie behind the stairs is something that is currently unknown, except to the goddess. With no animals or plants to survive on, the realm is nothing but a large sheet of snow and ice. No normal being can make it from the shore to the goddess's shrine without some divine intervention. While the caverns are the same before, many new passageways have been discovered and marked by soldiers and followers. There are plenty of places for one to bed down and rest, or make a cavern home out of, and the goddess dos not particularly mind. She knows where all are located anyways, but as long as you do not mind sleeping in an icy cave, War will leave you to it. Providing you are a soldier or follower in her name, of course. There is even an area reserved for her priests and priestesses, however few there may be. Finally, the great pyramid of stair cases is now in ruin. It seems pieces have been carved out, an opening appearing at the very top seems torn by the goddess's hands. If one were capable of getting to the top, they could enter what appears to be a room at the top of the pyramid. However, whatever may once be contained within, has now been wiped clean. No trace can be found, regardless of your power or ingenuity. Whatever used to be here however, seems to have sparked the goddess's need to move her temple to new heights. Literally, thoguh the new location of her domain is still under construction.
