Diamond Gale looked out over the edge of the cliff, somewhat disoriented. The glass was sturdy yes, but it looked feable and it's clearness didn't help. "It is a wonderful sight yes, but I'd rather be on solid land." he looked around. "Not that I'd know solid from unsolid anymore." He turned and almost fell off the nearly invisable edge. He dropped to the ground, I think it's ground, and stared out, Down? at the sea. "This isn't funany more. I don't even know what drove me to come out here." He stood up carefully and turned only to find someone in his way. |

Marinar noticed Gale as he walked out towards the edge of the glass cliff, carefully putting a bit of pressure on his toes to make sure he was not walking into thin air. He passed by the boy, a rope in his hand, one end tied to a large outcropping of glass and the other end coiled around his left arm. "Hello, Gale, what brings you out this way?" Marinar asked as he looked out at the water, waiting for his ship to pick him up. There was no sign of the Crimson Star anywhere, and it was a hard ship to not see. Red and black sails stood out the most but was no where to be seen. Marinar slid down onto his backside and dangled his feet over the edge of the cliff, clutching onto his rope just in case he fell or slid towards the edge. He didn't feel like cheating death today, right now he just wanted to get some rest on board the closest thing to home, his ship. He was not much of a sea lover, he prefered to be able to control where he was going on the land, rather than being at the wind's mercy. Though the wind had been favorable to him on his way back to Avalon from the West recently. |

"Hi Marinar. And I'm not sure what possessed me to come out here." He stumbled and dropped. "I really don't like it out here, it's way to hard to see where one is going." He crawled over to where Marinar was and sat down by him. He then realized that he had been trying to get off the cliff and was now in an unfavorable position. "Ok, that really isn't good." He slid down some and quickly repositioned himself. |

"When we don't know why were someplace it usually means we're meant to be there." Mariner replied to the boy's statement about not knowing why he was out here. "Atleast you have wings, I just have a rope." Marinar stated, rugging on the rope as it gripped tightly on the large outcropping of pure glass. He tapped his fingers on the glass next to where he was sitting and looked at it. "There's something very unnerving about it looking like you're sitting on nothing." He mumbled, returning to scanning the horizon for any sign of his ship. He just wanted to leave now, this whole adventure out onto this island was a waste of his time despite giving him the chance to be alone. Marinar slid back from the edge a bit, looking over it was starting to get to him. It was a long long way down. |

Gale looked at his wings. "Oh yeah. I'd forgotten." Though how one could forget that one has a sixteen foot wing span is beyond me. Gale stood up and looked down. Straight down. Which was a large mistake. He didn't really like hights. Espetially high hieghts. He looked back out to the sea, his legs trembling. "That was one of the stupidest things that I have ever done." He closed his eyes and let his ears see for him. The waves beat slowly against the rocks. Marinars breathing was a little faster than normal of course, being 400 feet above the water is somewhat unnerveing. |

On the horizon the fluttering red and black sails and blue and black flags fluttered in the wind, fast approaching the reddish glass cliffs. Marinar tugged at his roped against, inhaled and exhaled deeply then slid back to the very edge. He waited for a few more seconds as the ship approached close to the cliffside but keeping a safe distance. "There's my ride, if you need to get back to Avalon feel free to fly down." Marinar set his hands carefully onto the rope and slid off the edge of the glass cliff. He twisted so he was facing up and rappelled down the side of the cliff, using his legs to push off then loosening his grip and sliding down; tightening his grip again as his feet touched the glass. Once a safe distance down the cliff face he turned over and pushed away from the cliff into a dive, slamming into the water's surface and diving deep down into the turbulent waters. He surfaced on the far side of the ship and gripped the anchor chain. He quickly caught his breath and began to scale the chain, nicking his fingertips once or twice on the sharp bits of iron welds. He clattered voer the railing and breathed easy. "Welcome back, Sire." |

"Thank you. And I'm coming." Gale looked down at an angle tyhis time and saw what he'd be landing on. "Alright, not to ahrd and not to easy." He stood up and took a running jump off the side of the cliff. He spread his wings when he was about ten feet away from the cliff edge, and glided down. It always amazed him that he could be afraid of standing on something and overlook a vast distance and then fly and have no fear what so ever. He glided down to Marinar's ship and pulled in his wings close to his body. He looked over the crew in a glance and thought that he should have stayed on the cliff where there weren't any people looking at him like he had come down from the clouds. Which he had, not these people knew his mother was a dragon. |

"Gentlemen, this is Gale; treat him with the same respect they you would any of our guests. When I say guests I mean guests, not "guests" ." He said the final 'guest' with air quotes, refering to prisoners. The crew chuckled at that. All of the soldiers were dressed in fine armor and clothing, blues and blacks mostly. All of them had an insignia on them somewhere, a few of the tougher crewmen had the symbol as a tattoo. The symbol was the High Guarde letter M, which was the same shape on Marinar's belt buckle and was the clasp on the pack he carried at his side. "Welcome aboard the Crimson Star, master Gale." The captain of the ship said to the boy as he walked past and handed a message to Marinar. "My Lord, all forces are reporting a total stop on enemy advances. Only the troops at Gran Nu'umn are reporting contact with hostiles. Looking like a total surrender is on it's way, Sire." A commander of the High Guarde army stated as Marinar walked past. "Or they're regrouping, Commander. Inform the forces at Gran Tul'e to advance further into the enemy territory; there should be a garrison at the next city. Give them a chance to surrender." Marinar barked orders to the commander. "And if they don't comply?" "They'll learn why High Guarde is the ultimate force in this world." Marinar said with a slight smirk. |

Gale watched as the captain left to carry out his orders. He turned to Marinar, an expersion of confusion on his face. "Are you leading a war, or something way out here? I mean, heck, wars are happening all over the place but I don't really like them." Gale's eyebrows came together. "I just realized that I don't know what the High Guarde is. Did you tell me once and I wasn't listening or is it that I never asked?" He looked around and saw the same symbol everywhere. It was the same style M that was on some of Marinar's equipment. "And I'm guessing that that's the symbol of the High Guarde?" |

"We lead a war on all that is evil, we give them their chance to turn back from their ways and if they fail to comply they are removed." He replied, taking a piece of paper and scribbling down a message in his native language. He gave an order to the commander in that same language. "The High Guarde are a race, we look like humans but as you can tell we are dramatically taller and stronger than the average human." Marinar said as he motioned to a few of the others aboard the ship. "We live for millenia at a time. Our unique abilities are because we are the descendants of a great king who once ruled all this land, from the High Guarde Empire to the furthest borders of Avalon. His name was the Ice King. Over the years the elves in the West named us the High Guarde because of our massive defenses." He paused to give another order and write something else down. "We fought wars against the Vampires of the Western world, but our abilities and the stubbornness of some of our leaders and people made the other races neighboring us angry and they destroyed us. The humans gave into a dictatorship and the High Guarde became scattered legends." Marinar sighed. "I travelled the world searching for the remnants of my people and we were reunited in one grand army of the High Guarde. We retook our homeland and overthrew the dictatorship, bringing the human nation into the High Guarde Empire. "We've flourished in the past years and the people voted me in as king. The humans generally call themselves 'Marinarans' now, I'm not too fond of it but it's what the peopel want. Of course people in Avalon don't realize all this has happened since the Western world is so far away." |

"I think that that is one of the best stories that I've ever heard." Gale lost his smile when two of the crew men looked at him. "I'm just kinding." The two finished and went on with their buissiness. "So, this is what you've been doing for the larger portion of your life, hum? I think that you'll be doing fine after a short time. I mean you alread have a crew for quite a large ship. There will be others and they'll come straight to you when they hear, won't they?" Gale looked out over the sea and closed his eyes. He hadn't moved much since he got onto the ship, he wasn't used to be on the water, he didn't have sea legs. He catiously made his way to the railing and held onto it. "How can some people stay on the sea for nearly all of the year?" |
